I can't see how low carbing can be bad , given that pre low carbing most of my carbs were things like bread , potatoes and rice /pasta , none of which was wholemeal . Or those evil sugary carbs Wink

Can i ask is anyone taking any supplements ? i went out and bought all the ones suggested in the IPD , which cost me a small fortune and then didnt start the diet . They are still hiding in the wardrobe , must go and peel all the price tags off before getting them out !

BigBroomstickBIWI · 08/10/2012 14:05

I take Berocca - just as a general multivitamin really. Also a good way to get my first half litre of water down! And a calcium/vitamin D/magnesium supplement (a Boots one) - mainly for menopause but also as there's an increasing amount of stuff about the importance of vitamin D for lng term health.

Willie what a fantastic post Thanks thanks for sharing it with us x

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:12

Vitamin B and Calcium/Magnesium here too. Pesky menopause

BigBroomstickBIWI · 08/10/2012 14:13

I seem to be through the menopause without too much trouble. Hot flushes have all but disappeared, skin is much better. Low carbing definitely helps, hopefully the supplements have as well. I was taking Boots Menolieve but gave that up a month or so ago.

Thank you for sharing your story willie Thanks

tbh i've been feeling a bad that i haven't been entirely honest until now, especially when others have said that they feel they weigh a lot more than others on here and have felt a bit demoralised.

IME, whatever your weight, if you can get over the initial big hurdle of the first few days and into the swing of it and follow the rules, low carbing is your best bet for getting yourself to the weight you want and staying there (ignoring the positive health aspects low-carbing)

frumpet i hadn't been taking anything but am now taking a multi-vitamin, but i'm not sure whether it will make much difference to me

princess it's awful isn't it, you really notice the volume of marketing of crap on this woe

NewStartSameStory · 08/10/2012 14:17

Calcium (with D and K), Multi vitamin, and B vitamins suppliments. But I have nutritional deficiency issues.

frumpet · 08/10/2012 14:17

Right will have a good rummage and see whats in the bag , think will take the vit b and the herbal one that helps your liver , given that i have now given up the demon drink ! If there is anything else i am not taking , will list on here and anyone who wants it can have it .

frumpet · 08/10/2012 14:29

ok i have :

whole psyllium husks - for helping with the old bowel movements

time release low acid vitamin c 1000

bio fish oil capsules 1000mg

chromium 200

am keeping the other stuff . They are all in date and sealed containers . If anyone wants any of them , just pm me your address and i will send them.

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:31

Keep the psyllium and vitamin C in case you run into constipation issues.

Vit C in big doses is a very effective laxative

frumpet · 08/10/2012 14:33

Jins i am blessed where my bowels are concerned , i only bought them because they were on the list !

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:36

You lucky thing. My bowels are a nightmare. Recently more so than usual but rest assured it's not dietary in case anyone is concerned about the long term effects of low carbing

(it's gravity, menopause and age :( )

frumpet · 08/10/2012 14:38

Do you want the pysillium Jins ? i dont want any money for them ? The man in the shop said they were excellent .

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:41

Thanks frumpet but I'm on a low fibre diet and a cocktail of drugs at the moment while I await surgery

frumpet · 08/10/2012 14:42

Fairy snuff Smile , hope all goes well for you Jins .

Jins · 08/10/2012 14:43

Thanks. I've got my fingers crossed too

CackleMeIAmYours · 08/10/2012 15:00

Oh Willie Here, have a very big and unmumsnetty hug from me Smile

Doshusallie · 08/10/2012 15:12

Wow to all the big losses, well bloody done everybody!!

Good luck VNMum for tomorrow!

Willie - thanks for sharing all that, very brave of you, big hugs.

Like Sybil, I had necked a pint of water when I woke up having overslept, so will weigh tomorrow, am expecting to be a pound up, back to the damn 9 3.

B: Greek yoghurt, DTWLFM, Berocca
L: salad, olives, tuna, 2 boiled eggs, roasted veg, slices of ham, mayo

2 litres of water so far, 2 decaf coffees.

Ran 3 miles at the gym this morning.

Anyone else do Pilates? Am going to try a class tomorrow night.

queribus · 08/10/2012 15:26

Oh bloody hell. Had a rubbish week and I've put on weight. Only myself to blame but feel very down now.

Prawn stir fry for dinner and an early night.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/10/2012 15:32

hi all, just woke up from my drug induced nap. Weighed earlier and it says I have lost 1lb. oh well, better off than on.

Cant complain had carbs at weekend and people insist I eat carbs with these meds as they are strong and kill my tummy.

I know once I am fit and well and properly low carbing all will be well again.

tartiflette · 08/10/2012 15:33

Yes Willie thank you Smile

captainmummy · 08/10/2012 15:40

I got on the scales this mornng and was only 0.7lb down Sad - then had to run to the loo before work, to, errrrm, get rid of the rest of that lb! So all good really.

Last night I had shepherds pie with celeriac mash - the mash i find really sweet, and almost metallic in taste, even with butter and cream in. Not a fan. Finished off with lidl greek yog, which i find really filling, felt stuffed all evening.

EwanHoozami · 08/10/2012 16:11

queribus don't feel down, what's done is done. New week, new start and all that. Enjoy your prawns & snooze.

Doshu I love pilates, despite being a malcoordinated oaf. It's sorted out my postnatal SPD and makes me feel so much stronger and more limber. When I can't get to a class (which is most of the time) I have Darcey Bussell's DVD. She's not as annoying as you'd imagine!
