I am at the age where it is just a matter of (short) time before I develop a health problem relating to my weight - joints, Type 2 diabetes or even a heart attack. It really is that serious.
I am sick of not having any "nice" clothes (don't want to invest until I lose weight Hmm).
I did it in summer, stuck to it for ages which is something I have never managed to do. I CAN do it again.

So here's the plan. Back to foodfocus as of tomorrow. No days off (logging, although I may choose to eat more than I am "allowed". Everything must be logged.
No excessive competitiveness with myself. I truly believe this is part of the reason it all went wrong.

3 or 4 lb to lose every week. Might sound a lot but it's easy when you're big - I'm sure I could do it by just eating 3 normal sized usual meals a day. So pathetic if I can't.

Coming back here to report on progress. Caring and supportive thread but not accepting bullshit excuses!
Anyone want to join me?

OOh i love those glitter ive just done a quick nutritional value checker on my online ww and in new points they're 1 point for 1 or 3 points for 2 which isnt too bad!

GlitterKitty · 02/01/2012 21:57

Try them dipped in options hot choc then, Lydia. Mmm. Grin

I cant get my head around new points, I know old points off by heart so sticking with that. Saved 4.5 points yesterday & today too, really hoping I get a result on Sunday morning!

I'm off to bed before I eat anything else!

Rowgtfc72 · 02/01/2012 22:00

Well got weighed and had a pleasant surprise-14st 13lb- had expected nearer 16 as I usually put on nearly a stone over Christmas ! So am sat here celebrating with a whole chocolate orange. Did I say i had willpower issues? Back to work tomorrow so can get a bit of exercise. Could do with dropping 3 stone by the beginning of May to get in the wedding dress I want. Dp got weighed too and think he had a nasty shock, he is 6ft 6 though so can carry the weight, so looks like I may have some competition company.Ladies, please dont dip your pink and whites in your tea, they go all soggy !

GlitterKitty · 02/01/2012 22:01

Not if you shove them stright in your mouth, Row Grin

lydiathetattooedlady · 02/01/2012 22:02

To be honest i dont either! i did the old system and lost quite a bit, got down to 10st then had ds and piled it on! Unfortunately the leader of the club i went to raved on so much about the new system i threw everything away from my old points Sad im hopinh i will get the hang of it this time round!
I shall try dipping them in hot choc, tho im a fan of the ww one its delish!

redstormrising · 03/01/2012 09:12

Well, I weighed this morning and have lost a measly pound. So 10 . 9 now. I am so short though that my BMI is just under 30. But, we always have roast goose for NYEve and then we had a giant (set menu for 4 Blush ) Indian last night for our wedding anniversary so that is possibly (clutching at straws) not too bad. Soups and salads and no bread or stodge for the next week.

back to WW this week too.

redstormrising · 03/01/2012 09:13

Your soup soinds nice Piggles. Might try that!

TheLightPassenger · 03/01/2012 13:20

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 14:39

Hi, can I join? Please tell me if this this is the wrong thread for me to look at what I am doing. Ive read some replies, but couldnt read them all as its sooooo long Grin

Im currently a size 16 for comfort, but can squeeze into a 14. Id like to be a 12 or possibly even a 10 (though will just aim for 12 for now).

Im 5ft5 and last weight on 1st Jan was 12St 4. Ideally I want to be 10st.

My problem is cake and biscuits and coke/pepsi. My other big problem is that Im not a big fan of Veg and even though I like fruit, it never appeals to me as much as a chocolate bar.

I have done SW in the past so am thinking of following along those lines without actually joining. I found before I was paying a fiver just to see my wieght and didnt really get a big benefit out of it. Im quite shy so never plucked up the courage to talk to other people there so was quite boring for me.

My plan is not to change everything overnight, but to do a few things at a time. Ive already cut down on my fizzy drinks to one can per day with my evening meal. I also have started to look at my breakfast. I am going to keep doing that, but I am also going to cut out my evening snack. I find Im eating on a night out of habit, not hunger. I am going to start by cutting this down from everynight to 2 times a week as a treat. So this is my plan for Jan. Have a healthy breakfast everyday, only have one can of fizz a day (the rest of the time will be water or Ribena extra light) and cut down my evening chocolate to twice a week. Also I am going to write down on this thread what I am eating so I can keep track and see what the next thing I can cut down on in Feb (while also sticking to Jan's new habits)

So today I have had:

Banana and Mullerlight Yoghurt for breakfast
Naughty brownie and hot choc's in town (went to two cafe's and had brownie and hot choc in one and hot choc in the other)
A burger and half a bottle of Coke for Lunch (was still in town and they still have the yummy burger stall up Blush)

Will update later.

McPie · 03/01/2012 15:07

Have done a Ripped in 30 and a Killer buns and thighs today and survived, had nowhere to go due to high winds and limited bus service and it was them or ironing! Really glad to be in the swing of things again Smile

MABS · 03/01/2012 15:34

Just had salad, no booze ystdy.Ran 3k on treadmill and did half hour spin class. Tomorrow i will have to miss gym as DS at Guys Hospital for 5 hrs..deep joy, will probably eat crap :(

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 03/01/2012 16:24

Well I have been very up and down so far. I think I am mostly struggling with 2 things (well, apart from making myself exercise, resisting sweet stuff, etc etc Grin):

  1. I am finding the WeightWatchers thing quite hard going because I seem to have been allocated a really quite low number of "points" (I think it is the lowest possible! - anyone know how the allowances are worked out?) and am finding it quite hard to stick to. I think this is partly because I don't believe in too "drastic" dieting - if it was up to me I would cut my calories a bit less and aim to lose weight more gradually but consistently. But I feel like my points are so low they are pretty hard to stick to without being REALLY drastic, which doesn't feel achievable long-term to me.

  2. (Linked to the first) - I definitely have that thing where if I go "wrong" one day and eat more than I'm meant to, I get frustrated and end up pigging out in response Xmas Sad What I especially hate is that it seems quite hard to guess the number of points something will have in before eating it, and a few times I have eaten something that I thought should be quite healthy based on the label or ingredients (e.g. diet-range ready meals with low calorie content) but it has then come up as a surprising lot of points and sent me right off track.

Maybe WW is just not for me? I have managed to lose some weight in the past just by calorie counting and aiming for a somewhat-but-not-drastically reduced number of calories vs. my normal diet, combined with increased exercise. So might go back to that if WW continues to be so hard (but I'll stick with it a bit longer first to see if it gets easier with practise).

On the plus side, I have managed to stay within my points on some days, which must make a difference, and I have also been exercising a lot more in the last few days - have started Shredding again (ouch!) and been swimming too. Also it will surely get easier once the last of the Christmas treats in the house have gone and are no longer tempting me!

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 16:59

Ive just had some Walkers C+O crisps Sad I know they are bad for me, but I was starving. I usually have a snack about now. Will have to get something a bit healthier when I do the weekly shop on Friday. Maybe some Apples or crisps that are better for me like watsits or those healthy ones, cant think what they are called now, but I know what I mean.

Then again Im only cutting down things gradually as I know if I go full hog straight away I'll only give in then think whats the point in doing anything so with the other things Ive cut out for now, its not so bad is it? Hmm not that Im trying to excuse myself or anything

notyummy · 03/01/2012 17:25

notveryinventive - are you veggie? If not, I find cooked chicken great for a snack. Really low calorie and fills you up a lot better than fruit. You could also try some tuna or prawns.

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 17:45

notyummy no Im not a veggie.

Thanks for the idea. (The chicken one, not tuna or prawns yuk)

lydiathetattooedlady · 03/01/2012 18:22

My first day hasnt gone too bad i think, but im very hungry Sad
mynameis i have only just re-started ww online and have noticed that the daily points allowance has gone down since i last attempted it in october. It used to be 29 daily with a weekly of 49. I logged on for first time last night and i have been allocated 26!
today ive had
breakfast-2x ww wholemeal toast with poached eggs
lunch- chicken salad
dinner- tuna pasta salad
naughty-cream egg

and ive gone over my daily allowance with this! Pasta points seem rediculous with 28g being 3 points! my 2 year old needs more than 28g of pasta with his dinner!

So feeling rather upset at this i logged in to myfitness pal that evryone raves about...according to that i still have 191 calories to take me to 1200. I think the weekly allowance is a bit shit and they should do waht they used to and divide them down over the week!
sorry moan over!

notveryinventive · 03/01/2012 18:27

mynameis and lydia Im sure I heard that WW were changing their points system because it was flawed before as they were giving too many points to things that burn more calories than the food had in it so perhaps they give out less points now as some things like fruits etc have less points so you are meant to be eating more of that kind of thing. Just an idea and I might be completely wrong, but its worth thinking about.

I joined SW the other year because I heard pasta was something that was SYN free which it is and I love pasta.

lydiathetattooedlady · 03/01/2012 18:35

On ww you can eat alot of fruit but if im honest the more fruit i eat the hungrier i get!

I have done every diet going, i did sw this time last yera so as above with myfitnesspal, i looked at what ive eaten today compared with sw and i would again have been within my 'syn' allowance but the chicken i could have had more than a small breast and again with the tuna pasta i could have had a rather large portion compared to the small bowl i had...oooh and i could have had grilled bacon and beans with my eggs!!!

mrswoodentop · 03/01/2012 19:09

I found the whole points thing quite depressing with WW plus I found I was hungry which made me more depressed and then I would comfort eat which target defeated the objectBlush

SW seems to suit me better so I am going to give that a go I think

Cluckingmad · 03/01/2012 19:22

I'm doing ww and had pasta tonight 150g of cooked pasta is only 4 propoints, then had veggie bolognaise using quorn for 4 propoints and loads of salad. I can actually say that I am quite full.

mynameis are you using your weekly point allowance too? If not use it thats what it's for the days when you feel you need a little more that your daily allowance, but to be honest its like any weight loss programme its gonna take time for your body to adjust to a new way of eating, hope this helps.

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2012 19:34

Well I'm on day 2, and have been really good. I find a meal that fills me up is piece of Quorn, 2 potatoes, vegetables. Had that yesterday, and its only abt 300 cals.
Am staying in travelodge tonight. Planned out all meals, carefully cal controlled. Now I'm sitting here craving something chocolatey. Shall I go and get something? If I was home I'd have something small. Worry is if I go out ill go mad and binge. I should stay here shouldn't i?

lydiathetattooedlady · 03/01/2012 19:39

i must be a greedy bugger because i measured 56g dry which is 5 points and it seemed such a teeny amount Sad i know it gets bigger as it cooks but it was barely a cupful dry. Will plough through it though, i think i probably have problems with portion size!

GlitterKitty · 03/01/2012 19:40

Its true, the first week is your giant stomach adjusting to the new portion sizes you are having- its loose and it feels empty!

My week 2 its easier (providing you have stuck to your points) because your stomach shrinks.

Tons of veg helps, and notmummy is quite right, protein is more filling than carbs. If you are veggie, or like Quorn, thats really useful- its protein but low fat so very low in points. You can add it to lots of stuff- Quorn sausages are only half a point each- add lots of carrots, broccoli & gravy and it feels like a big dinner!

GlitterKitty · 03/01/2012 19:41

ha ha stealth, x posts on quorn. Grin

have a sachet of hot choc, if there is one in room? might take edge off?

otherwise tea, diet fizzy drink?

dont go out unless you are feeling strong!

notyummy · 03/01/2012 19:43

Yep! Portion size is key. I don't have more than 50g of pasta. It looks small to begin with, but you have to train yourself - put a huge pile of veg/salad on the plate with it so the plate looks full. By the time you have finished it all you will not be hangry.
