Dukan? Big con or big loss?

PosieParker · 29/12/2011 09:30

I've never dieted, never needed to. Mainly because my appetite kicks in and I lose all baby weight, three times. BUT not the fourthSad in fact I'm now putting it on. I'm shattered all of the time and I've never drank so much booze (der...yes I know!!)

Before children I was underweight, size 4....then after baby 1 I was pg after five months,. After dc2 I took about a year to be a small 8...(I'm short so good size), after dc3 I went back to an 8, took a year. DC4 is three and I've got back to a small ten but my clothes are tight now, I'm probably a 12...which is very fat at my height,.

Anyone think Dukan can work for someone with no willpower?

I am woefully unprepared for this, haven't read the book & am sitting on sofa 'finishing up' the Christmas quality street...

skirt · 01/01/2012 21:20

me too snapes - and the half bottle of rose that was in the fridge. I will start tomorrow by going to Sains and buying meat and oat bran. MMMMM can't wait :D

mrspnut · 01/01/2012 21:52

I'd also suggest buying lots of muller fat free vanilla yoghurt, it helps when you are a bit peckish. I usually have yoghurt and oat bran for breakfast then ham and cheese omelette or egg and turkey rashers for lunch.

Memoo · 01/01/2012 23:31

Can I join too please? I'm 13 stone ATM and really want to get down to 10 stone again.
Posie, could you send me the PDF of the book please?

trickydickie · 01/01/2012 23:54

Have also sent a pm. Thanking you in advance Posieparker.

I know this is a long shot = does anyone know if you can have red wine on this diet?

PosieParker · 02/01/2012 09:21

Thanks for the pdf posie. I have a new computer and have not got access to pdf yet. Will get dh to sort it tomorrow.

The wine thing is a bummer. We have friends coming over tonight (I am in Scotland, so we are all still off tomorrow!!). So drinking tonight, and then going out on Friday to catch up with friends I haven't seen for months.

Also, still have loads of chocs, biscuits and a huge steak pie to finish off.

Back to the alcohol thing. Seriously, no wine? Or just no wine whilst on the first stage thing? Do you see I have a theme going here? Wine?

Good luck to all those starting this week.

Emmac50 · 02/01/2012 10:37

I found the Dukan diet good lost 5lbs in first stage and then 1-2 lbs thereafter. Only problem it's so restrictive that most people fall off the wagon. The recipes in the book are nice including the floating islands. If you are on facebook there's a really good source of info on there plus support with ideas for meals. Don't bother with the online web site as its really expensive for what it is. South beach diet is good as it includes veg for every meal. I've realised that my issue is more my relationship with food so have got the Paul McKenna book. I've already started eating less. Best of luck!!x Smile

40thisisit · 02/01/2012 10:38

tricky am watching the Wine answer with vested interest? Hope that Tesco's sells oatbran as that's where I'm off to shortly.

Emmac50 · 02/01/2012 10:54

No wine or any other alcohol till 3rd stage x

mrspnut · 02/01/2012 11:13

It is like any other diet, you need to make it work for you. I had no alcohol for the first few weeks but have since had a few glasses on a Saturday night.

I also tend to slip very slightly by having the odd Yorkshire pudding or sweet potato. I tend to work on an 80/20 split. As long as I am very strict 80% of the time, I can have a little slip so long as it isn't more than 20% of the time.

PosieParker · 02/01/2012 11:27

Starting tomorrow, going to Sainsbury's today to get oatbran!!

trickydickie · 02/01/2012 12:13

Emma thanks for the wine info. Agree with others about making the diet work for you and the 80/20 split.

I can live without the wine for a few weeks. Hmm

Posie - good luck for tomorrow. I will be following your effort with interest as I intend to start next Monday. Two of my kids will be back at school and we will all hopefully be back to a normal routine.

Dh is in his work, printing off 316 pages of the dukan diet for me. I am hoping he has a wee nosey at it, and decides to do it with me.

PosieParker · 02/01/2012 18:11

Just enjoying a last night of oranges and booze!!!

I have joined facebook under Posie Parker and will post private pictures and updates, if anyone's interested. May also put it on my blog....which is crap!!

today - breakfast -3 eggs.
lunch - sirloin
tea - turkey breast

i am craving salad! (also having a sneaky glass of wine, sod it, i gave up smoking today as well, something has to give....)

whojamaflip · 02/01/2012 19:36

Hi Posie will join you on Fb - starting diet tomorrow......

Snapespeare Congrats on being a non-smoker Smile I became one today as well - never will I feed the little nicotine craving monster inside again!

Snapespeare · 02/01/2012 20:49

my little nicotine craving monster is having to do with mueller fat free vanilla yoghurt. it is most unhappy! :)

whojamaflip · 02/01/2012 21:03

try and get hold of the Allen Carr book - just finished reading it and I am confident I will not smoke again. Its given me a new mind-set this time - along the lines of "choosing" not to smoke rather than "giving something up".

PosieParker · 02/01/2012 21:31

Well done Snape for doing the two massive shits at the same time!!

Although I have just come back from the hospital visiting my Uncle with incurable cancer and emphysema, all smoking related. It is not pretty. In addition my mother has chronic lung disease, peak flow under 200. You can do it!!!

Will be munching oatbran for breakfast, salmon and eggs for lunch and cold rare beef for dinner!! Plus greek fat free yoghurts!! Diet Coke and a skinny latte to go with the litre of water!!

I may substitute sugar cravings for sex, happy days for MrParker!!

I'm very aware that stopping smoking makes me nibbly & I can't afford to nibble. So if I'm going going to be miserable, I might as well be really miserable. :)

trickydickie · 02/01/2012 22:58

Snakespeare- good luck with the no smoking. I gave up over 7 years ago and honestly, if I can do it anyone can. I also highly recommend the Allen Carr website. Also there was a support website that I used, that I found really helpful. It was American based, maybe all different now.

I drank loads and loads of water to help with the cravings! I also smoked over 40 cigs a day and had smoked for over 20 years. Noone ever thought they would see the days that I was a non smoker. Here I am 7 years later proud as punch.

As I said, if I can do it, then anyone can do it. Good luck, though I am sure you won't need it.

Posie, I will join your facebook group.
