30 day challenge-anyone in?

So it's a month now until all my Christmassy stuff starts properly. My work night out is on the 14th. I've been fannying about and not doing anything about this extra weight for the last year and I need to make a start now. I don't have loads to lose-I'm 5.2 and 9.8 but I'm feeling really wobbly and sluggish and all my clothes are too tight. So I'm going to:

  1. be healthy eating-under maintenance cals-lots of fruit and veg, more protein and less snarky rubbish.
  2. no drinking in the week-recently I've been drinking nightly 1-2glasses of wine and this is no good for mind or body.
  3. Some hand weights, sit ups, a walk or the shred daily-this may be tricky as I do have health problems but I will try my best. Anyone in with their own pre Christmas challenge? :)

does it cost anything other than the cost of food? :D I'm not willing to pay for any products or subscription.

500 cals a days is very low, no?

awaywego1 · 19/11/2012 16:48

Schro-are you only eating 500cals a day everyday?? [surely not-faints at the thought]

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 17:38

No, I just bought the book ages ago on Amazon for £1. Haven't tried it though.

It is low but I am pretty inactive and unable physically to do much exercise.

Away Yes, every day. 500 cal limit and no sugar, bread or pasta (apart from once this entire time). :( Pretty used to it now though.

Falling off the wagon tonight though! Can't get to the shops because of the weather so we need to phone takeaway. Tbh, I am quite looking forward to it! Back to normal tomorrow though.

awaywego1 · 19/11/2012 18:25

Blimey schro-that is hardcore. I struggled with 5:2 and that was only eating 500 cals twice a week. I'm sure you know what you are doing but do look after yourself, listen to your body etc etc Smile

OP posts:
SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 19:32

Tbh, I tried 5:2 for a bit, I thought that was harder as I wasn't getting into a daily pattern IYSWIM?

So... We had to get take out tonight, I ordered a kebab. I think my stomach has shrunk, 14mo DS managed to eat more than me! Shock

Don't worry though. :) I will listen to my body and although it's a smallish amount of calories, I am eating a fair bit of low calorie food like salad.

How are you doing today?

McNally · 19/11/2012 21:20

5:2 is my worst nightmare. There is not a chance I could do it! The more I have to think about food the more I end up eating... Schro glad you are listening to your body as 500 cals a day really doesn't seem enough. Even on the 5:2 it is just 2 days out of 7? Hope you enjoyed the kebab tonight. You definitely earned it!

I'm having a bit of a set back as the Shred seems to have done something bad to my back. The cardio sections hurt it quite a bit. Not sure whether to keep going or not as want to complete it now I've started it but don't want to damage my back as I know how awful that can be.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 21:30

McNally 5:2 is my worst nightmare as well, if I am not continually restricting my calorie intake and in a daily routine I will just think about food too much and eat it. Kebab was nice, didn't even manage a quarter before my stomach hurt. Not cut out for them anymore, tasted lush though.

I really think the shred is a bit dangerous actually, especially if you have big boobs and don't have a completely amazing sports bra. All those jumping jacks are a bit too high impact on a daily basis imo.

Please give your poor back a break, try youtubing some yoga or pilates exercises that might be a bit kinder.

McNally · 19/11/2012 22:01

Schro I was having to fold my boobs into my pre-pregnancy sports bra so I only have myself to blame really Blush. Damn, thought the Shred was the answer as can just about fit it in during one of my baby's naps.

I'm a bit worried about you and the 500 cals. Hope you are taking care of yourself.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 22:07

McNally Thank you but seriously, don't worry. :)

I have a medical condition that means regular exercise just isn't sustainable and I can only do it when I feel really well. Basically, I'm not really doing much to burn many calories anyway and I don't feel I need to eat more IYSWIM? I'm also really quite short (just under 5'2") so my daily calories wouldn't be 2000 anyway. :)

If you have big boobs don't do high impact exercise in a badly fitted bra! Shock First time I did the shred, I wasn't even wearing a bra and I'm a 32GG! I learned the hard way, please don't do the same!

McNally · 19/11/2012 22:20

Schro ok, if you are sure. I'm the same height as you and 34GG! Spooky! I will take your advice on the Shred. Seems there is no short cuts! Waaahh!

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 22:55

That is a bit spooky... At least buy a very good sports bra that is properly fitted and leave it for a few days?

I was a 34GG before I started dieting, bought a brand new bra from Bravissimo which was fitted for me at 34GG 2 weeks ago and now I have to wear it on the tightest clip and it's still too big. Someone on the bra thread reckons I must actually need a 30! Shock

awaywego1 · 19/11/2012 23:00

I'm a 5 foot twoer too waves sadly not so well endowed in the boobage area tho!

OP posts:
SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 23:24

Away I'd gladly swap. :o It's really not a good thing...

McNally · 19/11/2012 23:33

I agree. Though does give me an excuse not to do the Shred Wink.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 19/11/2012 23:38

Haha.

Jes33 · 20/11/2012 12:57

Goodness 500 is very little. You must be hardcore! I reckon I've just packed away 500 at lunch as I decided to have some crisps... Not sure why but never mind.

No shred here - just a couple of classes a week and dog walking. Have weighed myself today and think I have lost 4 lbs so quite happy. Need to keep going though and up the walking... So far this week my increased fruit intake has been zilch and my water intake is approx 3 a day!

Hows everyone else getting on?

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 20/11/2012 13:06

Jes I'm really not, it's that low constantly as I don't have much willpower unless I have a routine.

My meals aren't small, they're just filled with lots of low/no carb, practically fat free and low calorie foods (salad and a bit of egg mayo or fish). Did you know a pack of cooked mussels from Asda is only 98 cals and a laughing cow cheese triangle if light is only 20?. Wink

I also only eat one meal a day so my meal is big. :) It's working for me and I am happy with it.

Get the WW crisps! They're only about 75 calories a pack and are really lovely (I am not associated with WW btw but their food is quite decent).

What classes are you going to?

ankh · 20/11/2012 14:06

@SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus I don't mean to be disrespectful at all but I would check this with your GP... 500 cal for several days is fine but I believe for weeks or months it's not a good idea regardless of your level of exercise.

Good day today for me, yoghurt with berries in the morning, 2x coffees with a bit of skimmed milk, salad with chicken bits at lunch, and planning for veal & sautee mushrooms for dinner.

Getting on the scale once a week, don't want to do it more often. Will do Fridays weigh ins til Xmas.

awaywego1 · 20/11/2012 15:24

I'm not doing great this week, virusey horribleness an generally feeling down in the dumps has left me feeling unmotivated. Have not been eating terribly but certainly not as healthily as I'd like. Am going to go back to work tommorow hopefully so will try and get back on it.
Like shro I have a long term health problem which means exercise is not usually possible, I'd love to go for a run but its a struggle to get out of bed at the moment so I don't think it's going to happen-which is frustrating because then it all depends on cutting back food wise which I don't find easy. Sad
Sorry for rant! Hope everyone is doing better than me Smile

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 20/11/2012 16:54

Ankh It's fine, I understand your worry. :) I'm waiting on the GP phoning me back anyway about something else so I will say to him then.

Glad you're having a good day. :)

Away Sorry to hear you aren't well. :( Is it that sickness bug? That's what started my diet! Couldn't eat so thought I wouldn't go back to eating crap. Hope you are okay for work, just don't push yourself too much.

Not being able to exercise is horrible, isn't it? You feel kind of hopeless when it comes to weight and negative comments don't really help like "eat less" because when you are practically inactive and also short it takes an awful cut down on calories to get anywhere.

I don't think my scales are working right, they keep going up and down so I don't know if it's them or me retaining water but I have went down nearly 2 sizes so am definitely losing weight.

McNally · 20/11/2012 21:26

Well done on the weight/dress size loss Jes and Schro and on the good diet day ankh (v impressed with the menu!). Very sorry to hear you are not well away. Hope you are feeling better - you need to take it easy and make sure you are eating enough to recover.

It must be frustrating to not be able to exercise. I'm not doing much at the moment but it must be hard if that isn't your decision.

Weighed myself this morning. No loss (but no gain either). Not a massive surprise as still struggling with food quite badly.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 20/11/2012 21:31

Well, seems my diet can't stick and I wont lose anymore weight because tonight... I found out I am pregnant. Confused

I still hope everyone will do well and I will still keep checking in.

awaywego1 · 20/11/2012 21:49

Schro-congratulations? How are you feeling about it?? You need to get eating pronto my love Grin

OP posts:
SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 20/11/2012 21:54

Thanks. :) Not feeling to good about it tbh. I am on the nuvaring and can't really work at present because of the health problems. :( I already have DS who is just turning 14 months.

Way ahead of you, have just finished a full pack of appeteaser cheeses and about to demolish a pizza and then minstrels. not comfort eating, no siree. :o

awaywego1 · 20/11/2012 22:25

Oh love that's so hard and must be a real shock-do you have a partner around to support you? I think comfort eating is entirely Appropriate in this situation-knock yourself out love!
I imagine a 14 month old is quite a handful-do you have anyone who could give you a break tommorow so you can have a bit of space to think?
Thinking of you x
