Happy New Year all. Look forward to your report Threesteps :)

CHST · 02/01/2013 15:12

happy new year all. back from in laws and ate so much and no exercise but haven't put on weight. think it shows that it is not good to underfuel your body. i am going to look in depth at nutrition this year.
i have unfortunately picked up a bitch of a cold in my head and on my chest. did br workout 1 modified and found it tough so will probably back off till i am feeling better. was looking forward to starting p90x but will wait till i can face it.

gindrinker · 02/01/2013 20:47

Hi all. I've just completed day one!
Phew! Wasn't as bad as I thought, should be easy enough to get through level 1... 2 and three might be a different matter though?

BettySuarez · 02/01/2013 20:56

Waiting for my copy to arrive too.

Massive respect to those of you who have ordered the 'collection'

Sounds bloody scary Grin

MissTFied · 02/01/2013 21:27

Hi all,

Pleased to report only one day off Jillian over Xmas, on the day itself. Been reading your posts still.

Threestepsforward - I did Shed and Shred today for the first time. I was really excited, but ended up rather disappointed actually. I did level one, then moved on to level two, but didn't finish it. Not because it was too challenging, but because it was too bitty and didn't seem to flow. I also though it dragged and couldn't imagine doing it daily. I actually missed doing 6w6p and was a bit miffed at having wasted a day on Shed and Shred. Anyone else found this?

Going to do Ripped in 30 tomorrow instead as I bought the box set.

threestepsforward · 03/01/2013 09:13

Morning all!

Welcome back CHST Smile Take it easy until you're feeling better, what was it a wise notyummy person said? Below the neck best not to exercise? I think that's right! Hope you get well soon...

Grr still no Shed and Shred so I haven't done it yet. MissT thanks for your feedback, what a shame Sad I always try and watch through before I do a DVD for the first time so that may help. i have all my other JM favourites to fall back on though if it doesn't work out though.

So, I will be Shredding or Ripping if my new DVD doesn't arrive today...

Welcome to BettyS and Gindrinker! Well done on getting started Gin, I think L2 is the hardest of the 3 Shred levels but I certainly struggled the first time I did L1 so you're doing great Smile

Have a good day everyone

A-ha! My DVD arrived so have watched both levels through 'while working'. There's quite a combo of styles in it - some yoga, kick boxing, jujitsu (sp?) etc., but not all that much cardio from what I could see. The proof of the pudding as they say...

I notice she's got some moves that are in Turbofire... capoeira, speedbags ... Do you think all the instructors sit watching the other instructors' DVDs to see what they can borrow lol?

Back to specialist this afternoon with dog who has sadly gone downhill again so will start Shed and Shred this evening if I have the inclination. His illness has knocked the stuffing out of me - 2 months now of pills every hour, horrendous tummy problems and a sad dog Sad. I'll keep trying with him until we've explored all options and/or I'm bankrupt and living in a box with him!

Will post again after I've Shedded and Shredded (S&S as an abbreviation?)

see you later

hi all can I join in here? I bought JM 4 dvd collection so have 30 day shread, 6week 6 pack, and 2 others with the 6 minute exercises on them (i cant remember what they are called!)

I'm starting with 6w6p and its day 2 and I'm in pain! my abs and legs ache, I can barely move! please tell me it gets better! I'm going to do tomorrow then have the weekend off. I'm so looking forward to it, I could barely get through this morning. I just need to know it gets better!

Bakingnovice · 03/01/2013 13:03

Hello all. I've namechanged but started shred and other jm DVDs in sept. felt amazing. Really thrown off track since mid December due to horrible norovirus. Too scared to restart shreds its been a good three weeks off now. But sadly am also looking forward to the initial burn. I can't start till kids ate back at school next week. Ive only gained two pounds in dec but feel floppier and fatter. I really need my jm fix. Next week I'm back on everything: diet, shred, walking again, cleaning routine, healthier meals and getting my new steam cleaner out again. Please help motivate me!!

Well done to all those who kept going through December. You bitches!

gingercat12 · 03/01/2013 15:31

Back home. After exercises throughout December I can report putting no weight on. A bitch here Grin In fact it is my AF, so I probably lost a little. My first weigh-in was 14th Jan last year, so soon see the difference.
I find new starters motivate me. Starting is the hardest bit, it gets so much easier.
Hope everyone gets better.

threestepsforward · 03/01/2013 18:31

Hello again,
Happy New Year gingercat, good to see you back :) Great news on the non-weight gain over xmas, I definitely can't say the same!!

Welcome addicted and baking. Stick with us for motivation! Addicted, feelings of pain are completely normal starting out!! Try and stick with it and you'll be good again in 3 or 4 days...

My poor dog is at the clinic overnight having a transfusion, things do not look good at all :( I love the bugger so much, he's been my pal and at my side for a decade and I can't imagine him not being around, please cross your fingers for him x

In a bid to keep my mind occupied, I attempted L1 of Shed and Shred this evening. Wasn't half bad, didn't feel too difficult, but I will wait and see what aches tomorrow! I couldn't muster up the enthusiasm for L2 back to back but I may try that tomorrow depending on what happens...

Hope everyone is doing well and feeling motivated at the start of 2013 :)

threesteps Sad for your dog

Rollergirl1 · 03/01/2013 20:23

Hi there, i'm a newbie poster to this thread but have been lurking for a while...

Have been doing a mixture of 30day shred and Ripped in 30 on and off for the last year. Also have sometimes simultaneously run and swim as well (not since the summer with the running). Finished doing 4 weeks of RI30 around 5 times a week just before christmas. I've had the last 2 weeks off!

I've just ordered the Jillian Michaels Collection. I already have the shred but the others are new to me. What would you suggest I try first out of NMTZ, BFBM or 6W6P? Bearing in mind I'm used to L4 of Ripped?

Rollergirl1 · 03/01/2013 20:36

Sorry have properly read the thread now.

Threestep, sorry to hear about your dog. Hope he pulls through.

threestepsforward · 03/01/2013 21:22

Aw, thanks for the good wishes. I will let you know how he's doing tomorrow...

Hello Rollergirl :)
Welcome to the thread!

BFBM is good if you want a cardio burn - it's pure cardio. I've been doing JM stuff for ages now, although slacking a bit recently, and still find this a challenge.

NMTZ is purely strength, and targets all over, and is definitely challenging - (actually they're all a challenge!) This would be the one to go for if you're not so fussed about cardio and would prefer to tone and build lean muscle all over.

6W6P - L1 of this is not too bad, L2 is universally acknowledged to be a horror! It's very fast the second time round and some of the moves are quite tough. You will definitely feel fully worked out after L2!

You'll certainly be able to do any of them if you were doing L4 Ripped so the decision... is yours! depending on what you fancy focusing on...let us know what you go for :)

OP posts:
threestepsforward · 03/01/2013 21:25

Oops, forgot to add that they're all a bit longer than Ripped, can't remember exactly how much though...
But, with BFBM and NMTZ you can opt to do fewer circuits and so cut down the overall time if time's a problem...

MissTFied · 03/01/2013 21:37

Three steps - sorry to hear your dog is so sick. I hope he gets better. Good for you for doing S&S too. I find Jillian certainly takes your mind off of things. So you found it not too bad then? I'm sure when I attempt it next I will find I love it. I'm quite contrary!

I find I ache now, so I feel good about that! Not sure if it is from S&S yesterday or from doing RI30 this am with L2 of 6w6p.

I enjoyed RI30 but still love 6w6p. This is my fave so far. Roller girl - not sure which to recommend as I am new to RI30, so don't yet know what torture awaits me. I also enjoyed BFBM. It really made me sweat. They are all good in their own ways, but I found 6w6p a good challenge. I like the fast pace of it.

Addicted - you are starting with 6w6p? You go girl! No wonder you ache, but it is good, no?!

Rollergirl1 · 03/01/2013 22:45

Thanks for the low-down. I'm a bit torn. I am also trying to lose a little weight and am low-carbing at the the moment. So think BFBM will definitely help with losing weight.

But I have to admit that I do like doing strength a lot (as well as cardio). I actually felt a little short-changed by the abs sections in Ripped Level 4 so cant imagine not doing any at all.

So with that in mind I think I might try NMTZ first. I do like the 30 mins format of Shred and Ripped but I work from home so am sure the extra 10 mins won't be a problem.

addictedismoving · 04/01/2013 08:22

I hope your dog is better soon three.

I had no idea 6w6p had that reputation! I was juat thinking it was a goal to aim for and help me tone my tummy. I haven't yet had a go this morning, although dh did it.without me and claims to be dying! I'll start at 9am I think.

Good luck roller girl

And yes to whoever asked, the pain is good and in a completely sadistic way, I'm really looking forward to today!

threestepsforward · 04/01/2013 17:02

Afternoon all...

Thank you for all the good wishes for my dog :) He's back home and the transfusion was a success. The trouble is that the underlying problem is still there but the transfusion at least buys us some more time to sort it, what a nightmare!

To celebrate the good news, I did L2 S&S. MissT I found level 1 okay, but it was just a bit, um, bitty, was it you who said the same?

I am v impressed at you doing a level of Ripped followed by L2 6W6P, wow!!

I found L2 S&S much harder than L1, but I do think I am a lightweight! Lots of strength stuff and I felt pretty knackered by the end. No way in the world could I do the 2 levels together at this point. Interestingly, L2 seems to lead you to doing full push-ups which I never usually do (normally do them on my knees), so that was a good challenge.

Will see if I can psyche myself up to do the 2 levels together this weekend at some point...

Hope everyone has had a good day, will no doubt check in over the weekend...

A newbie to Shredding here - just done 2 days of Level 1 Shred and I feel fantastic.

I LOVE Jillian Michaels!!!!!!

McPie · 04/01/2013 17:49

Glad your dog is a bit better now Three.
Expected classes to start back yesterday but in contradiction to their signs, online information and the instructor I know who does classes their they dont start until monday!
I decided Jillian would be my saviour and done BFBM yesterday and felt aches in my arms and legs last night and today I done NMTZ which I really felt in my abs and arms at the time so expect lifting the wine glass tomorrow night may be interesting.
Its amazing how much easier it was to do when Im not pulling around an extra 2 1/2 stone. Still have around another 3 stone to go but I am not so hung up on weight as I know I have built up quite a bit of muscle since I started the classes mid September.
I think I will try and add both the dvds into my week on days I dont have much class wise going on as I really enjoyed doing them and they are not much different from what Im doing in some of the classes.

MissTFied · 05/01/2013 00:36

Hello all,

Hope you are all aching nicely!

Three steps - pleased to hear your dog made it through the transfusion.

Yes I said S&S was bitty, glad I'm not the only one. I worried for a minute there that I may possibly be going off Jillian, but then RI30 is ok so all faith restored! I may save S&S as something to be conquered at a later date.

Diabolo - Jillian is just great isn't she? My young children mention her like she is one of the family (although she sometimes gets called Julian too). I know we have to put in the effort if we want to get results, but I just think there's some kind of magic going on that is transforming me! I can't believe she isn't better known in this country.

Suppose I best think about bed. Goodnight!

addictedismoving · 05/01/2013 08:23

morning all, I could do with a huge kick up the backside! I only managed to do the warm up yesterday as I was hurting so much I thought it would be more benificial to have a rest day than push my body too far (underlying medical condition worsens with stress, which there is lots of atm, so I know that was the right decision)

So got up do level 1 of 6w6p got through the warm up and a couple of exercises, could barely breathe so stopped to take an inhaler, have a drink, changed a few nappies and now I'm sat on mumsnet with cbeebies on the tv. thinking, I'll just start again o n monday.

I need to do today or I wont do monday (tomorrow planned rest day) please someone get tpough and tell me to get off my backside and exercise, it will do me good, help my medical condition and help me loose this flabby tummy that having 2 children in 2 years has created.

its a stupid vicious cycle, the cfs (even tho is is mostly under controll atm) makes me shattered, good vigorous exercise helps but I just dont have the energy to start.

right now I've complained and moned I will start (right after mike the night finishes, there would be hell to pay if I did it before then. and the baby needs feeding and a nap, so right after that.
