The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

oh my goodness vnmum - I honestly can't remember. It was in a long running chat & she was a sporty lady, wearing a crop top & running shorts.
It was quite remarkable and made a big impression on me. She was noticably leaner on low carb than low cal - even though she said she was the same weight (give a pound or two) in each photo.
However, there were lots of variables, like a 3 year age difference & I don't think she said if her exercise plan differed.
I'm sorry I can't remember her poster name.

BIWI · 28/03/2012 12:11

Is this it?

PostBellumBugsy · 28/03/2012 12:24

No. It was deep in one of the message board bits.

greenfig · 28/03/2012 12:29

Wave @ getorf! Only 1/2 lb down this am after totm rise. Like you vnmum I'm finding it tough to keep positive. I have had weeks of losing in the week, adding a little at the w/e & I've finally shifted a bit more only to regain with totm grrr. I KNOW it will come off again but I want some RESULTS!!!!
I know I can do this as I lost 1 1/2 stone, why won't the last 1/2 stone just go away, wailSad! Well done to all of you thoughSmile

devilinside · 28/03/2012 12:31

Just posting my food for yesterday:
B: 2 x coffee with cream (I know!)
L: 4 x Tuna fish cakes with salad
D: Roast chicken with roasted butternut squash, onions and mushrooms, sprinkled with parmesan
S: Low-carb choc mousse & 2 apples

vnmum · 28/03/2012 12:37

can you remember which thread section it was in? I will have to start reading alot of threads to find it Smile. I'm just really interested in the difference and it may well spur me on as feeling down about it all today

BIWI · 28/03/2012 12:41

devilinside - 2 apples?! That's not very low carb!

lemniscate · 28/03/2012 12:45

teaandthorazine - I was inspired by your mushrooms and did my own version today (based on what I had in the fridge) - totally yummy! I think that will become a staple lunch for me as it is so quick and brilliantly tasty. I just did cream and mustard (meant to do garlic too but then forgot to peel the cloves and they're just sat there still!) and lots of pepper and then mixed some blue cheese in with the salad. Lush!

3 1/2lbs off for me in 2 days which is great except put 4lbs on while on my weekend away. Tomorrow is official weigh in day so I should hopefully weigh the same as I did before my weekend away which I'll be pleased about.

lemniscate · 28/03/2012 12:46

Pepper as in salt and pepper, not red, green or yellow pepper, in case anyone wondered :)

devilinside · 28/03/2012 16:26

devilinside - 2 apples?! That's not very low carb!

It is when you compare it to what I used to eat - chocolate, biscuits and huge mounds of pasta for dinner

Anyway 2.5lbs off this week, so I'm not complaining

BIWI · 28/03/2012 16:30

Comparatively it is lower carb - but not necessarily by that much, especially when you add in the other carbs that you have eaten.

FYI apple is 11.8g carbs per 100g

But glad you've lost some!

AngryFeet · 28/03/2012 16:34

Bugger, another meal out this weekend with a difficult low carb choice - what would you go for? www.albertstable.co.uk/#/dinner-menu/4552392976

I am finding it easy not to cheat on this diet as the 3 times that I have (even a little bit), I suffer from horrible indigestion type pain the next day :(

devilinside · 28/03/2012 16:36

I prefer not to go too low-carb anyway. I did Atkins before and whilst it was brilliant for weightloss, I found that any slight deviation and the scales would be up 5lbs overnight.

I find if I do my own version of lower carb, the weight loss is slower, but I can afford to go off the rails now and again and not do too much damage.

I have a few stone to lose, so can get away with slightly more carbs at the moment (plus I'm at the gym 3 or 4 times per week)

PostBellumBugsy · 28/03/2012 16:42

Thank you for sneaky peek at your menu for the weekend AngryFeet! All looks delicious, although the starters are a bit of a low carb nightmare. I would go for the celeriac souffle to start, then either the beef or the salmon for main (leaving the carb bits like borlotti beans) and have cheese for pudding.

teaandthorazine · 28/03/2012 16:42

AngryFeet you must live near me - Albert's Table is one of my favourite local restaurants Smile

I would go for the celeriac souffle to start, then tbh I would probably go for the beef and just ignore the borlotti beans. Then I'd have the cheese plate to finish.

(Well, if I was being good I would... the crab tart and the chocolate mousse would definitely feature if I was going to cheat!)

teaandthorazine · 28/03/2012 16:44

Snap PBB Grin

BIWI · 28/03/2012 16:44

According to Wikianswers, the average apple weighs between 250-350g.

teaandthorazine · 28/03/2012 16:48

My menu today so far:
B - babybel wrapped in parma ham (not great I know but was in a hurry!), nettle and peppermint tea
L - roasted salmon with lemon and black pepper, with leaves, avocado, cucumber and olives
D - not sure yet, Mr Tesco is on his way so will see what he brings. Probably something chicken-y
Snacks - a few macadamias and have just had a few blueberries with a small blob of Total full-fat yog
Water, water, water.

I drank a cup of coffee yesterday (with dbl cream) and felt hideous afterwards. That's what two weeks on the herbal tea will do, I guess!

OhCobblers · 28/03/2012 17:58

Bugger i'm not sure if i'm doing this right. I'm really headachey today and the thought of a ham sandwich is damn good at the moment. Pls have a look at what i've eaten today and see if i'm on the right track :-

Breakfast : Black coffee x 2
Lunch : 1 scrambled egg with 2 slices of smoked salmon and lambs lettuce very very lightly coated in a caesar dressing (!)
Snack : 1 slice smoked salmon / few slices of pork salami / small jar of olives stuffed with almonds / 4 tsp crunchy peanut butter

i have a feeling that the "snacks" is where i'm going wrong and i should have eaten a larger lunch. I really didn't have time for Breakfast though!

Thoughts?

BerylStreep · 28/03/2012 18:02

I am trying hard to get back on the straight and narrow.
Before I posted yesterday I had had a scone at a meeting, but I drank lots of water yesterday afternoon (after my MN confessional), and made butter chicken for dinner.

Today I have been more in control, although still crashed at 4.30.
B: scrambled egg
Sn: Latte Hmm
L: Roast beef, boiled egg and cucumber
mid-afternoon binge: ham, 2 cheese slices, cottage cheese & coleslaw, some macadamias, some mixed nuts. I thought it better to allow myself to eat, but to eat the right sort of stuff, IYSWIM. I think I have some serious blood sugar issues.
Lots of water this afternoon.
Will probably have moussaka and salad for dinner.

lemniscate · 28/03/2012 18:24

Beryl - for the first few days I had a lot of snacks. It calmed down loads after about day 5. Then I was away at the weekend and off-diet and I have been snacking again but noticeably less so today. I think it is something to do with your blood sugar sorting itself out. So just ride it out with low-carb snacks, don't feel guilty about those, and it should start to settle down I reckon. You might also want to think about having more at breakfast/lunch time, e.g. a massive green salad with dressing alongside the beef etc. And remember there is nothing wrong with a snack so long as it is low carb :)

lemniscate · 28/03/2012 18:28

Cobblers that all sounds fine and low carb, but you do need to have breakfast. Maybe also up your omelette/scrambled egg to 2 eggs - that makes a big difference for me. If you know breakfast will be really rushed, can you maybe get a bowl of Greek yoghurt with a few berries and chopped nuts ready the night before in the fridge so you literally just have to grab it when you get the milk/cream out for coffee and eat it while the kettle boils? Or do what I like to poncily think of as a Turkish breakfast (I remember them fondly from a holiday) - boiled egg, cheese, cucumber, olives, tomato. You can get it all ready on a plate the night before and again just eat straight form the fridge.

BerylStreep · 28/03/2012 18:32

Thanks lemniscate, I was thinking that I might try some chromium to regulate my blood sugar - I'm sure I have somewhere. Your lime syllabub sounds lovely.

BTW, what brilliant losses wispa, getorf and PBB. Well done!
(Sorry if I haven't mentioned others).

londonone · 28/03/2012 19:32

jax - -the paneer doesn't melt but it does soften. Paneer doesn't really melt though. Perhaps you could use feta instead as that melts.

QueenStromba · 28/03/2012 21:06

Angryfeet - I would order whatever you like and ask them to replace the carby bit with some extra veg. I eat out a fair bit and have always found that restaurants/pubs are willing to give you extra veg or even some veg from another dish instead of the carb. I was embarrassed the first time I asked but everyone has always been really good about so it doesn't worry me in the slightest these days. I'd probably ask them if anything in the cod, mussel and octopus stew had anything off limits in it and if it was fine ask for them to replace the potatoes with the spring greens from the first main. As for starter I'd go for the Jerusalem veloute without the croutons. Saying you have Coeliac disease is a good way to make sure they are good about leaving the bready stuff out. I'm not diagnosed coeliac but I definitely have a pretty bad wheat intolerance so I've decided to tell waiters that I am coeliac rather than hoping that the dish doesn't have wheat in it. I find waiting staff bend over backwards to be good about that sort of thing.
