Morning campers!

Today's sermon is about cheating. There's been plenty of it along the way and there will be plenty more of it in the future.

It is important to accept that this is and is going to be a fact, as (hopefully) this is about a way of eating, rather than a diet. That means that sometimes there will be occasions and circumstances where it's impossible to keep the carbs down. The classic is when you're invited to dinner and your hosts serve you something 'forbidden', like pasta or rice.

Every now and then you will find that you also have a 'fuck it' moment. Where, for whatever reason, you eat something you shouldn't. It happens.

So.

If you're going to do it, do it right!

If circumstances are beyond your control - e.g. the dinner party - don't stress about it. If you've deliberately gone off piste, don't feel guilty about it. Enjoy the moment while you're in it.

What is absolutely critical is what you do next.

Beware that you will crave carbs and don't let yourself spiral out of control into a mammoth carb fest! Make sure that the 2-3 days immediately afterwards are strictly low carb, and drink plenty of water. And avoid the scales for the next few days!

Here endeth the lesson.

2 egg, 3 bacon, a whole courgette, fried in oil. Yumble.

Creamtea1 · 20/06/2012 14:52

Anyone interested in bmi and dress size go and have a look at the thread currently active, raises a few eyebrows too ;)

jan2011 · 20/06/2012 14:52

on point 6 - i have found that to be true. often when i struggled with binging, i found it worse when i was exercising a lot - probably because i was starving later and didn't think i should be eating more to compensate. i still don't get the first bit though, how we don't get fatter by eating excess... where does it all go?
and just say we are not eating carbs, but eat too much fat, more than our bodies need for energy, where does that go? does our metabolism just burn it all off?

Jins · 20/06/2012 14:55

Um no.

It passes in the normal way Grin

jan2011 · 20/06/2012 15:24

i get it how can i be so thick ha

QueenStromba · 20/06/2012 15:30

ditavonteesed: If drinking water is making you feel thirstier then you are probably low on salt. You'll be eating much less processed food on this diet so taking in less salt, plus your kidneys will be flushing out a lot more water which means you'll be losing a lot of electrolytes. Your best bet is to either get some lo-salt to put on your food to keep your potassium and sodium levels up and take some magnesium supplements or get some of this and either put a teeny bit in each glass of water or drink a whole load of it in one glass of water every time you feel low on salt. More symptoms I find of being low on salt is feeling tired and a bit spacey, craving salt and barely being able to taste salt in things i.e. eating something that I know should taste really salty but it just tastes normal. I think there is some sort of natural check and balance with salt so if you aren't low on salt it will taste really strong and a bit unpleasant but if you are low on salt it won't taste very strong but will taste pleasant.

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2012 16:12

thats interesting, will look into it if it keeps happening, I guess my body is not used to being flushed out as I dont normally drink much water at all.

will try to keep to 2 cups of coffee a day then. Going on holiday in 7 weeks and would ideally like to have lost a stone by then, does that sound doable? It is so hard to get your head round the whole idea of low carbs since most meals are made up of mainly carbs.

Whats the opinion on cheese? can you have it and how much?

ditavonteesed · 20/06/2012 16:14

Sorry, another post, does this woe also help with wind and bloating then, because I am always bloated and spend half my life trumping which I hate, although dh thinks its really funny.

LittleFrieda · 20/06/2012 16:19

BIWI, Jins - thank you so much for telling me all that. It really is very helpful hearing people's stories. You are both doing amazingly well.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 20/06/2012 16:29

I've noticed the reduction in wind too! Blush

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 20/06/2012 16:35

Me too, i wasn't going to mention it though....i am normally quite windy Blush

mummyduff · 20/06/2012 16:39

ok so dinner is beef stir fry, am so thirsty today!!

QueenStromba · 20/06/2012 16:46

I also used to be really windy but now I barely fart at all. I normally only fart now if I've eaten out and have just gone for things that don't obviously have wheat in them rather than quizzing the waiter about it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/06/2012 17:11

Can't believe we are in Week 10

mummyduff · 20/06/2012 17:22

its mad isn't it 9 weeks has gone so fastSmile

puffylovett · 20/06/2012 17:35

I stopped farting when I ditched the carbs. Did some fantastic noisy ones last week on hols following bread and sugar. They've stopped again now though.
I do have a bit of an intestinal candida issue though

WillieWaggledagger · 20/06/2012 17:52

I have had to forget celeriac because that made me really bloated and windy, but other than that I have had no windiness on this woe.

Dp has asked me to make flapjacks as a 'healthy' snack for the DofE trip he's going on this weekend (he is a teacher). 'healthy?' Hmm sez I

QueenStromba · 20/06/2012 18:05

Are you sure it was the celeriac? What did you have with it?

QueenStromba · 20/06/2012 18:15

Sorry, I should expand on that last post really. One of the good things about a low carb diet is that you end up being practically gluten free. A lot of people are actually intolerant of gluten but never figure out that the symptoms are anything other than normal for them because gluten is pretty ubiquitous. I'm wondering if instead of having reacted to the celeriac, did you maybe have it with some bisto or something else with wheat in it? When you haven't had any wheat for a while the reaction to having even a small bit of it can be pretty dramatic. I've also found that my adverse reactions to wheat can take 3-6 hours to manifest themselves so sometimes I'll immediately think of blaming dinner when actually it was lunch that was the problem.

Thegoddessblossom · 20/06/2012 19:04

I too am less windy. HTH. Grin

Someone DH has found my pork scratchings stash and eaten the bloody lot. [cross]

ohforfoxsake · 20/06/2012 19:06

Oh here you are. I've been looking EVERYWHERE for you.

MNP · 20/06/2012 19:09

I still fail at breakfast but do try to have a supper to make up for it, to be fair lunch is often within 2 hrs of waking up (waking nights with job) so have lunch, dinner and supper. I also can't eat for an hour after my morning meds so easier to wait ((creeps into the corner))

Still am 'happy' with my average 0.6lb / 9.5oz a week loss, so week 10 and lost 8lb still 48 to go.

MNP · 20/06/2012 19:11

Oh botheration TheGoddess

HumphreyCobbler · 20/06/2012 19:13

this is all so interesting, thank you for this thread. I have been feeling better today, I think my tiredness yesterday was the result of not sleeping very well (shock horror). I am a chronic insomniac and normally boost myself by drinking loads of cups of coffee with sugar, thus perpetuating the cycle. The night before last I slept late and woke early, so no wonder I felt tired.

I am only two weeks into my cycle - am very interested to see if this stops my monthly carb obsession. I normally eat normally for three weeks and then binge on week four, it is only by herculean efforts that I manage not to over eat at this time.

WillieWaggledagger · 20/06/2012 19:49

i'm pretty sure it was the celeriac as i had had everything else before and had been fine. no bisto but i did use a gluten free stock cube, which I've always been fine with. maybe i over- or under-cooked it before mashing (I'm not very experienced with celeriac!)
