Maybe say eat regular meals rather than three meals?

Afternoon all Smile

BIWI regarding the rules... I do think 3 meals a day where possible, and if you dont have time for breakfast then eat something, however small!
Regarding facebook: i am a facebook nerd :/ however i also have posted quite sensitive posts on MN in the past so would prefer to keep it all on here if possible!

I do love our chat threads Grin

Slightly off topic our dining room ceiling has been leaking today as DP decided to try and fix the bath by himself and sprung a leak over night :/

So meals have been off today.. Were taking the boys out tonight after tea so that'll be fun! No candyfloss for me tho lol x

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:04

THERE WILL BE NO FACEBOOK PAGE!

Just to make sure you all heard Grin

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:05

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

I don't think this one should be negotiable, especially during Bootcamp.

Agree/disagree?

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:06

3.Eat lots of fat.
Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

Equally key, and I don't think it should change. I do, though, think I will write a piece about why it's important.

emmak86 · 27/08/2012 15:13

BIWI gotcha loud and clear lol

  1. Agree!!
X
BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:26

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

Again, I don't plan to change this, unless anyone else has anything they want to add

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:27

5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited).
It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

Again, no plan to change this. However, I'm wondering if this is actually worth including as a rule? It's more of an observation/piece of guidance

SwitchedtoEatingCheese · 27/08/2012 15:31

I'm slinking back to this thread as I have fallen by the wayside a little, not too badly but I've certainly not lost any weight for the last 6 weeks or so at least.

But I can honestly say that when I eat carbs if feel bloated and unhappy and when I'm following bootcamp plus wine I feel better, look better and sleep better.

BIWI rules 2 and 3 are good!

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:32

And now for the controversial one Grin:

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

I think this has to be posted with the caveat re electrolyte balance. I've also been trying to find something to back up the table about how much water people should be drinking - this one:

Water

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be

Weight-----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

I took this from the Carblife website, but there isn't a source quoted, and I haven't been able to track one down yet.

However, I have found this 'hydration calculator' - this says that I should be drinking 2.6 litres of water per day, which is just a little bit more than the chart above:

Hydration Calculator

SwitchedtoEatingCheese · 27/08/2012 15:33

BIWI I've always been wondering about the diary, how much cheese is ok? I guess its different for different people but is everyone else eating a piddley wee amount, aka weightwatchers or a nice big chunk ?

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:38

I thought it was interesting that the first question on that calculator was to ask how much you weigh, which would suggest that there is some support for the Carblife table. And I have just come across this, from the WebMD site:

"How Much Water Do You Need?

How can you know if you?re getting enough water to keep your metabolism cranking at peak efficiency and your digestive system functioning? The formula used to be ?one size fits all? -- eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. But that?s changed, experts say.

?It depends on your size and weight, and also on your activity level and where you live,? Nessler says. ?In general, you should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day.?

The difficulty I have is in converting ounces of water into litres!

BIWI · 27/08/2012 15:43

I think it's probably a personal thing in terms of how much you can tolerate - which is why I'm wondering if it should be a rule or not.

Atkins says you're allowed 3-4oz cheese daily on induction, which would equate most closely to Bootcamp. Dr Charles Clark, though, says you can eat it without restriction. The Idiot Proof Diet makes no comment about restricting quantities.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 27/08/2012 15:49

Interesting quiz! Mine said I should be drinking 3 litres a day, but as some comes from food that means 2.4l of actual water.

On the dairy thing, I eat a LOT of dairy. I keep eating Baby Bels pretty much every time I pass the fridge, or if there aren't any then a chunk of normal cheese. I usually have Total yoghurt for breakfast, we eat a lot of cream-based sauces or have cream on berries/in coffee and I drink full-fat milk in tea (only 2/3 cups a day, but I like a lot of milk in my tea so it does add up to quite a lot). So far it hasn't impeded my weight loss, thank God - don't know how I'd cope with a dairy-free diet!

Lorelilee · 27/08/2012 15:59

Welcome back BIWI, glad you had a good holiday.

Just want to say that I've been doing this for 8 weeks now (with one week holiday in the middle) and have lost 12lb :).

With regards to the rules, I think it's a great idea to explain WHY you need to eat fat - this is the major part that goes against most other dietry grains and, I found the most difficult to come to terms with eating 'freely' after years of try to steer clear.

Thegoddessblossom · 27/08/2012 16:32

Good evening from our last night in sunny Crete. Is it bad form to say I am quite looking forward to not sweating a bucket every time I move and being able to wear my hair down? Yes thought so....

Think I have probably gained about 4 or 5 pounds at least purely from the nuts beer and sugary drinks. Will be interesting to see. Not worried as will be straight back to bootcamp having lost 5 pounds in the 2 weeks prior to hols.

Agree with all rules so far BIWI.

Have read 5 books this holiday including the 50 shades of shite trilogy....jeez, I should write some books and become a trillionaire, how hard can it be?

NigellasGuest · 27/08/2012 16:47

Rule 3: for the benefit of new people and critics perhaps here it could be mentioned that trans fats / hydrogenated fats are in fact V.V.Bad. It's natural, animal fat that's good.

regarding water: I think that this is a very personal thing. True, most people don't drink enough water. But I don't think you can prescribe amounts according to how much weight you want to lose. I think that you should go by the colour of your wee. Again, that's all part of the "listening to your own body" approach that I have got into. For Bootcamp, perhaps say 2 - 3 litres. BTW, how could anyone possibly drink 6 litres? That must be dangerous.

NigellasGuest · 27/08/2012 16:50

TooImmature - I'm the same with the dairy! I'm losing still, despite knocking back sizeable quantities of double cream every day. It's not so much cheese that I love, but Cream, crream and more cream (with quite a bit of FF Total thrown in - sometimes in the same bowl Blush). But of course, lots of people probably wouldnt tolerate that amount of dairy... everyone's different hey. That's the beauty of this WOE - I am really really beginning to understand my body a little bit.

halfthesize · 27/08/2012 16:59

Evening all, gosh I've missed loads..

So glad we are going to keep 2 rolling threads on MN and all the rules seem great. BIWIThanks for all your wonderful organising, what would we do without youSmile

BIWI · 27/08/2012 17:02

I agree with you Nigella - it's very frustrating not being able to find out why people link weight with the amount of water you should drink! I'm sure there's an explanation, just wish someone would give it!

Also agree with you re fat. I'll work on drafting something and see what you all think.

halfthesize - it keeps me off the streets ... Grin

NigellasGuest · 27/08/2012 17:07

I'm having visions of BIWI on the streets, with her loud hailer and stick! Grin

BIWI · 27/08/2012 17:09

A bit like the child catcher?! Grin

NigellasGuest · 27/08/2012 17:49

yes.. the Carb Catcher, Grinrounding up all those terrible chocolate and crisp eaters and galloping off into the night with them locked in the CarbCage....Shock Grin

AuntieMaggie · 27/08/2012 18:24

I think to relieve water retention and to stop your body holding onto water you need to drink plenty? Something like that...

Well good day... went to harvester and ate a mountain of chicken and salad, minus the side and bread roll. I did slip up and put croutons on my salad but I didn't eat them - I picked them out and gave them to dp which isn't easy as I have a layering system I use so the croutons are mixed into the salad!!!

I only seem to manage 2 meals at the weekends because I get up late.

Oh and as of this morning I have lost 6kg in 2 weeks :o only another 30 to go :(

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/08/2012 18:49

I think maybe with the water go with the 'drink enough you wee is a very pale yellow' that's what I do. I think it must be different on different days depending on what you are eating, how much exercise you have done, how hot you are etc... Which is probably why you can't find a definitive amount per person per weight I'd that makes sense?

Fat - deffo keep rule and agree say natural data best.

Dairy - maybe just say it can impede loss in some people and to be aware of that? For me cheese, cream and Greek yoghurt don't slow me but milk does..
