Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Run day and weather is sooo horrid. Hope it calms a bit before 8pm!

BartletForAmerica · 04/04/2012 10:40

Week 3 Run 2 done this morning and I enjoyed it! Not had that happen before!

trice · 04/04/2012 11:35

I just signed up for a months intensive crossfit. Unfortunately this morning I can barely walk let alone run. I might have to give running a short break. My long term plan is to do two running days and one gym day per week.

Thanks for inspiring me. I am becoming a doer rather than a watcher and it feels great.

slotrightin · 04/04/2012 12:21

So far have only managed W1 R1 Blush, going to start properly next Monday, get Easter out of the way and go all out then

elvisaintdead · 04/04/2012 16:03

I am training for a 5k run which is in 6 weeks. At the moment I am running 1m, walking 2m 4 times a week, cycling for an hour a day and doing a weight programme twice a week. I have a decent level of fitness but just REALLY bad at running. Hopefully it will come i time for the race - only started (the running part) this week so it's early days...

rusmum · 04/04/2012 17:58

Week8 r3 disaster!! Stopped twice for 30 secs or do in first half and walked last 4 mins! ???? Sad just complete lack of energy . will try again tomorrow!

OrmIrian · 04/04/2012 21:11

Week 5 run 3....

Arsebuckets but that was hard! Shock I did it but my legs, lungs and heart hate me....

Cheeseandbiscuits · 04/04/2012 21:58

Right week 2 run 3 done. I found it so hard but I completed it. I then did a circuits class after, I'm paying for my foolishness now.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/04/2012 19:09

elvisaintdead have a look at the nhs podcasts and perhaps start at week 3 and then you'll complete it in time for your run!

Sorry some are finding it hard but I think some runs are just harder and it doesn't seem to be related to how you feel before you go out either! My last runs were 5.25k in 38 mins, only managing 17 mins plus another 5 after a walk, 4.66k in 30 mins and 5.20k in 39 mins but of that only 30min was running so it is quite variable although a generally improvement.

rusmum · 05/04/2012 21:30

Shall I redo w8 r 3 or just start w9 tomorrow?

5ofus · 06/04/2012 10:17

Hi. Mind if I join? My previous MN running thread has gone very quiet and I need constant chatter to keep me going!

I've been doing c25k for about 12 weeks. Taken it very slowly as I was really on the couch when I started. I'm up to week 8 and have been running three times a week.. I'm finding I'm running most of it but still need a short walk in the middle to catch my breath.

I've just signed up for my first 5k in a couple of weeks so will be upping the distance over the next few weeks.

cece · 06/04/2012 13:12

hello 5ofus
which did you do rusmum?

My knee is still hurting so I did a quick 20 min run today. Knee not too bad but still twingeing a bit. Felt quite please as covered 2.3 miles in the 30 mins.

rusmum · 06/04/2012 15:12

Managed runs 1 and 2 of week 8 but not run 3!!! Had 2 rest walks and walked last 4 mins!

yehudiwho · 06/04/2012 15:37

week8 run 1 under my belt!! ran for full 28 mins which came to 2.67 miles on runkeeper. 28 minutes bloody hell- as partner is off work as well next week intend to go out every other day and graduate by a week on wed!

BartletForAmerica · 06/04/2012 21:07

Week 3 Run 3 completed this afternoon!

rusmum · 06/04/2012 21:28

Week9 run 1 done . Surgery Tuesday. Then week off. No exercise allowed. Tempted to run sun and mon to finish lol Grin

rusmum · 06/04/2012 21:46

Oh covered 3.5 miles in the 38 minutes that's 5.6k . Next time will just measure the 30 min run so know how far I get in this bit without the walks x

littledolly · 06/04/2012 22:13

Hi all. Am totally new to all this & have just completed run 3 of week 1. I've wanted to be a 'runner' for years now, so am hoping this is really the start of it. Was pretty fit before having DD 4.5 yrs ago & have gone through phases with exercise ever since.

Started Weighwatchers at Christmas & have lost a stone, with about another 1.5 stone to go. Running def does not come naturally to me but I've got on OK this wk - had been walking about 3 miles 3-4 times a week for a while which may have helped.

Just wondering how you all track what distance you've covered? I'm running the same course every time at the minute as its a track alongside a river, which I think is better than running on concrete or Tarmac??

rusmum · 06/04/2012 22:16

I have an app run meter

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2012 07:58

Hi littledolly, I have an app on my phone called run keeper which track distance and time youve run. It definitely easier not to run on Tarmac if it's an even surface. I'm so glad it's light in the evenings so I can run in the forest now [busmile]

Well done rusmum that's a great distance! It is nice to know how far you've actually run, I've done it a couple of times when runkeeper says I've covered 21k in my warm up walk so I've had to cancel activity!

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2012 08:41

Hi.
I've posted on here before saying I was going to start this and then never did! Blush
I have just downloaded a c25k app on my blackberry and am hoping to start, well I was gonna say monday, but I think it better be today.
I have to get some running shoes and a sports bra first I think.

I'm doing this because I really need to lose some weight. I have extra everywhere, mid-section, face, arms, bum, legs. I have had enough of people asking me if I am pregnant and offering me their seats on the bus (ok, maybe not completely fed up with that one Wink Grin).
I actually do look pregnant. My stomach starts really high, just under my bust and juts out infront of me like a pregnant belly Blush

Any tips and support would be really helpful and greatly appreciated

JennyPiccolo · 07/04/2012 08:46

Dropped off the radar for a couple of weeks cos I was ill then away on holiday so that's me just caught up with things. On week 6, completed run 2 last night.

It's taken me about 12 weeks to get to week 6!

BartletForAmerica · 07/04/2012 12:51

Week 4 Run 1 done this morning. Oh, that was hard work but I managed!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 07/04/2012 15:28

Week 3 run 1 done, didn't find it too hideous - managed a 15min cross train after. Done in now

SilveryMoon · 07/04/2012 17:14

So I have my running shoes and sports bra and I am ready to go when dp gets in from work.

Bit worried about whether or not I'll stick with it and whether I'll be able to change my eating habits in order to lose 4 stone (to start)
