SpeedWalk or run for 30 mins a day 7 wk challenge

fishface2 · 03/06/2012 10:28

Im going to walk or run for 30 mins a day starting tomorrow. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow and then at the end of 7 weeks( sch summer hols). It would be great to have a companion , anyone up for it? I currently do no exercise but I have jogged in the past. I'm overweight, probably nearly 12 stone and a size 14. My excuse for not exercising is that I have no to time with wanting to spend time with dd and working full time. However, work will be reasonably quiet over next 7 weeks so I'll be able to fit it in. I think at least one partner would help keep me motivated.

I'll join. I need motivation to get into running and meet my goal of completing at least one 5km run this year. But a bit scared to step on the scales as I've let it go big time recently :S I'll be using the c25k week 3, for the first week at least (so half walking and half running)

ZZMum · 03/06/2012 12:18

Me! I am 12 stones and size 14 and today realised just how much flab i have, especially on legs so running for 30 mins a day is where i need to go... Will start tonight at gym ...c2 5k...again.. Great idea.. Talk later when done!

fishface2 · 03/06/2012 13:55

Excellent zzmum and itchywitchy. I'll post again later when I've done 30 min speed walk and weighed myself. Have fun at gym.

Me too please. I have started c25k so many times and not got beyond w4. I need motivation!

I will start again at w2.......if i may...

ZZMum · 03/06/2012 21:07

Day 1 done! Bring on day 49....

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 03/06/2012 22:52

Well done! I power walked 30 minutes in the pouring rain. Havent dared to get on the scales though!

littledolly · 03/06/2012 23:26

I would advise measuring yourselves too. I'm on wk 9 of couch to 5k & have been following weight watchers all along and have not lost a single pound! All my clothes are looser & people are commenting on my weight loss but the scales haven't moved. Really wish I'd measured myself before I started!

itchywitch · 04/06/2012 12:24

Ran w3 today :) It was a push because I was tired after work but I felt better for it. Will have to remember to take measurements tomorrow morning

fishface2 · 04/06/2012 15:14

I shamelessly didn't make it out yesterday but then i did say I would start today initially. Just did a 30 min power walk! No turning back now. I need to go and research all this w3 w2 terminology?

I'm going to sound like a mum here sorry Blush but please be careful with running every day, especially outside and especially if you aren't already running regularly, you could do some horrible things to your joints, especially knees, even if you are fit cardiovascularly. I am all for 30 mins a day of exercise (manage an hour 5 times a week at least myself, am v fit) but would never run on consecutive days....maybe try alternating runs with swims/shred/a class or gym workout? Just a thought Smile.

ZZMum · 05/06/2012 08:13

Sleep- I agree - I am doing to C25K and do find legs quite tired some days - so am going to mix it up a bit wiith walking and swimming - I am just trying to get to where you are - would love to be very fit and working out an hour a day - currently I die after about 10 mins!

today am out with the kids, so I will be walking very fast .. in opposite direction to them!

itchywitch · 05/06/2012 10:01

I ended up passing today due a couple of reasons but did make an effort to use stairs etc when I could.

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 05/06/2012 10:09

OK so spent yesterday on my feet for 12 hours so didn't do special exercise. Just about to go and do a bike ride.

Still putting off starting c25k though....

ZZMum · 06/06/2012 15:36

So... Today am playing badmnton for 1 hour and did 2 hours walkingout with kids... How are the rest of us doing?

madwomanintheattic · 06/06/2012 15:46

I know I'm late, but I'd like to tag along. Same ish stats as the op, but seem to be size 16 verging on 18. Hoping this will encourage me to be active every day - I have a class on two days a week, but need to put a bit more effort in the rest of the time. I will say 30 minutes exercise level activity, but am going to slowly intro back to running. Used to do a lot, but have suffered shin splints etc in the past, so don't want to overdo it. Have also just started new job with free fitness membership for a month, so free access to pool will help! Am also old and knackered, which doesn't help.

omydarlin · 06/06/2012 19:43

Hello can I be a late comer too - set myself a 30 min activity a day challenge yesterday . Made time for a speed (ish) walk today before picking DD up from playscheme I felt so much better for it . I want to get back into C25k but I lost it on wk 3 last time - however this will mean getting out at 6:15 am before DH leaves for work I need encouragement help!!

ZZMum · 07/06/2012 07:38

welcome to you both! Not sure what happened to fishface - hopefully she will be back soon .. so today I have a 1 hour PT session so that should be me knackered for rest of day..

tomorrow I am going to start C25K .. again! Hope everyone achieves their goals today!

HowlonguntilFriday · 07/06/2012 07:56

Can I join you? Think that I should be able to fit in 30 mins a day, although I think that it will be more walking than running!! Hoping to combine this with following WW so will (fingers crossed) see results and fit into last year's clothes...

omydarlin · 07/06/2012 09:13

Thank you ZZMum I'm with you back on the C25k friday - if I can find my ipod charger! Just done a 35 min salsacise dvd (Rosemary Conley 2005) been sitting gathering dust for yonks on my shelf - really enjoyed !

Decided to go to festival Bank Holiday August so need to slim down and tone up a lot before then as I will be in Hawaiian dress on carnival night!!

sassytheFIRST · 07/06/2012 09:17

What a good idea. Can't start till Saturday (unless weather improves enough to take dds on bikes with me) as dh is away BUT this sounds v achievable, esp in lighter nights.

Count me in!

ZZMum · 07/06/2012 09:30

excellent - sounds like a few of us now! I am going for 10 weeks to holiday plan - also doing WW - had lost 5lb in first week but I think the jubilee weekend saw most of that back on .. but for first time ever on a diet am not giving up .. just going to try harder - need a halo emoticon!

madwomanintheattic · 07/06/2012 14:30

I have a class today for an hour, too, zz. So today is organised for me!
