Brilliant LV, keep it upSmile.
I'm down 1lb this week, to 10st 3. 1st more and my BMI will be in the "healthy" category for the first time in adulthood!

TheOneWithTheHair · 28/01/2013 13:39

Hi everyone. I'm still here. I'm going to weigh tomorrow and I'll catch up then. :)

northender · 28/01/2013 14:49

Well done LV and IMST.
I'm still here too but have not had the greatest of weeks so will probably not weigh this week. My overall eating pattern is much better than it was 3 months ago so I have to be happy with that and hope that I get on top of the weight loss soon.

IMST, I'm in awe of your WL but more so the major drop in dress size. I soooo want that. Being a smaller dress size is my big goal, well my secret goal is something to do with a bikini ... But I daren't even vocalise that here. I'm an 18, at Christmas it was a fairly snug 18, now 13 pounds lighter everything buttons up properly and looks a much much better fit and even quite baggy! But I want to be a 16, or maybe even a 14 ( I've not been a 14 for about 20+ years!)

So I'm shredding most days. Last week I did level 2. O god!

Weigh in today is 3lb loss. Yaaaay!!

I want to pick someone's brain about calories ....anyone?!

LollipopViolet · 28/01/2013 21:22

Well done everyone who's lost :)

My plan tomorrow includes getting a later bus home from the rink so I have more skating time, and time to get a nice (healthy) lunch. Then I intend to come home and try and find a long sleeve top of some sort that I can wear to skate in, because in my rink, I'm actually starting to get too warm wearing my hoodie.

The great thing is, I've got this awesome picture of me in full skating gear, on the ice, in this rather cool pose, and in a few more weeks I'll get another one taken to see if my shape has changed :)

steppemum · 28/01/2013 21:41

Oh LV I love the sound of your skating, great way to exercise!

well I weighed in this morning. 1lb lost which is ok as I had a rubbish weekend with chocolate biscuits, and snow last week meant I didn't get out walking.

been really busy today so only just got to computer.

I had a great evening with ds doing 11+ prep and over the weekend I was worrying about him, because we had a bust up on friday over something that had happened at school. So I am now wondering how much my munching is related to my turbulant relationship with ds.

I am thinking of doing 5:2 fasting. I have fasted before and can do it once I get into the right frame of mind. I have been reading a lot if interesting thigns about it.

Has anyone done this?

KatoPotato · 28/01/2013 22:19

Wahh go team!! I'm still scared to weigh! But I've been very good, went a 2.5 mile run this morning and bodypump this eve... I'll weigh tomorrow!

InMySpareTime · 28/01/2013 23:20

Tobermory, what about calories?
WRT dress size, it took ages for me to noticeably drop inches as I was already fairly active, but when it started to go (about a month in) I seemed to lose steadily to the point I am now.
I seem to be densely built, at one point I had an obese BMI but was a size 12/14 trouser, 10 top. We're all different, and lose weight/change shape differently.
Keep motivated everyone, we're all getting there, all at different stages and rates, but all heading down the scales and looking better all the time!

Tobermory · 29/01/2013 08:29

IMST, obese bmi and size 10 top? Really?!

I've been doing some mulling and trying to discover what is healthy in terms of a calorifiic daily goal.
MFP reduced my daily calories a week or so ago To 1260 and I'm a bit worried that's too low.im finding that number fairly easy, I can do it without trying too hard, i really seem to have had a subtle shft in my attitude to food. But everything I read online indicates that it is a bit low but can't find anything which identifies a healthy calories for weight loss.
In the last couple of Days I've upped it to 1350 and yesterday ate a hot cross bun with my extra capacity. That hot cross bun, freshly made but no butterwas amazing

Tobermory · 29/01/2013 08:32

Kato, 2.5 mile run and body pump in the same day? Wow, you must be so fit!

I shredded last night, treating myself to 'easy' level 1 after my first two sessions of level 2 and today going walking with a friend. Ths morning though, I'm very achey and wondering if last nights shred was a wise way to prepare! Just think of the calories!!

hazleweatherfieldgirldetective · 29/01/2013 08:46

I need some motivation. Got on the scales last week and I'd gone down to 16st6. I was so happy and pleased it was working and kept trying really hard for the whole week. Got on the scales this morning... 17st.

I just feel like giving up. I used the same scales, on the same floor, in the same spot, wearing the same clothes, at the same time of day as usual. And somehow I've gained over half a stone. I just want to cry. What's the point in watching what I eat if I'm going to gain weight?

steppemum · 29/01/2013 09:02

hazel, my weight does this. I find that for no reason I can gain or drop half a stone. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that it is to do with water retention adn time of the month etc. So if I have been sitting a lot, travelling etc my weight will shoot up.

I tend to not get excited about weight loss until it goes over 7 lbs.

Don't give up, keep going. I also find that the blips and ups and downs can be demoralising, so I try and remember the underlying trend.

(giving myself a pep talk here too as I have just started, haven't done this for years)

steppemum · 29/01/2013 09:03

anyone done the 5:2 fasting?

northender · 29/01/2013 09:09

iirc gussie is doing 5:2 fasting.

InMySpareTime · 29/01/2013 09:32

Tobermory, the number of calories each person needs is extremely variable. I am 5' short but quite active, I have been netting around 1000 calories a day most of last year, upped it to 1200 this year to slow down the weight loss, aiming to stop gradually. MFP won't set you less than 1200 even if that's what you need, it has a lowest setting.
Go by how you feel, if you're consistently lethargic and catching bug after bug, perhaps you need to up it a bit, if the weight isn't shifting, down a bit. Do what works for you, not what might have worked for someone.

steppemum · 29/01/2013 09:41

gosh, 1000 a day seems very low.

KatoPotato · 29/01/2013 10:39

Hazel don't be disheartened! I'm trying not to be despite my scales telling me I've gained 3lbs this morning!! (I usually weigh on a Friday so will stay off until then!)

It's not a basic science, and we just need to keep doing the right things and making the right choices!

InMySpareTime · 29/01/2013 11:02

Steppe, I was eating just under 1200, but walk a fair distance each day.
There's not much to me, it seems wrong that someone 8 inches taller would need the same number of calories as me.
Also, I haven't been hungry eating at that level, and lost a steady 2lb a week with no lack of energy.
I eat very little processed food, lots of veg, you can get a lot of food in 1000 calories if it's mostly veg-based.

Tobermory · 29/01/2013 12:07

By comparison IMST im very tall, 6ft and being much more active this past month. Have gone from not working out at all to doing something most days and Ive not been eating my excercise calories which i guess is speeding up my loss. I was just a bit worried I was losing too fast. Me, worried about losing weight too fast is v strange! Sunday was the only day i felt lethargic though that was possibly also down to lack of sleep!

steppemum · 29/01/2013 12:38

yes, I can see that if you add loads of fresh veg your actual calorie intake would be quite low. hadn't thought of that actually. I am added loads more veg to everything, so reducing potatoes and meat portions etc.

I did an on line calorie thing. It was quite interesting. It was connnected with one of the channel 4 programmes. It said that if you are bigger your body actually needs more calories to work at rest. So you use more calories just existing. Then add in moving and if you are bigger you use more calories moving around.

When I put in height and weight it told my that at rest (so if I stayed in bed all day) I would need 2,200 calories.

I found that pretty encouraging. It means that you need to eat less and less as you loose, but that means a more gentle start! And it means that if you are eating around 2,000 and being active, you should be loosing.

Not sure I entirley believe it, but it was food for thought. I am tall 5'8'' and I have cut out all snacks, but eat three normal ish meals (lots more veg as I said) and it seems to be slowly coming off, so we will see.

Tobermory · 29/01/2013 13:03

Sounds interesting Steppe. can you remember the link? Are you doing MFP? What did it suggest for calorie intake?

MFP and counting calories has been quite eye opening for me. I mean, i knew I at too much, snacked on the wrong things, portions too big but I didnt realise by how much. Its making me much more aware of what i'm puttign into my body. What food choices I'm making.

steppemum · 29/01/2013 13:21

sorry not doing MFP - don't have a smart phone.
At the moment I am not counting calories. Will probably have to do that later if cutting down stops working.

I am doing 5:2 - today is my first fast day, and I had to do weekly shop. Not a great combination!

steppemum · 29/01/2013 13:21

sorry can't remember the link
