questions about the cambridge diet

does anybody know that big difference between the cambridge diet and lighter life?

How do you meet the councillors at the cambridge? Is it the same sort of group situation as lighter life?
thanks

I've been on the Cambridge diet for 3 weeks now and have lost around 20lb's.From what I gather(although I may be wrong!),it's virtually the same as Lighterlife, but half the price and no counselling as such.I go each week to be weighed and to get my food packs, and obviously if I have any issues etc...I mention them to the "counsellor" where I go,but there is no counselling session. This is also probably the easiest diet I've ever been on,as I haven't got to think about food at all.I am also never and even find it a struggle to have my 3 things a day,sometimesGrin.HTH.

Bubbaloo · 11/03/2006 23:27

Never hungry,that's meant to beBlush.

misdee · 12/03/2006 00:05

cambridge diet doesnt need a docs note if you are not doing sole source.

Norah · 12/03/2006 08:43

Doesn't need a doctor's note for sole source unless you have a medical condition or are on certain meds !

It is alleged that Cambridge and Lighterlife are made by same manufacturer !

As someone said - main differenec is cost (£31.50 vs £67.50 per week) and with Cambridge no counselling - although ime Lighter Life counselling is rubbish anyway - they are not qualified counsellors - just rained by Lighter Life to trot out a load of trite nonsense.

Cambridge also do ready made milkshakes which are brill if you need to be on move or at work - saves the faff of having to have a blender with you.

Oh and - Cambridge only ask you to drink 2 litres of water a day - Lighter Life is 4 litres and that is hard to get down !

misdee · 12/03/2006 08:45

you need doc note for sole surce if your BMI is high.

Bubbaloo · 12/03/2006 11:35

I'm on sole source, have a very high BMI and didn't need a doctor's note.Like Norah says,if you have any medical conditions, you will need one.

emily05 · 13/03/2006 08:17

Thanks for the info all of you. Really useful.

Was all ready to do lighter life - but am a bit dubious about their 'counselling'. The cambridge diet is so much cheaper. I could do the diet and pay for a proper counsellor and it would still be cheaper than lighter life.
(well done for the weight loss bubbaloo - that is great)

what do you mean food packs? do they provide you with food for a week?

20lbs in 3 weeks is a great loss can you share any tips with us?

laughinglil · 13/03/2006 10:09

well done bubbaloo you'll be at target in no time! I have about half a stone still to go. I am on my 10th week and have lost just over 3 stone. .. it is 3 meal replacements and 4 for men or women over 5 foot 8.
If you do find a good councellor like mine they will talk you through anything you need to talk about. I feel absolutly fantastic on this diet the best i have felt for a long time. It really is worth it

joelalie · 13/03/2006 13:08

Hi,

sorry to butt in but is it true that you aren't accepted onto the plan unless you have a reasonable amount to lose? ie if you have a lowish BMI, about 21/22? I have a good friend who has been on a permanent diet for about 2 years and has lost loads but is now stuck ....she has a BMI of 21.9. She reckons that the Cambridge diet would help her drop a load more but my knowledge of it (not much I admit) is that it's quite extreme and wouldn't really suit someone in her position.

Is that the case?

TIA

Kate

Norah · 13/03/2006 13:23

No - anyone can do Cambridge - it's Lighter Life that says you must have 3 stone to lose - I think BMI must be over 30 for LL - but Cambrisge is for anyone.

A skinny friend of mine does a week of Cambridge every 3 months to lose 7 - 10lbs !

It is extreme - but easy and quick !

me23 · 13/03/2006 13:42

is the cambridge diet suitable for veggies? what does the food packs taste like?

jambuttie · 13/03/2006 16:58

need more info on this too, i need to loose 11lb to have my breast reduction but a further 2-3 stone on top of that

Bubbaloo · 13/03/2006 19:42

Hi Laughinlil-Glad to "see" you're still doing the diet-well done!
I have tried just about every diet going,in the past and can honestly say this is by far the easiest and I am not hungry on it at all.The weight is literally falling off me and I've never felt so good.I really thought I'd be quite tired doing such a low cal diet, but if anything it's given me more energyGrin.
I find the food packs ok and infact, most taste quite nice.I don't have the milkshakes anymore as I much prefer the soups. The chocolate bars are really yummy too,and nice a big,so last a whileGrin.I would definately reccommend it,but it's not for everyone as it is a bit drastic, but if I had a BMI of 21 I don't think I would even need to diet-my BMI is nearly double thatShock.

Norah · 13/03/2006 20:04

Their website is this www.cambridge-diet.com/ - sorry I can't do links and no time to look it up now !

The packs taste fine - not a gourmet experience of course but they are fine !

After about 2-3 days your body has used up all your glycogen stores so you go into ketosis - and you feel fabulous then - the first few days can be hard, carbs withdrawal, headaches, nausea etc - but get through that and you will feel great - skin and hair will look good, you will have loads more energy and the best thing is you really really don't feel hungry at all ! Lots of people feel a need to cook for other people and then virtuosly have a food pack ! Seriously !!!

It is quite the easiest way to lose weight !

jambuttie · 13/03/2006 20:10

is it really expensive though?

Norah · 13/03/2006 20:18

It's £31.50 a week - which is less than half what Lighter Life has just gone up to (£67.50)- but remember this is ALL your food for a week - and you can't have alcohol so you might save a few squid on that too !!

Some people look on it as an investment in their future !

sanchpanch · 13/03/2006 21:31

could you not just do 3 slimfasts a day?
or are they different kinds of meal replacements, i would be intrested in this having lost 4 stone and got 2.5 more to go, i am really stuck and havent lost anything since xmas...

Any info appreciated

Norah · 13/03/2006 21:35

No - slimfast isn't intended to be sole source - you wouldn't be getting enough of your rda's. Cambridge and LL contain exactly what you need in total. Not sure slimfast would be a lot cheaper - the Cambridge packs are £1.50 each - last time I bought slimfast it was 99p on special offer - so normal price must be £1.20 or so ?

sanchpanch · 13/03/2006 21:44

yeah i suppose so... and its harder on your own to maintain,

norah.. are you on this plan,

I have just emailed local counseller, hopefully they will get back to me soon, how long is it likely till i will be able to start, do you have to wait till they start a new batch of people like on LL?

laughinglil · 13/03/2006 21:47

you have to have a least a stone to lost to do the soul source.. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone with less than that to lose.. I am nearly starting maintence got another 7lbs to go to get me to 9 stone 10. I will then probably lose another on maintence.. saying that I might be too skinny then as I am 5 ft 6.. it is a fab diet and I feel great... I bought a size 10 skirt today for the first time ever and it fits! I would recommend it to anyone as it is great if you stick to it by the book.. the weight falls off so quick but you have to be careful not to pile it back on again.
This diet really does take a lot of determination especially in the first week but it is really worth it.

Norah · 13/03/2006 21:47

I am supposed to be on it -BUT have been feeling slightly ill (fluey) for couple of weeks - so keep delaying start ! Did LL before Xmas and lost quite a lot ! Will prob start Canbridge next week.

No there are no groups like LL - all individual - so it will just depend on efficiency of your local counsellor.

Good Luck

laughinglil · 13/03/2006 21:48

I rang my councellor on the thursday morning saw her the thursday afternoon and started friday it really is quick .... unless there are medical issues where you will need your gp to sign a form .

sanchpanch · 13/03/2006 21:54

Thanks for that,

Laughinglil well done on your weight loss, how much have you lost in total,

How often do you meet your councillor? do you go to there house?

sorry for questions..

Think i will write down number aswell and phone from work in morning

laughinglil · 13/03/2006 22:00
