The Ongoing Low Carb Bootcamp - Final Festive Fortnight

No spreadsheet to link to this week, as the LBD challenge is now over!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have definitely not had the greatest of weeks, and I'm keeping on keeping on until we get to Christmas.

Not quite sure yet what my own Christmas strategy is going to be, but I also guess it depends on where I've got to with my weight by then. I know that, having achieved my first major target of losing 2 stones, I still have more to go. So my next really major, very psychological target, will be to reach 9 stone. Something I have been trying (and failing) to do for the last 10 years! But now it seems so much more achieveable, especially with all you lot giving such brilliant support.

This week for me starts with a super strict day today. I'm out to dinner tomorrow, with a groups of ex colleagues, and venue is not yet chosen, but is likely to be a Chinese, which always brings its own problems. not to mention the wine

I'm also out to lunch on Friday, so it looks like Wednesday and Thursday will also have to be super strict!

Thanks BIWI!

I didn't know about the bootcamp bit - Have read the Diet Trap book but didn't realise there was a stricter bit at the start.

Ok will knock the choc and wine on the head!

ScillyCow · 29/12/2012 21:24

AHA have read the spreadsheet with the rules now.

Thanks again.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:26

Scilly = Here is the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness if you look at the tabs at the bottom you will find the rules.

Basically, the idea is that Bootcamp runs for 10 weeks, the first two weeks of which are especially strict. After the first two weeks, you can move on to Bootcamp Lite. Or not, if Bootcamp suits you!

ScillyCow · 29/12/2012 21:32

So I will start now but also 'officially' start on 7th with all of you?
That sounds good to me - will be able to get used to it a bit gradually. Also 10 weeks sounds great.

I am so ready to lose this weight.

The tab with 'allowed foods' doesn't work for me - that sheet is blank.

Am I right it is:
Fish
Meat (though I don't eat it)
Eggs
Butter
Most veg that grow above ground.
Avos are OK
Full fat natural yogurt
Cream (in decaf tea and coffee?)

But no:
Potatoes
Pasta
Rice
Bread
Breakfast cereal
Grains at all.
Carby veg
Fruit

Thanks,
Scilly

Ha! Thanks Doshusallie and Toomuchturkey I feel slightly trepidatious but really looking forward to giving this a serious go. And pork scratchings?! Why have I never tried this before? (Gets excited)

NewStartSameStory · 29/12/2012 21:43

I now have red kale in the house. ds talked me into getting it. Wtf do i do with it Confused

ToomuchheuchatendofHogmanay · 29/12/2012 23:41

Hi NSSS how are you? Glad to see you are still around, I was thinking of you over Xmas and hoping you were getting some R and R. Not sure about red kale, but normal green kale I like to roast with oil, garlic and chilli flakes, doesn't take long about 15-20 minutes (when I use a full bag).

Do you all like my name change for NYE?

NewStartSameStory · 30/12/2012 01:03

Tis lovely, toomuch Considering a tweak to my name and changing the same to new. but have to remember log in details to do that.

respite has helped reduce the stress levels. being just me on my own in the house and not having to worry about anything or anyone else for a week over christmas period has really helped. eating went tits up but am feeling so much better with less stress. it no longer hurts to breathe, which has to be a good thing! training break has been appreciated too. It's not the training persay it's the stupid o'clock starts. lack of sleep is a killer. Also found stepping away from the computer was beneficial. So feeling more positive atm. Thank you for asking.

Biwi was her usual genius self and had a link with some methods of cooking it that she put on the new thread thingy. Will have to report back as to how it goes i guess.

MulledwineGless · 30/12/2012 10:10

NSSS - glad to hear you are feeling more positive and glad you are posting. You will get there, you have come a long way already from what you have told us on here. Only a few more steps along the way to go and thre is lots of hand holding on here ( plus BIWI's stick!)

Still full of a cold and feel shite and one or other of theDC been up with it the last two nights so am shattered. Got a wedding this evening so may go back to bed for a bit

MulledwineGless · 30/12/2012 10:11

Ps toomuchheuch, loving the Hogmanay name ( am working lates tomorrow Xmas Sad

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/12/2012 14:46

NSSS glad to hear you are feeling better.

I basically have put on about 3-4 lbs I think which isn't too bad for me based on what I've eaten. I've read a book called the diabetic diet which has alleviated my low carb and diabetic fears a little and also made me cry in places as I understood better my difficulties with losing weight and insulin and medications. It is basically very similar to bootcamp except breakfast is even more low carb than other meals due to something called the dawn phenomenon where your blood sugars rise first thing despite no food - I knew this happened to me but had never thought to adjust carb intake to combat it further.

He does say that artificial sweeteners are better for sweet cravings/treats if diabetic and I think I knew that but good to read it. Obviously the less of these the better. He also talked about something he which I think he calls the Chinese restaurant effect whereby if you eat a massive amount of food, however low carb, free from anything (eg a whole head if lettuce) that your body will think you are eating more as it squeezes through the intestine and will produce insulin that you don't need which I hadn't thought about before. I may well be explaining it not quite right but get the idea!

Anyway, I feel much better prepared for bootcamp come January 7th anyway which is the main thing!!! Sorry for the essay, but it was one of those lightbulb moments for me!!

WillieWaggledagger · 30/12/2012 15:03

you have piqued my interest MrsHP - a quick google has brought this up, which i think must be quoted from the book you're reading?

interesting, because i am moving away from the eating little and often idea towards eating less frequent, larger (low carb) meals, and this suggests that even so it's important not to go too far. i suppose it's another case of recognising the signs of being full and not overeating

the body is just so complex it's fascinating

MrsHerculePoirot · 30/12/2012 15:12

Yes that quote is from the book. It seemed to make sense when I read it as I am definitely an over eater and portion sizes are a problem for me. It gave me a scientific reason if you like to be careful!

halfthesize · 31/12/2012 11:16

Hope everyone has a great new yearSmile

I have had a rubbish morning, had to have my youngest cat put to sleep as she was so poorlySad

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/12/2012 11:34

Oh half I am so sorry to hear that - what a rubbish end to the year. Big hugs.

ToomuchheuchatendofHogmanay · 31/12/2012 11:41

Hi guys, hope everyone is enjoying the festivities. I have weighed in this morning just to scare myself and I am 3 lbs up in a week. I'm pretty sure a fair bit of that is water retention as my abdomen looks like I swallowed a bowling ball nothing to do with the entire Brie on oatcakes and red wine last night

It's strange, I thought I would go for different treats than I have. Yes I enjoyed my Lindt chocs having one or two a day but I've basically ignored the cheaper chocs from selection boxes and tins. I've not gone crazy for toast either.

ToomuchheuchatendofHogmanay · 31/12/2012 11:48

Xposted with half, so sorry to hear that. Sad

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 31/12/2012 12:00

Sorry to hear that half Sad

MulledwineGless · 31/12/2012 14:22

Oh half, am so sorry about your cat sending big hugs

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 31/12/2012 15:23

Well, last day of carbfest here! Am catering for 20 tonight, so have gone for the easy option and made lasagne.

We have a mountain of chocolates still to get through, so I suspect DH will be doing his annual job of hoovering them all up!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole break, but am looking forward to getting back on track, and getting back to the gym. Tomorrow will be a wipe out day, as we usually don't get to bed till around 5am on NYE, and then it's back to normal on Wednesday.

I'm a bit Shock by how many people have signed up for the next Bootcamp!

OP posts:
sybilfaulty · 31/12/2012 15:46

So sorry about your cat, Half. I am a cat lover too and know how you must be feeling. Big hugs to you.

Have been posting on the other thread. THere are LOADS of us. How fantastic. I haven't weighed but look, too, as if I am about 6 months gone. It's the bloat from the carbs. But after tomorrow - water, delicious food and abstinence beckon.

Have a wonderful evening tonight everyone. Happy new year to you all

WillieWaggledagger · 31/12/2012 16:00

half, what a rotten day for you, sorry to hear that

NewStartSameStory · 31/12/2012 16:04

Sorry about the cat half

biwi you said something fairly similar at the beginning of this bootcamp and lots just seemed to disappear into the ether along the way. Also perhaps is seems so many because you have a huge no of regulars and actually the newbies - whilst there being a lot aren't as many as the list suggests? Kinda scary thought for you to be in charge of so many people. biwi to conquer the world next WinkGrin
