We've nearly grown out of the last thread here so i started the new one.

We're all doing different things but we're all here to support each other on the journey. We kick each other when we need it and offer sympathy when that's more appropriate.

ICBINEG · 24/10/2012 12:31

I started at the start of sept and have lost an average of 1 kilo/ 2lbs a week since. Hence now 10 kilos/ 22lbs lighter. I play badminton twice a week but not much exercise other than that...although I want to get back into running...which might be possible without totalling my knees now I have lost some weight!

ICBINEG · 24/10/2012 12:32

TheHumancatapult · 24/10/2012 16:24

It has took me a long time to be in control of it and even when get to goal weight I'm going need be ond of those that have to be careful not to overindulge

All those years and all what I needed was thought of seat belt extension

cookieowner · 24/10/2012 17:22

How is it going for everyone this week so far. what are you all having for tea
Im making the sausage oregano and olive casserole i made a few weeks ago it was from bbc food website and is only 260 calories a portion and tastes delicious!
I need to cut back a bit today after Prezzo but wasnt too bad and still had less than i would have done before i started dieting

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 24/10/2012 17:42

Having a good week cookie. Finding it easy to eat healthily and no cravings for crisps or sweet things. Scampi for dinner with a salad. Radishes are my current favourite snack food, so I'll be munching on them too. Your casserole sounds yummy and the sort of thing the kids would eat, think I'll look it up.

FedUpOfRain · 24/10/2012 17:52

cookie that sounds very yummy! I'm have a much better week so far, hopefully it will last till the weekend, think half term might be a bit more difficult!!
emmalouise I started mid Sept and have lost 17 pounds. I'm using MFP (1200 cals a day) and making more of an effort to eat fruit and veg and get up off my bum a little more...

FedUpOfRain · 24/10/2012 18:04

Make that the beginning of sept.

dancinginthemoonlight · 24/10/2012 19:27

i started my weight loss end of April 2011 following the birth of my little boy in Jan 2011. I was 14 1/4- 14 1/2 st at the end of my pregnancy and following birth my weight rested at 13 1/2 st (with lots of cake eating while bf). I lost 1st before joining ww and in mid june when i joined ww my starting weight was 12st 10 1/2. In feb 2012 i was my lightest at 10st 7 1/2 and felt great, however i let things slip when my little boy was ill and put on around a stone.

As of monday i am 11st 1 and hope to be 10st 7.5 by xmas. i'm trying to do it making sensible choices on every day food and having smaller portions..

Its a slow process as i seem to 'settle' around 11st which is annoying as its in between clothes sizes!!!

emonslemons · 24/10/2012 21:16

hi cookie, well this is my first week on a 'diet' if i can call it that!
i have cut out all refined sugars and fatty junk foods. however im not controling my portion sizes as best i could. i do need to get a grip on that. its all been up in the air a bit as dd1 has had vomitting and diarohea (i can spell!).

Plus im still breast feeding dd2 (10 months old) quite regularly she has around 6 - 8 feeds in 24 hours. she also eats three meals a day.

im not even sure if im gona be 'able' to lose weight as with BF dd1 i could not shift anything and i was practically starving myself, once i finished BF and started to have AF's i did lose weight spectacularly fast (9 kg an AF) .

Any positive stories, or advice r.e portions? i never calorie count, there may be many willing to whip my bum over this but i did a module at uni on nutrition and when calculating how many calories needed to maintain my weight at 90kg it was something in the region of 3600 kcals per day! the going advice to induce a weight loss is to cut 500 kcal from your diet per day. so in theory that leaves me with 3100 kcals......? i personally go with the concept a calorie is not a calorie.

emonslemons · 24/10/2012 21:17

thats suposed to read i cant spell!!! LOL!!!

dancinginthemoonlight · 24/10/2012 21:26

i use a dinner plate but only cover the inner circle and dont pile higher than about an inch. i use the proportions 1/2 plate of veg, 1/4 protein (in my case meat) and 1/4 carbs (potato, rice, pasta). its hard at first but has worked in the past for me and means you dont need to weigh and measure..

isthiswhatitfeelslike · 25/10/2012 03:23

Hi everyone, I'm new and looking for a group to join! I joined weight watchers about 6 weeks ago, I weighed 14 stone and am 5'6, obese. My ideal weight is about 10 stone. I'm down to 13 stone now but I have hit plateau point.

I lost half a stone in 1 week because I was having an emotional upheaval and barely ate for 7 days. I think I put my body into starvation mode as the week after I still barely ate but put on 1lb and I've returned to normal ww eating patterns staying within point range and gained 3 lbs over the last 2 weeks.

So I'm very disheartened.

My biggest fall is in the evenings, I want comfort food. I don't eat much from waking up until about 6pm, then I want to eat lots of bread with butter and honey, cheese, ice cream. I know this isn't the ideal way to eat. I do have a very balanced supper every evening - lean meat/protein, at least 2 veg, healthy complex carbs.

I can easily not eat for a day, maybe even 2 out of a week, but then want to go overboard the next day.

Sorry for spilling out my life story! I've been overweight for about 5 years but I'm only 25 and know with persistence I can do this! I live in America, land of the lazy and yes I definitely succumb to driving everywhere and not getting anywhere NEAR enough exercise. I started doing 30 day shred, did it for 6 days then burned out and none since.

Anyone have similar issues / patterns? Or anyone who's been there and can offer advice? I live alone so no outside influences or leftovers from others plates to eat or anything like that.

TheHumancatapult · 25/10/2012 04:09

Is this

Hello and welcome Take look at DDP yoga especially with being in the states . Google Arthur DDP yoga it's effective and lot gentler than the shred

Also try getting in habit of eating more regular may help with evening cravings
I eat more protein than carbs but is specific to my needs

Lemons

Maybe rather try yo diet strictly in your case maybe try making healthier choices but yup when kids are I'll all goes out the window

ICBINEG · 25/10/2012 10:20

isthis I have spent many years doing the crash and pile it on routine...always getting a little heavier over all. This time I have been doing slow and steady and while I can't promise it will last forever it has already lasted 10 times longer than any previous attempt.

The difference is that my head is now in the right place.

God this is going to sound incredibly glib but:

The crashing and piling was happening when I wanted to lose weight because I hated myself the way I was.

This slower actually working dieting has come out of wanting to lose weight so that I will have a better chance of living long enough to see my daughter grow up. Or in other words I am dieting because I like myself enough to not want to die prematurely.

Hating yourself isn't a good motivator for dieting because there is a tendency to slip into thinking there is no point if you are that horrible etc. and then eat biscuits.

Dieting because you are worth it (ack) and you deserve a healthy long life free from weight related illness is working far better as a motivator.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 25/10/2012 10:48

Hi isthis welcome to our little group

It's really hard giving advice because we're all different and different things work or don't work. I've lost about 10lb (just under 13 st now) and aiming for 10.

I'll tell you what's working for me as some it might help.

  1. Every day is a new day, if you had a crap day (or week) just start the next day afresh and don't punish/ hate yourself.
  2. I really want to be fit and healthy torun around after my very activ kids and encourage them to live healthily. Yes, I want to look thin and nice, but like icb said my motivations have changed. So I think I've he'd two Mondays where I haven't lost any weight. It is hard not to be disappointed by that but I look at my myfitnesspal entries and can see I had a pretty healthy week and that's really what I'm aiming for.
  3. I want to change my behaviour in the long term. I have over 30 years (nearly 40) of eating everything on a plate, so i'm not going to change over night.
  4. I think we all find evenings hard, I have been finding projects to stop me snacking (I'm removing wallpaper when kids go to bed at the moment, researching recipes and doing Xmas cards.)

Good luck. And do come back to let off steam. X

Goonatic · 25/10/2012 20:31

Hello gang, welcome isthis I am so pleased, have browsed tonight and have seen a lot of us (me included) have lost about 10lb which is bloody amazing for an online chat site..... A friend at work asked me hw I was losing weight today and I told her, she was impressed that it was only taking a chat here and there to do it.
So I raise my glass (DH s 38th bday!) to youcanringmybell for beginning this life changing thread. And giving her a big kiss too!

Well done everyone, we are doing a brilliant job, let's stick together.
Love you!!!!

Goonatic · 25/10/2012 20:35

Not actual cheese. Metaphorical cheese.

TheHumancatapult · 25/10/2012 20:45

Cheese sobs I forgotten what that is anyone else find themselves thinking of the one thing there looking forward to eating in moderation of course Wink

I miss crusty bread with butter and big a bit of cheese and pickled onions

Goonatic · 25/10/2012 22:19

Fish and chips. Easy! And I still eat cheese, just Leerdammer light!

cookieowner · 25/10/2012 23:21

yes crusty bread and cheese - i miss it !

isthiswhatitfeelslike · 26/10/2012 01:50

I'm eating crusty bread with butter and honey and a wedge of good cheese every day - is this really terrible? To do this I've basically eliminated all chocolate, biscuits, ice cream, and other sweets but to me the bread and cheese is much better as my "dessert".

I've stayed on my ww points so far all week and not used any extra weekly points. I'm also tracking calories through MFP and have been between 1000-1300. Is this similar to what everyone else is roughly having if aiming to lose 1-2lbs per week?

TheHumancatapult · 26/10/2012 09:07

Isthis

I'm on less but that's as I'm in a wheelchair so less active as you ladies use calories eyc just standing up doing chores . On Bright side I never worry about does my bum look big in this anymore

My trouble is I can't eat a small amount I eat a lot mind there's a mustard that I love it's very honey like from WI < must ask friend to send me some more >> it is fan on cheese or cold meats
