Don't drink wine.

MelodyPondering · 24/07/2012 12:06

I second the wine (currently have a hangover, should practise what I preach!)

Whole grain toast for breakfast and then no carbs for rest of the day...

mrsbrooks · 24/07/2012 12:46

An app like my fitness pal. Used every time any food passes your lips. So you just whip out your phone and enter that cup of tea, bite of fishfinger, extra crackerbread etc etc.

Doesn't work for me if I'm not absolutely on top of it, but if I am, it's all I need to do. 1600 cals a day and I loose at 1lb a week...

pettyprudence · 24/07/2012 13:07

When I need to get back on track with healthy eating I write down everything I eat each day with the calorie and fat content to sort of shame myself if I eat bad things. After a week it two I'm back in the mindset of "not wasting calories". I'm back on the wagon now after having ds.

FunnyLittleFrog · 24/07/2012 14:21

Low carb. No bread, pasta or rice and loads of meat, fish and veg. If you can do it most meals on most days you'll easily lose the weight.

cybbo · 24/07/2012 14:25

My fitness pal

It like writing stuff down that you eat, only better

I've lost 10lbs in about 5 weeks, so steady and it's retrained me IYSWIM

PostBellumBugsy · 24/07/2012 14:28

Ditch the carbs & drink lots of water.

Creamtea1 · 24/07/2012 14:32

Keep an eye on water intake - make sure it's enough
No alcohol or fizzy drinks
No carbs after breakfast

Lottapianos · 24/07/2012 14:35

Stupid question - do soda water and tonic water count as 'fizzy drinks'?

daisydee43 · 26/07/2012 10:53

Really getting on well with fitness pal, is anyone else on it so can befriend youSmile

rhondagraymond · 01/08/2012 14:12

You need a weight loss diet [http://www.dukandiet.com/] that is nutritious and balanced. If you want to lose weight, you?re going to have to watch your calorie intake. This means cut down on your carbs and eat more proteins. Try and include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Team it with fish, chicken or any lean meat of your choice. Drink lots of water and get adequate rest.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 01/08/2012 14:14

For me the only thing that works is almost no carbs, and no alcohol...

blackcatsdancing · 01/08/2012 14:35

drink more water, stop snacking and eat less carbs.

Elainey1609 · 01/08/2012 16:50

higgle · 02/08/2012 16:38

I calorie count using Myfitnesspal and have a steady weight looss of 2lb per week on 1200 calories. I don't really understand the low carb idea though. I eat plenty of healthy carbs - brown rice, baked and new potatoes without any buter etc. and find that these help satisfy me, I really couldn't face a diet of nuts and very high protein levels which would have me off track in no time at all.

vnmum · 02/08/2012 16:45

cut the carbs. elainey cutting carbs only makes you feel hungry and depressed if you are not eating enough fat. For low carbing to work you need to eat high fat, mod protein, low carb

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 02/08/2012 17:01

It is definitely useful to keep a watching eye on teh calories. Who knew (well, maybe you all did, except numpty me) that nuts are very high in calories? Very easy to ratchet up the calorie count with them. So helful to knwo where you can swap in or out a different, lower calorie, option.

teaandthorazine · 02/08/2012 18:54

I think most people would be off track very quickly if they ate 'a diet of nuts and very high protein'. Luckily that's not what low carb is about, at all.

Low carb, moderate protein, high fat. Plenty of water. No booze. No sugar. Not NO carb, either!

Not depressing or hunger-making, quite the opposite in fact!

coffeeinbed · 02/08/2012 19:50

lots of plain yogurt, fills you up really well.
no wine.
oatibix.
soup.

BetterTogether · 02/08/2012 19:54

Exercise is key for me. I calorie count but I find it so much easier when I exercise - a) I get more calories to play with, b) I'm more motivated and don't want to "ruin" my hard work if I've exercised, and c) if I'm exercising at, for eg, 7pm then I won't eat from 5pm so that means from 5pm-8.30pm ish without food which makes a big difference!!

I go to classes or the gym three evenings a week and I definitely find it a lot easier to stick to my calories on those days. I think a big part of it, for me, is just getting out of the house in the evenings which is usually my main snacking time!!

blackcatsdancing · 02/08/2012 19:55

carb rich foods are core elements of the vast majority of the worlds population. They are the staple around which most meals are constructed. My partner has type 1 diabetes and eats a very carb rich diet, (virtually all good carbs except for a daily glass of red wine or the odd beer), he is far slimmer than most men his age and is not any more active than your average man. Carbs are not all equal! I completely agree that cutting down on carbs, especially bad ones will help with weight loss but most of the worlds population are not obese so there is more to it than just carbs are bad.

BonkeySaysTeamGBAreTheMollocks · 02/08/2012 20:04

Calorie count.
