I would imagine it would take twice as long TBH. Why must you suddenly lose so much? Have you been advised to lose this much weight by a GP?

KateSpade · 30/04/2012 17:03

For really fast weightloss I don't recommend weight watchers.

How about the Dukan diet?
Or the weet-a-bix diet? Oatibix is lower carbs mind? (I made that one up, you just eat weetabix and nothing else?)
Make sure in the ten weeks you do loads of exercise, obvz! Smile

Come and join my low carb Bootcamp!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/1461748-Bootcamp-Week-3-Come-and-chat-here?msgid=31493177

We're on week 3 now, but have had several new people join today. About 80 of us signed up to start with and some of the losses have been spectacular - one poster lost 13lbs in the two weeks. I lost almost half a stone.

Littlefish · 30/04/2012 17:06

I think you need to be a bit sensible. 10 weeks is not long enough to lose 3 stone unless you do lighter life or something like that.

You should be aiming to lose between 1 and 2 lbs a week, so you could hope to lose almost 2 stone following a sensible and healthy diet that you will be able to continue when you get back.

happyhappymummy · 30/04/2012 17:07

You could expect/hope to lose half of your desired 3 stone in that time, happyhappymummy, if you lose at the rate of 2lbs per week. With low carbing, the advantage is that you can see a big loss in the first two weeks, which gets you off to a really good start! After that, though, even if you do it properly and don't cheat, your rate of loss will be the same as any other diet - i.e. 1-2lbs a week.

Nettee · 30/04/2012 18:35

Do slimming world. It is a healthy balanced diet and will be sustainable when you get home. Lots of people have big losses in their first weeks you could loose nearly 2 stone in 10 weeks without too much pain.

As much lean meat and most types of carbs as you like and lots of fresh fruit and veg. I have around 3 stone to loose too and think I am on track for a 3 to 4 pound weight loss for my first week back ( after having a baby)

happyhappymummy · 30/04/2012 18:43

Thanks again for replies :)
I need something to follow, Im rubbish and pick rather than have meals. This is also a life change for me aswell as for the hols.
Alot of people have suggested Slimming World.
Well done to you all :)
Im gonna look up SW now to see when my meeting is and also get my butt down the gym. I go to zumba at the mo which I love but I need to tone.

What does this mean? Message deleted by Mumsnet? What happened?

I think that MNHQ probably thought it was more of an advert than a genuine post.

I've lost 5 stone with Weightwatchers in the last 18 months. I didn't get on with slimming world as I need more structure and limits than slimming world offers - it relies on the ability to recognise when you are full and therefore, stop eating.

exoticfruits · 30/04/2012 21:25

Rosemary Conley did it for me- 2stone in 5 months.

happyhappymummy · 30/04/2012 21:28

Oh I see thanks :) Well done both on your weight loss!
I think ww is easier to follow. I def need structure!
No RC near where I live.

why lose weight "for a holiday"? never get that concept.

Either start a healthier life style for life. Or don't bother.

Long term, diets don't work. So you lose weight, then "let go" on holiday and come back heavier than you were.

are you 3 stone overweight? What BMI would you be with 3 stone less?

Good luck! Taking up a sport you love is the best advice I can give you, as it means you can eat carbs (as you burn them off) and don't have to do some weird unsustainable low carb craze diet.

exoticfruits · 01/05/2012 07:35

I used RC to lose it but you have to accept that it is changing eating habits for life, you can't lose it and eat what you like on holiday (unless very, very active holiday)because you will be back to square one. I lost mine 3 years ago and it is still off.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 01/05/2012 09:46

Chandon - low carb isn't a 'craze diet'. There is more and more data available to support that it is not only good for weight regulation/loss, but also for your general health.

That said, I agree with the rest of your post.

happyhappymummy · 01/05/2012 15:19

Chandon.. I know! I understand its got to be a life change, I was panicking thinking how can I go along side all of these curvy women. I do need to make changes.
I weight 14 stone 1lb and Im 5"5 not sure how my bmi stands at that. Hate to think actually!
I go to zumba which is great but eat! I mean eat too much!
exotic.. This is true! Well done to you. Hopefully I will be a success story one day.

OP posts:
Chandon · 01/05/2012 18:17

keep up the zumba! I really believe sport is more important than diet (or well, it goes hand in hand)

foreverondiet · 01/05/2012 20:37

Realistically I think the most you can lose in 10 weeks even if you are very strict would be 2 stone, following something like dukan (ie low fat low carb) very strictly - see also clean and clean diet - basically lean protein and veg. Plus exercise every day.

SW/WW will yield slower losses.

happyhappymummy · 01/05/2012 21:37

Chandon.. will do :)
forever.. 2 stone is better than none Im hoping to join the gym and be super super good following a diet and lose as much as I can. Im panicking and not wanting to go right now. It feels like so much pressure.

OP posts:
Nettee · 02/05/2012 18:34

I lost 5 pounds in my first week at slimming world! yay! Two of the others who joined last week had lost 8 lbs. Anyway of course the weight loss will slow down now, most people had lost 1 - 2 lbs and there were some gainers and maintainers. It is a really healthy diet though. With calorie counting or ww it is easier to have ready meals as they at easy to count but probably full of salt etc. Personally low carb diets make me feel I'll (although I expect the advocates would say that is because I am addicted to sugar). Good luck with whatever you decide to do but the most important is to start something and don't feel under pressure - you don't have to do it perfectly you just have to keep doing it and you will get there in the end.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 02/05/2012 18:35

Yes, Nettee - you feel ill if you start low carbing because you are withdrawing from the carbs!
