The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. So forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions.
The Paul McKenna system works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

Please feel free to join us. We are friendly, supportive and successful but we're not hungry!!! so come on in and start living your new life today!

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning and despite some setbacks during the week have lost a pound which has made me happy! Some of it is down to the Amazing Breastfeeding Effect but it can't all be.... I'm beginning to think more positively about food and things which is good.

I need to really get a hang of cooking during the week. I'm just exhausted and its more a case of "can't be bothered" anymore and everything seeming too hard so we're not eating great. My daughter and I like different things so I don't often cook the sort of thing I like just for me. I should do really! I was craving a banana earlier and now I fancy pineapple and we just don't have fruit at the moment...!!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 24/02/2012 19:29

Keep going kinky!!!!! You're doing really well :)
Good start using.
I agree about having a drink if you're not sure you're hungry. I'm still learning my hunger/thirst signals after being on prescriptive diets for so long.
have no idea what the Chinese stuff is about
I've been running again, 6.57k tonight whoop Grin just increasing distance at the moment. Feel really good for it. DH is out to work tomorrow so I'm going to crack open my book and start doing the visualising stuff, I've been lacking and I think I need to focus on that.

MumPotNoodle · 24/02/2012 19:52

Evening everyone, mind if I ask a couple of questions?

How long have you been using this method and how much have you lost?
Has anyone who is middle aged been successful?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 24/02/2012 20:15

Hi I'm phee, I've been doing it since New Year, when I last weighed myself I'd lost 9lb and 5 inches. I'm 30.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2012 23:37

Ooh I've had a bit of a skinful of wine and a lovely burger this evening. Grin I was hungry though, and my boys have been so well behaved and lovely and are both sleeping beautifully in the hotel room off mine. I had 2 hours in the bar with my family and friends, lovely lovely. Now DH is down there and I am doing a face mask and MNing.

To anyone new, or struggling - please stick with this. For the first time ever I thought 'I want to lose X pounds before' and I have actually done it, plus an extra half a pound! Smile

KinkyDorito · 25/02/2012 07:24

Ali so pleased you have had a lovely evening Smile.

Phee thank you Thanks. I'm still plodding on.

MumPot since second week of January; 18lbs; 32 - there are a range of people on here including middle aged. This is really about re-educating how you eat and it is really worth a try. Look at it like this, a second hand copy from Amazon will cost you a couple of pounds; membership to slimming club, or paying for diet meals every day, or buying protein shakes for Atkins, etc, is far more costly. I don't think you'll regret it, but you must listen to the CD every day if you can. I also think it's more effective for me through headphones: I tried PMK before and it didn't work. I've returned after a couple of years to try again and I'm finding it has really sunk in and I do think listening on through headphones has helped as you do close everything else out.

KinkyDorito · 25/02/2012 07:25

lots of really's there - how enthusiastic do I sound?! Grin Grin

Neenook · 25/02/2012 08:12

Nbee and solo thanks for your suggestions. Up until now I haven't done any of the visualisation techniques, but tried the self appreciation in the mirror this morning. Was kind of dreading it IYKWIM, but actually wasn't to bad.

I do feel quite re-energised about the whole thing now....

Will post later to let you know how today's been, DS's have b'day party to go to later - will involve grown-up food and wine - any tips ladies?!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 25/02/2012 08:43

kinky that's because it really, really does work! Grin
I'm going to start visualising too, see how we get on.
Ali it sounds like you're really enjoying yourself :) as long as you're following the rules that's fine!
It's funny, I barely ate yesterday in the day, I just wasn't very hungry. I went for a run then DH cooked curry, it tasted so good ! I swear I feel slimmer today!

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2012 09:46

Morning all Smile Congrats to you all esp. for the enthusiasm!!! mummypot Iam over middle aged Grin 61 to be precise and I had gradually put on 3 stone and on P.M. (with a healthy eating plan which hadn't stopped the weight gain!) I have lost all that extra weight. It re educates yr physical and mental attitude to food. AND IT WORKS!!!

Neenok Just eat when you feel hungry and best to stay away from the wine esp. on an empty stomach!!

Ephiny · 25/02/2012 09:55

I've lost about 1 1/2 stone, though that hasn't been purely through PM, I've done periods of dieting with calorie counting as well. I'm 31 so not quite middle aged yet I guess :)

The thing it has helped enormously with is keeping the weight off. For years I was stuck in the cycle of losing weight and piling it all back on, alternating strict dieting with binge eating. I honestly thought I'd never be free of the binge-eating/comfort-eating problem - but (fingers crossed) it seems to be gone. Just don't have the urge to do it any more. Now that I'm focusing on how my body/stomach feels, and the sensations of hunger/fullness, and eating slowly/mindfully, it almost doesn't occur to me to overeat. It's physically uncomfortable to eat too much, and emotionally it doesn't feel like a kind/nice thing to do to myself any more.

Ephiny · 25/02/2012 09:59

Just wanted to add - with hindsight I think it would have worked just as well if I hadn't done the calorie counting. Better, probably, as the calorie counting periods were inevitably alternated with binge eating days Hmm.

Only did it because to start with I didn't 'trust' the method, and was afraid that if I stopped counting calories and just ate according to hunger/fullness, I might put on weight. It's hard to let go of the control element of calorie/point counting, or following strict dietary rules, when you've been used to doing it so long...

Solo · 25/02/2012 14:59

Hello all!
I will be 48 in a few weeks time and I lost 2 stones between January and May last year. I had tried weight loss from the previous September, but didn't do so well really; a bit off and a bit on.

When I got my 2st off, I gained half a stone because I stopped PMKing a while and then gained a little more, but I'm really happy to say that having started at 15st 2lbs, I am now nearing the bit where I can say I'm 12st something!!

This way of living and eating is a great way and I hope to never need to start again on it because I always want to be in tune with my body!

KinkyDorito · 25/02/2012 15:26

I noticed this morning that I've been throwing quite a lot of food away. It took me aback a bit as I don't like wasting things.

Then, I realised that I was throwing away leftovers, including all of family's, and normally we wouldn't have leftovers because I would eat all of them Blush.

It has been quite scary to see how much I was consuming. For example, last night I had a tofu and mixed veg dish from Chinese with boiled rice. I ate most of it, but left a third of the rice. There were chips, spring rolls, DH had fried rice, DD had more boiled rice... lots of bits. I threw out half a portion of chips, much of DDs rice, some fried rice, some spring rolls and what was left of my rice. Normally there wouldn't have been anything left Shock. So, this shows me that PMK is really working for me, and that I need to be more restrained when ordering takeaway in the future Grin.

Solo · 25/02/2012 15:29

Yay!! well done Kinky Grin

I used to finish Dd's meals too, but don't any more!

Doh! I just tried to post but MN went offline I HATE THAT Grin Well done KinKs for getting 'into it' properly now Smile

It seems Sols that the thread about wheat belly in Food is getting quite heated Grin I'm wondering if many of them know WTF they're talking about except us of course !!!!

Solo · 25/02/2012 17:27

Grin I'm just following you pp Grin

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 25/02/2012 18:15

kinky and solo that's brilliant..it's those empty calories you don't notice when you're unconsciously eating.
I noticed today when we popped to the supermarket neither of us went for crips and dips, chocolate or any snacks foods like we would have previously. They're food you eat when you're not really hungry so they just don't appeal any more. Very strange, but good :)

spendthrift · 25/02/2012 18:50

May I join you? I went to see PM ages ago but somehow although I completely agreed with what he was saying, I lost focus. After being ill for a long time (and unable to exercise but able to drink and eat Blush) I now want to become healthier and alongside all the exercise blah (still limited) need to lose lots. Anonymous encouragement would be great..

Solo · 25/02/2012 18:52

Welcome aboard spendthrift!! we are all great on this thread and will encourage you greatly :)

A few of us were at the seminar a year ago and it was inspiring!

Hello spendthrift and welcome Smile. Lots of encouragement here.

spendthrift · 25/02/2012 19:02

that's fantastic - thank you. Instant gratification of a non-fattening kind. Will now look out aged cd of the master and repractice tapping.

MumPotNoodle · 25/02/2012 19:20

Thank you all for your replies. Pauling makes a lot of sense.

usingapseudonym · 25/02/2012 19:33

I've had a difficult day. I think I eat more when I'm tired and I'm just plain exhausted. I bought a packet of "sensations" crisps and just kept eating them and then felt yucky. I guess at least I recognised what I was doing or some such.

I do think keeping on top of things daily - doing some exercises and/or listening to the cd really helps but even with the 90 day diary I'm not.

Still, the dvds have arrived and I do have a bit of time monday and tuesday while DD1 is at pre-school. I think I need to meal plan for the week and build in some snacks that i fancy. Part of my erratic eating is simply because I'm not organised!

I have lost 9lbs since Jan 1st though, so not all bad! Only recently PMK (was using mfp) and convinced that the PMK approach is the way forwards!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 25/02/2012 19:36

It really does make sense, more sense than any diet or weight management programme I've tried before. I'm also much happier than before, not starving and motivated to exercise!
This Fred is luffly and encouraging too. It's not about being perfect or having an ideal life, it's about doing it by making healthy choices.
