I have doing couch to 5k and pilates. Have started shred before and am tempted to do it again. Well now DS is going to be in full time school I could do it when DD is napping.

I don't think I could do it everyday though. Otherwise I would be trying to fit too much in. I also work. Has anyone done it on a part time basis?

HalleLouja · 15/09/2012 08:12

What is the difference between all the dvds?

notyummy · 15/09/2012 10:16

Halle- if you look back a few pages I have done a summary of all the DVDs.

Shred would work part time up to a point. If you are also running/pilates then prob 3 shreds a week would work. If you are only doing shred I would say realistically 4/5 shreds a week would be needed to see visible results in a few weeks.

I am still struggling a bit with sore calf and am pissed off!! It felt better so I put new trainers on and did just a 3 mile route yesterday to be on the safe side. It got really sore by about halfway through do I had to stretch it off and walk for a while. Hadn't broken a sweat by the time I got home so I joined in with DH who was doing L4 Ripped. Didn't do it all because of time constraints, but did first 2 circuits. I can do most things other than running so at least that is something. Did one of the 'easy' Insanity work outs on Thursday and DH and I are planning NMTZ for later this morning.

Keep it up all!

ILoveLemonCurd · 15/09/2012 11:01

Notyummy you're going to hate me for saying this, but you must rest that calf. I had a similar problem with my quad and I kept running on it and surprisingly it got worse. So I rested for three weeks. Well three weeks of no running at all, then I did a week of cycling and shredding/NMTZing but didn't do any jumping about and two weeks total rest. And now it's fine (touching every available bit of wood).

I know it's frustrating but it has to be done. You could swim instead. Your fitness will return in no time Smile

MegBusset · 15/09/2012 12:10

HalleLouja I am a 'part-time' Shredder as I am mixing it with couch25k so doing each 3x a week. I don't expect ever to have a body like JM! But find it still helps with toning and calorie-burning.

gingercat12 · 16/09/2012 19:17

I looked into couch to 5K, and it looks fab. Thanks for explaining it to me.

HalleLouja · 16/09/2012 20:06

Couch to 5k is fab. I did the first run of week 5 today. Now I just need to dig out / buy a new shredding dvd. I might try a different one.

ILoveLemonCurd · 16/09/2012 20:08

Well I tried level 2 of Ripped today, straight after level 1.

I now officially hate strongly dislike Ms Michaels. She is a bitch horrid lady. I can do level 3 of the Shred (minus rock stars) but this was something else. And who invented crow push ups?

I DID PHONE IT IN SO THERE! Angry

(might try again tomorrow though)

catgirl · 16/09/2012 21:30

what the... are crow push ups?!! I am planning on my 6am alarm tomorrow to carry on with whatever it is I am doing! My mind has gone blank trying to figure out what crow push ups are!! Confused

ILoveLemonCurd · 16/09/2012 21:34

catgirl They sort of involve trying to bring your knee to your elbow as you press. That woman is evil, I tell you.

ILoveLemonCurd · 16/09/2012 21:37

Oh and don't bother getting up at 6 am, sleep is great, muffin tops are great

Can you tell Jillian broke me today?

Movingforward123 · 16/09/2012 22:29

His everyone, I am thinking about shredding again! I did it in January but I only got upto day 11 and I'm sure my belly looking better and my hips and legs looked more Shapley! But I also think my thighs got bigger! Did this happen to anyone else?

I tend to build muscle on my legs very easily which is not good as my thighs are big!

I have just started couch to 6 k which I think will be great for fitness but will not change my busy as quickly as I would like.

KTP · 17/09/2012 04:18

Hello everyone. I'm a new starter to Shredding. After reading these JM threads, an offer for her DVD popped into my inbox, which I took as 'a sign!' and ordered it straight away.

I'm on day 3 and what feels worst are my elbows and knees I'm only using 1kg weights but am convinced arthritis must be lurking in my body.

I do a Zumba class weekly and a yoga class but was surprised by how crap I was in the cardio sections......onwards and upwards. I'm off to do day 3, as I'm in Oz and my day is well under way!

BalloonSlayer · 17/09/2012 06:51

Finished Shred at last!

I look lots better . Just like I did last time . . . note to self: remember that fact!

My Next jeans - and my new work trousers not from Next- fit fine everywhere except round the waist, I could fit a large bonkbuster-style novel inside the waistband with me!

Trouble is so many clothes at the moment seem designed to hide a muffin top and I want to flaunt my new trim tummy.

Weight? 8st 13, which is fab, but probably was only 9st 1 when I started so not astounding, but then I am too old to get too thin.

New target Continue being careful with diet and do 6W6P. And try level 2 this time!

notyummy · 17/09/2012 09:48

Well done Balloon! Realy inspirational.

Ilovelemoncurd (So do I BTW!) L2 Ripped is a LOT harder than L1. Everyone finds that, so don't get too down hearted. In fact I think the contrast is more marked because L1 Ripped is realtively easy (for JM, anyway...) Easier than anything else of hers that I have done - almost like an intro to show you how to do the exercises properly. That lulls you into a false sense of security....and then you move up to L2 and it hits you like a ton of bricks. If it's any consolation, the step up to L3/L4 is nowwhere near as marked IMHO.

I know what you are saying about resting the calf. I really am terribly naughty. I have been assiduously doing the stretches that the man in the running shop showed me specifically for the lower calf, and I will steer clear of any running for some time. I couldn't resist a NMTZ on Saturday, which hasn't seemed to cause me any problems. I then did L1 Killer yesterday, which again was absolutely fine as there isn't really any running or jumping. I substituted something else for the high knees. Not sure what to do today. I may try Insanity Cardio Abs, as I think it doesn't have anything dodgy in. Will see. Rest day tomorrow.

Movingforward123 · 17/09/2012 11:33

ballon well done Smile

What was your belly like before shred? Would you say that's the area that it worked the most on?

I'm worried that my thighs will get bigger if I do the shred! As last time I thought they did!

MegBusset · 17/09/2012 12:55

Just shredded L1 day, er, 5? (Losing track a little!). I didn't shred over the weekend as I ran on Sat and was out with the DC all day yesterday so too knackered by evening.

My thighs are definitely getting a little more muscular but seem to be a little slimmer too. I would have thought you'd need loads more strength involving the legs to get seriously muscly?

notyummy · 17/09/2012 14:41

Did L1 Shred in the end as I couldn't get my Insanity (dodgy) disc to work! hadn't done L1 for ages and always good to try something different. Used 1.5kgs for the cardio sections. Used 5kg weights throughout the strength (apart from the side lunge and shoulder raise where I can just do with 3kg - and that was HARD.) Think my upper body will feel it tomorrow. Decided that the one level was enough as I haven't had a rest day for a week. Still a good workout, although the cardio does seem more 'relaxed' compared to some of the other JM and Insanity - even with weights!

Fifi1979 · 17/09/2012 19:31

Hello all, I'm new to mumsnet, joined today as been doing 30DS for a few days and thought your thread would help to keep me motivated. Gave birth to second child 13wks ago by c-section, i've been doing weightwatchers since the birth but have a stubborn 10lbs to go until I reach my goal, also desperate to tone up my c-section overhang- it is so much worse than I ever expected it would be!!! So fingers crossed jillian will help to sort me out, finding it ok so far but only done it twice!!!!

sweetkitty · 17/09/2012 20:50

Right I've phoned it in too much the past few days!

Been very low just couldn't find he motivation. Had a mega baking order today so have literally just sat down, back to Shredding tomorrow.

VenetiaLanyon · 18/09/2012 08:59

Welcome Fifi, and enjoy the world of Jillian! 13 weeks would be v v early for the c-section overhang to go; took mine a couple of years, but then I didn't discover Jillian until last year...

Notyummy, I often come back to L1 Shred, assuming it will feel easy, and actually it never does, although like you I use weights for cardio and pimp up the basic abs moves.

L2 Ripped today; the 2 minute plank circuit is still a killer, and I still don't think I do the crawling up the leg ones properly; I can't get very high and subsequently find them too easy, but am not flexible enough to get up like Shelley and really feel the benefit...

McPie · 18/09/2012 09:49

Ouch! I had a go at NMTZ yesterday for the first time in ages and my legs and bum ache so I think it will be my go to dvd for a little while. I even managed to do the surrenders properly for the first time EVER Grin.
I have a 1 hour total body workout class (cant be any worse than body combat last week, what a way to pick my first ever class) at 10.30 the dentist at 12.35 and the nurse at 3.35 along with picking up the kids at 2.45 so I am enjoying a cuppa before things start to go crazy!

Happypiglet · 18/09/2012 14:06

Progressed to L2 Ripped this week, so done it twice so far. And it's as hideous as I remember (except the last circuit which I find OK).. It's all those plank CV moves. I just cannot do a full two minutes my arms cannot do it. And then in the second circuit another minute of plank CV stuf.... Yuck.
Ilovelemoncurd I would never attempt L2 Ripped with anything else! So don't get disheartened.

CHST · 18/09/2012 17:13

popping in. Have been rotating Jillian for a while now and felt like a new challenge so have started Insanity. I feel like I did the first time I started out on this journey...scared and not very motivated! I did the fit test yesterday which wasn't as bad as I thought actually as I was familiar with most of the moves thanks to Jillian. Today did the first "real" workout and it was tough. I didn't push myself 100% but then I always start out trying to find my feet a bit. I hope as the time goes on I will be addicted. I have always been too scared to push myself too hard and hope this will change that. Notyummy how did you find insanity in the beginning? did you have a favourite workout?
There, I said it so I have to keep at it!

catgirl · 18/09/2012 20:57

Ilovelemoncurd - ok thanks for the description, not sure I'll be trying that anytime soon!
Day 7 done, couldn't manage 6am yesterday so did it at 8:30pm instead, was impressed with myself tbh as I am not known for sticking to exercise and any excuse to give it a miss!! still cannot figure out how I am going to get to Level 2 - does it just happen that you find yourself skipping through L1 and you realise you can progress, or do I have to take a deep breath and go for it at some point?? hope y'all are still shredding/ripping/crowing/whatever it is.....
