The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

OP posts:
BIWI · 01/04/2012 15:53

We both ordered something different - and both our dishes were cold. So cold that I had to send them back. (DH likes his food tepid usually, so it was really, really cold if he was prepared to allow me to do that!)

The dishes came back - now messy where the food had been slid off and slid back on again - and they were only really lukewarm second time around.

I asked for spinach as a side order, and they didn't have any.

They brought us somebody else's bill. When they brought us our bill they had charged us for the spinach.

So I suppose it was sloppy service really, letting the food down. But it was disappointing enough to say we wouldn't go there again.

OhCobblers - difficult to say. The wine will have had two different impacts. First, the carbs that it contains. Obviously the amount of carbs depends on how much wine! Grin. Second, the body will use alcohol as its first source of fuel, rather than anything else you have eaten.

The coating on your satay is probably not that many carbs, but there could be all manner of other stuff in any sauce that went with it - sugar, thickeners, etc.

I'd say that it could affect your weight negatively (i.e. it might go up) by a pound or two, but that if you get straight back on the wagon and drink loads and loads of water(!) then you should be back to 'normal' in a couple of days.

But that's just a guess, really!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 16:22

Oh it's all going wrong.

For very convoluted reasons, I have a house full of sweets at the moment. So my food today has been:

breakfast: wine gums
Lunch: fizzy saucers

With snacks of chocolate brazils and (why god why?) a sausage roll. It is like I have opened the floodgates of sugary shite and I can't stop.

I have had two weekends of bingeing (the last two alcohol induced) since I started the diet in January and it hasn't really harmed things in the long run, but I do know that for a week after I am bloated and feel sluggish, and it takes ages for me to start losing weight again. Bollocks.

I need a new target to aim for. My ultimate target is 9.13 by July - I am 10.7 now so I think that is in reach certainly, but I need a midway target to keep me on the straight and narrow.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 16:25

I also mistakenly asked DP and DD to do the grocery shop as w.ell, so the house is inexplicably full of crisps, millionaires shortbread and loads of chocolate bunnies which were on special offer. The kitchen looks like Watership Down crossed with Willy Wonka. There is nothing sensible to eat.

I am tempted to go out to eat but know in this mood I will order something with chips.

doom

AngryFeet · 01/04/2012 16:30

I do know that restaurant :) I am also up for a Croydon meet. Went to alberts table last night. Food was ok but not amazing for the price. Souffle was more like an omelette in the way it was served. Beef was nice. We were a bit tipsy though and got the major giggles as it was such a formal atmosphere - lots of posh 50 somethings.

Mim with egg and bacon for breakfast today then some chicken for dinner. Am starving but nothing in the fridge so need to do a big online shop tonight. Really fancied the cauliflower pizza tonight but have been gardening all day and now shops are shut Sad

Fingers crossed for loss on Tuesday but have a feeling will stay same even though I have stayed on plan.

CointreauVersial · 01/04/2012 17:14

Grin GOML - I couldn't contemplate letting DH anywhere near the food shop; I can only imagine the scene in your kitchen at the moment.

I haven't posted for a while - been rather busy - but still sticking to the diet OK during the working week, with a little relaxing of standards at the weekend. And I did allow myself a bowl of apple crumble mid-week, as it was the first thing cooked from scratch by DS (age 12) in a cookery lesson. I had a savage cake-craving yesterday, but luckily there was nothing in the house, so I made do with a couple of squares of Lindt.

I think there's another pound gone, but I will post my weight "officially" next week. My weightloss is painfully slow, as I am really on a glide-curve to my target weight (and I'm not as disciplined as some of you); to be honest, it is more about maintaining now.

I have my mother staying next week, so I need to think of some low-carb things she will be happy to eat. I might do Butter Chicken and some spiced courgettes from my Three Sisters curry cookbook; luckily I have already converted her to the delights of cauliflower rice.

Anyway, Croydon meetup, you say........ tell me more!

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 17:46

Lol @ GOML and 'doom' :)
Let me share your doom....
Got up yest and had weigh in which was new low 10.8 woo hoo... Good all day plus loads water and bike ride, - no tea as was off to a party. Slippery slope starts at 6pm. Crisps, satay chicken, duck spring rolls. Vodka and no added sugar lemon squash (include the water - excellent drink) then wads drunk on arrival at party, didn't have anything at buffet and then 2 small lamb samosas at 1am!
This morning : rasher bacon, fried egg, 1 slice toast
Lunch: BBQ wrap at KFC!!!! Evil doom but soooo nice
Drinking as much water as poss, dinner shall be good
So damage done - Go directly to jail do not pass go, pay my taxes £200 or parking fine £25?

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 17:47

Also wtf does it say 'momsnet' on the page header!!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 17:55

I think momsnet is an April Fool thang.

DP has just said 'let's go to Pizza Express'. Hmm

Now I have eaten at Pizza Express when on this diet and it is FINE - can have salad nicoise and it is all very wonderfully low carb and healthy if I don't eat the bread and dressing, and just have san pellegrino to drink.

But all I can think of is pizza veneziana and bastarding banoffee pie.

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 18:38

Mmm don't ask me for support I would dive head first into a calzone and said banoffee.....
Hangovers are really bad news for this diet, I'm thinking about naan bread, pizza, cake, ice cream, Doritos and those are like the worst things ever...arrgh!

HillyWallaby · 01/04/2012 19:22

It's awful when you cheat and it doesn't taste good, though.

Hahaha BIWI ain't that the truth? There is nothing more demoralising/infuriating than knowing that you've blown your ketosis on some cake that turned out to be shite but you couldn't leave it alone anyway. Sad

QueenStromba · 01/04/2012 20:38

Ooh. I meant to say earlier that I made a discovery this weekend - olives are basically zero carb :)

OP posts:
lemniscate · 01/04/2012 20:50

Olives are totally lush. At the moment, I particularly have a pash for the ones stuffed with almonds which they had everywhere in Morocco but I might need to schlep into Brighton to some fancy deli to get some here.

DS's birthday party went well. I had shepherds pie for lunch (DH did a special one with celeriac mash all for me!) so wasn't too hungry. Ate a couple of cocktail sausages, drank lots of water and then tucked into my one piece of cake and cuppa after everyone had gone home. I allowed myself this cheat - I spent 3 evenings on that cake, and I was bloody amazed with it myself, and it is my favourite chocolate cake recipe in the world. And then when I handed a load out to the parents they were cooing over it This was not a disappointing cheat :o

Am now eating ham, beef, horseradish and lots of green stuff before sniggling down with DH to watch Homeland.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 21:23

My latest discovery is macadamia nuts.

What the hell do I know, I have just eaten pizza. What a weekend.

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 21:29

Lol again at getorf - f**k it!!
I have just eaten tapas
Restart tomorrow most likely 2lbs up from this morning - will weigh and post in the morn
(Viennese whirls in the cupboard too)
:)

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 22:13

In my defence I have my period at the moment, and it is strangely heavy and very uncomfortable. Plus y kidney is playing up for the first time in ages so am feeling a bit sorry for myself.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 01/04/2012 22:13

I am not weighing myself ever again.

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 22:24

Don't tell me you have weighed? You must do that unless you just want to assess damage. I have no defence (period due weds) other than hangover and just being crap. 10.7 will never be in my sight, I just mess around 10.9 for weeks.
Let the pork see the pie

Creamtea1 · 01/04/2012 22:31

Back a few messages - how about mid way target of 10.3 by first may bank holiday? That's a bit less than 1lb a week. Then could have 10.1 by end may which then leaves 1 month till goal weight in July. I can do same as 1lb heavier than you - have a hol first week in June and again at end of July

butterflyexperience · 02/04/2012 07:48

I'm back Smile

Had a few kids birthday parties last week and I couldn't stay away from the party food and cake!
Result one big fat tummy.

Anyway interesting to see how a few of you do cheat and it's ok as part of life.
I was really beating myself up before but now realise I will have cheats and it's ok and not to feel too guilty and throw the diet away.

So todays diet will be:
Green tea
Omlette with mushrooms cherry tomatoes and 1 smoked mackerel
Green tea
Tuna egg salad
Green tea
Tandoori chicken with veg

Have also walked dog for 25 mins and if I'm feeling brave I'll shred

Quick question can I have yogurt?

QueenStromba · 02/04/2012 08:19

What plan are you on Butterfly? If you're on Atkins or another carb counting regime then you can have it as long as you fit it into your daily carbs. It's also fine on Dukan. Not sure about IPD but I imagine it would be fine too. Really you want to go for full fat Greek Yoghurt.

OP posts:
Creamtea1 · 02/04/2012 08:58

Ok have weighed- 2lbs up since yesterday morning. One of which has gone on since 7pm last night (dinner I guess?) so damage exactly as predicted. Ultra strict again this week to undo - totm due weds.

PostBellumBugsy · 02/04/2012 10:23

Tsk, tsk, tsk! Lots of badness this weekend - what happened to you all?

I want to hear reports of being seriously back on the wagon this week - particularly given it is Easter coming up & we all know that means bloody chocolate eggs all over the place, along with simnel cake & just cake generally & bloody roast potatoes tempting us with their crispy carb laden yumminess.

I had a weekend of virtuous goodness & hard labour - as I sprung clean the house & did a load of work in the garden. I'm down 2lb - but won't count it until I weigh on Weds, as it may just be water.

So, break out the ham, cheese, eggs & leafy greens & remember that sweets, cake & pizza are the devil's work!!!! Grin

teaandthorazine · 02/04/2012 10:46

Thankfully ds is in Italy for Easter weekend and the week after so I can keep the place relatively chocolate-free! I say thankfully, obviously I'll be missing him like mad but ykwim!

Definitely back on the wagon now - plenty of water and some Parma ham/Philly rolls for breakfast, along with peppermint tea. Lunch yesterday was smoked salmon with caperberries and horseradish cream, followed by chicken Caesar. No booze and I won't be drinking all week as I have an assignment to finish for my MSc.

Am going to be a very good girl PBB, honest! Am contemplating making celeriac dauphinoise tonight with some sausages and green veg.

encyclogirl · 02/04/2012 12:54

Whoops posted this on the wrong thread!

Hi guys, remember me? I was half-arsing around on a low to medium carb plan a few months ago. Well guess what? That didn't work. I'm back cap in hand looking to start again. Weighing in at 10' 12 this morning, the heaviest I've been in a long time.

I need to do this once and for all.

Had two hard boiled eggs for brekkie. T'was n't bad really. I just need to get past not being able to have porridge. Bread I can live without, same goes for pasta, potatoes, rice, noodles and couscous.

The junk element, particularly crisps is a challenge, but I'm equal to that too.

I just have to fecking do this don't I?

lemniscate · 02/04/2012 13:06

encyclogirl - you could try reading Idiot Proof Diet - they allow a couple of bowls of porridge a week after the initial hardcore weeks.
