Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

OP posts:
teaandthorazine · 18/04/2012 14:52

That may mean you're in ketosis, mummyduff! I do find I get v thirsty on this WOE - but it helps remind me to drink the water anyway.

mummyduff · 18/04/2012 14:53

glad I'm not the only one thirsty WizzyBizzy Smile

MrsNouveauRichards · 18/04/2012 15:09

Had a bit of a 'moment' earlier when I decided that life is too short to deny yourself the little pleasures in life (toast and biscuits) but after a cup of tea with only a small spoonful of sugar added I felt so much better. I have been having tea without.

I want to be slim, but mostly I want to be healthy. My diet obviously doesn't agree with me (like many here I get a bit 'bunged up') so taking steps to change it is a good thing, which has got me thinking about my general WOE and how I can change that in the long run.

How BIWI copes with us all I don't know, we are like a load of hormonal teenagers! :o

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 18/04/2012 15:10

Not sure I know The Actual Truth! But I was talking to my trainer today who agreed that it's not uncommon to be thirsty despite drinking a lot of water. He is very slim and toned and probably only weighs around 11 stone (curse him) but drinks at least 3 litres of water a day.

alien - not really sure what you mean by 'stalling' - we are only on day 3!!! Just be patient. If you can't give up the coffee/sweeteners totally that's fine and won't be the end of the world. Just try and cut down a bit if you can.

One other thing that could be important if you are all really drinking loads of water - sometimes you need to add a bit of potassium back into your diet (as the water can flush this out), in which case avocado is very good. It's also worth switching to Lo Salt for your food.

Reality - veg like salad/spinach, whilst very good for you, has a high water content, so other veg should be added in. Along with fat! And if you're not drinking the water ...

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 18/04/2012 15:11

Grin MrsNR

You are all fabulous and I luff you all.

NotMostPeople · 18/04/2012 15:13

If our bodies we're not eating many carbs so our bodies have to burn fat why are we eating fat as well? Surely we want the stored fat to be used.

Resisted chocs and went for salami and philli, but today is proving harder.

londonone · 18/04/2012 15:21

Hello - Bit late to the bootcamp party but hop[efully you will let me join! Just got back from two weeks holiday including a wedding. Managed to be sensible for most of time, but also let myself have a few nights off etc as I am trying to think of this as a lifestyle thing rather than a diet per se. Delighted to find that I lost 4 pounds over the two weeks although not in ketosis for 2nd week. So altogether that is 1 stone and 4 pounds in the last 5 weeks including two weeks on holiday!! Very inspired by the bootcamp and hoping it will jolt me back into ketosis. Egg and bacon for breakfast yesterday and moussaka for lunch/dinner. Ocado delivery arriving today so smoked salmon for breakfast and cold roast chicken and hard cheese for lunch. MIght go indian for dinner or possibly chilli (no beans, but with guacamole!)

Keep going everyone, the first few days are the hardest but after that you should feel great.

slowlyburningcalories · 18/04/2012 15:21

wizzybizzy my DH thinks he has died and gone to heaven - two cooked breakfasts on a work day no less!

AND I keep buying him food I can't eat so I think he will pile on the £'s

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 18/04/2012 15:24

Welcome, londonone! Add yourself to the list

ShirtyKnot · 18/04/2012 15:26

Hahaha MrsNouveau...

I must admit to being a bit befuddled at all the panicing! I gained 4 ounces overnight

It's OK GreenEyes - I did actually gain 4 ounces overnight. The fact I know this coupled with the fact that I'd slightly obsessively tried to work out in my brain how much sleepydust might weigh puts me STRAIGHT IN THERE WITH YOU.

PostBellumBugsy · 18/04/2012 15:50

notmostpeople carbs make us fat because of the hormonal response they trigger in our bodies. Carbohydrates & sugars trigger the production of insulin and insulin is the primary hormone for fat storage. If you stick to a low carb diet (i.e fat, protein and very low carb veg) you do not trigger the production of insulin and therefore your body will not be storing more fat, you will actually use your own fat as fuel.

It also means that you don't have yoyo-ing blood sugars, so you stop craving carby foods, energy levels tend to stabilise during the day because your body adjusts to using its own fuel rather than the constant crash & crave with sugary snacks. Lots of other good things happen too - but that is just a very simple explanation for starters!

Hope that helps.

The very first time I ever dieted I was just a little bit obsessed. I realised that was so, when I wondered if it would be possible for me to see the scales without my contact lenses in, as they would be contributing to my weight Blush
