Good idea Sparky. I was going to suggest pjs Smile.

Without a doubt, the hardest part of dieting is keeping motivated. Especially when it doesn't come off as fast as you'd like. But remember, this is the hardest part. The actual healthy eating and exercise is the easy bit really. Just get right back on it and you will see a loss next week Smile.

TalkinPeace2 · 27/02/2012 17:50

A little thing - work out how much you have lost since New year.
Put a strong carrier bag on the scales and fill it with tins to match the amount you've lost
carry it up and down the stairs a few times
now do the same with how much you have yet to lose in another bag
carry them BOTH up the stairs once
now put both bags down and walk up the stairs
and realise how WONDERFUL you will feel when the weight is no longer permanently damaging your knee and hip joints

mrspepperpotty · 27/02/2012 20:34

Well done on the weight loss Fairenuff and Belina and well done for maintaining Sparky - better than a gain!

Agree with fairenuff that the hardest part of dieting is staying motivated. That's why this thread is good! When we fall off the wagon, we don't use it as an excuse to give up completely, we get on here and pick up some inspiration and advice to carry on Smile

BelinaTheChicken · 27/02/2012 21:52

Vicky I'm studying basic counselling skills, trying to ease myself back into study as I haven't done anything since the DC were born, and feel like it's about time I sorted out a career! Have a psychology degree and want to eventually train as a counselling psychologist.

And well done for keeping off the bread. I haven't had any today but that's more by luck than judgement. Haven't even managed dinner cos the course runs from 6-9, no time before and can't be bothered after!

Well done Fairenuff and Sparky, loss is great and maintenance is great especially when you've had a bad food week! I'm pretty sure I only lost weight cos it's the start of healthy eating and I eat a lot of salty crap, so probably just lost 2lb of water retention

kelly2525 · 28/02/2012 13:49

Week one for me and 2lbs off, I know it would`ve been more but erm giant chocolate buttons are on offer in tesco!

On the plus side Ive had one small can and one regular sized can of full fat yummy divine coke all week, normally it wouldve been in double figures.

(And I wonder where that fat arse that follows me everywhere came from)

How much has every one got to lose? Has anyone got a LOT to lose like me? (4.5 stones)

Fairenuff · 28/02/2012 16:13

Well done Kelly that's a great start Smile. I had 3-4 stone to lose at the begining of the year and have lost 16lb already so far, so 2-3 stone to go. Stick with it, you'll get there.

Today at work I did 11,771 steps. So far so good Smile. Am feeling pretty knackered though, not sure if I'll make it to pilates this evening!

SparkySparrow · 28/02/2012 16:47

Thats a great start kelly I need to loose about 3st overall, so a long way to go!

Had a bit of a mad moment last night while I was craving sugar and cut 4inches of my hair Confused. Its done the trick I feel great today. Much more positive! And I have had lots of compliments about my hair :) . Walked miles with ds today while we did abit of shopping, came home with a Hamster Confused .

Dinner is chilli with tortillas. Pudding is Kiwi and Banana.

Well done every one keep up the good work!

Flojo1979 · 28/02/2012 22:17

sparky u cut your own hair? And got compliments?!

Well Monday was a gd day then I fucked mucked it up by missing breakfast and lunch and going to tesco hungry and buying hotcross buns (they were on offer) I ate four :( Mr killing farmhouse cake (on offer) I ate half at 3pm and other half at 8pm :( and 2 creme eggs (on offer). Didnt cook the healthy tea I went for ingredients for.

SparkySparrow · 28/02/2012 22:21

I did the MN cut again just more drastic Grin

Never ever go shopping hungry!! Its never works out well!
Just draw a line under today and start fresh tomorrow.

Make sure you have breakfast!

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 28/02/2012 22:33

If you ever HAVE to shop while hungry, go get a pint of semi skimmed milk.
take it to customer service, pay for it, drink it. ALL
you will then NOT be hungry for at least an hour and be able to shop sensibly

Fairenuff · 28/02/2012 22:59

And don't buy crap just because it's on offer!!!! Grin

It's always the crap on offer. I cannot believe how expensive some proper good food is. Like tinned fruit. Those little single portions of pineapple are lovely to have in a lunch box but they are nearly 60p each!! And sugar free jelly, little more than flavoured water is 54p for one tiny pot. I can't justify buying food like that anymore, I just stick to boring apples, bananas and oranges for my lunch box.

Chocolate, crisps, biscuits, cakes, always, always, always on offer. So if you are tempted just remember, it will all be there next week and every week so you do not have to 'bag a bargain' when you see it Grin.

Co-operative sell hot cross buns which are actually labelled 'Healthy Hot Cross Buns'. Not low fat, or lighter choice, no, they are saying they are actually healthy. Ha ha ha ha . . .

Oooh that was a bit of a rant there, sorry folks, not a fan of supermarkets, can you tell Blush Grin.

TalkinPeace2 · 28/02/2012 23:07

a 400g tin of sliced pineapple is only 59p in Waitrose (bought for DD to make sweet and sour)

buy Sainsbury's basics apples - wonderful varieties just off shapes

bananas - buy the single ones (they are 10 times more likely to go to landfill so you are saving the planet) and then you get a variety of ripeness ...

DO NOT EVEN WALK DOWN THE SNACKS AISLE

BelinaTheChicken · 28/02/2012 23:51

Talkin thats a great tip with the milk, I always end up buying more crap when I'm hungry. I've also started doing shopping when DS1 is at nursery and my DM can take DS2 for a walk, cos he normally screams the whole way round, and I get flustered amd end up just throwing anything in the basket and legging it out of there

Came home today to find an enormous chocolate cake on the kitchen counter Angry as DH had decided to do some 'baking' for after dinner with his friends, but forgot to get it out, so only one piece missing... fortunately it's one of those ready mix ones and has no icing, so it tastes like cak and have managed to resist, hurrah!

TalkinPeace2 · 29/02/2012 00:04

small children in supermarkets : find a broken off bit of carrot (couple of inches long) let them munch on it as you go round - you are ripping the supermarket off for all of about 3p
but making everybody's shop nicer

if in waitrose - get them to hold the scanner
I got somebody else's kid to stop howling by asking them to 'beep' a carton of OJ - and then a couple of other things up and down the aisles
suited everybody :-)

lower stress is good for fat burning too

(unlike debugging a spreadsheet which is what I've been doing for the last 4 hours. Aaarrgghh)

putyourhatonsweetie · 29/02/2012 04:16

great start kelly well done. another supermarket hater here too. the first day I took dd to school and hence the first day I could go with just ds was the very day he learned how to climb out of the trolley. happy days.

back on the wagon this week, I start a new job next week after 15 months off with ds, I have had my hair chopped and coloured and am not massive slim. new start Smile

Fairenuff · 29/02/2012 22:11

Evening all Smile

Today I did 11,127 steps. I have noticed that I definately move more when I wear the pedometer because I want to reach my target 10,000. So instead of standing still to supervise the children at work, I have started walking up and down the room. I'm going to continue to wear it to get a good average daily target, then gradually increase it so that I'm burning extra calories.

TP I did not know that lowering your stress level increases your fat burning. Is that what you meant? If that's the case, I think I had better take up meditation. I rather like the idea of burning calories when sitting still Grin.

Hope everyone is well.

putyourhatonsweetie · 29/02/2012 22:58

wow fairenuff that is great. I MUST get a pedometer, I march miles at the moment running after the children but soon to be desk bound so having something that encourages me to keep moving will help.

right, time to shred...

TalkinPeace2 · 01/03/2012 00:06

Fairenuff
yes, reduced stress helps the body to digest and therefore results in better metabolism of everything - mindfulness and meditation are really god for the body as well as the soul

try a simple breathing technique after you switch your computer off.
Count your breath, in seconds (one banana takes a second to say)
in for three
out for three
in for four
out for four
in for five
out for five
in for four
out for for
in for three
out for three
and repeat

as your stomach gets stronger you get up to in for 8, hold for 4, out for 10, hold for 5
and the combination of counting and holding your muscles clears the brain of everything else for a few moments

mrspepperpotty · 02/03/2012 08:22

Hello all, sorry I haven't been around much this week.

Well done kelly on your first loss. I haven't got as much to lose as you, but 2 years ago I did - I lost 2 and a half stone in 2010, put on half a stone in 2011, have now got rid of that and aiming to lose another stone and a half. So I know it can be done! (eventually!)

No loss for me at my weigh in this week. A bit disappointing as I'd had a really good week until the night before my weigh-in when I met a couple of friends and fell into a bottle of red wine had a few glasses of wine and some cheesecake Blush.

Back on the wagon now and determined to lose next week! Not much planned for the weekend, so that should make it easier.

Have a good weekend everyone!

catinblack · 02/03/2012 09:22

Hello everyone,
i'd like to join. I have about 1 stone to lose but i am very short so it does make a huge difference to my appearance. I'll just be doing my own thing rather than following a plan. I know decent amounts of lean protein are good and some complex carbs. I have to watch how much fibre i eat though (I have IBS which is controlled by lowering my original very high fibre diet) so i prefer most of it to come from fruit and veg rather than brown rice or wholemeal bread (which i actually love).
slow and steady is the way to go, and i hate being hungry! I like the idea of a pedometer though. I keep saying i walk lots but i wonder how much i really walk? must dig my old one out. Anyone know what we are aiming for? how many paces a day?

BelinaTheChicken · 02/03/2012 10:36

Having a good week so far, despite constant temptation from DH eating a variety of crap and leaving evidence and leftovers lying around. Took all of my self control not to stuff my face with the mini eggs I found this morning, but put a clip on the open bag and put them in DH's coat pocket

Can feel resolve weakening though, and have a dinner out on Saturdat for DSis' birthday, hope I can restrain myself and order something not too horrificly fattening Hmm

putyourhatonsweetie · 02/03/2012 11:24

welcome catinblack

belina please don't lose your resolve, you are doing so well! resisting mini eggs is triumph indeed.

I have done really well this week, and done lots of exercise so I can feel myself getting motivated again after a slump. and two different people asked if I had lost weight today Smile

good luck over the weekends ladies - we can do it x

Fairenuff · 02/03/2012 17:10

mrspp wow you have done so well last year and this Smile. Slow and steady is definately the best way to go and well done for reigning it back in when you started to gain again. That's something I am determined to do now. There is no point trying so hard to lose weight if I'm just going to put it back on again, so I hope the slow and steady approach will permanently change my bad habits too.

Belina it's tough eating out, all that temptation! How about seeing if anyone will share a dessert so you can just have a little taste and choose a lighter option for your main course?

Welcome catinblack Smile. I am aiming for 10,000 steps a day but first I am going to wear my pedometer to work all week, then keep a record of how many steps I do in a week. Once I know my average daily steps, I will try to increase it by doing extra in the evenings. So far this week I have averaged 7,000 steps a day so if I go for 10,000 I will be burning extra calories Smile.

mrspepperpotty · 02/03/2012 17:34

Thanks fairenuff Smile

To be fair, DC3 was born in 2009 so the first bit came off quite easily. I think the last stone and a half will be harder!

Welcome catinblack and well done on the mini eggs belina! Glad to hear you have your mojo back putyourhaton Smile

BelinaTheChicken · 04/03/2012 09:07

Where is everyone??

Dinner out was great, probably went well over calories, but probably not over my non-dieting limit. Only one small glass of wine, and they had a sweet selection platter with 6 teeny bits on, and shared it with DSis

So hopefully will at least maintain. Doing a huge roast, but will skip the roasties and just have chicken and veg.
