Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

I had 3egg omelette with mushrooms which had been fried in butter and cheese for brekkie. Wasn't hungry until 2pm then had salmon and green salad with dollop of mayo.
I am not restricting portions or calories. Once you are in ketosis you won't feel hungry.
Try and stick to the rules and make it easier on yourself.
If you don't you won't stick with the way of eating and the long term health benefits really do make it worthwhile

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 15:38

Today:

B - yoghurt and vanilla
L - leftovers! Leftover belly pork and red cabbage, leftover marinated chicken with leeks and chilli
D - will be Indian takeaway - probably chicken tikka

NewStartSameStory · 05/10/2012 16:02

Is there a reason why I am feeling like I need to snack more today? Side effect of the training/starting to sleep more and being tired/change over from carbs to fat for fuel?

I feel like I have been beaten up. Everything aches. Just about to hit some pain killers too as my head hurts. Can't wait to be able to curl up and go to sleep. Only another 5hrs...

catstail · 05/10/2012 16:02

captain mummy - i love your breakfast and lunch!!
ok, i get it now I think - some people need to eat more or less than others. but theres no need to go hungry esp i i follow the rules?!!

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 16:03

NewStart - sounds like the carb flu! If you're hungry, just eat something. You are also exercising a lot and you are more likely to be feeling the effects of your body switching over from carbs to fat.

NewStartSameStory · 05/10/2012 16:10

I have been snacking but wanted to check this was likely to be diet related rather then another warped perception on food by me. i have many warped opinions wrt to food that need to be dealt with so not impossible

Thanks Biwi

EwanHoozami · 05/10/2012 16:11

Lidl is a low-carbers paradise, isn't it? The buckets of 10% fat greek yog, the ridiculously good value cold meats (bresaola for £1.99!)

Viperidae · 05/10/2012 16:13

Can comeone remind me please of the oven temperature and time for the kale crisps? I might try them this weekend although we are not very well served by shops here and I don't recall having seen Kale in the supermarket.

vnmum I went to Preston earlier this week and the Kirkham bypass was underwater in 2 places! Mind you, it was raining like the end of the world at time!

WineGless · 05/10/2012 16:18

New start - I was going to post the same as BIWI (she taught me all I know!)

Have a read of this mark Sissons

He is professional athlete and lots of good advice re training

WineGless · 05/10/2012 16:20

Catstail, got it one! The whole point of this way of eating is eating good food, enjoying it and not depriving yourself. Once you are at weight yu can start introducing higher carb veg and experimenting with what suits you and allows you to maintain your new healthy weight.

hurricanewyn · 05/10/2012 16:21

I don't know if anyone's mentioned but Aldi's Ultimate Cumberland Sausages are only 0.5g of carbs & are only £1.49 per pack. I haven't tried them yet, so not sure how they taste (till tomorrow morning) but thought it was worth mentioning.

captainmummy · 05/10/2012 16:27

Viper - i don'tknow about the oven temp or timing, I chucked mine in at about 190-200C as i was heating something else up, and leave it till its a bit brown and crispy!

halfthesize · 05/10/2012 16:43

hurricanewyn those sausages sound greatSmile

I'm feeling even worse now and both my younger DC are starting to sneeze also, I can see how this weekend is going to turn outSad
Dosing myself up with Berocca and having a warm bath, have not really eaten as feel quite sick!

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 05/10/2012 17:03

BIWI thanks for the advice. I think I'd like to stick with it a bit longer, wasn't sure if you could only do strict boot camp for a couple of weeks on health grounds. But if it's ok I'll keep going till I hit 10 stone.

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 17:20

Lavender - if it's working for you, you're not hungry and you're enjoying your food, then go for it! All of this is about finding what works for you.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 05/10/2012 17:26

ok, doped up to the hilt today and for the foreseeable future until back stops spasming. Sad posts may or not make sense...

BIWI - what yoghurt do you have? is it the total greek one?

Have been fed and looked after by DH today. thank God he was home today!
B - scrambled eggs and 2 slice bacon
L - small salad, some chicken, few slices of salami meat and a slice of cheese.
D - not had anything yet, but it is going to be lamb kebab and salad.

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 05/10/2012 17:27

A quick question, if my waitrose roasted peanuts say that 100g contains 7.1g of carbs and 6g of fibre, does this make them low carb and ideal for bootcamp or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 17:32

Lavender - I'm afraid that's wishful thinking on your part! If you have a Sainsbury's near you, they do little packs of roasted macadamia nuts that are aorund 4g carbs for a pack.

Jax - sorry to hear you're in such pain Sad. Yes, it's the Total Full Fat one. I bought the 0% fat one by mistake last week, and it's nowhere near as nice. I occasionally buy the Onken one, which is a set yoghurt. It's OK, and it's low carb, but it doesn't have as much protein as the Total one, which is important as I tend to have the yoghurt before I go to the gym.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 05/10/2012 17:33

thanks biwi

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 05/10/2012 17:38

Thanks again BIWI. Must be a mistake on the packaging, it definitely says that, even made DH check to make sure. Oh well, have to spend my evening listening to him munching peanuts and the DC devouring their Friday night treats. Will be saintly and have celery and a bit of Philly, will hurt tho.

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 17:45

UK packaging is different from US packaging - we don't subtract the fibre from the carb count.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 05/10/2012 17:48

Dinner will be pork chops and cauliflower cheese, yum! Have also had a bash at making the IPD ice cream in preparation for my birthday. We'll see how that turns out! I know it's not Bootcamp-approved, but it's better than eating real ice cream. I have requested a birthday knickerbocker glory with rhubarb or berries, whipped cream, melted dark choc and the ice cream, if it works.

butterfliesinmytummy · 05/10/2012 18:12

Just back from dinner at DH's colleague's.... Had a sip of champagne, olives, saucission, starter was mozzarella and tomato (not too good but only 2 slices), fish wrapped in parma ham and some gorgeous French cheese. Managed to leave the sweet potato and pass my chocolate mousse to DH. Drank loads of water and a herbal tea at the end - mission accomplished Wink

EwanHoozami · 05/10/2012 18:14

so it looks like 3yo DS will be having his evening meals with us for the foreseeable..

see this thread for the full story...

I better make sure that his stuffed chicken breast is the one without all the jalapenos in it!

Going forward it should be OK, I'll just do some pots / rice / couscous etc with each dinner. How are you guys with older DCs finding shared dinner times?

BigBroomstickBIWI · 05/10/2012 18:22

Well done, butterflies!
