The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

Dropped to 12st 13.75 this morning! Fingers crossed it doesn't go up before weigh in on Tuesday.

Dinner out tonight and had calamari (best choice and I was starving!) and then pork belly with spring greens and green beans. Very yummy!

butterflyexperience · 25/03/2012 21:46

Thanks for the tips and link to Atkins.

I'm so confused!
I came across the duet I'm trying on a runners forumn and it's to cut out sugar and carbs which I have problems with. Can't remember the name.
Meant to eat protein and veg with every meal.

After 4-5 days of feeling rough your meant to feel amazing and to drop lb's in the first week.

Atkins sounds do complex with the phase stuff...boggles my tiny brain Grin

Think I'm going to get myself the idiot proof book - its the meals on the hoof (lunches etc) that I need help with. Have not been so hungry today so think I've been better - chicken/salad for lunch and beef stew with broccoli for dinner. Probably not enough water but had a good try. Also got some senna tablets in as cant stomach the syrup of figs!
I am happy with the nice weather and poss bbqs as love the meat/fish/salad/coleslaw combos, yum. Have strenuously told hubby that this weeks dinners WILL be healthy salad/fish/omelettes and I can't just 'have a night off' - he is of course tall, slim and can eat and drink whatever and whenever he wants in any quantity without gaining an ounce. The weeks when he works away are when I lose the most weight!!

Creamtea1 · 25/03/2012 22:13

Butterfly it sounds like the harcombe diet maybe?

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 06:57

Tis called the Maffetone 2 week test.

Anyone else heard of it?

BelfastBloke · 26/03/2012 07:44

Almonds are one of the lowest carb snacks, I believe, but had a few too many of them on my weekend road trip.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 26/03/2012 08:25

creamtea the IDP is really good.

Creamtea1 · 26/03/2012 08:43

glum and despair....back up to 10.10, spoke to soon after my good day yesterday (obviously not so good), it seems like SO long now since any loss (17th march to be precise) and in fact have only gone up since then, and stayed up.
need some kind of words with myself and to stop being impatient and to stop scale watching!

greenfig · 26/03/2012 09:39

Morning! Poor you creamtea It is tough when you plateau.
I am up since sat am but generally heading down week on week, so feeling positive. The sunshine certainly helps! I have heard lots of success with ZH but have not tried it myself. Good luck with a new week everyoneSmile

OhCobblers · 26/03/2012 10:31

Well I'm still weighing the same since Thurs (which is a 5 pound loss for the first week) but thought I'd have lost a bit more partic as i've been going a bit mad in the gym at every available opportunity!!

I'm going to be out tomorrow night and I will have a drink (not having one is NOT an option!!) so pls advise what is the best thing to drink, ie, alcoholic!!

TIA

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 10:33

Help!

Having a major carb crash and a ham sandwich is looking mighty good...

Do I cave in?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 26/03/2012 10:41

No - leave the ham sandwiches alone!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 26/03/2012 10:43

I have just eaten a packet of macadamia nuts for breakfast, sat at my desk.

A tiny 60g packet - best part of 500 calories but 3g carbs.

I feel completely full because macadamia nuts are basically lard (it seems) so very filling.

PostBellumBugsy · 26/03/2012 10:47

No butterfly, don't give in. You are probably hungry - have something to eat - but just not something carby. Have the ham, or have some cheese - get a tub of egg mayo - just stand back from the bread!!!

I am on a plateau at the moment too in terms of weight loss. Some days I appear to have lost a pound & then the next day I haven't. Grrrr! However, my clothes are continuing to feel looser, so I am not going to worry. My experience of doing this before tells me that after my first stone, it is a long, slow battle to keep shedding. Remembering not to lose heart & go carb crazy because I think I'm not losing is the biggest thing.

I keep saying to myself - very few people (in fact no one) picks me up - so they don't know what I weigh. However, everyone can see if my clothes are straining at the buttons or hanging off me like sacks - that is what really matters!!!!

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 10:47

What can I have instead?
Had a handful of walnuts but no difference.

I'm not hungry just feel weak and shakey and craving bread

This is day 2 for me

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 10:50

Think I'll have my lunch early
Tuna and boiled egg salad

Breakfast was veg omelette

Thanks for helping, the thought of having to answer to you lot really stopped me from carb scoffing!

BIWI · 26/03/2012 11:13

butterfly - one of the really important things about low carbing is that you plan your food. If you don't, you'll find that the only foods that are (usually) to hand are high carb options!

Creamtea1 · 26/03/2012 11:17

cobblers - for drinks have vodka/gin and tonic...or just neat, lol..i think thats about as 'un-bad' as you can get it :)

plateaus all round it is then ladies, boo hiss. i think also the problem is stressing about it - literally every day have been stressing/weighing/going mad and that doesnt help. Need to try and chill and be like, whatever and that will help.
The clothes thing is a good judge.
also it is good when your friends/family comment (which mine never do...grrrrr)
omlette and salad for lunch

BIWI · 26/03/2012 11:18

Scales show my weight is coming down again, albeit slowly. I've decided to step on them twice each time, to make sure that they say the same thing each time, and that has been working.

I'm also modifying what I'm eating to make sure I get a better balance of protein, fat and carbs.

Started this morning with full fat yoghurt and stewed rhubarb (sweetened with a teensy bit of Splenda and some vanilla bean paste). Yum Smile

Lunch will be chicken breast (minus skin - didn't have any skin-on at Tesco Express) and baby Brussels sprouts and mangetout, in butter.

Dinner will be salmon fillet marinated in garlic, ginger and soy/lemon, with stir-fried bean sprouts, baby sweetcorn and mangetout.

ilovemyteddy · 26/03/2012 11:18

Butterfly - I find the trick when I am feeling hungry, or when my weight has plateaued, is to drink LOADS of water, in my case about 3 litres a day. It fills you up and helps with the weight-loss (something to do with your liver not getting dehydrated so that it continues to use your body fat in place of the carbs you aren't eating.)

The water-drinking has really helped me maintain a continuous weight-loss of about 2lb a week. I think it's all the exercise I get going to the loo every half-hour Smile

And day 2 is early days on low-carbing - you are going to feel awful for a few days and then you'll be fine. Honest Grin

butterflyexperience · 26/03/2012 11:20

Thanks for the support

And balance has been restored after an early lunch - feel much better Smile

BIWI - your dinner sounds lush!

Brightspark1 · 26/03/2012 11:28

Ditch the low carb, a high protein diet makes your wee acidic which causes you to lose calcium, making you more likely to get osteoporosis later in life. Your brain needs carb to function, a study of dieters showed their cognitive capacities deteriorated on a low carb diet.I.e. it affects your ability to think straight. You also end up eating a lot of fat (esp in sag paneer)
Low GI is a much healthier option, at least you won't wreck your health in your bid to get your weight down.

BIWI · 26/03/2012 11:50

Brightspark1 - this is a support thread, and a long-running one - for low carbers.

Why bother to post this?

There's plenty of evidence to support the benefits of low carbing as well as fat.

OhCobblers · 26/03/2012 13:14

Can anyone suggest exactly where i measure myself. I'm utterly useless at this sort of thing and can't imagine DH being any help with a tape measure!!

I'm hoping that were i can't see loss of lbs that i see loss of inches instead!!
Smile

CointreauVersial · 26/03/2012 13:21

Now then, salad dressings.....

Browsing the shelves in Waitrose this lunchtime (ooh, the exciting life I lead) I picked up a bottle of Newman's Own Italian dressing. Only 1.6g carbs per 100g - brilliant, considering a portion is about 15ml. But every single other bottle I picked up was 20-30g per 100g. Every one. I couldn't find another bottle that even came close.

Has Mr Newman made a mistake? Nothing suspicious on the list of ingredients, but I can't work out why everyone else's is so carby in comparison.
