Lots of you have said you want to do this - now it's time to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak.

Oh, alright, it's free. Grin

The plan is that we have two very strict weeks of low carbing. Which is why, doh, it's called a bootcamp.

There are 'rules of engagement' for the fortnight - but they're different if you're carnivore or a vegetarian. I shall post the rules for us carnivores, and flipflopflap will post the rules for those of you that are vegetarians.

Sign in with your starting weight - in pounds, stones and pounds, kilos or - if you don't want to reveal your weight, with 100 as an index - and what you're wanting to achieve in the two weeks. I know that not everyone is doing this for the purpose of weight loss, so you don't have to do this if you don't want to - but tell us what you want this fortnight to help you achieve.

The Carnivore Rules

1.Eat three, proper meals a day.
You must eat breakfast. It doesn?t have to be a lot, but you must have something. For the rest of the day, if you?re eating enough food and you are in ketosis then you shouldn?t be hungry. But if you are hungry, eat something. (Hard boiled eggs make a great snack)

2.Avoid processed food
Focus on pure, natural protein as the basis for your meals ? meat/fish/eggs. Things like sausages, ham, bacon, pre-prepared burgers etc should be avoided as much as possible. You can have them, but just not every day. Avoid foods marketed as low carb, e.g. Atkins Daybreak bars.

3.Eat lots of fat.

Eating fat helps you to burn fat. Honestly! Fry in butter, add butter to vegetables, eat salad with a home-made vinaigrette dressing (not made with balsamic vinegar though, as this is too sweet), add mayonnaise where you can (just check the carb count on your mayo first). Eat fattier cuts of meat ? e.g. pork belly, roast chicken with the skin on and/or eat the fat off your lamb chops. Absolutely no low fat/light foods of any kind!

4.Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food ?
This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable. But choose only those vegetables that are on the allowed list. You don?t have to weigh/count carbs ? this is one of the great joys of this WOE (way of eating), but if you?re new to low carbing it can be helpful to weigh your portions of veg in the early days, just so that you know how many carbs are in the sort of portions that you like to eat

*5.Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited). It can impede weight loss for some people. If you are still drinking tea/coffee with milk or cream, try to restrict yourself to max 2 cups per day. You may eat cheese, but don't overdo it. Full fat yoghurt is the best way to include dairy in your diet - but beware, it does contain carbs. Total Full Fat is the best.

6.You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.
The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink

7.No alcohol
If you really can't do this - at least try and restrict it to the weekend. Vodka with soda is the best thing to drink. Or Champagne, red wine or dry white wine.

8.No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada.

9.No nuts/seeds
Whilst these are really good to snack on later - it can be too easy to start snacking on these - and before you know it, all your carbs have gone on nuts. Seriously - in bootcamp - don't do it to yourself.

10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

YouveCat

BIWI I don't have to pick the strawberries out of my Special K red berries cereal do I? I hope you're joking?! No cereal on low carb at all, never mind on bootcamp. And why haven't you signed up yet?

If age is a deterrent to losing weight I may as well sign off now!!!

Tw1t - probably by days 2/3. I never went through it - although withdrawal from caffeine for me was horrendous.

Sharon (I think it was you) - Diet Coke is full of horrible artificial stuff, which is why it's not allowed in bootcamp.

Re a separate chat/weigh-in thread - once everyone is signed up, we can leave this thread for chat and then I'll post a specific weigh-in thread on Sunday.

Thanks BIWI o diet coke but been reading Custys blog and there is flavored water out there which is carb free.
I have also switched to using Stevia sweetener on the rare occasions I need it. Can't seem to find any info in the low carb world about it

slowburner · 16/04/2012 20:50

Ah shucks and buggery balls.

I didn't see the message about b beans till I had had 95g of the delicious beggars, along with 75g of peas.

And then DH offered me a bit of his burger and I accepted before considering the bread roll. Argh. This could be harder than I thought!

teaandthorazine · 16/04/2012 20:52

End of day 1:

B - serrano ham and philly rolls, peppermint tea, vits, water
L - melted brie with celery, duck confit with spinach (and horrible sweet sauce, grrrr), fizzy water, no booze
S - almonds (sorry BIWI, but they are the boring unsalted kind, and I had about 5 of 'em with another litre of water)
D - oopsie rolls with ham and cheese, more water, more peppermint tea

So, not too bad. Have been weirdly tired and headachey today despite this being my 4th week of low-carbing, but last night was a bit indulgent so that's probably why. Have drunk about 3L today.

Verdict on the oopsie rolls - slightly strange but rather nice. I had them with Philadelphia and ham, and I really could kid myself I was eating a sandwich Smile Have saved two for tomorrow's breakfast. They're difficult to describe, remind me a bit of Nimble bread I suppose, very light. Not eggy, which is good. Worth a try, I reckon!

slowburner · 16/04/2012 20:52

Um. I must have missed something on the giving up of caffiene...

I have drunk black coffee today...

ledkr · 16/04/2012 20:59

BWIW I wanted some jelly so there .......

Ive slowed up on the water cos i must sleep without too much peeeing cos Im always up at 6 with baby lark.

Going to have a cup of hideous mint or green tea (does anyone really like that stuff reeeeeally?)

Had a luch tea and feel full up now. I must admit i am finding it weird to eat fatty stuff after all those years of low fat.I was just about to spray my butternut with spraylite when i realised i could have some olive oil yum.

ledkr · 16/04/2012 21:01

WTF is an oopsy roll please?

GettinTrimmer · 16/04/2012 21:06

Just to add to the ideas - just remembered for those of us who liked boiled egg with soldiers, Nigella recommends dipping asparagus spears in it.

Slowburner agree about the coffee! I love cappuccinos but at least managed to have black coffee today, but not enough water. Will try harder tomorrow.

slowlyburningcalories · 16/04/2012 21:08

Will buy asparagus just as soon as it's in season :)

Love the stuff.

BIWI · 16/04/2012 21:09

It's not so much the giving up of the caffeine - it's more about the amount of milk that you end up drinking with them.

I didn't manage to knock the coffee on the head today either. Felt too shitty to even bother trying, tbh.

Ok issues here - thought I was going to be out for eve but actually back early - so had no tea and it's 9.10pm - any suggestions for something quick but not heavy?
Also still no movement!!

BIWI · 16/04/2012 21:16

If you have an oriental supermarket near you, or you fancy doing a bit of online shopping, I can highly recommend shirataki noodles www.shiratakinoodle.co.uk/. They are zero carbs and really good. They have a slightly rubbery texture - sort of like rice noodles - and work well as a spaghetti substitute as well.

These are the ones I have used

BIWI · 16/04/2012 21:16

Creamtea1 - what have you been eating over the last couple of days? And how much have you drunk?

They look so interesting BIWI. I got sucked into a good hour of browsing this today. (I'm sure you've all seen it!) and am amazed at some of the recipes.

Who knew cauliflower is actually EVERYTHING? Confused

flipflopflap · 16/04/2012 21:30

Right, Day 1 over-

B: Boiled egg first thing, Then some Alpro yogurt when my shopping arrived.
L: Applewood cheese salad
S: Babybel and some olives
D: Veggie 'Lasagne' using aubergine instead of pasta, with a side salad.

I've drunk over 2L of water but haven't been to the loo all that much! I can only conclude I was pretty dehydrated from the weekends booze overdose, more water for me then Shock

BIWI · 16/04/2012 21:32

Oh yes, Shirl - I found that site today as well! Had to stop reading it as I was supposed to be working Blush

NotMostPeople · 16/04/2012 21:32

According to Google you can get the noodles from Waitrose, I'll nip into my local one tomorrow and report back.

Creamtea1 · 16/04/2012 21:34

Biwi - been good today and yest, a good 3 litres water per day plus my teas. Today was scrambled egg, chicken mayo and salad, and just this min had salami, small portion blue cheese, salad leaves with bit of mayo - I need to keep eye on cheese. The salad/meat/cheese cOmbo has filled the gap. For the 'problem' I have too add that I am not renowned for being regular, ever - ahem, I struggle (nice!) - have gone over a week before! going to have a peppermint tea now I think.
Have barely felt hungry today - could easily have gone without the late dinner but knew that is a bad idea.

BIWI · 16/04/2012 21:35

Oi, Pistey - you're dripping everywhere!

Blush
LoopingLizards · 16/04/2012 21:44

OK here goes for today:
Breakfast- boiled egg whites, coffee
more coffee
lunch- chicken salad
coffee
tea- sliced boiled bacon and cheese

I must have missed out that we can't drink coffee? Seriously? I'm not sure if I can... feeling slightly panicked now lol. just black is that ok or do I have to say goodbye to my dear friend?
Didn't find it too bad. Have found a cafe near work that will do omelet or chicken or tuna salads so once I'm sorted for out and about it doesn't seem too daunting!

GreenEyesAndHam · 16/04/2012 21:49

I'm doing without caffeine because ....um well, the Idiot Proof Diet tells you to... can't quite remember now what the reason is?! Mind I also shelled out near on 40 quid at the weekend on the supplements they tell you to buy as well Hmm

Anyway, for me personally there's no way I could drink tea or coffee black, and without sugar- so cutting it out is the only sensible solution

Creamtea1 · 16/04/2012 22:02

Looping lizard - you probably need to eat more (green) veg with your dinner
(hides from Biwi thread mistress incase dispensing wrong advice)

FiddleDeFat · 16/04/2012 22:10

If I remember correctly, the reasoning in the IPD for no caffeine was simply that some people find it stalls weight loss.
