Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

I had eggs for brekkie, tuna salad for lunch and sausage/chorizo/onion/pepper/tinned toms thing for tea, plus broccoli. Plenty of water, and even been for a run!!! Feeling very virtuous, but oh my lord the headache is unreal. Just want to get to bed and be asleep and escape from the pounding in my poor head.

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/04/2012 19:44

Strange question, but isn't too much water dangerous? I read some article (probably in the daily fail tbf) about marathon runners over-hydrating which can kill you. How much is too much?

Sorry, I know I am a trouble maker, first the sugar free jelly, and now this.... :o

PostBellumBugsy · 16/04/2012 19:44

Checking in at the end of the day, to say I've been good.

Fell off the rails for first time since January this weekend. It was my birthday & I drank quite a lot of champagne & I ate chocolate & some coconut macaroons & I had quite alot of champagne - did I mention that already?!

Anyhow, firmly back on the wagon today & really pleased to have a two week bootcamp ahead of me.

Hope you feel better soon BIWI.

MariaCallous · 16/04/2012 19:46

Biwi, your so masterful!

Livelongandprosper · 16/04/2012 19:48

Breakfast - fried egg and sliced mushrooms fried in butter
Lunch - swede mashed with butter, leeks fried in butter with a handful of prawns
Dinner - Boiled egg with lettuce, green pepper and home made dressing

Help - I cannot stand the taste of the Total full fat yoghurt! How do I make it palatable? I think I bought the wrong sort of vanilla to add to it, I had to put loads in before I could taste it and then it went straight to bitter.

Exactly what are you guys adding to it to make it taste nice??

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 16/04/2012 19:49

BIWI I don't have to pick the strawberries out of my Special K red berries cereal do I?

I've been bad today, but I'm not on the list yet Grin

I've had a KFC and a jam doughnut for tea Blush

However according to myfitnesspal I am still in the green!
(due to dog walking, dog agility and Jillian Michael workout)

I have been at the same weight for months though, I think it's age. Can't see myself ever being much below 9st.

PostBellumBugsy · 16/04/2012 19:50

You only need to worry about water if for some reason your kidneys can't excrete the liquid. Marathon runners are at risk if they drink too much while running because of something to do with their sodium levels dropping. In extreme heat, you can encounter problems due to an electrolyte imbalance and those with very low body mass can also be at risk. Obviously if you have kidney problems, you should seek medical advice before radically altering your liquid intake.
For normal, healthy individuals, as long as you keep peeing, it is extremely unlikely that you will suffer any ill effects from drinking to much water.

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/04/2012 19:53

Thanks, I knew there would be someone who was not as stupid cleverer than me :o

Hepsibaaah · 16/04/2012 19:56

Struggling to finish my 2Litres tbh, I'll be peeing much of the night at this rate :(

Feeling headachey now as well, going to pop some tabs, brush teeth and head to bed with my bottle of water before DH gets the munchies and hits the bikkie tin (not told him I'm on LCs yet)

Gincognito · 16/04/2012 19:59

May I say that I have had ATROCIOUS carb flu today, as predicted. Achy, shivery, nauseous, the runs, horrible heartburn...

Gary Taubes' book recommends extra salt and bone broth or consommé to relieve this. I am making chicken stock tonight (boiled for ages with bones cracked = bone broth) and will drink with a spoon of marigold bouillon in tomorrow. hope this might help anyone in the same boat.

PostBellumBugsy · 16/04/2012 20:03

If you can bear it, bovril is good for a salt boost. I find it is strangely filling & gets me through the mid-morning snack craving.

ohforfoxsake · 16/04/2012 20:05

Thanks again Gothicmama Smile

I have had a good day

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/04/2012 20:05

Would Marmite wirk?

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/04/2012 20:06

*work

SharonGless · 16/04/2012 20:08

Ok so to recap I have had :-
B bacon egg and mushrooms
L: tuna salad
S: celery and cream cheese
D: left over beef, buttery cabbage and cauliflower cheese

Now can I have a Greek yoghurt or not? Have been drinking caffeine but also had a diet coke. Can I not have a can? If it will stop me getting in ketosis then I can live without it.
How many carbs a day am I aiming for? Slightlyconfused.com (but not hungry!)

Got off to a bad start - with Strawberries, ground flaxseed & total yoghurt - will egg it out tomorrow, followed by a left overs lunch of almonds, 1/4 cup of veg soup with parmesan and 1/2 avocado. Dinner was fab - Masala of home made paneer cheese with coconut & spinach served with cauliflower rice...yum! I have a nice bath planned toght to take my mind off Wine I have a feeling I won't get into ketosis...too many veg -but as long as I lose a bit of weight I don't really mind so much.

PorkyandBess · 16/04/2012 20:21

I had the yummiest, really low carb lunch from M&S. It was a crab and prawn cocktail thing, absolutely gorgeous.

Ooh, Betty, your dinner sounds delicious - care to share the recipe on the recipe thread?

Twit · 16/04/2012 20:33

Have drunk loads, but feel a bit twitchy as this is the time I might scoff something (usually sweet) so am keeping on drinking and might find something to eat - even though I don't feel hungry.
I felt a bit icky earlier at the though of eating more meat so had smoked salmon with soft cheese and salad with mayo and a slosh of olive oil. I'm a wee bit headachey but TBH that is more down to the older kids being 'difficult'.
Out of interest when should we start feeling it if we are going to feel bad?

Gincognito · 16/04/2012 20:33

Not sure re marmite MreNouveau, sorry.

BIWI · 16/04/2012 20:33

littlemagic - where is your veg? You are supposed to be eating veg/salad as well as meat/eggs!

Gin someone else suggested another thread for chat, but as I've already got two other bootcamp threads going I thought a 4th one was probably pushing it

BerylStreep · 16/04/2012 20:36

I think diet coke might not be in the rules - what with it being heavily processed. It's hateful stuff anyway.

SharonGless · 16/04/2012 20:39

Ok on one site it had bovril at 2.9 carbs per 100 ml so seems ok?
