Anyone else doing slimming world?

Hi all, I joined slimmig world yesterday as I finally ready and motivated to get this weight off. Anyone else? Is there a support thread for those following slimming world? As I couldn't see one on here. If not anyone interested in helping to support each other here?

Sounds like you're all doing really well! I'm trying hard to keep my syns as low as possible, and I'm avoiding bread as best as I can as I know that will help

beanandspud if you end up in that situation with lunch again, strip the batter off the fish and have that with the salad. As long as you take all the batter off, its syn free

Tindertree · 17/01/2013 11:03

Yes Crumb, a fresh start! I know in the past I've set unrealistic targets, been extreme for a week or two, then fallen off the wagon spectacularly. Imnot quite rightly pointed out upthread that it's much better to use the syns properly than feel deprived - so I promptly had a bag of quavers (4.5 syns, I think). And some chocolate.

I'm trying to lose about 2 stones too, and having just checked when Easter is (31st March), I think aiming for a stone by then is a great plan.

This time though, being simultaneously firm and kind with myself, I'm taking the view that if the whole thing takes till Christmas, then that's okay with me. All I really want is a long term fix, so whilst goal weight for the summer would be brilliant, slow and steady is fine too. Better than fine; even half a pound a week would be vastly better than the the vicious cycle of faddyness, overindulging and hitting myself with twigs that has been going on the last few years...

So on that note, Thatbint, I think 3.5 over 2 weeks is a fantastic loss Grin

ThatBintAgain · 17/01/2013 11:06

Grin Tindertree. That's a very sane way of looking at it.

BerkshireMum · 17/01/2013 12:09

I joined SW a year ago and lost 3.5 stone - dropping from size 20 to size 12 - in just over six months to reach target at the end of July. I've maintained since then - actually lowered my target a bit in the autumn and am now 5lbs below my first target. I managed to stay in my target range over Christmas although I'm finding it hard to drop back towards the bottom of that range.

I still go to my group every week and love the motivation, ideas and chat. Having struggled with my weight all my adult life, I'm sure it's this weekly focus that helps me stay at target. We also have a fab, private, Facebook page for the group that we use loads for support and help during the week.

In terms of what I eat, I find I eat loads and most meals are the same for the whole family. It feels like a way of life rather than a diet and I'm only sorry I waited til I was in my (early) 40s to give it a go!

BerkshireMum · 17/01/2013 12:15

Just read a few more messages - managed to miss some pages Blush.

Imnotaslimjim be careful of keeping syns too low, it can actually slow down your weight loss and also give you nothing left to play with as you approach target and it gets harder to shift the last few lbs. 5-10 syns per day is ideal. I allow myself one bottle of wine per week plus a max of 11 syns per day. When I need want more Wine I take it from the 11 syns!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2013 13:01

tinder think most of us try to lose weight and then fall off the wagon - dont we crumb and laughalot - but 2013 will bw the year we all lose weight for good !!!

plus slow and steady is good and yes syns are for using :)

bint good loss well done

crumb naughty school making you binge Wink

slimjim kwym - bread is bad and i almost begrudge using syns on it - so normally will have my B as a brown roll, fills me up more then 2 thin bits of bread from 400g

berkshire mum well done for losing weight last year and keeping it off - thats also the hard thing

years ago i lost 4 stone on ww and kept it off for a few years, then it crept back on, met crumb and laughalot a few years ago on mn and we all lost some weight, and again put some back on

lost some serious weight with death of my dh in 2011 :( , and then put it 99% back on again - hence back here

Chubfuddler · 17/01/2013 13:17

Hello all

I'm not brilliant at keeping up with threads but this seems like a nice one. I started SW last January and lost 2 stone in about four months. I stopped going to group but kept the weight off and list another 7 pounds just before Christmas. No weight gain over Xmas and rejoinedast week. First weigh in last night - 6 pounds down! Only about 2 stone to go ....

Imnotaslimjim · 17/01/2013 13:21

Berkshiremum I am having syns, but only about 5 a day. A couple of small biscuits, or some Special K crisps. I've got a choc bar in the freezer for when the cravings hit, but knowing I can have it whenever, rather than "you can't have choc you're on a diet" makes a big difference to me

Blondes I have a mild wheat intolerance and can usually cope, but I know cutting right back does help me lose more. Sorry to hear of your loss, i hope you're doing ok

SalaciousCrumb · 17/01/2013 14:11

Hi all, I am supposed to be filling in an application form but taking a break before I complete this question "what are you weaknesses?" I think it is a daft question as it just invites an inventive answer...they don't want to hear a real weakness but a lapsed strength.....wish I could say chocolate chip muffins!

Blondes Grin yes the school was naughty! Would never have happened if they'd opened up. No heating yesterday, but if they had opened & I'd gone in to help would have burnt some calories keeping warm.

And when you need them

Chub welcome and well done on your success. I'm another one with 2 stone to lose.

Berkshiremum it must have been lovely to buy new clothes in a size 12! Just goes to show sw works Smile

Tinder I agree with you completely about a longer term solution; I especially need to crack maintaining. I did lose 1.5 stone on another thread with Blondes & Laughalot and put the whole lot on again Sad

beanandspud · 17/01/2013 14:49

Thanks for the tip Imnotaslimjim - it never even crossed my mind to take the batter off the fish Blush - I think I am still in the mindset of things I can't eat rather than things that I can!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2013 15:43

welcome chub yeah we are nice :) thanks slim i was a total mess but getting there :)

my treats are normally crisps, and salad cream lol - tho did make a scrummy rice pudding yesterday which hit the sweetness spot big time for me :)

noyouhavehadawee · 17/01/2013 19:53

just about to make the crust less quiche for tomorrow but only have onions to add to it, oh well! anyway my problem now is i have duped my dh this week serving up quorn and tonight i was rumbled Shock to say he was Angry is an under statement and apparently i am poisoning us all with chemicals!!! so that's my next week meal plans to pot as i am not cooking separate dishes .

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2013 20:06

my other half either eats what i cook or he cooks his self, tho do sometimes tweak stuff for him

last night i made the sw shepherds pie and was yummy, i asked him if he wanted any and he said no and wanted steak - which was fine

i arrive home this morning at 7ish as work nights at the moment and find the rest of the pie gone - he was hungry and liked it Grin

so noyou offer/tell dh what you are cooking and if he doesnt like it then tough shit - hes a grown man, he can cook for his self

2nd WI tomorrow .................. hope ive lost another lb, have been so good and within my syns

Samnella · 17/01/2013 20:42

I have had a bad few days but am back on track after some pretty unfavourable comments from my 7 year old daughter about me looking pregnant Hmm.

So today I have had:

Yogurt with honey - 1
Snack; Satsuma and plum
Lunch: Homemade chicken, potato casserole with stock.
Snack; Jam doger biscuit -4.
Dinner; Rice, quorn pieces in homepride curry sauce (DH cooked!) , salad and a small piece of naan bread. 10.

noyouhavehadawee · 17/01/2013 21:23

ha your so right blondes - to be fair i knew his views on fake meat so didn't tell him he was enjoying it Grin but will go with the tough shit method in future, dc who were non the wiser have took more notice of grumpy Dh and are now twisting too , grr

laughalot · 17/01/2013 21:39

Why is it so hard to be good when '' its that time of the month ''

tigerdriverII · 17/01/2013 21:49

Well have managed one of the three meals out unscathed. Had salmon with crushed new potatoes (might have been some olive oil in them, but tiny portion and 1 tbsp of oo is a HEb) and beet root salsa which had no fat and was lovely (chopped beet root with capers, really yum). The meal tomorrow is total set menu, it's lunch and I can just eat the veg and meat and fruit etc so should be able to avoid the difficult stuff. And the third lunch(what a social life I have!) is likely to be off as its a pre football curry and I can't see the footie happening.

PS. My iPad has just translated pre-football as "après football". Loving it

beanandspud · 17/01/2013 21:57

Après Football makes it sound terribly classy Tiger Grin

Well done on your lunch... one down and two possibly one to go!

I think I must have a very 'easy' DH who pretty much eats anything. I have been cooking SW meals for the last couple of weeks and he's quite enjoying them. One of the pluses of this diet is that I am planning meals and shopping with a list so I feel as if we have spent a lot less on food this month. Or it could be the lack of wine...

Weigh-in tomorrow, just 2lbs would be good.

tigerdriverII · 17/01/2013 22:06

It's not classy at all. Grin. League 2 at its finest but a decent Indian resto 5 mins from the ground.

DH has done very well on SW considering he has a normal breakfast and lunch, eats kitkats and drinks beer. He's lost 4 kilos, and has gone down to a BMI of 24 Envy

smellylittleorange · 17/01/2013 23:36

I found you all!! Just marking my place first week on slimming world last week lost 2.5 lbs but feel loads better more energetic, less bloated etc etc. I lost quite a bit of weight a few years ago with WW core plan which strikes me as a bit similar to Slimming World . My lovely sister who has just had a baby has joined too (although she is half way up country) and lost 5lbs in her first week so she is chuffed too.

I have a lot of weight to lose about 4 stone guess it will be one step at a time but I feel like I could do this for life I am in an optimistic mood . Just regret not doingthis earlier - stopped binging and everything

SW is great!

Tindertree · 18/01/2013 01:37

Welcome chub and orange, we're in this one for the long haul I think!

beanandspud · 18/01/2013 08:49

Welcome chub and orange!

Just lost 1lb this morning. Not really surprised after a big loss last week but still a little bit disappointed.

SalaciousCrumb · 18/01/2013 09:51

Hi all, school is closed, I have some options hot chocolate when we come in from the cold (making snowmen later brrrrr!)

Well done on your 1lb loss bean.

Laughalot plenty of bananas! They may satisfy that hormonal crave for sweet things?

smellylittleorange · 18/01/2013 09:56

This snow day is dangerous - Im a bit bored trying to work from home not sure how people do it without going on mumsnet every five mins well done beans guess we have to remember its our average weight loss over say a month not weekly weigh ins that matter most.

Chubfuddler · 18/01/2013 15:56

I resorted to baking to try to keep Dcs entertained, it's still too blizzard like to play out for long. So far I have resisted eating any of our cupcakes...
