30 day challenge-anyone in?

So it's a month now until all my Christmassy stuff starts properly. My work night out is on the 14th. I've been fannying about and not doing anything about this extra weight for the last year and I need to make a start now. I don't have loads to lose-I'm 5.2 and 9.8 but I'm feeling really wobbly and sluggish and all my clothes are too tight. So I'm going to:

  1. be healthy eating-under maintenance cals-lots of fruit and veg, more protein and less snarky rubbish.
  2. no drinking in the week-recently I've been drinking nightly 1-2glasses of wine and this is no good for mind or body.
  3. Some hand weights, sit ups, a walk or the shred daily-this may be tricky as I do have health problems but I will try my best. Anyone in with their own pre Christmas challenge? :)

Yes! Just thinking this this morn. I pledge to lose 8 pounds and exercise hard twice weekly. :-)

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 13/11/2012 14:15

I'm in too. :) Would like to lose a stone.

Sunseed · 13/11/2012 14:51

Oh, I've been fannying about for ages not actually getting on with losing weight. I keep on starting running and trying to eat well but then get sidetracked and it all slides horribly backwards again. I want to feel good about dressing up for Christmas events and stop feeling fat and frumpy.

I am going to:

Cut back on wine
Run (or walk/run) 3-4 times per week
Shred on each day that I don't run

RufflingFeathers · 13/11/2012 14:59

I'll join you. This time last year I stopped snacking between meals and did more exercise and lost 1.5stone+ without 'dieting' as such.
I've kept it all off, but some of the good habits I established (not snacking/exercise), have become a little inconsistent.

I'd love to do some Shreds again, and feel like my arms are toned !

So for me:

  1. no snacking between meals or in evenings
  2. no crisps at all (they are my weakness rather than choc)
  3. exercise 3x a week at least
  4. 3 pieces of fruit/veg at least per day

How does that sound?

awaywego1 · 13/11/2012 15:33

That all sounds excellent! Grin Glad im not alone! There's something about it being a month which makes it feel more manageable-although I will pick it up again post Xmas. I need to lose around a stone but would be happy with 4-5 pounds. Am tracking on myfitnesspal for now to get my head around it all.

Yup count me in too! Hopefully you guys might help me! Have put on about a stone in past 2 years when I started working from home. That has come to an end and kids both at school so no excuse. For me it's snacking on all sorts of rubbish ESP sweets and choc and crisps and biscuits. Need to cut them all out and up my exercise. Looking forward to kicking it off tomorrow!

NotNeeemo · 13/11/2012 21:10

I too am up for this challenge, slimming world, 3 days exercise cut back on wine.... Lose a stone Grin

awaywego1 · 13/11/2012 21:15

Well I've done 2days now-no alcohol and eating less-under 1200 cals ouch
Haven't managed to do any exercise yet as I've been unwell but am planning to do something tommorow evening if I feel better enough.

TwllBach · 13/11/2012 21:25

I'm really bad at keeping up with threads, but I'm putting my name down Grin I lost a stone in seven weeks, starting September, then had half term Blush

I just cut out snacking and lunch Monday to Friday but then still have takeaway/breakfast/lunch/snacks on weekends. I'm following the same pattern and am hoping to lose at least another half stone in the next five weeks although another stone would be nice

awaywego1 · 14/11/2012 11:06

Today i am in the terrible biscuit place of work, am trying my hardest to resist temptation. Somewhat spurred on by the fact that when i weighed in this morning i was down 2 pounds, obviously mainly water but was super happy to be under 9 and a half stone!
Hope everyone else is doing well..we will look glorious and feel amazing in our party frocks-oh yes ;)

RufflingFeathers · 14/11/2012 13:30

Hello All, not doing super great so far today !! got back at lunchtime and was starving so ate two biscuits before I even made lunch - such empty calories !!
But have managed to stay away from crisps in cupboard - yeahh !

Jahan - am impressed that you can even contemplate weightloss at this point!

Away - cos you started this thread, you've got to inspire us all with your encouraging stories, ha ha ! so well done on resisting the biscuits !

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 14/11/2012 13:40

Had a salad last night and a couple of weight watchers crackers and that's all I had yesterday.

Only had Broccoli and cheese the day before.

Haven't eaten yet today, trying to be strategic about it but have worked out at Physio.

I swear the Physios exercises are worse than the Shred!

CiderwithBuda · 14/11/2012 13:44

Can I join please?

I joined WW last January and did really well and by June had lost 33 lbs. It has all gone a bit hit and miss since then and I have regained almost half a stone. Went back to WW yesterday after not going for four weeks and am back in the right headspace now.

Am crap at exercising. Always manage to find something else to do!

But I was going to a toning machine place and walking there and back and it made a huge difference so from Monday I will start that again. Am in midst of decluttering the house and have lots of other things on this week but will try to do something - even if it is just dancing around the kitchen!

Jahan · 14/11/2012 14:39

Rufflingfeathers I have to lose some weight asap as i seriously can't get into any clothes except jogging/yoga pants. I feel terrible.
Im also taking the next 30 days as time to sort myself out.
Im taking a good multi vit plus some liquid vit d, drinking 8 glasses of water, switching to green tea, using a whitening toothpaste, oil cleansing my skin and using a moisturiser daily and putting oil in my hair once a week.
Hopefully I'll look and feel less frumpy in a months time :-)

awaywego1 · 14/11/2012 15:03

Ruffling-encouraging stories? erm i'm bloody starving! but determined not to go over calories today, so far ive had a slice of marmite on toast, banana, apple and yogurt. I'm planning spicy soup for tea and a curly wurly as a treat Grin Im also going to try and do my hand weights watching tele and a few sit ups. Really craving a wine-but i am not having one until friday!
Well done to everyone giving it a go-be spurred on by christmas cake at the end of it all!

Jahan-i like your eight glasses of water a day, i'll steal that one. I'm vit d deficient so must remember to take my supplement daily too. Would fully reccomend it to anyone.

CiderwithBuda · 14/11/2012 15:10

Schro - is that really all you ate all day?? You can't keep that up. Not good for you.

Away - have more protein. Fills you up longer.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 14/11/2012 15:18

Recovering from a sickness bug! I can't really eat more than that or I feel ill. :(

awaywego1 · 14/11/2012 19:17

Schro-hope you feel better soon Smile

OP posts:
SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 14/11/2012 21:53

Thank you. :) Just that bloody winter sickness thing. Feeling a lot better now, it's just I couldn't really eat anything so taking it slowly. :)

awaywego1 · 14/11/2012 23:02

Glad you're feeling better, those sicky bugs can really linger.
Good day food wise although I definately need to up the protein to stave odd hunger. Didn't get time to do the sacked off the exercise so will try again tommorow.
Hope you've all had a good day.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 15/11/2012 11:57

Hey, thanks and yeah they can.

Glad you had a good day. I am loving weight watchers crackers. I got the garlic and herb ones and they are yummy and really low calorie (55 per 4 crackers), laughing cow cheese on them, the extra light ones are only 20 calories a triangle!

Had egg mayonaise salad last night. Got Hellmans extra light mayonaise and it's only 10 calories a tbsp!

Done some exercise at physio as well, weights and stuff and done some sit ups at home.

So far, I have lost over a stone since the bug started. Now 10st and need to lose another 1 and a half.

Hope you and everyone else has a good day today! :)

Jes33 · 15/11/2012 15:51

Good day here yesterday food wise and managed an exercise class and dog walk..... Today though is miserable here and drank coffee all morning and one biscuit!! No dog walk yet although might try later. Intending to cook a nice dinner too - saw in WW magazine and looks quite easy. Chicken with olives and tomatoes and cous cous. Will let you know how it tastes. Trying to resist standing on scales every day too.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 15/11/2012 16:09

Jes "Chicken with olives and tomatoes and cous cous." That sounds gorgeous. Apparently that diet coke chicken is really low fat as well, it's lovely, have you tried that? Really simple too.

Having food now (egg mayo salad again) and have spent the afternoon making cupcakes (luckily I hate cake so no temptation!)
