Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Yay! Back again on w6r1 - hopefully third time lucky starting week 6.

I changed to run keeper and it thinks I did 7km - there is no way. Has anyone found the gps part to be inaccurate? Is there a bug?

Great to see those milestones being reached and to all those injured or sick - hang in there!

cece · 20/02/2012 20:58

Just back from w6r2 and it was good Smile

Covered 3.8km and felt comfortable - could have carried on when Laurie said stop. Smile

I could have done more if I hadn't turned down a road that doesn't have streetlights. It is quite busy though and it was a while before there was a gap in the cars and I found myself in the middle of a dark wood! So had to turn around and find somewhere else to go. LOL

ILovePonyo · 20/02/2012 21:06

Hi all

I have lurked for a while but thought Id join in now as I started couch to 5k tonight - I found it ok, still got a stitch and running uphill definitely challenging Grin

I fear that my motivation may go when the novelty wears off so will try to keep up to date with this thread and you motivational ladies :)

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2012 21:10

Glad to hear you're back Jnice! I use run keeper along side either the podcast or 5k runner app and it's been fine all apart from one time. That time it said I'd done 10.78Km which is a hilarious idea!!

I am trying quite hard to lose weight yehudiwho it's not just from running Grin

Would prefer your weightloss areas Debka, my thighs are huge!!

Jnice · 20/02/2012 23:45

Ah, just a one-off blip then cinnamon!

I looked at the map and it has me running in a straight line out to sea! Then rejoins the route. So not only am I now Olympic speed I am also an amphibious runner Grin

montague · 21/02/2012 08:38

Did week 4 run 2 yesterday but only managed the first 5 min run and then got dreadful pain in calves and shins and so had to wince my way home before completing it

Having a day off today and will have another crack at it tomorrow. I hope I haven't done any thing too dreadful to my poor old legs

weblette · 21/02/2012 09:23

Pompoms at the ready QRGM!!! You can do it!!!

W7R1 wasn't easy, REALLY don't like this week's music, bring back 'So Easy Now' please!

thestringcheesemassacre · 21/02/2012 09:35

Hello all,
sorry to have been MIA, loads of drama here with very sick pooch.

anyway, I'm v happy to say I'M FINISHED! I ran W9 R3 this morning. Chuffed!
I'm going to keep on for abit now at 30 and see if I can work on the pace. Do a park run in a month or so. And then after that build on the distance.

This has been unreal and I can honestly say I can't believe I can run for 30mins. Christmas I was puffed at 60secs.

Keep going everyone, it's the best.

dotty2 · 21/02/2012 09:40

Wow - thecheesestringmassacre. I think you are our first graduate! Congratulations! Am still on W7 myself (R3 today) but definitely can see the goal in sight and it feels achievable - it is an amazing programme, isn't it?

weblette · 21/02/2012 09:57

Passes Cheesestring mortarboard and diploma

Well done!!! Grin Thanks Wine

BettyKitchen · 21/02/2012 10:01

Well done on finishing cheesestring

Did W6R1 this morning. Feet felt like lead on the start of the last 5mins. Would like to just run now without stopping to walk but I know my speed will suffer and I want to keep running at a reasonable pace.

Have started doing myfitnesspal too in an effort to figure out why I'm not losing weight. I really want to be wearing lovely skinny pastel jeans this spring!

thestringcheesemassacre · 21/02/2012 10:02

Thanks weblette and dotty, so kind!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 21/02/2012 10:13

Oh I'm so proud! our first graduate! Well done stringcheese! Grin

Weblette agreed, I might just listen to w6 again, the w7 music is rubbish!

That's a good idea QRGM. I don't think I'm ready to give up Laura's dulcet tones yet but having something to sing along too makes it much easier - and I find I can pace myself better.

trice · 21/02/2012 11:16

I have done two weeks of w2 and am planning to start w3 tomorrow. I am really enjoying it. I can't wait to get up to 20 mins.

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 21/02/2012 11:54

well done cheesestring! bet it feels great to have completed it.

Just clocked in the car where we run and its a total of 2.4 miles including warm up and cool down, i also kno how much further on my trail to go to make it 5k and it includes a bastard of a hill, which my body just cannot do.

anyway going to do W4 R1 early evening with SIL and see if we can manage 5 mins running.

omydarlin · 21/02/2012 12:52

Well done stringcheese you are an inspiration! welcome to iloveponyo I'm just a little ahead of you on week 3 so you are not the only new girl ;)

dotty2 · 21/02/2012 13:27

W7R3 done! Felt pretty good - bring on W8. (As weblette suggested, listened to W6R3 - I have poor musical taste so don't mind the kitsch, but W7 just isn't 'up' enough, somehow) Keep on running!

bigbadbarry · 21/02/2012 13:31

Wow, a graduate! That must feel amazing. I did w2r2 this morning after 2 weeks off with sore knees: I could feel them but I got through it. Came straight home and put frozen peas on them for 20 mins and so far so good. Fingers crossed. Think the lady next to me on the treadmill might also be a c25ker but some weeks further along than me :)

thestringcheesemassacre · 21/02/2012 13:33

Thanks everyone, it's been so motivating knowing I have to report in here with each run.

Jnice · 21/02/2012 14:03

Yay! So proud! Congrats cheese! Grin

yehudiwho · 21/02/2012 16:09

OH stringcheese we are so proud, watching you get your diploma gave me a lump in my throat - new rule -every graduate has to recruit new member to c25k - we are a cult and Laura is our cult leader

nomorecake · 21/02/2012 16:26

Congratulations and Well done thestringcheesemassacre.

1st survivor!
moving on to 10k?

cinnamongreyhound · 21/02/2012 16:41
