The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

morning allSmile Thanks crazy though if Ali's correct maybe the "birth" might be toilet based Grin and hopefully sooner than 9 months to be born!!!

Chirpy Sad I DO combine PMK with eating healthily 'cos i like to be healthy ! (i know he says there's no such thing as healthy food but I DO disagree with the sex god about that!)

NotANaturalGeordie · 30/03/2012 09:41

Morning

Good news Faith, so sorry for your loss Chirpy.

Can I ask your advice please ladies? I work at Maccy D's - long shifts where you cannot just go and eat when you are hungry, and the choice of food when I do get my break is not great Grin.

Last night, I wasn't hungry for my dinner but I ate because I knew I would be working hard, then when I got my break I ate again because I have the 'now or never' attitude. Any thoughts or suggestions? Some of you must have the same problem of not being able to eat while working - what do you do?

xx

crazynell · 30/03/2012 12:46

Morning ladies _ oh dear its actually 12 30!! :)

Sorry for your loss Chirpy
Sounds good, Faith

PP and Ali well, lets hope its movement "down below" - mind if you know how sluggish my insides are you'd appreciate how welcome some "movement" is to me - regular to me is 2-3 days and i've even been known to not go for 10 days......that was ba-aad. Sorry to lower the tone ladies :)

"Geordie* its difficult isn't it when you're at work - is there anyway you could take in some things you can snack on then just eat as much as you need when you need them in your lunch and tea breaks?

I've trying to find ways of politely refusing food when i'm not hungry, as i think that if i can do this it will stop me taking food just because i'm offered it and i don't want to tell people i'm on a diet cause i'm not. I tend to say "no thanks", or "give me a smaller portion" - but they sound like i'm saying I'm on a diet. What do you tell people?

ppeatfruit · 30/03/2012 13:38

I just say "I'm on the Paul mckenna way of eating which says eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full and I'm full ATM thanks"

This gets interesting reactions from some people (notably my x DIL who's Portuguese and believes in force feeding DCs Sad) She just looks at me like I'm the mad one Hmm).

crazy Have you thought you may be intolerant to wheat? 'cos I was a bit like that in 'certain' habits until I stopped eating it.

Ref. taking snax with you I agree with crazy Notanatural I don't know what your place of work would think but it's your right to eat what you want isn't it?

crazynell · 30/03/2012 13:58

PP i think you're right about the wheat intolerance - i'm worse when i'm eating more bread.

OrmIrian · 30/03/2012 14:00

I don't even think of there being anything to tell about this TBH. I'm not on a diet, I'm not restricting what I eat, I am simply learning not to eat when I'm not hungry. I doesn't feel like a diet at all. No-one needs to notice as there isn't anything to notice iyswim.

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 30/03/2012 14:11

Great news, doc has confirmed I can go home! Hooray! Just waiting for my drugs to come from pharmacy. Yay :)
I agree, I'll make healthy choices, for example, if I cook a meal I'll always cook some veg with it. Try to do 50% veg, 25% potato, 25% meat so it's balanced. I go with my gut on what I fancy but the to chose fruit and veg regularly.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/03/2012 16:24

Faith - hooray! Have a lovely weekend :)

Orm I think you have it there, there isn't a need to say anything. Certainly no-one has mentioned anything based on my eating habits, and when people have complimented me on my weightloss I've just said 'thank you' and left it at that.
The only person who asked what I was doing was MIL, she is diet obsessed, has bounced on and off SW for years and never managed to shift more than a stone before putting 1.5 back on again :( I really feel for her and I hope she perseveres with PMK because I think it could be brilliant for her.

crazy - what sort of situations are you struggling with? If you tell us perhaps we can give you some tips.

I am still poorly, and earlier I was sooo hungry, just couldn't stop eating and really didn't feel full. I feel a lot better this afternoon though, maybe I needed some fuel?
DH will be home in a couple of hours and then it is the weekend :)

ppeatfruit · 30/03/2012 16:44

That's great news pheeSmile IMO and E The problem with "healthy choices' is what is healthy for one person is not for another;e.g. I know now that tomatoes and oranges give me eczema which before going on the the Blood Type I didn't realise and for B types they're fine. Also if you're an A type like me you have to be careful with eating meat but most fish is fine and if you're an O type like DH and solo red meat well most meat actually is brilliant but wheat is a no no. It's fascinating. Obviously it's not as simple as that but I hope I've given you some idea without being too boring!!! Blush

crazy See above i used to think that wholewheat bread was fabulously healthy not any more; there's a new book out called Wheat Belly by William Davis.

crazynell · 30/03/2012 17:09

Thanks PP I'll have look for it on amazon

Ali i think I find it difficult when i'm eating with people - i tend to just eat without regard for whether i'm hungry or not, so i thought i'd think of some phrases i could use that would satisfy people and get them to back off
faith, great news :)

Re healthy eating - its always my preference and since i've started PMKing i haven't even wanted my usual coffee and cake. I much prefer healthy natural home cooked food - i get a bit hyper if i have too much flavour enhancers and preservatives in foods. There have been times when i've been on ww when my choice of food has been a bit narrow - being on PMk is great cause i am starting to eat a broader range of foods without being worried about it - i just stop when i'm hungry - usually :)

CalamityKate · 30/03/2012 19:22

I am absolutely loving this Grin

I've lost about 4 and a half pounds so far Grin

And amazingly for me - I am not feeling deprived in the slightest.

I love that I'm enjoying food more than I ever have, due to eating more slowly and actually bloody TASTING IT!

I'm finding I am thinking about food more - as in looking forward to being hungry and eating stuff and enjoying it, but it's not in a "craving" way. In fact I can go past previously craveworthy stuff and think "Ooh that looks nice" but in a strangely detached way. Not been tempted to buy/eat it at all.

I've discovered the joy that is Philadelphia With Chocolate, spread on Digestive Biscuits (it's basically then a tiny little chocolate cheesecake) but I can quite, quite easily stop at one.

Today I have eaten: A small bowl of muesli (normally it would be a large bowl, then a bit more);

About 3/4 of a ham and cheese sandwich and a few crisps (usually I'd have inhaled the whole sandwich and a big pile of crisps)

About 3/4 of a 2 egg omelette with loads of onion, mushroom, ham and a little cheese (I'd normally have a 3 egg one, with LOADS of cheese and eaten the lot);

A digestive with Choc Philly spread sensibly thinly (I'd normally have spead it stupidly thickly, and probably had about 4).

Sorry for being dull, listing food, but I can't believe how much less I'm eating and being completely satisfied with! In fact I feel stuffed now Grin

Question: how slowly is everyone eating? I've worked out I'm chewing a little slower than one chew per second, and chewing each mouthful 20 - 30 times.

Oh, and probably as a consequence of eating less, slower and chewing more thoroughly - I haven't had indigestion or heartburn since I started this Grin

chelliebellie · 30/03/2012 19:39

Hi there.
I was just wondering how you all feel about this diet now? I desperately need to do something about my weight, it makes me so unhappy, but I just don't know what to do anymore.
Overall - has this diet worked?
Thanks

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/03/2012 21:21

I have seriously overdone it this evening. Talk about breaking the rules. Blush

Went out to Little Frankies for dinner, end of term treat. What possessed me to order a desert I don't know. Actually I do know - I blame Sainsburys for no longer doing individual cherry crumbles so when I saw on I had to have it. Don't remember the last time I was this stuffed. Sad Angry --> that is me about to explode not angry.

At least I won't be tempted to eat anything else this evening or I might be like that chap on Monty Python's The Meaning of Life who eats all evening and then says he full but the waiter tempts him with one last sliver of ham and he explodes. I could be that exploding person.

chelliebellie Welcome but I don't think I am the person to talk to about this eating plan this evening.

We don't call it a diet because it isn't. It is just a route to sensible eating that allows us to eat what we like, in moderation, to improve our relationship with food and lose weight. It is fab when you don't eat too much cherry crumble.

HaveaLittleFaith - fantastic news about going home. Hope you are feeling OK. Have a great weekend.Smile

Calamity - Great news! Well done Grin

Ali - do you have cold? It is certainly true that you starve a fever and feed a cold. Why do colds make you so hungry?!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 30/03/2012 21:43

Hooray I am home :) in our bed. Pain is bad after increasing my activity but they sent me home with all the good drugs.
Ali the week before I was poorly my sense of fullness went out the window. I knew I wasn't right, I felt too tired to exercise. I gained half a stone in a fortnight. Then I went into hospital, barely ate and lost that half a stone in a week! I think you're body tries to harvest whatever it can if it knows you're ill.
chellie I believe in this technique so much the girl in the hospital bed next to me has just ordered it! It works because it's simple. It works on pschology. I'm a bit too dopey to explain it all but yes, it works for us, it could work for you.
bbb right, stop eating! Start again tomorrow :)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/03/2012 22:31

Mmmm we have had chinese for tea. Yum yum.

Yes I do have a cold, fortunately it seems to be in retreat!

chelli - yes this way of eating is brilliant. It is not a diet, but you will lose weight and feel so much better about food.

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/03/2012 22:40

Did you cook it yourself Ali or did you get a take away? We have a Chinese just up the road but it isn't that great and we tend to only get fish and chips there. I would be interested to know if you know a good one. Smile

chelliebellie · 30/03/2012 22:46

Thank you!
I've ordered the book so that I can also find my way to eating sensibly (oops sorry for using the d word, I've decided to scrap it from my vocabulary!).
So I guess you'll be hearing from me quite a lot in the near future. If anyone has any tips for a new starter they would be gratefully received!

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/03/2012 22:51

Don't eat too much cherry crumble.

BigBoobiedBertha · 30/03/2012 22:57

Seriously, although we have the rules at the beginning of the thread, I reckon reading the book properly is a great motivator and will answer most of your questions. Once you get started you will no doubt have more but we can help those. They are likely issues on dealing with situations that are specific to you.

Listening to the CD also helps a lot .

I think the most important rule, according to the book is to eat what you enjoy and everything else will fall into place. It is true - you will find that if you aren't eating to cover up a desire for something else you will eat less. You will enjoy it more if you are hungry and if you stop enjoying it you know it is because you are full and not because you just didn't fancy it anyway.

All I can say is give it a go and good luck. Smile

chelliebellie · 30/03/2012 23:02

The only bit that worries me is the 'if you aren't eating to cover up a desire for something else'. I know that I currently eat for comfort, because I'm bored, stressed, celebrating....... The list goes on......

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/03/2012 00:36

Chellie it helps with all that. You have nothing to lose by giving it a try Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/03/2012 00:40

BBB - takeaway! Grin

The one near Asda is good for fish and chips, not so good for Chinese.
We use Black Dam mostly, who deliver over our side, or sometimes we collect from one in Joices Yard which is v.v good and I wish they delivered.
This is the first time this year we have had a Chinese, it was so delicious Grin

ppeatfruit · 31/03/2012 09:28

Good last day of march morning everyone Smile Welcomechellie You're in the RIGHT place we are all at different stages but I reckon a huge amount of weight has been lost all together!! I'm maintaining my nearly 3 stone loss.

calam you've got the chewing slowly and that's one of the main keys!!! Congrats. !!!

BBB Stop already BE KIND TO YOURSELF !!!! Tomorrow is another day as we all know!!!!

I'm getting worried about Kinky Anyone heard from her lately? Solo?

BigBoobiedBertha · 31/03/2012 11:08

Happy Weekend!

ppeat - don't worry. I am only having a joke at my own expense - I so rarely get stuffed like that it was a bit of a novelty. Do you know the weird thing though - that crumble still tasted gorgeous even when I was stuffed and had to leave half of it. Very strange. Not really experienced that before.

Kinky last posted anywhere on MN last Monday. I just hope she knows we are happy to listen to anything she wants to tell us about. < Waves to Kinky if she is lurking> - Come back, Kinky, come back!! Even if Pauling is a step too far and is just adding to your list of things to think about come, just come and have a chat. Hope you and your DD are OK.

Ali - a chinese that delivers? I hadn't thought of that. We just think take away at the end of the road? Nah it is a bit yucky, buy the ready meals from Sainsburys and do our own. Not the same as a takeaway though, is it? The question is how hot it would be when it arrives - don't want it tepid. Is it alright? Or DH could pick up from Joices yard on the way home from work and drive like the clappers to ensure maximum freshness. Grin

Solo · 31/03/2012 13:01

Hi all. Had a quick read through and forgive me for not answering the many, but very busy here right now!! (or should be!) I will PM Kinky I haven't seen her.
I have had a bad few days really
