We've nearly grown out of the last thread here so i started the new one.

We're all doing different things but we're all here to support each other on the journey. We kick each other when we need it and offer sympathy when that's more appropriate.

I would def third that thought. This is the only time in my life that a diet has worked and I am sure it is because I have finally convincing myself I am worth more than an early fat related grave (well that and all the lovely thread buds here!)

If something is undermining your sense of self-worth then it becomes very easy to cave in and say hey live for the moment coz who cares what happens to me in 10 years time....

Of course there's no point asking me how you achieve the right mental state coz I don't know. I just woke up one day and knew that I WAS going to do this and I wasn't going to cave because I WAS worth it

Mathsdidi · 19/11/2012 20:17

tortoise we're all here to help you through it. We've all messed up at some point and I couldn't even tell you how many times I've given up because it feels too hard. The difference between the times I've succeeded for a while and the times I haven't is how I react to messing up. Pick yourself up and start again in the morning.

I would give a thought to johnny's suggestion of recording what you eat. I've usually done much better when I've written everything down.

Mathsdidi · 19/11/2012 20:21

Goon where did you get the crap stampers for secret santa? I have to get a secret santa present and have no ideas what to get. We picked names today and I think the woman i got might see the funny side of rubbish stampers.

Gooniechoons · 19/11/2012 20:49

Oh shit, I hadn't realised that about the losing six pounds from last week!
ich we are both teetering on the precipice of thirteen stone something!!!

maths I think I got them from Hawkins Bazaar, will have a look now.

found it
Not the exact thing but a few choices there! I have the insult button and it is really funny. Dd2 (4) loves it! Hmm Confused

Tortoise · 19/11/2012 23:42

Posted a long message and it's vanished Sad.

I started using MFP last week but didn't take much notice of calories used or left.
I want to be able to eat the same as my DC in the evenings. I've been trying to eat less in the daytime to account for evening meal. I don't want to have to cook separate meals.

I have even considered hypnosis for eating disorders. I eat too much crap, i love crap food but struggle to enjoy healthy food that my DC will eat as well.

Maybe i should go to the doctors for help.

I don't want to go on like this. I'm fat, lazy and don't do half as much with my DC as i used to. Even the dogs haven't had a proper walk for weeks, just let out in the garden. That's no way to treat them.

I want to look and feel better but i don't know where to start anymore. Every time i think i can do it, i fail.

Sorry for bringing thread down Sad

Mathsdidi · 19/11/2012 23:53

Tortoise small steps. Do you walk to school with the dcs? Could you just make a few short walks (pop to the corner shop, take the dogs to the local park, etc) this week, build it up slowly. If you try to do too much too soon you will find it overwhelming and give up. Small changes in lifestyle is the way I'm managing.

You CAN do it, you just need to figure out what the best way is for you. Would you be able to join SW or WW? Would you cope doing the 5:2 fasting (I don't think I would be able to do it)? What about low-carb? There are so many ways of losing weight that it really is a matter of finding the way that will work for you.

Go to the gp for help if you think your gp will be helpful. I know some places are able to give discounts to SW or they have their own weight loss support groups, so it may well be useful. My gp would be utter crap (especially now I'm only overweight rather than obese) as all she says is 'eat less, move more', which everybody knows, it's just being able to do it that's the problem.

Positive thinking. Repeat 5 times ' I CAN lose weight, I WILL be healthy, I WILL NOT give up this time', then carry on repeating it every time you start to wobble.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 00:08

I do walk DDs to school and pick up. It's about a mile to school. Closest shops are near school. Park is slightly closer but still a trek. Its such a long walk to get anywhere from my house. Plus i have got so damn lazy, i can't be bothered!
Some days i spend the day at my Boyfriends house and that means sitting around all day (Well not always! Wink).

I don't drive and the only SW i know of locally is in the evening. And i can't do evenings. Any daytime ones are too far away.

I really don't know if GP would help or not. Might be worth a try though but might give myself until January to see if i can do it or not.

TheHumancatapult · 20/11/2012 05:01

Tortoise

Don't give up

What sort of foods do the dc like ? Could you maybe make your portions smaller of not wanting to cook Differnt foods . I also find not eating after 6pm helps

Can you start like maths said by dropping one thing maybe a bag of crisps or a biscuit . Bit not eating all day then eating with kids may mean do hungry that Yiu end up over eating

And yes excerscise is a dirty word I hate doing it but like the effects and once it's done feel better for it
Rather than looking at how much you want to loose and it can seem overwhelming look and think I like to be a stone less or 7lb . How I started now I look and think hmm I like to see Differnt number at start its more achievable than the long goal

TheHumancatapult · 20/11/2012 05:04

Tiggy

122lbs ? If so how tall are You as that's pretty light

Youcanringmybell · 20/11/2012 07:09

Tortoise - You sound like you are feeling very down on life in general which is never going to help you lose weigth when you are emotional eater. That is why I have struggled without my husband here. Logistically it is the BEST time to lose weight but emotionally - the WORST time.

I think you would be doing the right thing to go and see your GP. Some surgeries have a weight loss clinic so you can weigh in there with a nurse. If you get a lovely nurse you could have good support and help.

Can you walk the dogs to school as well? That way you stop feeling guilty about the dogs..and they get their exercise. If not - this is the one thing you MUST battle to do. That is STAY ACTIVE. If you sit down all day you will never want to walk again. Eat whatever you need to for now but keeping active will keep you emotionally in a better place.

Phone the doctors today. They may or may not help. But you have NOTHING TO LOSE by going. Tell us how you get on Thanks

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 20/11/2012 09:16

Hi tortoise I have the same thing where I don't want to cook differently to the family so I have just made everyone's food healthier and none of them have noticed! So I add lots of vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, peppers are quite low cal) to bulk up bologneses, cottage pies, casseroles etc. when they have carbs (rice, potatoes, pasta) I have much smaller portions. I also freeze chopped vegetables so if I'm tired I can shove them in to a pan easily. Think I've got chopped celery and onions in my freezer at the moment. My family hate celery but will eat it in bolognese.

I have also cut down on sauces, so instead of adding lots of cheese sauce to pasta I'll add a tablespoon and really stir it in and possibly another spoonful. Then I give the girls grated cheese to add (ready grated or I would it eat it while grating) and they don't notice I've been stingy with the sauce, they love adding their own cheese). And if I make dh a curry I add a fraction of the curry paste I used to and have practically no rice (I don't really like it anyway so no hardship).

I also eat lots of omelettes and salad at the moment as they're filling, tuna wraps and thanks to icb I've ordered some nandos rubs to put on meat.

The Internet has so many good recipes, there was that great sausage casserole I did a few weeks ago.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

TheHumancatapult · 20/11/2012 09:42

Also are You drinking enough water as that can leave You tired and headaches

tiggy114 · 20/11/2012 12:41

Does anyone have tips for interesting but filling and low fat cooked breakfasts? Sick of porridge and cereal doesn't fill me for long. Also i can't seem to poach eggs Sad i'm quite happy to cook a small meal on a morning. Any thoughts?

ICBINEG · 20/11/2012 14:15

I have been making meals along the protein, veg, staple lines for the family. I then have a small amount of the protein and veg (maybe adding more protein like having some more prawns or fish sticks (i know but they have few calories and feel like food..)) and none of the staple. I am not low carbing over all as I have a sandwich at lunch but the easiest way to get lots of calories into DD and DH and not me is to skip the staple at dinner.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 20/11/2012 15:58

tiggy the hairy bikers did a nice breakfast for their new book/ tvseries. They fried some berries and added allspice. Then they put them on crumpets with yogurt and honey. I have done my own version where I fry berries in all spice and just add them to yogurt. Not sure I could bring a packet of crumpets into the house, would just eat them all!

Generally I struggle with breakfast as I hate porridge and cereal, so most mornings I have a piece of toast sometimes with a boiled egg if I have time.

Mathsdidi · 20/11/2012 16:13

I'd have scrambled egg on toast or banana on toast some mornings. How about an omelette? Or grilled bacon, eggs, mushrooms, etc.

tiggy114 · 20/11/2012 16:23

Thanks for the ideas. Just programmed in my OH's dads reciepe on mfp and it comes to around 200 cals for a portion. It's delicious comfort food. So i'll share it here:
Mince mash mush
Fry 1 bag of quorn mince, 1onion and 2 carrots (finely chopped). Add a big tin of butter beans towards the end. Cook some potatos and sweet potato really soft then mash. Mix in an oxo veg cube. (if it's soft, you don't need milk and butter to mash) then assemble like shepherds pie. So filling with mash on top. Cook in oven for 20 mins. Delish. Oh and i added a beef oxo in the mince but you don't need to. Yummy yummy Grin

TheHumancatapult · 20/11/2012 18:39

I probably have it easier as have to cook my meals seperate as 3 of my dc on high fat/calorie diets due to some metabolic issues ( ds2 is 6.2 and under 8 stone struggles maintain that despite 4000 calories a day

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 18:54

We normally have basic stuff like
cottage pie
Lasagne
Spag bol
Sausages
Burgers
Kievs
Chicken casserole
Sausage hotpot
Spag carbonara
Macaroni cheese
Chicken and leek pie
Baked bean pie (sausages, onion, beans and cheese topped with mash)
Ham, leek and potato pie (Ham and leek in white sauce topped with mash)
Chicken pasta bake.

I drink lots of water. Nothing but water (other than occasional beer!).

TheHumancatapult · 20/11/2012 19:11

Hmm bakes bean pie can you leave the cheese of a section

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 20:16

Its only a bit of grated cheese, it melts into the beans and adds a cheesy taste. DC all love baked bean pie!

dancinginthemoonlight · 20/11/2012 20:20

Try banana toasties with a smear of peanut butter

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 20:30

Banana on toast or toasties are good. I like them. (Hate peanut butter though!)

tiggy114 · 20/11/2012 20:45

Oh my lord. Bake bean pie sounds yummy!

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 20:52

Tiggy It is! You could use quorn sausages to make it healthier, but, i personally don't like them.
