BIWI's Two Week Low Carb Boot Camp - starts Monday 16 April

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 06/04/2012 22:41

I've been back low carbing seriously since February and have lost a stone (almost). I have another 1.5 stones to lose.

It's been going well for me, but I have slowed down in the last month and I'm keen to get things back on track and up the speed of my weight loss. To that end, I have devised a strict two week bootcamp.

It will start on Monday 16 April to give anyone who wants to join in time to sort themselves out, get planning and generally get themselves ready to join in.

Who's up for it?

Yummy ham round dairy lea is very doable

MarzipanNPrayers · 11/04/2012 17:04

Pitta is 4g carbs here

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/04/2012 17:28

I have been looking on BBC good food site this afternoon for recipes, particularly breakfasts, have found a few I think would be good, will add to recipe thread later when I am on laptop.

BIWI · 11/04/2012 18:09

I hope you're not still eating salad cream/sandwich spread?! They are high in carbs.

Cheese triangles I don't know about - check out the back of pack - but also look out for any artificial ingredients/sweeteners.

How much weight do you have to lose?

And you need to up the water even further - 2 litres is the absolute minimum.

LackaDAISYcal · 11/04/2012 18:52

Had a practice recipe tonight.
Chicken leg roasted with lemon and black pepper with mushrooms and spinach sauteed in garlic butter. Deliciously moreish :)

Is full strength Hellman's ok then? After years of low fat everything, this is going to take a bit of getting used to!

WillieWaggledagger · 11/04/2012 19:05

yes daisy, I've struggled not to automatically go for the light mayo, light cream cheese etc!

I've done well on water the last couple of days. The supermarkets have their picnic ranges out now, and I got a 1.5L plastic jug in sainsbury's yesterday for £2.50 for my desk at work. because it's just there I got through two jugs between 7.30am and 4pm (was worried I wouldn't manage my 1.5 hour journey home without stopping to wee on a verge though!)

Tw1t · 11/04/2012 19:07

I know lacksadaisy it feels wrong. I'm glad to be reminded that we need to eat fatty stuff, I am worried about dropping my calories too much and it affecting BabyTwit (well my milk really)
What should we do if we feel we have to boost the old calorie intake BIWI or others?

BIWI · 11/04/2012 19:12

If you're doing it properly, you won't be risking dropping your calories!

By properly I mean eating three good meals a day and upping your fat content. And snacking if you're hungry. There is no need to go hungry on this way of eating.

teaandthorazine · 11/04/2012 19:49

1.1g carbs per Dairylea triangle...I've not had one of those for YEARS!

Using iceberg as a wrap is a great idea. Waitrose have started selling duck and iceberg wraps - I think they're about 9g of carbs a pop so not brilliant but better than a sandwich if you're out and about and surrounded by bread!

Tw1t · 11/04/2012 22:09

should I get salted or unsalted butter or doesn't it matter and I am overthinking it now Grin

Thanks for this BIWI - it's just what I need. Smile

BIWI · 11/04/2012 22:14

Get whichever you prefer! Waitrose do a gorgeous Brittany butter with ock salt crystals

BIWI · 11/04/2012 22:14

ROCK salt crystals!

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 11/04/2012 22:20

This is a great thread - lots of recipes.

I needed a boot camp as although the low carb had worked brilliantly, I had lost the plot 10 days ago and went back eating bread and cakes like a glutton. Mad.

I have gone back to low carbing in a big way today - concentrating mainly in fish (beacuse I love mackarel, tuna and salmon so much).

For those worried about counting carbs - just to say I haven't bothered. I went from 12.3 to 10.7 and ate as much green veg and cauliflower as I liked. I don't think I have been in ketosis (deliberately have avoided it). I think just keeping away from processed carb shit has done it for me.

I am going to weigh myself tomorrow to see what damage I have done in recent times, and then weigh in officially on Monday.

GetOrfMoiLand78 · 11/04/2012 22:21

God that brittany butter sounds marvellous.

MissPricklePants · 11/04/2012 23:34

can i join you all?!?! I need to low carb as I have a weird type of anemia and need to increase the protein i eat and reduce my carb intake and would love to lose weight as well!no idea where to start though!

MarzipanNPrayers · 12/04/2012 00:32

Yep, have stopped the salad cream :(

Posted another chicken, bacon, cream recipe on the other thread.

Cool so breakfast could be a ham, lettuce and triangle roll or 2.

As to goal, am 15:10 now and want to be in the 12's. Managed 3lts of water and a 2h30m drive with 1 stop.

GoOnPitch · 12/04/2012 08:52

I also have started to take some vitamins/minerals mix which is supposed to help regulating the insulin levels (and help with sugar cravings!).

I've done this diet before and found the vitamins did help a lot at the start of the diet.

MrsPrickle, same situation than you. I have found that upping my protein intake has made a huge diiference to my energy levels. Only problem, I wanted to go vegetarian... And I can't face yet to go vegetarian and have a high protein intake so I've gather that I would in a better place by making myself well before undertaking anythingelse.

Could I also suggest chicken stock? I find it fantastic as a drink and very energy boosting. I'll put the recipy on the other thread.

BIWI · 12/04/2012 08:52

MNP - I do use salad cream (light) occasionally as I don't always like mayo in some things. Egg mayonnaise with mayo makes me so I do have to add a little SC to lighten the taste.

But it's only very occasionally, I'm afraid!

well done on yesterday's water. And great recipe.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2012 09:35

If we aren't allowed sweetners, does that mean...... No gin?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/04/2012 09:36
KeepTheChange · 12/04/2012 09:36

Can I ask what's with the no sweeteners?

Are they carby or is it more of a personal preference thingy?

teaandthorazine · 12/04/2012 09:44

Some of us do use sweeteners now and then though really part of the idea of low-carb is to reduce your cravings for sweet things altogether.

For some people sweeteners can stall weight loss as they prime your body to expect sweet stuff. You then release lots of insulin to cope with it etc etc which messes up your blood sugars (haha, very scientific explanation there Blush). Blood sugar control is one of the brilliant things about this WOE - no more slumps and highs = no more cravings.

I will admit to the odd bowl of Total yog with blueberries and a weeny 1/4 tsp of Splenda at the start of the diet. And then it just started tasting overly sweet so I left out the Splenda and don't miss it at all now.

Splenda can be handy for cooking but not on bootcamp!

LackaDAISYcal · 12/04/2012 10:35

I need to work on my water consumption. At the moment my liquids are either herbal or weak black tea, and Pepsi max, buckets of the stuff Blush
I am well & truly addicted and get really twitchy if I have to go to bed knowing there is none in the house for the next day. I've been trying to wean myself off it a bit this week, but not really successfully.

BIWI · 12/04/2012 11:30

Pistey NO ALCOHOL ON MY BOOTCAMP!

So lack of slimline tonic will not be an issue for you.

KeeptheChange - they aren't carby, but as teaand points out, they can 'fool' the body into releasing insulin. But more to the point, they are full of horrible, nasty, dubious stuff, and the point of the bootcamp is to encourage everyone to have a fortnight of 'good' food, that is as unprocessed as possible.

ohforfoxsake · 12/04/2012 11:35

I am SO in :)
