Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Hey hello geekmum!!

I am due to do w5r3 tomorrow - does Laura tell you when you are half way, so I can turn around and head home at the right time?

HellonHeels · 14/02/2012 23:29

Great running everyone!

I did W2 R1 tonight, was rather grumpy during my run. Laura was annoying me with the 'tips', the music is a bit insipid and I felt quite a big difference between 60 and 90 seconds. Onwards and upwards, I hope Thursday's session will be better. On the positive side, no aches.

I'm doing nothing about diet so far and really need to, partly to fuel myself properly (a diet of cake isn't helping the running, I'm sure) and partly to get the lard off.

Omy I'm on Week 2 and also doing Tues, Thurs and Saturday.

Great comeback Geekmum I'm impressed you've picked up where you left off, do you think a brief respite has made a difference?

rusmum · 15/02/2012 08:02

Ow ow ow up all night with bloody knee pain! Any advice how to treat?

Jnice · 15/02/2012 08:17

Ice and ibuprofen, in fact ibuprofen is really excellent. It helps reduce inflammation too. Hope the knee heals soon.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/02/2012 08:39

No running for me today, I feel absolutely awful! Was up half the night shivering and teeth chattering plus getting up to ds1 who's still not right. Think I was a bit delirious judging by my very strange dreams! Wish dh could stay home today and look after us :(

rusmum · 15/02/2012 09:21

I ill too today. Thanks for knee advice, hope it isn't a reoccurring thing as loving going out. How long should i give them to rest? Sad Smile

bigbadbarry · 15/02/2012 18:43

I'm away from home this weekso taking the opportunity to let my Very Painful knees heal, rusmum - i last ran ( limped ) last Tuesday and today is the first time I've been pain free. Mind you I also have a stinking old so am dosed up on paracetamol. I think I've done the right thing though - really hope that when I start again next week it doesn't start again

rusmum · 15/02/2012 19:08

? Pondering going out tomorrow? Really want to but may do more harm than good Wink

Jnice · 15/02/2012 19:53

Oh no cinnamon - I feel for you Sad get well soon.

Rusmum - how is the pain? Probably need to rest until it goes away. Have you got decent running shoes? That might help for the future.

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 15/02/2012 20:39

W6R2 done today, I found the first 10 minutes quite tough so not sure about the next one Hmm

cece That sounds like a plan for the future - kids on bikes/scooters with me running behind DD is just 6 months and I haven't been brave enough to take the pram out running.

cece · 15/02/2012 21:08

bigbad and rusmum - hope your knees fel better soon.

cinnamon - hope you are feeling better too.

I have just done week 5 run 3 - the dreaded 20 mins. Managed to finish it but had wobbly legs at the end.... LOL Not sure I covered much ground but at least I finished so happy with that. So onto week 6 on Sat. Off to MIL tomorrow and back on Friday, so that should fit in nicely.

Vajazzler · 15/02/2012 22:41

Hi all! Great to see everyone still doing so great. Cant believe so many MN'ers are still running. I thought I would have given up by now but here I am checking in for W5R3! It was a toughie this one. I had a cold earlier in the week and attempted this run but had to abandon it half way through as I couldn't breathe properly. But I wouldn't let it beat me!Grin

LookMaOneHand · 15/02/2012 22:53

Hi Everyone! Well done to all the runners, and a special 3 cheers to everyone conquering w5r3!

I am checking in after doing W7r1 - 25 minutes. It was hard, but hard as in "I can't wait til this is over" rather than "I don't think I can do this" - that's a big shift :) And by the end, I wasn't even dying to be finished anymore; I had hit my stride.

I am loving this. Keep going, everyone - not too long until we have our first finishers!

yehudiwho · 15/02/2012 23:00

need some arse kicking positive reinforcement. did r1 wk5 last Tuesday and havent been since Shock
had a big toe crisis but that got better 3 days ago- keep talking about going out but find a reason to sit on my arse and watch crap TV.

have I blown out Laura ?

nomorecake · 15/02/2012 23:36

yehudiwho- you have worked too hard to just stop now. its not too late, I had a delayed start to wk6, and loss my motivation quite a bit.

but I completed wk6 run3 25mins today.
do lots of things to motivate yourself. remind yourself why you are doing this, for example I have a good look at my muffin top, pull out the dress I want to get back in, think about summer in the park running around with dc. the swimwear I need buy.
remind yourself of how much progress you made from wk1 to wk5. whatever inspires or motivates you.

if that doesnt get you in the mood. go into autopilot, put trainers on, head out the door. you'll be ok when you are out.
you ran in worse weather than this.

remember you CAN do it!
and when its over, you will feel amazing.
sofa and tv cant give you that feeling.
Smile
i'll shut up now.

yehudiwho · 15/02/2012 23:39

nomorecake are you Laura?

turningitaround · 16/02/2012 06:50

Yay for cece and vajazzler on w5r3 - no you're on the home strait. cinammon - get well soon.

I did w8r1 last week in my lunch hour yesterday. It's the second time I've been out from work, in town. Some of you will remember that the first time (w2 ish) I was terrified of bumping into colleagues, which I did - in buckets. This time I was far less bothered and when I got to the park I wasn't even too intimidated by the hardcore run guys (although did check to see which way everyone was running round the park, so could go in opposite direction and avoid too much humiliating lapping Wink).

I feel SO much better physically than 8 weeks ago and although I haven't lost much weight (2.5 Kg), I've gone down a trouser size and a good couple od inches around waist.

Looking forward to runs 2 and 3 on Fri and Sun.

turningitaround · 16/02/2012 06:56

Duuh now you're on the home straight ....

cinnamongreyhound · 16/02/2012 07:48

When I'm struggling I jus think of how great I feel when I've completed a run yehudiwho! That is such a great feeling it's worth the slog through the runs. I am really enjoying it now and feel so much better all the time, more energy, more positive and genuinely more muscular through the flab! It's so worth it, get your gear on and get out!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone am feeling so much more human today. Still really bunged up with cough but otherwise feel fine, may leave running until tomorrow so I dont totally knacker my body!

So many of us on weeks 5, 6, 7 and 8 now, so exciting and well done everyone! Have looked at that park run link and seriously thinking about it as soon as I'm confident I can cover 5K.

cece · 16/02/2012 08:00

I looked at the my local parklink - the fastest woman was 5km in 23 mins. The slowest was 40 mins, so will need a while before I feel fast enough to give it a go!

I covered 1.5 miles in 20 mins last night ! LOL, so slightly faster than a snail!

gettingalifenow · 16/02/2012 08:11

I'm still going here, much to my surprise. Did w5 r1 yesterday and it was ok!

I'm actually looking forward to being able to do the first 20 minute non stop in a couple of runs time... Never thought i'd say the words 'looking forward' in that context!

arabellacaterpillar · 16/02/2012 08:25

Hello ladies, checking in did w7 run1 last night. Was dreading the 25 mins all day but actually it was fine - got into a rhythm and got on with it!
A question......how do you measure the distance you are covering, a pedometer or is there an app to do it?

MetalSian · 16/02/2012 09:08

Try runkeeper ara.
It seems most people on here are using it.

I find it quite good Smile.

noseynoonoo · 16/02/2012 09:27

I did Wk7 R1 today. It did seem to go on for ever. I think the challenge for me is just keeping going. I believe I have the physical ability to do it but it's keeping your mind occupied that is the struggle for me. I use the humiliation that I would feel having to tell you lot my husband that I had failed to complete a run.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/02/2012 09:57

I don't worry so much about speed cece, but more about whether I could actually complete the full 5K as I have only managed 4K so far although I guess I could walk bits.

I use runkeeper app too arabellacaterpillar and it's very good, although mine had a slight blip last week when it told me I had run 10.78Km!!!! I like it as it tells you every 5 mins how far you've run and your average speed, nice to see the 5 min blocks slipping by when you're on the longer runs :)

I use it as time to let my mind NOT be occupied noseynoonoo! It's lovely to have a period of the day to let my thoughts wander and not have remember x,y or z, very theraputic! I think that's why I'm leaning away from Laura and towards my own music as it's much more enjoyable with my own music!
