Anyone else finding the summer hols fattening?!

FauxFox · 21/08/2012 10:11

I have been overindulging due to summer holidays treats and relaxing. My clothes are too tight. I need to sort it out before buying new jeans etc for winter so am starting MFP today.

I weigh 11st 9 (v.snug size 12) and want to be 10st (size 10/12). That's 23lbs to lose and i'm aiming to get it done in about 10 weeks so that's by halloween! How apt!

If anyone wants to join me in a bit of pre-autumn fat fighting please do Grin

I have eaten truck loads of rubbish over the last few weeks, I dare not weigh myself Blush. I have to buy new work clothes in the next few weeks [sigh], I feel your pain.

blabalalalablabla · 21/08/2012 10:58

Same here - the lack of routine and no working to school combined with days out and picnic lunches with the addition of copious amounts of ice-cream has left me feel plumper than usual.

I'd like to lose 10lbs - restarted mfp last week but really need to get back to doing some exercise too.

Just had breakfast - muesli and fruit, lunch is going to be chicken salad and then dinner is probably fish and new pots.

Am aiming to cut out bread/crisps/biscuits and almond magnums :o

MumPotNoodle · 21/08/2012 11:01

blabal, think lack of routine is my downfall as well. I am aiming to cut out crisps, chocolate and wine SadGrin.

FauxFox · 21/08/2012 11:19

Glad it's not just me! I've enjoyed the hols so much so far but now i'm just fat, anxious and disorganised! I need some structure back in my life!

I'm not sure I can blame the summer holidays, but I've definitely been eating too much cake recently. I joined MFP last week in an attempt to track/be honest about how much I was eating so I'll join you there. I weigh 10st 7 I think, and would also like to be under 10 stone, but sooner than halloween so will be on a similar rate to you.

I miss breastfeeding, I got under 10 stone without even thinking about it last year, but have been gradually gaining since I gave up a few months ago.

FauxFox · 21/08/2012 22:41

I made a good start - branflakes/chicken salad/minestrone soup and a plum so roughly on 1200 recommended by MFP. I'm not going to get much of a chance to do 'proper' exercise until school goes back but i'm going to try for a good start on my diet and also drinking 8 glasses of water a day.

Thank god,i was shocked today when my work trousers were too tight.i feel bloated and uncomfortable. Trying to low carb but find it hard to fill up without a few spuds. I have drunk lots of water too but feel too tired to exercise.

SpringGoddess · 21/08/2012 23:06

Absolutely, no walking to school twice a day. Kids seem to eat constantly, can't exercise at will, dh off and nibbles too and we have eaten out and drank kids of booze.....it's definitely a struggle keeping weight off.

blabalalalablabla · 22/08/2012 07:53

Well done FauxFox - I'm going to try and join you on the drinking water target - I don't think realistically I'm going to be able to fit any exercise in before school starts again but will be with you on making a start on the diet..

Did well yesterday and even turned down a magnum ice-cream and didn't even have a beer with dinner - tempting though it was as it was a lovely evening.

Today has the potential to be a bit tricky - out all day but will see if I can grab a salad somewhere along the way. Have dinner planned already - chickpea and tom stew - v filling. Normally have it with bread to mop up the juices but will avoid today.

Got on the scales today and think I have lost a lb in the last week so am now 10st 9 - woo hoo! I do feel really bloated and lethargic though :(

Chandon · 22/08/2012 08:59

Oh yes.

Too much rose, bbqs and crisps! Have been feeding the kids too much junk too (not rose), we have been happily sharing bags of haribo and choc ices. And my exercise regime has completely gone to pot.

I never put on weight so much as get flabby and have a pot belly now!

I am 12 stone , but have been for years and years, regardless of what I eat (hardwired metabolism or something?) at 6ft this means a healthy eight....in theory.

YET, my belly has expanded, I am defo fat (or "fat"), my 7 year old asked me fondly if I had a pregnant belly... My belly sticks out more than my boobs, this is NOT a good look!

All my jeans are too tight.

Out with crisps and dips, out with too much wine, out with chips with every meal, out with takeaways, and in with the vegetables, rice and leaner meats! lentils. brown bread.

I'm in. sort off. Will try.

FauxFox · 22/08/2012 20:26

Exactly chandon! wine/crisps/chips/icecream - gah! too lovely but too fat-making!

Another good food day - yoghurt, nuts &plum/stirfry/nectarine/olives and red wine Blush

Calories are fine and yes olives and wine for dinner is not ideal but it is fun!

blabalalalablabla · 22/08/2012 20:41

Checking in here - today hasn't been too bad.

berries and yoghurt/egg sandwich (but on doorstep granary bread)/pasta and tom sauce.
Had a massive dip in the afternoon and scoffed a chocolate brownie when I got back - I'm wondering if it was the granary bread which knocked me as I haven't eaten any bread for about a week - have also squeezed in a vodka.

I'm feeling a bit pmt-ish so am off to eat ice-cream - purely for medicinal reasons of course :o

Olives and wine sounds like an entirely suitable dinner!

2kidsintow · 22/08/2012 21:08

I'm in for the Autumn trim-down. I started mfp at the start of the hols though, as I knew I'd not only stay fat (was 12.9) but get fatter if I packed unhealthy packed lunches and gave in to snacking and eating out with the kids.

I've managed to get down to 12.3 during the hols so far. I've dabbled with the Horizon 5:2 thing, but mostly just stuck to my 1200 plus exercise cals on MFP. I've found it quite easy and have cut out snacking. It has also saved a lot of money as I've not eaten out as much as we would otherwise have done.

Today we went to the cinema and I didn't have any sweets or treats. Not even the little something I'd packed. I felt very virtuous. Grin

I want to lose another stone. I need to be 11.3 to be at the top of my BMI, so I've got a while to go yet.

Hopefully it will be as easy once I am back having the routine of packed lunches at work as well as being on my feet all day, so my general activity level will be higher.

FauxFox · 23/08/2012 07:04

I salute you for your pre-emptive strike 2kids probably much more sensible than the yo-yo I have become!

I am naughtily weighing every day and it looks like i'll be able to drop quite a few lbs quickly (water weight due to terrible eating Blush) and i'm hopeful to be 11st some time next week giving me a basic 1st of actual flab to lose in a month - doable, no?

OP posts:
2kidsintow · 23/08/2012 11:12

I read somewhere that daily weighing is not all that bad, as long as it doesn't de-motivate you if you don't get the result you want. In fact, when you aren't dieting but just maintaining it is seen as a good thing to nip any weight gain in the bud as soon as you notice it. Anyway, I hop on the scales most mornings and won't change that.

I'd love to be 11-something by the time school goes back in, but it isn't reachable for me I don't think. I can lose 3lb in the first week or 2, but not the 6th week.

2kidsintow · 23/08/2012 11:13

1stone in a month? That's about 3.5lb a week? Every week. I can't manage that without being really extreme. I can manage a lb or 2 every week, but not that many.

Chandon · 23/08/2012 12:17

I had two healthy days, which helped a bit with the bloated tum. I have had brown bread, boiled egg, lots of veg and some new pots, only 1 sausage (instead of 3) etc.

Still, yesterday evening I had fish and chips... Shock

On the plus side, we shared one portion of fish and one portion of chips, so I had half of what I'd normally have, so....still an improvement....?

Doing fine today, so far...

tummy defo deflating a bit already (who am I kidding)

FauxFox · 23/08/2012 12:26

Doh I meant a stone in 2 months 2kids (by end Oct) so that's less than 2lb a week isn't it - much more realistic!

Well done Chandon Smile

OP posts:
wem · 23/08/2012 14:08

Chandon - having half the portion is a good way forward I think. I've been pretty strict with myself the last week using MFP, but on Saturday night DH and I were knackered and the lazy only option was to have a Dominos pizza. I decided it was ok as long as I stuck to 3 slices rather than finish off half the pizza. It was hard! But definitely worth it as for once I didn't feel stuffed and a bit ill afterwards... :)

2kidsintow · 23/08/2012 14:20

Faux, a stone in 2 months is very doable. It's what I'd love to achieve too. My DD2s birthday is on Oct 1st and I aim to be slim and trim by then. Grin

Chandon · 23/08/2012 17:14

yes wem, it is nice to not feel too full, overdoing it is a horrible feeling.

Tonight it is past with home made roast pepper and tomato sauce. That is not too bad....I hope.

Don't know how some of you (Fauxfox) survive on 1200 cals a day though! I'd keel over

wem · 23/08/2012 18:19

I told MFP I was 'lightly active' so it gave me 1350 calories a day, and even on that I feel pretty weak in the mornings before I've had breakfast. Doesn't feel exactly healthy. Wish I had the time/money to take regular exercise instead.

FauxFox · 23/08/2012 19:36

I'm not finding 1200 undoable tbh, I had yog fruit and nuts for breakfast, 3 x ryvita with cream cheese and salad for lunch, an apple and dinner will be baked pepper stuffed with anchovy garlic and tomato, green salad and grilled tuna steak. And I have enough for a glass and a half of white wine too Grin

I have tried low carbing and find that harder - I prefer no 'banned' food so I can eat choc/drink wine etc as long as I count it in.

OP posts:
2kidsintow · 23/08/2012 22:04

I've kept to 1200 and managed ok. But it does make me make sure I always get some exercise in - and then I have a few more cals to play with.

When I'm back at work I'm going to reset my goal. Then it will give me 1300 cals and I'll see how I get on with that level. I'm on my feet a lot more at work (I don't get to sit down much at work) so should generally be burning more cals. And of course the lie ins will be history!

maddiemostmerry · 23/08/2012 22:08

I blame the olympics. I ate non stop watching fit peopleShock.

Hoping that | will work it off when back in the school routine.
