Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Hope you're feeling better soon, Badvoc.

I had trouble 'going' at first, despite making sure I drank enough and are enough leafy greens. What helped me was a spoonful if ground ( or whole) lobsters with a bit of cream and total yoghurt and say 6/7 blueberries for my breakfast. I suspect BIWI will not agree with the berries but I haven't found it has halted my loss or made me feel worse.

Yes, I need some advice or ideas about doing an emergency on the cheap version of this WOE. Does anyone know if tescos own ff Greek yoghurt is ok? (dairy seems ok with me if I'm careful)

MsSlinkyTwit · 03/08/2012 12:24

Fuckit linseed not lobster....

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 12:24

lobsters?!
Grin
That would be an expensive diet!

I really need to buy a tape-measure.

After a 5 week stall I dropped 3 pounds last week by cutting the treats. Still no treats or extras this week and I've put a pound back on. My period is just about over so I can't blame that. Grrrrr!

I have been going to the gym though and can actually see muscles in my arms and legs so I'm telling myself that muscle weighs more than fat and I'm probably slimmer and more buff. I can't check though because I don't have a tape-measure and truthfully my clothes feel the same. :)

Whippoorwhill · 03/08/2012 12:26

I want lobsters for my breakfast! Grin

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 12:36

Apparently Lidl does the best ff yoghurt, SlinkyTwit - although I'm only going by hearsay.

Cheap cuts of meat to look out for that are fab on LC:

  • stewing steak - look for shin of beef
  • breast of lamb - here is a fabulous Simon Hopkinson recipe; Replace the onions with shallots and halve the quantity - it will still make plenty of oniony sauce. Sainsbury's sell breast of lamb as a 'Basics' cut of meat, so it's cheap
  • belly pork (buy it in a piece - should cost around £4 for a piece big enough for 4 people)
  • and mince - people often overlook mince; it makes loads of fab recipes - see my version of shepherd's pie on the Bootcamp recipe thread

Do you buy fat mince? I bought lean steak mince (12% fat), but should I be buying the cheap fatty kind?

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 12:59

I prefer to buy steak mince, so if there's only the low fat kind I buy that, but then add olive oil to whatever I'm making with it

Hi, just checking in with all the low carbers although I'm a bit in-and-out. Biwi when is your holiday? Are you too excited to sleep yet? ;)

I wondered whether anyone watched the Hairy Dieters. I was disappointed by the low-fattery and the "calorie is a calorie" approach. But I suppose if you eat 3500cal a day (!) you actually can cut calories without it doing you any harm and there probably is scope for weightloss in the traditional ways. Still, I get a bit upset by the continuing push at low-fat towards people who need to lose weight because I just keep imagining them all sad and hungry and food-obsessed.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 03/08/2012 13:42

What book is good for emotional eating? I ate lunch at 11 because I was bored/tired, and had to stop myself eating some more at 1. I've made a mug of coffee and cream instead and am sipping it slowly.

B: Greek yoghurt, tea with milk
L: Low-carb cottage pie (neep mash)
Snack: little bit of cheese, coffee with cream

WillieWaggledagger · 03/08/2012 13:47

waitrose do a lovely coarse/chunky (can't remember what they call it) mince which is steak but higher fat than other minces (I can never find anything but lean mince in sainsbury's)

i'm off for two weeks camping from tomorrow morning so won't be on the threads for a while, but will look forward to catching up when I get back.

emmak86 · 03/08/2012 14:13

Have a fun time camping willie Smile
Try to stay off the marshmallows round the campfire haha!

B- low carb almond puff pancakes
L- chicken breast with parsley, basil, chilli flakes and mushroom with salad :)
D- will be liver and bacon with a small amount of mashed butternut squash and spinach and green beans

Jins · 03/08/2012 14:17

When I started out shoulder of lamb was as cheap as anything and we used to have it at least once a week. Less than £2 for a decent piece iirc. Now it's almost the price of a leg. Belly pork has also gone up but it's still reasonably priced. Chicken unfortunately has become my staple as it it's my least favourite. It needs extra fat though so I can smother it in cheese.

Steak has gone stupidly priced. I get steak in bulk from a cash and carry and butcher it badly myself. I bought a piece of rump for £17 and managed to get 8 decent sized steaks and enough off cuts for a couple of casseroles.

mummyduff · 03/08/2012 14:36

BIWI that recipe looks great, will be trying that over the weekend.

jins you look fantastic, well doneGrin

Well today I have been very good, 4 pints of water, brunch was gammon, salad and mayo.

Have just got some sausages from waitrose that are very LC -

and taste lovely x

mummyduff · 03/08/2012 14:37

sorry 1st link did not work x

emmak86 · 03/08/2012 14:55

jins you look great.. You must be so pleased!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 03/08/2012 14:58

Mummyduff, Tesco do some Toulouse-style sausages (in the Tesco Finest range) that are low carb. Mmm, sausages.

Dinner tonight will be chicken Caesar salad using smoked chicken and home-made Caesar dressing.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 03/08/2012 14:59

Jins, you do look brilliant! although selfishly it makes me depressed to think that my current weight is almost the same as your starting weight and I'm the same height as you

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 15:01

Hi vezzie! We go a week tomorrow. Yay!

TooImmature, the best book I've read on the emotional side of eating is The Idiot Proof Diet, by India Knight/Neris Thomas.

Nothing wrong with eating if you're hungry, btw, as long as it's low carb!

jins those photos are great. It is abit nerve wracking putting them up for the first time though isn't it?

Just had a convo with DM as we are visiting them next weekend. She asked about any special foods and I just said don't make anything special, we will just not have the carb part but will have extra veg instead. She then asked if we eat lasagne.Smile got to smile really, they just don't get it.

She did mention the hairy bikers programme that was on last night. They have both lost 3 stone and they were making a lasagne without pasta and used sheets of leek instead. Apparently it went down a storm so I am going to see if I can get it on catchup to have a watch.

Jins · 03/08/2012 15:27

Thanks for all your lovely comments.

TeamGBIWI · 03/08/2012 15:38
