I had my hypno gastric band 'fitted' by Paul McKenna last night...

...so far so good! Admittedly its not even 11am yet, but I havent eaten my snacks which are sitting on my desk and not even tempting me! Normally I don't allow myself anything till 10am, then I pounce!

I am doing this in conjunction with weightwatchers, which Paul McKenna would not approve of, since he despises 'diet clubs' (boy does this come through loud and clear in his book).

However since I don't know the man personally, and I feel I need the WW sessions for support, I am carrying on with pro- pointing and hoping that my gastric band will provide the backup I need to not binge and eat more than my body needs.

I've been (back) on weightwatchers for several months now and failed miserably because I am both a compulsive eater and a (hopefully) reformed bulimic.

I'd like to think this will help me - and I'm willing to try it because I am now as heavy as I was just after I gave birth to DS2 3 years ago (my heaviest, unless you count when I was 40 weeks pg!)

If anyone is interested I will report back :)

Fi I've had that problem a couple of times, but only if I overeat. Maybe eatng less more often might help. I admit, I still eat in front of the tv in the evening. I've got pretty good with my portions, so know how much fills me and only put that amount on my plate.

linkainka I have no idea!! I bought the book, with DVD and CD for about £7.

FifromOz · 12/04/2013 04:43

Fairygen! Yeah I think I must be oveteating! I will just have to have patience and wait on the food hitting my stomach :-) Thanks!

Fairygen · 13/04/2013 20:41

Saturday night and no wine!!! I must be serious about sticking to it!!

Dragon67 · 13/04/2013 22:07

I too still have the TV on or we chat BUT I am trying to be mindful of my food.. I can say for this last week so far I have hardly eaten any chocolate or snacks - ( I am a chocaholic so this is unheard of to only eat 1 freddo 1 pack of crisps and 3 biscuits) Wed & Thurs/Friday were not good due to stess related stuff with work, so today I felt the snack craving, so re listened to the cd and will do the havening .. BUT af fat class on Thursday I had lost a whopping 4.5lbs.. OMFG.. exstatic is an understatement.
One worry I have though is not getting enough calories, anybody else struggle with this, worried i will end up a skinny-fatty !!! Smile

Fairygen · 14/04/2013 18:34

dragon are you following a diet too? You said you weighed at fat club?! SW or WW?

I have tried to do the hypnonis and also follow a diet plan, and in the long run, it hasn't worked for me.I have always ended up bingeing!

The beauty of this is , that you eat what you want, no points, red, green, a and b choices.

@ lynniep how are you getting on with this as I ordered my copy a few days ago?? would love an update!!

showtunesgirl · 15/04/2013 14:40

Ok. I've taken the plunge and have just ordered this. I am rather sceptical about it but know that I need something to tell me to be better with my portion control. I eat REALLY well, just too much!

Also now that I have DD and I have to race home to pick her up from CM, my inbuilt exercise into my daily life where I would walk to the station has had to go as I now have to take the bus in order to make my train on time.

Here's hoping this works!

lauramaymummy · 21/04/2013 15:08

annechatt · 24/04/2013 09:37

I am a Brummie living in New Zealand, and I ordered my copy of PM gastric band last week, having to wait 7 to 10 days for delivery so hope it will arrive tomorrow or Friday. Really excited and raring to go. I have 4 stone to lose.

Loulabelle30 · 24/04/2013 17:08

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining in. Reading through I decided to buy the book. I've been a yoyo dieter for years. I have 2 1/2 - 3 stone to loose. Tried ww sw LL juices etc, but haven't succeeded. I've read the book and watched DVD, doing the cd & fitting tonight. Fingers crossed! Hope I'm as successful as some of you!!

bd1951 · 25/04/2013 00:18

I bought the Paul Mckenna hypnotic gastric band book recently. i find the second part of the cd is garbled, really hard to understand. is this normal, or do i have a faulty cd?

MsMarple · 25/04/2013 00:31

bd1951 - if you listen to it through headphones one voice plays on the right and one on the left, so I guessed that the garbledness was intentional. Might be a fault with mine too though as I still haven't worked out when to stop eating! Blush

annechatt · 27/04/2013 21:50

Hi all, received my book in the post yesterday (Saturday), starting reading then went to cinema to watch Oblivion, great movie. Anyway came back finished reading, did the Havening bit and then listened to the c.d.'s. and had my hypnotic gastric band fitted. Had a great nights sleep, woke up this morning (Sunday) feeling good. Will come back on in a couple of days and let you all know how I am doing. I am excited about the Havening as I have been feeling stressed at work for a few months and comfort eating so I intend to do this everytime I start feeling stressed and over whelmed.

JB30 · 28/04/2013 19:44

Bought the book and starting day 1 of the pre-op. Really excited seeing so many positive reports. Had a good day following the 4 rules. On my own estimation I'm down a couple of hundred cals today alone. Have a weekend in the sun from next Friday. Planning to keep on pre-op for the week, then do the cd while I'm away. Is it weird I'm scared about not being able to gorge :(

mameulah · 28/04/2013 19:56

Can anyone tell me, is any aspect of the Paul McKenna vgb unsociable? For example tomorrow I am meeting a friend for her birthday tea, in a situation like that do you find yourself unable to join in and end up looking rude?

veryberrybug · 29/04/2013 17:20

mameulah though i've found the HGB not nearly as successful as many here (in terms of quick weight loss) the 4 rules are working for me & i wouldn't be able to face food when i'm not actually hungry. however, i had a mad hatters tea party to go to with DCs at the weekend & knew there'd be yummy homebaking i didny want to miss. so when i had lunch, 1hr or so before we went, i had a small portion, ate it consciously & stopped at neutral (5 on PM hunger scale) ie. when i was no longer hungry but before i was full. i felt satisfied with my light lunch and got hungry sooner than if i'd eaten til i was full, thus was able to enjoy timetabled bun! so with a little planning (only a couple of hrs foresight required) you can eat sociably.

mameulah · 29/04/2013 21:05

Thank you, that is really helpful information. I tried the 'I can make you thin' years ago and gave up on it because I followed all the rules religiously and ended up feeling full on about three grapes. I kid you not. I desperately want to learn how to have healthy attitude to food, eating, and my own body imagine (especially because now I have a five month old pfb and so want to set a good example for him) but I also want to enjoy eating purely for pleasure too. It sounds to me like you are enjoying new attitude to food and eating, if so do you have any other helpful hints? Or any other useful information in general?

Just installed the band last night - was going to wait a week but couldn't risk it as started to be eat rings around myself - I think my mind is struggling to accept the loss of mindless gorging, on some level I seem to enjoy stuffing my face, it's like I enjoy not enjoying my food iykwim?
I dozed off during the procedure, wasn't sure if that was ok so re-ran it this morning. Looking forward to my first day

Hi all, my book arrived yesterday and I'm starting a week of non processed food. I haven't read this whole thread yet (I intend to) and I haven't finished the book either but I want to get started right away.

I really hope that unprocessed food allows wholegrain bread and cheese. I am panicking at the thought of a whole week without cheese! Am off for my half hour walk soon and back via the supermarket, for lots of fresh stuff.

Looking forward to reading the thread and being inspired.

JB30 · 01/05/2013 07:51

Day 1 complete - didn't eat much, felt like food wasn't going down. Nearly like it was sitting in my new tiny stomach! Not tracking what I'm eating particularly but it's definitely a lot less than before.
V optimistic!

mameulah · 01/05/2013 08:46

Very exciting JB30, keep us posted!

Spinme307 · 01/05/2013 15:54

could i ask you ladies if any of you have suffered from any side effects? tmi here but since listening to cd Monday night i keep having diarrhea about an hour or so after I've eaten. im certain imagine not eating too much as i don't have much if an appetite after the cd. so could it be my hypno band or do i just have a bug???

veryberrybug · 02/05/2013 13:20

mameulah you're very welcome. i most certainly am enjoying food more now i'm eating less, and i swear it's never tasted so good! i just enjoyed a superb sandwich for lunch with bacon, egg & cheese (bit of a protein-fest eh?! i have been exercising a lot so guess my body telling me it needs muscle-building material!) & afterwards, as i sat there feeling delicious & satisfied, i realised that i'd eaten the same "allowance" as from a previous diet, yet felt much more satisfied as i'd noticed what i was eating rather than shoving it down in a panic "waaah that's all i'm allowed Sad"

i read in a magazine that those who eat mindfully are less likely to snack soon after because the brain's hunger has been satiated aswell as the stomach, the brain remembers it more so does not crave. as for you feeling full after 3grapes (holy guacemole!!) on ICMYT, was this always the case or just one day? if the latter maybe you were just having a no-needin-much day? i've noticed my eating becoming more like my DDs & mine as a child (all naturally thin) which we call "camelling" as your body gets you to stock up & then has a few days with barely a crumb. the other day i overate at lunch & after initially berating myself (still fighting old habits) found i just didn't fancy food at all, in fact had a glass of water at teatime & a teeny apple later, so my body balanced itself out.

JB30 i know what you mean about fearing not being able to pig out, it's like losing an old friend. but to be honest, i would much rather be without the sickly guilt afterwards. overall i've found the daily pleasure i get from real food is totally filling the hole ('scuse the pun) which gorging did (overfill actually!) before. ie. i just don't get as miserable because i top up my joy level every time i'm hungry, whereas before eating was stressful & guilty so i ended up miserable more often & felt the need to gorge. i thought "oh no! what if i don't like cake anymore?" but sometimes i really do like it, other times it would taste too sweet if i didn't really want it. apart from that i've found the havening excellent, make sure you score ?/10 misery before you start then you notice benefit more clearly.

spinme i've not had the squits from it, just a nightmare after first installation about being wheeled round a hospital & i couldn't turn to see who it was & didn't know where to. to be fair i was a bit stressed that night anyway. listened umpteen times since & once felt a bit sick 5mins after breakfast but no bad effects. sadly no tiny portions either but appetite reduced in frequency. not getting the quick fix (weightloss) i was hoping for but slowly & steadily feeling much better about food generally.

Fairygen · 02/05/2013 20:09

Hi all, well after just over 2 months I have gone to the dark side and joined a slimming club! I can hardly believe I have.

As much as I have found HGB a really successful way to lose weight, I miss food!! My total lack of appetite has made me not want to cook, and I find I get no pleasure at all from eating!

I'm hoping to continue following the rules, only not as strictly. Hopefully that and the new eating plan will work...

Good luck with your weight losses
