We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

W3r3 done in the pissing down snow. Was wet through lol week 4 next or stay on w3 a bit? Not nailed it at all lol

cocoachannel · 09/02/2012 22:57

Damn I decided to Shred again today and run in the morning, Should have checked the weather forecast....

cocoachannel · 09/02/2012 23:00

Hope DS is okay Queengeek. We has the same thing with DD and had to wean early. She is nearly one and loves her food, but is still quite slow at gaining weight (takes after her tall, slim Dad!). It all the nervy she burns off with speedy crawling and not sleeping through...!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 10/02/2012 07:29

Going to do W2R2 later this morning, hope i can manage to run the whole 90sec's or i may repeat W2, as i can see me progressing to W3 at all at this point, never mind W5,W6 etc...... Sad

Will report how i get on.

queen hope your DS is ok.

Jnice · 10/02/2012 07:33

geekmum sorry to hear about your DS. How old is he? You've probably mentioned before but I have a brain like a sieve right now. My yds is 16 wks.

I too have now had a week off Sad started with cough/cold and now I'm really dizzy. I feel like I'm on a boat all the time. Maybe an ear infection. Anyway, I am hoping to restart 6 next week too.

Jnice · 10/02/2012 07:34

cinnamon well done! Keep it up!

bluechik · 10/02/2012 08:29

QRGM sorry to hear that you're having a tough time with DS, hope he is fine and the situation resolves soon, must be really worrying. Jnice, look after yourself, you'll be out there again before you know it - you really inspired me with all that running behind your buggy - not sure I could have done it!

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 09:21

Oh no, I'm due to run the big one, week 5, run 3 today...20 mins of running!! I've been psyching myself up and now the bloody snow has come and put a stop to that. I'm hoping it clears from the pavement as the day goes on. I too have been using "well I go running 3 times a week" as a bit of an excuse for treats (5 jaffa cakes last night) Thats really interesting what someone was saying about dropping a dress size but putting on pounds. I used some of those fancy scales that measure your fat/water/muscle yesterday so hopefully that will be a good tool for keeping me motivated even if i'm not losing weight.

LookMaOneHand · 10/02/2012 09:44

MadeInScotland I think we almost all felt that way, don't worry! I didn't think in week 2 that weeks 5 and 6 looked remotely possible - please keep at it and you'll be as amazed as the rest of us have been.

Doesn't matter if you have to repeat weeks, you won't be the first one. Just keep with it!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 10/02/2012 10:40

Thanks for your comments ladies.

Jnice he's 5 months old, so we were planning on weaning soon anyway.

Cocoa DH is also long and lean, 6'2" and 10st despite eating like a horse and never exercising. Hoping that's why ds is so skinny! I otoh just have to look at a chocolate biscuit to put on weight Blush

I will keep popping by to read your comments, running's been a great release for me so don't want to give up but am taking a sensible breather. Good luck snow runners!

Queen that's tough, poor wee man. hope he gets better soon.

Madein i have to have some time off as my scar is as painful as it was 2 weeks after the section. Never had issues with healing before so it's making me a little nervy. I'm going to join myfitnesspal to do a food diary.

noseynoonoo · 10/02/2012 11:17

QueenGeek - sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it.

It snowed a fair bit here last night so I had to drive a fair way to find somewhere to run. It was Wk6 R1. I found it a bit disappointing after the high of the 20 minute run. I'm so glad that I found somewhere to run.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2012 11:35

Lots of us found w6r1 difficult noseynoonoo!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders several people have repeated weeks and it really is amazing how the plan works and you CAN progress to the next week. I struggled with the first few weeks but am now running 25 minutes, it's amazing!

Sorry to hear your not feeling better Jnice, get to the dr if you think it's an ear infection and get some antibiotics quick!

Sorry to hear you've been at the hospital QueenRunningGeekMum and hope the new formula plus weaning helps, I am a firm believer in children settling at what is right for them and although there obvioulsly are causes for concern some children are just smaller and some are bigger. If that wasn't the case there would be no 0.4th and 98th centiles! My ds1 was huge and when bf no-one had any concerns as soon as I weaned him they were hassling me to cut down on everything and it caused me so much stress. Ds2 is happily settled on 75th centile and no-one is vaguely interested in what he eats, although he eats much less fruit and veg than ds1 ever did!

Hope you heal quickly AltShiftDelete, perhaps you should check out a possible infection?

I'm really fed up of the snow, am walking around everywhere as dh has the car as he can't take his bike to work and have to go to school 3 times a day with single or double buggy and it took a lot of motivation to get out and run last night. So glad it's almost the weekend and will be half term next week!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 10/02/2012 12:46

onehand,Altshift and cinnamon and every one else for the encouragement, i would just like to say W2R2 is complete and not only that i ran each run fully including 2 inclines hills, and the last one i could of ran a smiggen further if Laura did not say to slow down. I did take my uber slim SIL along with me, so maybe the though of not showing myself up infront of her spurred me along! Either way i feel fab, so thanks again this thread is so inspiring and any time i feellike not going because of the snow/ice/cold or wind i ust think of you lot that go out regardless and tell myself to man up!

Well off now to order new running clobber as a treat.

spiderbabymum · 10/02/2012 13:40

Ifancy know how u feel .getting ready for week 5 run 3 tomorrow .aaaaaaaaah .how did it go .surely it just gets really hard from here on .......and i will be forced into wimping out .

Ps any advice on warm black running leggins appreciated .....

strawberrypie · 10/02/2012 15:14

Just a quick one- I got my running gear from Aldi- very reasonably priced, I've got cycling stuff from there too in the past and it has been ok quality, not quite as nice as the expensive brands but fine for me.

W4 R1 tonight.......I'm really looking forward to running for a bit longer. I certainly need to as I have somehow eaten 4 club biscuits today, oopps! :)

strawberrypie · 10/02/2012 15:15

Oh forgot to say- I wear thermal base layers (for skiing) under my running leggins and top (again they were an Aldi bargain!)

Ifancyanewname · 10/02/2012 16:45

spiderbabymum, i havent been out yet, i like going out under the cover of darkness! im going out about 7, ill be back on later to update. not pleased to hear week 6 r1 is one people are struggling with!

jchocchip · 10/02/2012 17:00

I love aldi, got some of dds ski stuff for school trip from there and myself a £8.99 heart rate monitor. Did week 7 run 2 this morning, don't think I said. Ran much further than last time I ran near Mum's house, and it was icy today, three people warned me! I wore my spike things and felt confident. Dh did his run at home alone, so I'm still really proud of him. Especially as he is 20 stone...

montague · 10/02/2012 18:44

Finished the third run of week 2 - not too bad - but for some reason shins still a bit sore, particularly the left leg. Don't know why one should hurt more than the other, must be wonky I guess.

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 10/02/2012 19:07

montague if your shin hurts like its an ache in the bone, then it may be shin splints (i had this last year after starting the shred), doc said to just exercise through it and it will go in time (i have had no trouble since running and im only 1 run behind you).

Also i ordered some Karrimor running tights, long sleeve top and some running shorts to wear over the top as i would feel abit naked otherwise i think! from sports direct and it was all bargain's £21 including the £4 delivery.

think i may replace my trainers after half term.

arabellacaterpillar · 10/02/2012 19:28

Just back in from W6R2 tonight, went well and i'm feeling great now - showered and glass of red wine in my hand!!
Sorry to hear about your problems Queengeek and Jnice I'm sure you'll be back up to speed in no time at all :)

debka · 10/02/2012 20:46

Sorry to be MIA for a while, we were on holiday. Got out for one run, and out again tonight, did wk6 r2 twice. Better move onto r3 next

geekmum DD2 never saw a dr [neglectful mother] but she went from the 99th centile at birth down to the 2nd at 5mo. She was so skinny and small. I weaned her at 5.5mo and she hasn't stopped eating yet at 12mo. Now on the 50th centile and healthy, happy, bouncing baby. Some babies just need solid food ime.

LookMaOneHand · 10/02/2012 21:12

Well done MadeInScotland !! Great to read you're already doing more than you thought you could. It's an amazing feeling, isn't it?!

Ifancyanewname don't worry about w6r1 - I was one who posted that it was tough, but that was my own fault. After the 20mins straight of w5r3, I peeked ahead, saw that week 6 was back to shorter intervals, and expected it to be a breeze!

I was wrong, it wasn't, but that was all down to the fact that I let myself get cocky after week 5 :)

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2012 21:15

I did the same OneHandWavingFree, started too quickly and the second run was a killer! There was someone else who said the same not sure who it was now though.
