Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Well done everyone who refused to give in to temptation!

Next challenge is to get through the weekend, which many of us find harder. We're having friends over for dinner tonight and I'm cooking a nice healthy starter and main course (soup and lamb tagine), will have to restrain myself though when it comes to alcohol and choc pudding. Nothing else food-related planned for this weekend.

I just did a sneaky mid-week weigh in and haven't lost any yet this week, but 4 days to go before my real weigh in!

CupOfBrownJoy · 28/01/2012 08:29

I also had a sneaky weigh in this morning and have a mid week loss of 2.5lb. Its made me determined not to go too mad this weekend for DP's birthday.

One glass of wine tonight and a bit of bread at brunch tomorrow is the maximum I'm allowing myself over and above the usual....

Good luck resisting the temptation this weekend ladies - just think how virtuous you'll feel on Monday!

Vicky08 · 28/01/2012 09:07

Hi everyone, well done on resisting all the temptations, it's hard but you feel so goo afterwards.

I don't have a anything food realated planned for this weekend, DS and DH are ill so we'll just stay in which means I can control all the food, I sound like a right control freak don't I?

A question to those who said they don't want to let anyone know they're trying to loose weight, when it starts to become noticible and people stat to comment, things like "are you on a diet?" etc. what are you going to say to them? I don't mean in 6 months time when it hopefully will be very obvious, I mean in the coming weeks?

fazsaeed · 28/01/2012 09:22

Well I've let mum know I've cut the crap out so when it becomes noticeable I will stand and point and then say
Haha
:)
They don't believe in
Me so it's best I don't let everyone in!

Fairenuff · 28/01/2012 11:42

I have told people I'm dieting but usually I just say something like I'm cutting back on the crap, or I'm aiming to get my 5 a day, or I've been more active recently. All little phrases that people are familiar with and will accept without question.

Actually, even though I say I'm on a diet, I'm really not. I'm just slowly changing to a more healthier lifestyle. But that takes a bit more explaining, so I just say I'm dieting.

fazsaeed if your family try to sabotage you, or mock you in your efforts, just try to remember that is more about how they feel about themselves than it is to do with you. People with good self esteem do not treat others like that. They are supportive and helpful and encouraging. You are doing this for youself, not them. And your ds will grow up without those bad habits, it's a wonderful gift to give him.

CupOfBrownJoy · 28/01/2012 12:01

I just tell people I'm on a diet because I get obsessed with it and want to discuss it with everyone

fazsaeed · 28/01/2012 14:08

So far I've had
Bowl of cereal for breakfast,
Salad with under 1/2 grilled fish and some tuna sweet corn sandwich filler.
Not the healthiest but I'm happy with that. I'm nice and full. Salad took most of my plate up :)

CupOfBrownJoy · 28/01/2012 14:27

well done fazsaeed, that sounds healthy to me!

I've had special k with non fat yoghurt and blueberries, and a WW canned soup for lunch. I've also walked Ddog for around an hour.

Actually I'm quite hungry, I might have a bit of cottage cheese and rice crackers... Confused

Vicky08 · 28/01/2012 14:58

It sounds like you're all having a good day so far. I've just had lunch and I'm so full. I had hm chicken fajitas yum.

Tonight it's a prawn salad for me, I got some lovely looking prawns when I was out shopping this morning. I also bought fish to get me through the week, I have to eat more of it, at the moment I'm eating lots of chicken, I want to swap some of it for fish. Of now to have a look for some healthy fish recipes. If I find anything interesting I'll let you know :)

SparkySparrow · 28/01/2012 15:33

I just tell people I'm on a healthy eating kick. Most people are happy with that.
Had a croissant Blush for breakfast, chicken and coleslaw salad for lunch and I have no idea for dinner yet, possibly some hm soup.

fazsaeed Fairenuff is right. Its the people who are lazy or have low self esteem that don't support you! i have a 'friend' who is overweight and is constantly offering me crap because she knows I'm off it. She diet's and then cheats and then give's up because she's lazy. She hate's it when someone can show a bit of willpower and say no. To be honest, now I'm over the sugar cravings I actually enjoy refusing a piece of her cake just to see her face. Grin

CupOfBrownJoy · 28/01/2012 16:22

thats funny, I waited a while and now the hunger has passed, so I didn't need to snack after all! Smile

TalkinPeace2 · 28/01/2012 16:49

Nobody on this thread is "on a diet"
they are just choosing to eat sensibly from now on for the rest of their lives

says she who had a bit too much to drink last night. Whoops.

fazsaeed · 28/01/2012 20:42

I had 2 mini cakes that I baked with my niece with extra icing but in human and I know mistakes will be made. Not done too bad otherwise. Going to have some fruit before my antibiotics.
How's everyone doing?

Fairenuff · 28/01/2012 21:07

fazsaeed it might be a good idea to stay away from baking for a while, too tempting. What could you make together instead. Fruit salad? Or stay away from food entirely and take her swimming or for a walk/bike ride?

fazsaeed · 28/01/2012 22:28

Her dad is very over protective lol. She was begging me.
I've had salad for tea and fruit and velvet crisps ( 83 cals) I really do recommend them to anyone who does need a snack that's filling but low on cals.

Fairenuff · 28/01/2012 22:42

What do you mean fazsaeed? Would he not let her out of the house with you?

fazsaeed · 28/01/2012 23:11

It's been cold and she's got a bad chest he'd rather she stayed in atm.
And the little princess wanted to bake and that's what we did. Mum even made a chicken salad today
My thoughts are rubbing off on her :)

putyourhatonsweetie · 29/01/2012 03:57

hello. scales have not moved for me this week [sigh] but good news with the tape measure at least. torrential rain here today and don't feel like doing much. hope you are all having more fun than me today!

Vicky08 · 29/01/2012 11:58

Hi all, putyourhatonsweetie if you are passing the tape measure test I wouldn't worry about what the scales say this week, the main thing is you are trying and your body is changing for the better.

Tomorrow is my weigh in day so trying to be good today. Has scrambled eggs and wholemeal toast for breakfast, roast chicken, veg and SW chips for lunch and for dinner I've no idea.

I'm taking DD to the cinema this afternoon and I'm worried about the popcorn, she loves it and it seems unfair not to get her some because I don't want to be tempted. Is it really that bad?

Vicky08 · 29/01/2012 11:59

Forgot to say that I've actually done some exercise today, 30 mins on the exercise bike, afterwards I wanted to die but I feel good. I'm going to try and do 30 mins everyday.

CupOfBrownJoy · 29/01/2012 12:15

Vicky popcorn (the salted stuff) is actually very low in cals - I would go for it as a special treat...

I went to brunch with DP and was very good - only had some ham and scrambled eggs. Although that was partly because I'm not sleeping too well at the moment so I really didn't feel much like eating....

Fairenuff · 29/01/2012 12:29

I would steer clear of the popcorn as it's empty calories and added salt is not good (especially if you have high blood pressure). I do love it and it smells so gorgeous but is there something else you could take with you to much on? A bag of grapes perhaps?

fazsaeed · 29/01/2012 12:45

Well done vicky for exercising
I love the feeling you get after exercising but I haven't got any machines my exercise ATM is staying away from crap food, walking and running around after ds.
1 step at a time lol

TalkinPeace2 · 29/01/2012 12:56

the best exercise is walking - briskly so that you get slightly out of breath, for about ten minutes at least once a day every day
or in my case this morning shovelling buckets of compost to mulch flower beds!

Vicky
if you can, snack on nothing. Its a psychological need to eat at the cinema, not a physical one. Your body is more than capable of going a couple of hours without fresh calorie intake. Be strong.

CupOfBrownJoy · 29/01/2012 13:37

or sip a coffee? Gives you something to do, and doesn't spoil the diet....
