Well done Belina looks like you made some good choices and enjoyed yourself. It's much better than regretting your night out Smile.

It has been very quiet here over the last couple of days. I do hope that's because everyone is busy getting out and about, rather than running out of steam and giving up?

Five more weeks til Easter weekend. I've stuck to diet this week but don't 'feel' like I've lost. I did buy some more clothes yesterday though, there are some great sales on at the moment. I found a pair of jeans for £2!! But they were in the size I've just come down from so too big for me Grin.

TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 12:24

March is when the weight loss turns into a slog - not lost enough to really feel better. Lost enough that nothing quite fits any more and the new food habits are not fully formed.

Hang in there ladies - it WILL work.

Fairenuff · 04/03/2012 13:31

I agree TP it seems like a long time, definately the longest I've ever stuck to a 'diet'. Some of my habits are changing, particularly in terms of what/when/how much I eat.

I still have to force myself to exercise though. Am hoping I will get out more when it's warmer. Evening strolls along the seafront instead of sitting indoors. The difference now is that I will be able to resist the chips and icecream and just enjoy the activity for what it is, instead of thinking I need to eat or drink as well.

I have had a look back at my journey so far, to try and help stay on track. I have realised that small losses, maintaining, or even small gains are all ok in the big picture. Overall, I am heading in the right direction, I just have to remind myself that it's a long journey.

Week Loss Gain Total
1 5 5
2 1 6
3 3.5 9.5
4 0.5 10
5 1 11
6 3.5 14.5
7 1.5 16
8

Anyone else want to share their 'journey so far' experiences. We can all learn from each other. I have found so much help and support here, so thanks to you all x

Fairenuff · 04/03/2012 13:36

Oh, those three figures in each line should be (1)week, (2)loss, (3)total because so far no gains. It's come out different to how I posted Confused Grin.

TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 13:38

Fairenuff
16 pounds is FANTASTIC
especially as you are doing it by changing the habits.
Exercise
it will get easier as you get lighter.
Walking is great, just remember to walk a teeny bit faster than is comfortable and then you will really start to burn calories :-)

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 14:27

Hi all,

Not been here for a few days. Dh has been ill so been doing alot of running around and stressing out. :( Not a great week but I think it could have been a lot worse.

Sounds like everyone is doing really well! :)

TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 14:51

(((Sparky)))
Hope you've managed to avoid snacking to cope with stress.
I know that sounds facile but its REALLY important that you separate food from emotional ups and downs

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 15:25

Thanks TP

Iv'e not been too bad, just caved into the bread and the wine. Blush

Tbh Iv'e been so busy I haven't had time to think about snacks. I have made sure I have had 3 meals a day so hopefully that helped, bit not expecting a loss this week due to the stupid bread and wine ! Its one of those things I wish I could just not buy, like junk, but I have to for ds and dh so its always there!

Dh is more or less better so hopefully I can relax a bit more this week and make more of a effort with thinking through meals.

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 15:33

DH and DS DO NOT NEED the junk
they are just accustomed to it

IF they are skinnymalinks there are ways to meet their calorie need without junk
dried fruit, fresh fruit, nuts, eggs, cheese, couscous, jacket potatoes, milk

so you do not need to have sugar (cakes, biscuits, sweets)
or salt (crisps, processed food)
or fat (any ready meal, pastry, fried food etc)
in the house

which makes it easier for you to be strong too

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 16:16

I don't buy junk any more TP . In fact i don't buy any of that stuff any more.

I was talking about bread. Its my down fall but even if dh could do without, ds certainly needs some in his diet! Going to have to start freezing it again I think!

OP posts:
SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 16:17

Skinnymalinks Grin

Love this word! It describes them both perfectly!

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 16:21

but do they really need bread? or at least white bread?
switch to granary malted or wholemeal
I only ever have a single slice sandwich for lunch

coping strategies ....
and WELL done on weaning you all off the junk - that was admittedly the bit I found easy

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 16:27

I buy wholemeal usually anyway. I just need a few days without it and I'll be fine. Its just that first few days.... Confused

Junk is easy. You don't buy it, you can't eat it! Ds has a few treats in the week but I only ever get him a small packet so there is nothing left over!

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 04/03/2012 17:28

Nuts are expensive aren't they. Last time I looked I think they were about £1 per 100g. But then a single packet of crisps is about 60p per 40g I think but much cheaper to buy in bulk. I love nuts, sometimes I chop a few walnuts and add them to a mixed salad. Or I would add pine nuts, they're delicious. Or sunflower seeds. I can live off salad in the summer, it's lovely with a little grilled chicken or fish and perhaps just a couple of baby new potatoes. I find the warmer months are just naturally much easier.

The down side is alcohol. A glass of wine on a summer's evening is delightful but I have found in the past that I don't just have one or two, I usually have more than I should and it has stopped me from being able to lose weight. So now I hardly drink at all. That was another habit which was difficult to break at first, but over the last eight weeks I have only had four glasses of wine, and I really don't miss it Smile.

BelinaTheChicken · 04/03/2012 18:00

I always have bread frozen otherwise it's just too easy to grab a slice. If itsfrozen I have to toast it as well and I can never be bothered to get the toaster out

I have been making vats of soup and keeping a tub in the fridge, so if I'm hungry I can just grab a mug.

Fairenuff that's brilliant loss, well done. And hope your DH is better now Sparky

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 18:33

Yes he's getting there thanks Belina . It was his back :(

Does anyone know how Faz is getting on?

Fairenuff Your right about the summer being easier. I always find it easier when its sunny, always fancy a salad, never anything heavy and fattening!

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 04/03/2012 19:01

TP I meant to say earlier, jacket potato? Is that a high calorie choice? Or does it depend on what you have on it. I thought they were about 100 calories per 100g? So a small jacket with tuna or low sugar baked beans or salad, I thought would be ok. I had one yesterday with veg and a little chicken.

TalkinPeace2 · 04/03/2012 19:03

sorry - my list was of GOOD things
jacket spuds are great - spuds are THE miracle food that you can live on if there is nothing else
just don't fry them or coat them in butter :-)

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 19:03

Fairenuff Jacket pots

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 04/03/2012 19:20

TP I did realise they were healthy options but thought you meant high calorie because I know that nuts have lots of fat and dried fruit lots of sugar, but I see what you mean now, thanks Smile.

Thanks also for the link Sparky that's a great site. I have added it to my favorites. Haven't head anything from Faz for a while. I expect she is still nursing her poorly little boy. Hope you're ok Faz, give us a shout if you can Smile.

mrspepperpotty · 04/03/2012 21:31

Hello all, good to see it's it's been livelier here today Smile

Fairenuff your loss diary is brilliant, you must be so pleased. I do feel that my eating habits have changed in that I'm completely out of the habit of eating chocolate, crisps etc and don't crave them any more. I still find it difficult to restrain my portion sizes (eg pasta) though.

Sparky, about the bread thing, is there a particular filling you like? If so, can you think of a filling that DS and DH like but you don't (eg marmite in this house)? Then if you don't buy your normal filling, that might stop you eating the bread too?? However, if you eat it with just marg this advice is useless!

Have a good week everyone. Putyourhaton, are you starting your new job? Good luck!

BelinaTheChicken · 05/03/2012 08:17

OMG!!! I have lost 5pm this week!!!!

I have no idea how that is even possible. I don acualy have that much weight to lose, just wanted to get the baby weight of, and now I only have 9pm to go to my goal weight, hurrah!

BelinaTheChicken · 05/03/2012 08:44

Good grief, so many typos I CBA to sort them

SpankyMcSparrow · 05/03/2012 12:57

Good day here so far.

Porridge for breakfast, followed by a long walk with the pony who walks stupidly fast considering he has stumpy legs , followed by a deep clean of my house.

Have meal planned for the week, going to have some soup for lunch and then off to do the shopping.

Hope everyone is doing well, enjoy the sunshine!
