Is there a slimming world support thread? If not, shall we start one? :)

That's it really. Ive had a good look around the threads here and can find lots of threads with questions about slimming world, but no threads where we can regularly post questions, share info, weight gain weightloss etc.

If I've missed a thread that covers the above, please guide me in the right direction Grin

If you know not of such a thread, would you like to join me on this weight loss journey?

Thanks for reading!

Hi! I just posted a similar thread Smile I'll copy and paste what I wrote..

I have just started doing Slimming World, I have three stone to lose ideally.

I am doing it from home, and I'm finding it a little bit tricky to get my head around. Could somebody let me know if I've done ok today? I am doing all green days, as I'm vegetarian.

Breakfast: Two slices Weight Watchers bread with marmite. (HEX B and marmite is free)

Lunch: Baked Potato with baked beans and a babybel. (Babybel HEX A and potato and beans are free, right?)

Tea: Tofu in Nando's marinade with dry fried mushrooms and green beans with 40g of feta. Tofu is free, and the feta and the marinade are about 6 syns from my estimation.

Can somebody tell me if this sounds ok please?

I'm hoping it will work, I know a lot of people who have had lots of success, but I can't believe it, it seems so easy.

Hi mimi!

Looks right to me. I'm doing extra easy, going to a group every Thursday- weigh in tommorow.

When do you weigh in and how long have you been doing it?

OP posts:
morecoffeepleaseholdthecake · 21/03/2012 17:48

Oh, just noticed you had 1 baby bel with your lunch.could you have had more?

OP posts:
mimisays · 21/03/2012 18:12

I have just started today! I weigh 12 stone 9 at the moment, I'd like to be around 9 stone 7..

I am going to be weighing in on Fridays, but not this week as I only started today.

Do you think I could have had another? Because I was having feta with my tea I held off a bit, I just can't get my head around being able to eat so much when trying to lose weight if you know what I mean?

How are you finding it so far?

morecoffeepleaseholdthecake · 21/03/2012 18:28

Just checked the book and it says 2 original baby bel or 3 light as a healthy extra a. So as you have counted your syns for the feta I would say another is fine (i think!) Grin

I'm finding it ok. I have real sugar addiction though so getting over that has been tough, but worth it.

I have had 2 weigh ons so far. Lost 3.5 lbs first week and 1.5lbs second week. Hoping for 2lbs tommorow to make half a stone!

I want to loose 3 and half stone, with an aim of 2 and half by June in time for my sunny holiday :)

I started doing slimming world last year and loved it, I was always stuffing my face and never went hungry. I lost about a stone and a half over a 3 month period on the extra easy plan, then I fell pregnant Grin

I've actually still followed aspects of the diet throughout my pregnancy and plan to start doing it properly again as soon as I've had my baby, I think its a diet that i could follow easily whilst breastfeeding because of the volume of food that you are allowed to eat Grin

Best of luck with everything and enjoy!!

upahill · 21/03/2012 18:53

I would like to ask a question about slimming world.

I work shifts and don't have a regular shift patten. I could work 6 Tuesdays in a row and then be off for two Tuesdays (or the other way round) How would that fit in with meetings. Would I end up paying a lot of money for meetings I can't go to?

Also I am a veggie. Would SW work for me?

PleaseLeaveVictor · 21/03/2012 18:55

I started 2 weeks ago on extra easy and have lost 8.5lb so far.

Starting weight was 13st 3lb and I want to lose around 3 stones all together (thanks ds3)

I am finding the diet ok so far although am starting to get bored and the huge amount of fruit I am eating and the fresh meat is costing me a bit.

My class is on a Saturday, my downfall will be lack of excersize so I am trying to make some effort with walking more and getting a work out dvd can't go to Zumba or anything as I don't have any babysitters.

Smile
Cae1985 · 21/03/2012 19:02

upahill you wouldn't have to pay extra because you work shifts, you just tell them this when you join. Also there is a green plan you can follow that us mainly for veggies or people that prefer not to eat a lot if meat. Wink

MotherMucca · 21/03/2012 19:07

Hello, I'm doing SW but my head isn't in gear. I do really want to lose weight, but I seem to be unable to focus and do it properly. I've done it before and I know it works. Ggrrrrr!

mimisays, I am vegetarian too, I think SW is fab for us! I think you could have the 40g feta as another HEX A - you can have one or two HEX A and B. I think.

Good luck everyone! Smile

MotherMucca · 21/03/2012 19:18

upahill SW is excellent for veggies! I make loads of delicious meals using lentils, pulses, pasta, rice, grains etc. Provided you like those types of food, the world is your lobster aubergine.

morecoffeepleaseholdthecake · 21/03/2012 19:51

Hi everyone and welcome! :)

Slimming world is fab for veggies, and the extra healthy extras are fab :)

I work shifts and if you let them know when you sign up they shouldn't charge you. Also you can go to different groups on other days if you can't make your usual one.

OP posts:
upahill · 21/03/2012 20:01

Ok I'm in.

Next Tuesday I will waddle to a SW class and get signed up.

What can I expect to happen. I've never been to a slimming club and feel abit intimadated!!

MotherMucca · 21/03/2012 20:18

upahill, generally speaking, you would probably expect it to go a little bit like this:

  • Stumble into room, someone will spot you as a noob, and direct you to 'newbies table'
  • you'll be asked to fill in your personal details, including GP's and there will be a box to tick if you're a shift worker
  • your consultant will come over and briefly go through the plan with you and all the others
  • you'll be weighed in complete privacy, and pay your dues
  • you will sit in the circle with the other SW'ers, for 'Image Therapy' (IT usually involves the consultant going through losses/gains, and give opportunity to ask for advice, tips or questions about plan). In my experience, it will be either excruciatingly boring, or helpful and motivating - here's hoping your consultant is a goodun.

Really try not to be anxious or freaked out about your first go! Everyone has been there at least once before and most will be friendly and welcoming.

I'll bet I've x-posted with half of MN now Grin

Good luck!

FairhairedandFrustrated · 21/03/2012 20:20

There is a SW support thread :)

here

It's been going quite a while and the support is brilliant! Why don't you all pop over & introduce yourselves?

morecoffeepleaseholdthecake · 21/03/2012 20:21

You will have to fill in a registration form. The the leader will go through the plan with you and any other new people. Then you pay and weigh. They don't tell everyone your weight don't worry! :) After everyone's weighed, everyone has a chat about how they've got on, any tips etc.that's it! Good luck and let us know how you get on! :)

Hi everyone Smile

Nice to see that there are other vegetarians doing it too.

I'm finding it all a bit confusing still - is it right that on Green days you get 2 of each healthy extra? So two A and two B?

I think I've been getting confused.

Food today -

Breakfast - Two slices weight watchers toast (HEX) with marmite.
Green tea & some blueberries.

Lunch - A salad of rocket, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and spring onion, with 28g of cheddar (HEX) and a tablespoon of reduced fat coleslaw. (3.5 syns ish I think)

Not sure what I'm doing for tea. I might have another salad, with quorn fillets perhaps. This warm weather is making me enthusiastic about eating salad, for once!

What is everybody else having today? If somebody could confirm for me about the healthy extras that would be great Smile

Chocolategirl3 · 22/03/2012 14:19

Hi I started 2 weeks ago, I lost 6lbs in my first week ( mainly due to emotional stress, as Dad has been in hospital) was absolutely perfect in my second week , only used 55 syns and gained half a pound! really miffed, i really thought i was going to see a 3lb loss at least. I know its only half a pound but it was a bit of a shocker considering i was so good Sad

Hoping that the weight loss will show in next wednesdays weigh in, going to get on the Just Dance over the weekend to help me along.

MotherMucca · 22/03/2012 16:21

mimi - I've checked the book. You can have 1 or 2 B's and 2 A's.

I'm having a huge salad and tabbouleh stuffed peppers. Mmmmmmm.

Chocolate, hope your dad is ok? Your little gain must be so disappointing, but there must be an explanation. Are you due on? I bet you'll have a good loss next week Smile

Keep on keeping on SWer's!

mimisays · 22/03/2012 16:45

Ah thanks mother that's brilliant because I really love cheese. Mmm the stuffed peppers sound delicious. I decided to have another salad, and some pan fried quorn fillets (with 1cal spray) with another 50g of reduced fat coleslaw. Really yummy. I feel a lot more happy to eat salad when it's warm Grin

chocolate hope you're Dad is ok. Perhaps a little bit of the weight you lost was stress related and it's just evening itself back out? It's still a great loss!

MotherMucca · 22/03/2012 17:17

I love cheese too. Mmmm... Cheese.
I'm really loving salads at the moment, as well.
Another thing I've found helpful, is to make a baked omelette/crust less quiche if you will. Cut into chunks and it's great with a salad or if you've got a savoury craving and need something ready NOW!

Chocolategirl3 · 22/03/2012 23:33

Hi, Dad on the mend and out of hospital so stress levels should decrease now, and hopefully the weight will too. Not pigged out, keeping on track, determined to have a bikini body (or as near as) for wit holiday.

Mimi- I think you are right re the stress related weight loss as i have never lost 6 lbs in one go before ever, in the past when i tried Sw i would always lose at the max 3lbs

MissGreatBritain · 23/03/2012 10:00

Hi all - can I join you? I've been putting off starting Slimming World again because I can't find my books (any excuse I know!). Can't get to a group for another fortnight, but have decided to have a crack at it on my own between now and then.

I need to lose a stone to have a BMI of below 25, so that's my initial target. Am doing Red today; have had grilled bacon and poached eggs for breakfast, and plan to have ham salad for lunch.

Could anyone help me out with a couple of queries though? Did mostly Green days before, so can't remember quite as much about Red.

  1. Is there any fruit/veg you can't eat on a Red day?
  2. How much skimmed milk is a Healthy Extra?
  3. Can I eat tinned salmon and tuna?

Thanks for anyone who can offer any help - and good luck to everyone Smile.

Hi MissGreatBritain
I started this thread on Wednesday when looking for some SW support. FairhairedandFrustrated up thread somewhere has pointed me in the direction of the The Big Fat List and the Days of Doom (TM) Part VII - Slipping Sylphlike Towards Summer thread which I've just looked in on and theres some great advice, I've just posted on there, why don't you come over and have a look (they seem to know everything there is to know about SW and are happy to answer questions to us new comers :) )

I will check up on your questions and get back to you tommorow if thats ok :)

Hi everyone, just joined the forum

Ive been following sw for over a year and so far ive lost 2 stone. Got another 12lbs to go...

Ive found a lot of great slimming world recipes here www.kettlebellforum.co.uk/Forum-Your-Recipes

Ive found that its just become a way of life now. I much prefer by far sw friendly meals now... Wish the hubby did though as its a pain in the backside cooking seperate meals every night! Lol x
