Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

IT dammit, not IN!

thederkinsdame · 21/01/2012 19:44

asea my DS has hyper mobility as well. I'm sure if you take it easy it will help. We were told stronger muscles support the joints better. Well done for sticking with it!

Aseaandthreestars · 21/01/2012 20:28

Yep, the stronger the muscle, the less strain on the ligament. And it's really important to keep the range of movement you've got.

It isn't the worst thing to have and I started from scratch last year and did the Race for Life last July (5k in 36 minutes), so it is manageable. And if my toes subluxate, then I just tape them up Smile

parttimedomesticgoddess · 21/01/2012 20:40

W3R3 done here. Am feeling sooo pleased with myself for going to the gym this morning before my 3 hour shift at Asda, especially as I am on day 2 of a nasty period Smile

rusmum · 21/01/2012 20:49

Yay! Did week 2 r 1 . After 7 week 1 runs and a disaster hobble home run! Feel great. It killed me but I did it! Grin knees held out. Still hurt but better than they were. I WILL get there!

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 21/01/2012 21:36

Well done parttime and rusmum, yes you will get there rusmum :)

BettySuarez · 21/01/2012 21:47

Well done rusmum - good for you Smile

Kewcumber · 22/01/2012 00:08

Well done Rusmum. My plan is to walk 30 mins tomorrow (gently) then do an acqua class on Monday then if all OK to try W1R1 again on Tuesday - I will judge from there how to proceed (assuming I get that far).

Asea I also have hypermobile joints (no syndrome) but only selective joints are hypermobile whilst other joints are hypomobile (if thats the right word!). So hypermobile knees and elbows but stiff ankles. Have had terrible problems in particular with my knees over the years but nothing for several years - my rheumatologist tells me its one of the few joint conditions that improve with age as you get more stiff with age. Ten years ago I couldn't have attempted this (despite actually being fitter) so being a nearly 47 year old has its advantages!

VelmaKelly · 22/01/2012 02:43

Wk4r3 done this morning. Went a bit slower and managed the runs much more successfully. Really chuffed!!!!

MoneyBunny · 22/01/2012 09:39

Ran for the first time in daylight, didn't like it. Much prefer to be able to hide in darkness.

turningitaround · 22/01/2012 10:05

Everyone is doing so well! Me too, am just about to go out on W4R1 . I just wanted to quickly check in to add some info about the apps. Apologies if someone has already said this in the last 100 or so posts.

When I updated my app, which I had downloaded a year or so ago, its name changed - from 'C25K' to 'ease into 5k' and, I think the programme changed as well - in silly little ways (so the runs on week 3 are the inverse of the runs on the official C25K programme - you start with 3 mins and then do 90 secs. Daft). I think this is because the cool running team, who came up with the original plan, have now protected it legally and are getting more serious about pursuing copycats.

The good news is that cool running now have their own app, which costs 99p, so hardly the world (although it does say for a limited time only), and lets you use your own playlist, as well as using the official programme. I've swapped to it, and it's fine (you can even chose between nice friendly female voices and a stroppy male one...)

Off for a run now (looks so good written down).

QueenRunningGeekMum · 22/01/2012 11:01

Just back from w4 r1 - and survived! Had to slow it right down for the last 5 min run but kept going till the end Grin

And just weighed myself - down to 93.3kg so am well chuffed! Grin

Thanks for the app info - I'll probably get it for after I've finished - unless one of the female voices is Laura? I want to continue my running affair with her Blush

DorisIsWaiting · 22/01/2012 11:56

w3 r1 last night felt comfotable, even the music sounded ok!

thederkinsdame · 22/01/2012 11:57

Morning everyone. turning I might have a look at that. I like Laura but the musicon wk2 is beyond dire. I was laughing during the 5 min warmup cos to me the music sound like something out of trumpton or camberwick green

MoneyBunny · 22/01/2012 12:59

Queen I'm near the same weight as you, 88,9 kg. What are you trying to get down to?

My goal is 75 kg so trying to eat less as well as exercising. But I find running far easier than staying away from the biscuits!

thestringcheesemassacre · 22/01/2012 13:35

thederkins I've been thinking about you all day and i was wondering if you should pop in and see your gp about your health and doing this quite intense exercise. Recovering from such a serious illness must be very hard.

Keep on going everyone else. I start week 6 tomorrow.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/01/2012 14:07

I was 95Kg at the beginning of november MoneyBunny and have managed to get down to 83Kg so far, the running is definitely shifting weight quicker! I am trying to keep my calories between 1200 and 1400 a day at the moment but still eating things I like, just one biscuit instead of a packet. I am aiming to get my weight into the normal range, bmi wise, which is 68Kg. Seems a long way off!!

I am feeling really crappy today :( I'm sure it's hormones but I am either at the point of ripping someone's head off or crying my eyes out. Plus I've got a horrible headache and dh said I look exhausted (don't actually feel it), so hoping a run a bit later will lift my mood.

MoneyBunny · 22/01/2012 14:58

Bloody well done, cinnamon! That's incredible!

I'm swappong two meals a day to slim fast and having dinner with the family, whatever they eat. I do make sure half my plate is veg. I've lost 1 kg so far (two weeks), have not been able to stick to it every day.

I'm quite tall so only have to go under 78 kg to be within the normal range bmi wise.

MoneyBunny · 22/01/2012 14:59

I'm sure a run will make you feel better btw, or paracetamol woth lots of water.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 22/01/2012 15:56

MoneyBunny I started at 98kg on the 26th dec, am currently 93.3kg and am hoping to get to 70kg to have a bmi of 25. It seems a long way away at the moment, especially as I can't overdo dieting as still ebf and in the knowledge that weight loss always slows down.

But I am enjoying the running so hopefully will be able to push forward with getting fitter no matter what happens with my weight!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 22/01/2012 15:58

Cinnamon you are an inspiration!

Jnice · 22/01/2012 16:34

cinnamon, money & geek - well done!

My youngest is 3 months today. I don't know where the time went! Today I'm going to try fit yoga in and then w4r2. My shoulders are a terrible mess from bf and rocking my lo to sleep. Somehow DH has to fit a football match in too and we have 3 boys to juggle Grin

MetalSian · 22/01/2012 16:39

W3R3 completed.

Dreading next week but my dad might run some runs with me ;P.

He puts me to shame, has been going to the gym for 9 months at 52.
I'm 20 and can't do anywhere near as much as him!
But he does say running is one of the things he is worst at so I hope he won't make me feel too bad.
We are aiming to do the 3 mile sports relief run nearest to us together so I have some motivation.

Well done everyone else who keeps going.
You are all very inspirational, I am only short and weigh around 62kg but this is after putting on around a stone after having DS and I am so unfit its ridiculous.
Thinking of all you ladies putting so much work into this forces me into getting out there.
If you can do it so can I and I should probably stop moaning about it ;P.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/01/2012 17:59

Thank you all! The run did help, went in daylight so I could run in the forest. It was very peaceful and my doggy was much more chilled, plus it's easier on the knees and I only passed one person while running.

We are on the same run Jnice but my youngest is 16 months! It does go so quickly :(. Dh and I are arranging my running is his weight training aroun each other as on week days neither of us can start until 6.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/01/2012 18:03

That's pretty good going QueenRunningGeekMum!
