The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

OP posts:

No reduction isn my cognitive capacities here - in fact my brain power seems far sharper. Plus I have a pretty senior role, assume my managers would have complained if my decision making capabilites had reduced.

Plus it is low carb, not no carb. I eat my own bodyweight in vegetables, it seems.

And yes sag paneer is high fat, but it is not an everyday thang. Ditto the macadamias.

cobblers I measure myself on the waist by the belly button, and on the hips (never entirely sure where to measure myself but just go to the widest bit). Never measure my bust line as I am flat chested and don't care anyway. Grin

Glad your weight is going down biwi

GetOrfMoiiLand · 26/03/2012 13:28

That sounds pretty good re Paul Newman dressing. I wonder what is in it.

I love Lidl Mayonnaise, as it tastes like the expensive ponce mayo from Waitrose and is only 0.14g per serving (10g).

I still haven'y had any stewed rhubarb, I am determined to get some today befre they stop selling the stuff (must be coming out of season now).

Creamtea1 · 26/03/2012 13:31

cobblers how about waist - say keep the tape measure in line with your tummy button (to be consistent), hips, maybe thighs?
also people often comment about faces looking thinner, wondering out loud how to measure your own face? Hmm
so far:
3 cups peppermint tea
1 litre water
hard boiled egg, anchovie and cheese salad for lunch
8 mile bike ride
and some ahem, bathroom breaks!

if there is no loss tommorow (even 0.1 kilo would make me happy!) i wont be happy! :)

Creamtea1 · 26/03/2012 13:34

GetOrf - rhubarb is only just coming into season - youve got plenty of time yet! its coming along nicely in my garden now

forcedinsomnia · 26/03/2012 13:36

Is this a good diet to try if I have a baby belly (+) to lose? I am really rubish at dieting in general (had some success pre baby with weight watchers but can't make a class really now)? I have been given a workout by my gym and I have started to do that too. But I am constantly hungry and don't know what to do to stop feeling this way?

forcedinsomnia · 26/03/2012 13:38

Should I perhaps have said I am 5ft4 and currently weigh a whopping 11 st 9lb. WOW!

BIWI · 26/03/2012 14:22

Welcome, forcedinsomnia! One thing this woe (way of eating) is guaranteed to do is to stop you feeling hungry all the time!

Creamtea1 - where is your breakfast? You must eat more than you are doing. Seriously.

Brightspark1 · 26/03/2012 14:39

My apologies for posting out of turn BIWI. I'm new to MN and still learning how it works. It's just that 25 years experience in the field has led me to that conclusion.

BIWI · 26/03/2012 14:45

That's OK, Brightspark. But those of us who are here are on this/these threads because of a commitment to this way of eating. By all means give us your views, but links to supporting evidence would also be useful.

Oh, and welcome to Mumsnet Smile

lemniscate · 26/03/2012 17:33

Hello all - I'm back from my trip to Marrakech a few pounds heavier but happy! I didn't deny myself anything - too much of a trip of a lifetime (no kids, 5th wedding anniversary, amazing hotel, fabulous presents!) to be too hard on myself - but I was able to regulate myself without feeling hard done by. So I would have a spoonful of couscous with my tagine rather than the whole bowl, a small piece of bread rather than demanding seconds, and the odd piece of cake here and there rather than eating a whole patisserie's worth (and believe me, there is a patisserie in Marrakech that serves some of the best cake I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot of cake!) So a few pounds on, but not bothered as I feel that within a fortnight of starting this eating plan I have already changed my attitude to food and seen the light, so I should get back on track quite quickly :)

Brightstar - welcome to MN! I have been reading about low GI as it seems to me that the India & Neris diet (and maybe the others) actually ends up in maintenance phase as being pretty much a low-GI type diet (pulses, rice, oats all fine albeit limited) I think here on this board we are quite hard core low carb as most of us are in the losing weight phase, but then when we switch to maintenance it will probably be more low-GI anyway. Or at least that is my understanding of the literature.

lemniscate · 26/03/2012 17:39

brightspark of course, sorry Blush

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 17:42

Boo hoo!

I gave in at dinner and had rice with my chicken and sagg

Man this low carb stuff is hard!

Tomorrow is another day will start again.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 26/03/2012 17:42

oh lemni that sounds like a fabulous trip! sounds like you had a blast. Grin

I agree with you re the low GI on maintenance, I think that is sort of what happens once you have lost all the weight you want to.

CAn I also suggest measuring round your wrists, under boobs (like you would if getting measured for a bra) around knees/calves and ankles.

It really helps motivate in the weeks when you dont lose pounds. I have lost 1lb this week, but I can tell you this, my bras are too big for me (lost 3 inches) and my jeans are far too big for me. That is motivation to keep going, well it keeps me going.

PrincessTamTam · 26/03/2012 17:52

OMG have had a baaaaaaaad week since mothers day! Totally off piste; chocolate, wine, toast - the works! Now I feel very tired, bloated and hungry all the time... Back to the beginning for me - how rubbish am I? (hangs head in shame). Have not dared weigh as I know it will be a disaster, but will do it tomorrow morning and report my shame. EEEEK.

vnmum · 26/03/2012 20:29

hi all. Can I just ask where do you all get your carb grans info from? The reason I ask is that tonight I had an omelette with chorizo and mushrooms. I weighed the mushrooms but the atkin's book only gives a value for them raw which is 1.2g for 35g. So I looked in my Collins little gem book for a value for cooked mushrooms and it gave them as 0.3g per 100g fried in oil. Now that is a big difference so I am now concerned as to the real carb value of things. I could be going over my allowance without realising just by using something that has the wrong carb values

teaandthorazine · 26/03/2012 22:15

Oh dear, not a brilliant weekend low-carb wise Blush. It could've been worse, I guess, but it did involve a bit of pizza and four squares of Whole Nut...

Anyway, back on the path now, avoided chocolatey goodies galore at work and have been pure IPD all day. My stomach has gone right down, no more bloating, love it!

The thing I've really noticed since I started IPD is the amount of CRAP I used to eat. I sat in a meeting today with a table full of choc brownies and muffins, several different types of fruit juice etc and thought 'Two weeks ago I would be straight in there' and now I just don't want to. Partly because I'm not actually that hungry these days (my blood sugars are so obviously under better control now, I don't get those horrible sugar highs and lows and cravings) but partly because I just think 'It'll taste good for about a minute and then I'll feel bloated and heavy and pissed off with myself and I'll put on weight. So what's the point in eating it in the first place?'

I used to do a lot of mindless eating, just putting food in my mouth, hardly noticing or tasting it sometimes. This has made me really think about what I eat (pizza and Whole Nut notwithstanding!) and that can only be a good thing. My weekend cheats really didn't taste as great as I thought they might...

BIWI · 26/03/2012 22:15

I use a low carb site and there is a carb counter on there - www.low-carbdiet.co.uk

vnmum · 27/03/2012 08:08

i checked that site BIWI and the values are the same as my collins book, so maybe the Atkins figures are a little out

butterflyexperience · 27/03/2012 08:54

Please advise:
Is Chester cheese allowed on Atkins?
If not what cheese is.
And is ham allowed?

Thanks

Creamtea1 · 27/03/2012 09:03

butterfly - ham is fine (but make sure its good quality, not cheap nasty ham) and i think you mean cheddar cheese, which is also ok. just dont go eating the whole block of it!

Creamtea1 · 27/03/2012 09:08

not weighed in yet after my extra virtuous day yesterday, just waiting a while and will do later this morning. dinner turned out to be salmon fillet, grilled mushroom, garlic mayo (scoured the labels for lowest one) and salad
followed by very small piece of tesco finest swiss 85% dark chocolate which was DISGUSTING compared to G&B 85% so went in the bin anyway!
also realised it is only 1 week till TOTM so need to get through this bit on a good week, and hopefully see a drop after that.
shows how much damage a bad weekend can do - will have taken me virtually a whole month to get over 2 days of badness.
and an exercise day off today, woo hoo!

devilinside · 27/03/2012 09:31

2lbs off this week! Doing lowish carb (not enough to go into ketosis) I try to be extra strict on Mondays and Tuesdays though (so I can be a little less strict at the weekends)

Yesterday - lunch: 4 tuna fishcakes (beaten egg, ground almonds, tuna, creme
fraiche and parsely)

Dinner: home made burgers with spinach leaves, tomato, avacado and coleslaw

Snack: Double cream with a spoonful of philly, couple of squares dark chocolate melted in, sweetner to taste (low-carb chocolate mousse)

greenfig · 27/03/2012 09:57

Bad weigh in this am despite a good day yest, but am PMSad Have shredded & trying to keep positive here. Well done to all!!

teaandthorazine · 27/03/2012 10:22

Just had avocado wrapped in parma ham for breakfast - yum Smile

Now on 3rd glass of water. Have an essay to write but keep getting distracted by this thread!

AngryFeet · 27/03/2012 10:40

Weigh in number 5 and 3.25lb down this week! Well I think so anyway but my scale was being odd this morning so can't be 100%. I was 12st 13.75 a few days ago so it could reasonably be correct :)

So weight loss thus far is:-

Wk 1 - 6lb
Wk 2 - 1.5lb
Wk 3 - 1lb
Wk 4 - 1.5lb
Wk 5 - 3.25lb

So total loss of 13.25lb in 5 weeks :)

Fingers crossed to be a stone off by next week!

I also did a quick measure and I have 3 inches off my waist and 2 (I think) off my bum - didn't check anywhere else but will do in the next couple of days.
