I broke down and put sugar in my coffee today...I just couldn't drink it black (it's the cheap nasty kind) and we were out of creamer. :( After I pick DS up from preschool I'm off to buy better coffee!

For breakfast I had the coffee and cheese, peanut butter and diet Coke again. I know I should be a little more balanced in the morning but I just can't find the time! Argh.

I just made myself a lunch of scrambled eggs with asparagus, onion, mushroom and pepper stirred in, and a slice of provolone melted on top. Was yummy!

I have been trying to mostly have just have big salads at night...I seem to feel better if I eat more lightly for supper.

flipflopflap · 06/03/2012 19:50

Sneaked a poppadum into tonights curry, naughty but the packet said 4.5 carbs and I didn't have much for lunch, so ot should be in today's allowance. It was lovely to have something different with my curry- I've been having it on its own.

No, I know. :) If I use the fake-sugar creamer it's only a few grams of carbs.

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2012 23:38

Well, the ruby murray was very tasty, possibly a bit too much cinnamon in the butter chicken, but there were clean plates all round.

I thought Splenda wasn't as "artificial" as aspartame, but made from sucralose (plant-derived). Am I kidding myself?

QueenStromba · 07/03/2012 00:22

You're thinking of stevia although splenda isn't as bad as aspartame.

Hi Guys, well my weekend and the last few days have been a disaster, a combination of staying with family for the weekend and not wanting to be fussy and then long shifts at work where I ended up grabbing anything I can.

I have just weighed myself and I am back to where I started, (12.9 Blush) my period is due so it might be slightly high but I am pretty much starting from scratch.

Rather than wait for Monday to start again I am starting today. I find Mon-Thur I am brilliant and then I feel I deserve pizza/wine on Friday which slides into Saturday and by Monday I am back to the start. Any tips to avoid this?

Off to make some eggs.....

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 07/03/2012 08:42

hi all, I am low carbing again, have just read custys carbfree - but it says no nuts. Can you say why? I am doing neris and india (again) and it allows natural nuts...

BIWI · 07/03/2012 09:54

kandinsky - only way to avoid this is to not buy them! Sounds obvious/trivial but (based on bitter experience) it is the truth!

Jax - welcome! Nuts to be avoided unless you can restrict yourself to a very small amount. Too easy to overdo it and then you've gone way over your carb limit. And if you're going to eat salted nuts, there's the salt issue as well.

I am almost 9lbs down this morning, and have worked out that I have achieved 26% of my target loss. Somehow that sounds better than 9lbs!

BIWI · 07/03/2012 09:58

Oh dear. Apologies for the number of ! in that last post .

flipflopflap · 07/03/2012 10:02

I've eaten nuts pretty much every day on induction and have had a good loss, and stayed in Ketosis. I think as long as you count them in your daily carbs you should be fine.

BIWI · 07/03/2012 10:54

But that's the point, fff - unless you count them, it's really easy to overeat and therefore eat too many carbs.

And - as a gentle reminder Grin - your carbs in induction are supposed to be coming from veg/salad stuff ...

GlitterKitty · 07/03/2012 13:08

Hello!

Couldnt find a Pig to Twig thread, so is it ok to join you lot? Take it you are doing a variety of different low-carb diets?

I started P2T last Thurs, weighed yesterday (day 6) and had lost 6.5lbs. I am a total convert to the low carb idea now Grin, after years of failing on WW and the like.

I do wish I had not discovered marscapone, splenda & vanilla essence though- not bying that for a while- was best thing I have ever eaten Grin.

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2012 13:16

Don't worry BIWI, I quite like an exclamation mark! Well done on your sterling progress, too!!!

Jax - regarding nuts - almonds are what you should be eating. The highest protein to carb ratio of all nuts, I believe.

Hi Glitterkitty, yes, there are all sorts of low-carbers on this thread, which makes it quite interesting. I also started with Pig to Twig, as it seemed to fit more into a family-cooking lifestyle for me (and I heart India Knight).

Anyway, I am currently munching on smoked salmon pate with veggie sticks. Most delicious it is too.

vnmum · 07/03/2012 13:42

great loss BIWI

I lost 1.25lb this morning so pleased with that after the hidden carbs in Harvester. Got beasted at the gym again this morning and I am now battling carb cravings, might make a MIM to stave them off or am debating strawberries and double cream (am following Ongoing Weight Loss now) but that would mean a trip to tesco to buy them and that would mean being in the same shop as cake.

I don't even have any dark chocolate left to make me think I'm having carbs.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 07/03/2012 13:47

9lbs id great BIWI - well done.

GlitterKitty · 07/03/2012 13:51

Has anyone tried any low carb or carbless flour substitutes? I havent done this yet- also low carb pasta etc- bit worried that it might somehow derail me...

Interested to hear nut discussions. I have been eating nuts but I can see how it could get out of hand- going to buy nuts I like less now I think.

Just bought some lovely new herbal teas (0.3g carb per bag)- cherry & cinnamon, and blackberry, ginsing & vanilla. They really help the 'sweet' cravings for me, dont want to get back on the marscapone!

flipflopflap · 07/03/2012 16:13

Yes almonds are the best nuts if you're going to eat them, I'm veggie so it's a good source of protein for me, I measure them out if I'm eating them though as otherwise I'd devour the whole bag! I get the Wasabi ones from Sainsburys and I've never once missed crisps.

Looks like the medication I was taking is out of my system and the appetite suppression is working for me again. I've only just eaten lunch despite it being a highly anticipated minted lamb chop from the butcher. It was bloody delicious with some kale fried in bacon fat and some courgette. I'm wondering if I'm going to have any appetite for the yummy smelling beef and red wine stew in the slow cooker.

FreeButtonBee · 07/03/2012 22:23

Had a bit of a lapse at lunchtime - was 2pm, no breakfast and about to go to hospital appointment (fertility issues :-( ) so grabbed a chorizo roll. Hopefully it won't derail me too much - i haven't craved carbs this evening or anything so that's a plus. Back on track this evening with kale, bacon and cheese bake which was v delicious. Had hot choc made with cream and cocoa for a pud. Am now off to bed, cycling in to work onthe morning - provided t's not raining!
