Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Catstail I expect the beans that you are having are causing a blood sugar spike which will dissipate and leave you hungry and craving carbs.

...and yes, I also think the lack of water will also not be helping.

CakeMeIAmYours · 05/10/2012 13:06

P.s. my shoulder of lamb was just ridiculously delicious - I ate it 'caveman style' i.e. sticking it on a plate and ripping it apart with forks Smile

The mint sauce was also surprisingly nice - only had a teeny tiny bit but it was so, so good!

catstail · 05/10/2012 13:07

couldnt you make mint sauce without the artificial sweetener? would that be better? I never add sugar to mine.

ForSaletotheHighestBidder · 05/10/2012 13:09

*Catstail, if you drank more water you might not feel so hungry. Also STOP EATING BEANS! (Sorry BIWI couldn't help myself).

Breakfast was some brie wrapped in naice ham and a couple of boiled eggs. That was at 7.30am and just starting to feel a little hungry now. Have had about 2 litres of water as well and a couple of coffees.

Lunch will be poached cod and some salady stuff.

Not sure about dinner, have leftover celeriac mash, anything I could make with that a la potato cakes? Hmm

CakeMeIAmYours · 05/10/2012 13:16

Mint sauce with no sugar? Shock

You're clearly harder than I am - there's no way I could stomach it without!

How do you make it?

FWIW, there are so few carbs in the splenda that I'm not too bothered about it from that front, I'm just trying very hard to crack my sweet tooth.

CakeMeIAmYours · 05/10/2012 13:22

ForSale You could add some finely chopped shallot and leeks and make little patties which you could then fry in butter?

cathyandclaire · 05/10/2012 13:35

Hi Catstail!
I think I put 2 sausages and mushrooms down...they were v big and dense sausages (the meaty ones are much more sand a masssssssiiiivvvvee frying pan full of mushrooms and butter!
Having said that...I am quite small (well..a bit of a short-arse) and 45 so my basal calorie consumption is horribly and irritatingly low so I do have to keep a little eye on vague number of calories (hides from BIWI and her big stick) or I could eat my bodyweight in cheese and mayonnaise

Viperidae · 05/10/2012 13:49

Greeneyes I live there and sunny it ain't at the moment!! Grin Are you coming here for something special or just a break?

I've just had a good lunch of leftovers - meatzza, pork and veg curry and salad. I had a shower after the gym and have just got all hot and sweaty again cleaning the granite in the kitchen before my friend arrives for a cup of tea.

toomuch lots to do but wanting to slob out is the story of my days off! I love to have a day off when everybody else is out so I can do just that!

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 05/10/2012 13:54

Just a quick question please. If I've been doing bootcamp for a couple of weeks now but weight loss non existent for last few days, should I now be going lite or sticking with basic bootcamp for a bit longer? Have about a stone left to lose and feeling great just eying up the peanuts DH has bought to snack on later.

vnmum · 05/10/2012 13:59

littlefrieda I don't have a spare room. I did consider a nanny but would have to probably put DC in a room together so nanny could have the other room. Not sure how long that would be practical for. I haven't had an interview yet but spoke the the relevant person yesterday as an informal chat and I am expecting a reply to my application early next week. I think I should at least get an interview.
I was discussing with DH over lunch how to cover the subject of the nights being a problem if they ask it at the interview (they know DH is in the forces due to our address and them being very local). Although it may put them off I thought it would be better to be honest that the nights may be a problem when DH is away but counter it with a mention of the fact he only goes for 6 months once every 2 years and once we withdraw in 2014 there may not be many more long tours and possibly offer a possible solution. What do you more experienced people of the working world think? Is honesty the best polict from the start even if there is a slioght chance it may go against me rather than say everything is fine then have to approach them with a problem a year down the line?

Viperidae I come from Preston area so know what the northern weather can be like Smile

This is the first chance I have had to get on here today. I was helping to run a coffee morning at the school I have never seen so much home baking in my life. Glad to say I was not tempted, not even by the dumpling. It all started to look a bit disgusting actually.

Had a big mixed salad with chicken and olives and Cardinis Caesar Dressing for lunch. Just having a coffee with a little cream and a catch up on here before I have to go and pack as we are away for the weekend. I am 2 lbs down and would love another couple off by Monday, but we shall see.

I am going to do my very best to avoid alcohol this weekend. I promise!

Doshusallie · 05/10/2012 14:07

At last a movement on the scales. 1 off and now 9 2. Was starting to lose faith!

B: 3 fried eggs with mushrooms.

Vnmum: my two go to a cm 4 nights a week. We do homework and easing when we get in about 6 and spellings in the morning. It's a squeeze but we manage....

Will post more later.

butterflyexperience · 05/10/2012 14:09

I am sooo craving Chocolate but I was good and even held out when I bought the little one a chocolate muffin!

I'm hoping to lose another 2 lbs this week and maybe even by the end of next week have lost 10lbs. That's what's really keeping me going.
Still want chocolate thouogh ...

Doshusallie · 05/10/2012 14:18

Oh and lunch was a packet of chicken pieces, some cheese, and some raw broccoli and asparagus eaten in the car.

Doshusallie · 05/10/2012 14:19

*easing = reading!

Poppy1234 · 05/10/2012 14:36

Friday is my normal weigh in today so weighed myself and have lost 1lb, absolutely delighted as feel i have been eating so much (it's so counter intuitive) also as really only wanted to loose 7lbs at most I was preparing myself for no loss.

The very best thing is that I am wearing a pair jeans that were on the small side when I bought them (when I was at my target weight) and are now more comfortable then when I was lighter. It's definitely not all down to the scales.

I'm hoping a weekend of no wine (or dark chocolate) will kickstart the weight loss even more.

B: Greek yoghurt with cinnamon
L: Left over chorizo, veg and cheese frittata with salad and some smoked mackerel mixed with cream cheese on cucumber
D: M&S 97% sausages with aubergine and courgette parmigiana

The weekend will be my first challenge as I am so used to being good in the week and bold at the weekend.

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 14:47

Catstail
Really, you have to have another look at BIWI's list of allowed food.

Beans are a total no no. It doesn't matter how little you eat of them, they are going to give you a sugar spike which in turn make you crave carbs.

And I am pretty sure that hot dogs are high in carbs too.

Tbh, I think you are making it harder on yourself because you are cheating, while restricting food. So you are getting the worst of both worlds - you are feeling hungry and restricted and guilty for not sticking to bootcamp.

Today I have eaten:

Two low(ish) carb sausages with two fried eggs (in butter)

Chicken fillet with cheese dip and olives

Tonight I will have frittata with chicken and spinach

I am eating loads, and not feeling hungry.

I have just tried on a dress that I haven't been able to wear for ages, and it is almost fitting me - it is going to be my motivation dress. I about 10lbs on low carb a couple of months ago so it is closer to fitting me than it has been for a long time.

captainmummy · 05/10/2012 14:52

Catstail my Breakfast today was 3-egg omellette fried in butter. Lunch was salad leaves with smoked trout fillet, (treat from Lidls) coleslaw, 2slices ham and a chunk of brie. Also about 50ml Lidl greek yog.
Dinner will be curry (made by dp yesterday) with brocolli, and more yog probably. Quite a lot of food really.

I also have 1 pint water before meals, and black tea and water throughout the day.

Whoever invented Kale crisps deserves a medal! Crisps were a big part of my pre-low-carb diet, and i really miss a drink and a packet of crisps. But I made kale crisps, tossed in garlic and chilli oil the other day - all i need now is some cheese-n-onion flavour powder to sprinkle on top....

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 15:00

Vmum
I think that being honest it the best policy. I would say that you are aware of the issue of nightshifts when your DH is away, but that have already done xyz in preparation - if you can show that you have already looked into several options now, and have a plan in place, then it is much better than 'oh, we will muddle through'.

What about some of the other women on the base (assuming you are on base?) Would there not be someone who would be interested in childminding? It is quite a portable career so I would be surprised if there aren't a few already.

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 15:03

hello Butterflyexperience. Haven't seen you on MN for a while. I am not on as much now though.

cathyandclaire · 05/10/2012 15:04

I echo the kale crisp love! Also if you're feeling a bit bunged up ( so to speak) it's delicious if you sprinkle some linseeds on top before you put them in the oven ( I know they're seeds but I don't think they're too carby) works a treat!

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 15:13

catstail

so just to check (sorry or blithering on this same subject again...) those who seem to be on teeny weeny meals and no snacks, eg greek yog for breakast, or 2 sausage and mushrooms, they have maybe been lo carbing for a while and have a lower appetite?

Possibly. But these are not really teeny tiny meals. The greek yoghurt is full fat and high protein, so it is very satisfying. (It also contains some carbs, so people do have to be careful about this)

There is no way i could exist on such a small amount of food

Nobody is asking you to! I specifically said in my post to you that this WOE is not about restricting quantities. In fact, it's the very reverse. You eat as much as you want, till you're full/not hungry.

b at 8.30am 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 1/4 can baked beans (sorry), cup coffee, cup tea

Please tell me that those sausages were low carb?! And stop eating the beans! There are too many carbs in them, as well as sugar in the sauce.

l at 11.30am 4 hotdog sausages, grated cheese, little onion, cup tea

Did you check the carbs in the sausages?

Where is your veg/salad? This is where your carbs are supposed to be coming from.

oh, no water yet, is that important?

Did you not go back and read the rules that I re-posted yesterday for you? Yes, it's very important!

Please, please, please - if you are serious about losing weight - read the rules! This is not a WOE where you can cheat

captainmummy · 05/10/2012 15:23

Can I also advise another great motivator? I weigh myself in KGs, and I can really see the results. To go from 62-something kg to 61-something kg is a huge pyschological boost, but as it is only 2.2 lbs or less, you get more of them to the Stone, IYSWIM. It's hard to get from 9st-something to 8st-something, and takes so long.

Also people don't know what 62kg is, so they can't judge so easily as if i said 9st10!

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 15:25

Lavendersblue - it's entirely up to you if you stay on Bootcamp or move onto Bootcamp Light. You could do a hybrid - Bootcamp Light at the weekend and Bootcamp during the week.

After two weeks, the rate of loss can slow anyway, and you haven't got that much more to lose, so a hybrid approach could be more beneficial for you.

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 15:26

vnmum - I'm sorry that you're feeling so emotional about this. It's a really difficult decision for you, especially without your DH around (and especially considering where he's going). Is it absolutely essential that you go back to work if it's making life so difficult, and upsetting you so much?
