We managed to fill the thread before the end of the week, so I'm starting the next one.

Happy to support you doing it Shine. Particularly as we are in the same boat weight wise. It is a mind shift from low cal to low carb but if I can do it anyone can, and it's now just a way of life in my household - DH isn't doing it but fully accepts what I will and won't eat.

Funniest thread everGrin

How much have you lost Dosh? What's your ultimate goal? Lots of people tell me to stop now that I'm slim and accuse me of being obsessed. I'm not - i just know what I wanted to weigh and it seems daft to give up just a few lbs away from goal. Yes, it's quite the mind shift isn't it?

vnmum · 11/10/2012 11:52

shine maintaining on low carb will be much more enjoyable than having to eat so few calories for the rest of your life. I certainly don't see why it won't work for you Smile

OliviaLMumsnet · 11/10/2012 12:00

Urgent: Help I desperately want a biscuit
What can I have?

NewStartSameStory · 11/10/2012 12:03

Shiney, it is more a case that they are worried about you making that transition from healthy weight loss to obsessive out of control weight loss. It can happen all too easily. 9 stone is not a bad weight for your height. Equally it is hard to shift the mindset from focused weight loss to healthy maintaining especially if you have had a weight loss, regain cycle going on in the past that you are desperate to prevent. Personally I like this as it is about a healthy view of food compared to a lot of methods of weight loss. I reckon you are determined enough to make it work.

NewStartSameStory · 11/10/2012 12:04

Olivia: Celery, ham, boiled egg, low fat yoghurt...

WillieWaggledagger · 11/10/2012 12:05

do you have access to really strong cheddar that you can have a slice of instead?

also, seriously, the biscuit isn't worth it. there are plenty of biscuits in the world, and this isn't your first and last chance to eat one. let the biscuit go, it will make you feel crappy both in body and mind

Doshusallie · 11/10/2012 12:09

Olivia - all of what Newstart said apart from the Low fat yoghurt - you want full fat yoghurt.

Doshusallie · 11/10/2012 12:13

Shine - I have come down from 9 6 to 9 1 but am now hovering between 9 3 and 9 2 becuase I can't lay off the wine. Grin

It may seem like a minimal loss - but on a low cal WOE I maintained at about 9 6 and 9 5 by going without lots of things that I wanted. I was always hungry. I got the shakes if I didn't eat every 3 hours. My sleep was disorderd, I lacked energy, I would have blood sugar spikes and slumps. I was ADDICTED to bread. Would eat bagels as a snack, buy bread in garages when on the road. I had to exercise twice as much as i do now.

I eat extremely healthily now and am never hungry. the food is amazing and very satisfying. I also drink about 3 times the water I used to drink, my hair, nails and skin are in great condition. i don't get bloated and am much more "regular".

I am very happy at 9 2 but would like to see if laying off the wine and dairy get me to 9 which would be my ideal. I follow Low carb to the letter in all other ways.

OliviaLMumsnet · 11/10/2012 12:18

Do have cheese
will do that thanks MNers
Had already had an avocado
ANnoying day today and just really want a biscuit

Doshusallie · 11/10/2012 12:19

Have lunch Olivia?

TellMeLater · 11/10/2012 12:20

Shineon if you decide to low carb, invest in Celia brooks brown's veggie low carb cook book it's fab.

Inspired by MrsRinky I just cleared the fridge of Smoky streaky bacon, back bacon, chorizo, leeks peppers, fresh goats cheese, a blue D'affinois, sour cream, semi dried tomato paste and a few eggs and made some lovely muffin sized frittatas - perfect for picnic on the trot. They are all slightly different and delicious.

dotty2 · 11/10/2012 12:20

Surely you never have annoying days at MNHQ, Olivia? (fondly imagines it as a world of plush sofas and sisterly encouragement)

NewStartSameStory · 11/10/2012 12:20

I meant low carb yoghurt Blush

captainmummy · 11/10/2012 12:25

Had a bit of a shock today - was on MN in the front room at about 830 (the dc had just left for school) and heard a bit of rustling from the front door (I have 2 front doors, with the porch in between) and thought it was the postman. Few mins later - bit more rustling. 5 mins later I heard a sniff... so I got up and opened the door - to find a young guy sitting in my porch! Hood drawn up round his face, shoes off, sitting on the old body-boards stored there, smoking a fag! He apologised, saying he'd got no-where to go, and his feet were hurting, and he was just having a sit down. I (shocked) said 'no no it's ok, you can stay there if you want' and shut the door! I went upstairs and phoned DP who lives 3 minutes away round the corner and asked him to come round as I was alone in the house. 10 minutes later I went downstairs again - the guy had gone (and DP still hadn't arrived Angry) - he said he'd had to wet his hair and comb it first!

No breakfast this morning as was too wound-up by it. - but if DP had come round straightaway I'd prob have offered the young guy some bacon and eggs.

Jins · 11/10/2012 12:29

Congrats to vnmum! Grin

Slowly improving here. May even have lost a pound

OliviaLMumsnet · 11/10/2012 12:32

Not a bad idea re lunch Blush I have had some cheese and it did work. I might make some of those parmesan crispy things at some point too.

I have soup for lunch today.

Wasn't a work-related gripe. I heart my job I do.

Am not a MN Towers today (no plush sofas there, more's the pity, tis all v exposed brick, cool chairs type of place but lots of sisterly encouragement. )

Am at home surrounded by workmen who are doing my renovations. Think we have seven here today.
{builders' bum emoticon}

halfthesize · 11/10/2012 12:34

halfthesize · 11/10/2012 12:35

oh & goes without saying water!Wink

Doshusallie · 11/10/2012 12:41

Captain - wow what a shock - I probably would have instinctively been really frightened (watched too many films involving home intruders clearly) and chucked him out, but then afterwards wished I'd been a bit kinder! GOod for you. And WTF re your DP? Hmm Shock

dotty2 · 11/10/2012 12:49

Ah builder related stress v.understandable. Best to get the biscuits out of the house first!

(I used to work somewhere with exposed brick and cool chairs. Am feeling nostalgic now.)

dotty2 · 11/10/2012 12:50
