the final push - anyone else close to goal and needing a kick up the bum?

handbagsandshoes · 13/10/2011 20:25

I have been slowly but surely eating healthily all the way down to my initial goal and am now nearly at my "yippeee!!!!" goal. But, although I am obviously smaller and getting lots of great comments I am getting bored/losing motivation. I want to lose another 7 pounds (was less but have just jumped up a little this last couple of weeks Blush )

I don't want to hear stop now. This is totally do-able but I need a bit of a final push.

Care to join me?

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 14/10/2011 13:25

I'll join.

Another 7lbs would do me nicely.

Down to 11st from 13.4 in April. Although a nasty bug last week got shot of a few more pounds than intended...

Back to the gym this week and trying to steer clear of the beer over the weekend

handbagsandshoes · 16/10/2011 09:10

Brilliant Seagull you have done brilliantly so far!
Nice to have a partner, let the kick begin!

Starting my day with porridge and am going for a walk later.
What day shall we weigh-in?

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 16/10/2011 13:08

Sounds good.

Congrats on your loss too - it's a great feeling to get those positive comments. What's worked for you?

Been to the gym this morning for just over an hour - got through one afternoon play and twenty minutes of Desert Island Discs!

Eating too much bread at the moment though - will try and cut down next week. When I started I stuck to low-carb quite religiously, but it's got a lot more flexible as I've neared the target.

How about weigh-ins on Saturday?

handbagsandshoes · 16/10/2011 14:52

Well done for gym-ing. I don't go I'm afraid, not such a keen gym person, and too many dc's to manage it regularly anyway. I am trying to get outside and also vigorously do housework - I always feel so much better with fresh air. The school run usually gets me moving and I love a long walk with music blasting in my ears!

I have tried to eat healthy fresh food with little to no sugar and wholegrains. The good old-fashioned approach to eating. Works better for me to eat like that than try to be faddy, I don't do too well with denial so schedule in something delicious towards the end of the week. Well, that is how it has been until recently but I have been too piggy lately!

Saturday weigh-ins sounds fab - fingers crossed.

I'll post my day's food later - I was using myfitnesspal for a wee while and found that really helpful but since I cook most things from scratch is was a pain to enter everything thing in. But keeping tabs does work for me - so I figure I'd write it down here. Hope that is okay?

OP posts:
handbagsandshoes · 16/10/2011 14:53

p.s. big radio 4 fan here too!

OP posts:
handbagsandshoes · 16/10/2011 20:10

Can't be faffed to write down what I had today but good day and went for a walk. Sliding back into the groove hopefully.

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 17/10/2011 14:21

No probs - I had a go at myfitnesspal too, but like you, there are far too many ingredients that go into home-cooked meals to make it time-efficient! Not one for measuring things down to the last ounce either...

Had an apple with yoghurt for breakfast and leftover lasagne for lunch. Probably a sausage casserole for dinner. Oh, and a slice of chocolate cake earlier on, but they were selling them for Cancer Research, so it was rude not to :)

handbagsandshoes · 17/10/2011 20:07

Definitely rude not to! Smile

Good day today until this evening when I probably had too much dinner (a bit of bacon and tons of veges in a tomato sauce with pasta) after scoffing nibbling the courgette while it was cooking. And yes, I know, shouldn't beat myself up, how bad can courgette be???

This time of day is my downfall - serving a moderate dinner and then not having seconds - I try to eat a good lunch and then afternoon tea (esp protein, today I had a hard boiled egg!) but sometimes I just can't resist, tiredness I think.

Have a poorly toddler here too which hasn't helped. Breastfed nearly all night long last night hence my tiredness and no doubt actual hunger too! Might be another night of the same so I am heading to bed early.

handbagsandshoes · 18/10/2011 19:48

Thank goodness tomorrow is another day.

B. porridge
S. carrot and hummous, semi-skimmed latte, dried fig
L. salad, sweetcorn, wee 0% greek yog with smidge of rasberry jam and nuts, apple, another dried fig
S. slice of wholemeal bread, apple, at least several spoonfuls of delicious homemade chicken and vege soup that was cooking for dinner
D. chicken & vege soup (and then a bit more)

Healthy but not terribly moderate portions....resisted choc chip biscuits and more bread with dinner so that is something.

Must remember to think before I pick at the cooking tomorrow!
Helps me to plan my food and look forward to it - so planning something delicious for tomorrow and a big walk.

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 18/10/2011 20:43

Hope you slept better last night - give yourself some slack - body needs energy!

Sounds very healthy to me, including portions (I know I only get grumpy if I start eating less).

B. muesli with plain yoghurt
S. banana
L. beef stew, green beans and dumplings from canteen. Bit stodgy and salty - a one-off!
D. homemade lasagne (again - finished it now - honest...)

Lots of water, 2 black coffees.
40 minute gym session this morning. Legs feeling twingey. In a good way.

Feel I need a few more veggies tomorrow to balance things up.

handbagsandshoes · 19/10/2011 20:25

Had a good day - lots of snacks but was raw veges and fruit for the most part and walked and walked and walked doing school run and jobs in town.

Just had a slice of wholemeal toast with Lemon curd on - couldn't resist. Probably okay overall though, had a small portion of stir-fry for dinner, not enough to go around with visitors Blush I thought it looked fine until I started serving it to big hungry men...

I am cold though, the massive downside to getting slimmer!! Smile As long as I don't "toast and lemon curd" my way to warmth.

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 20/10/2011 20:03

Yes, I'm not good with cold at the best of times. Even the extra padding didn't seem to have any effect!

Ok couple of days - made a vast quantity of lentil and spinach soup yesterday which did us for lunch and dinner.

And cough 2 pints of beer cough.

handbagsandshoes · 20/10/2011 20:31

It's bloody hard this bum kicking thing isn't it? You and your beer and me and my damned lemon curd calling to me. Thank goodness it is nearly all gone.... Blush

We are holding off on turning on the heating and it isn't nice. I do like a cosy home. Still, I've had a read at the heating thread on mumsnet and feel inspired to hold out. For now.

Right. One more day until WI. Doesn't it just sneak up on you, the end of the week? Definitely, definitely no lemon curd tomorrow. And no beer for you. Grin

Okey-doke: 11st 1lb first thing this morning. Happy with that - seems to have stabilised after losing 4lbs very rapidly when thumped with a virus a couple of weeks ago. And then gaining a couple back almost immediately afterwards.

In the past I've found that I don't lose anything for weeks, and then the scales will suddenly shift downwards a few pounds. Hoping it'll be a bit more of a steady progress now I'm actually recording it!

Back in the habit of going to the gym every other day, which seems to be working ok.

Yesterday not particularly healthy food-wise - too much bread - but stocked up the fridge today, so will plan meals ahead for a few days. Hopefully I'll stick to it!

handbagsandshoes · 23/10/2011 10:02

Couldn't get near the computer yesterday. 2 pounds down so another 6 and a wee bit to go. Was over my 7 pounds target when we actually kicked off. Was a funny week because toddler was poorly and upped feeding esp at night so impossible to stick to moderate portions because hungry and tired. let's hope this one is a bit more straight-forward!

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 23/10/2011 14:51

2lbs per week is pretty impressive at this stage of the game - not sure I'm going to be able to match that!

Made a lovely macaroni cheese last night and had far too much of it. But made up for it with lots of salad today and chicken fajitas tonight.

I'll knuckle down this week and see what comes off. I'm lucky in that I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so snacking on bad things is never much of an issue (one-off chocolate cake notwithstanding!).

Now the odd glass of something - that's much more tricky to curtail! But I'll set my sights on next weekend and will try not to indulge for the next six days.

Hope your little one is much better next week.

BrummieSeagull · 25/10/2011 21:50

No exercise today, but diet back on track.

B: pineapple & plain yoghurt
L: salad + chicken breast
D: Pork curry

Plus lots of water. The lunch didn't really fill me up though. Might have something more substantial tomorrow.

I'm getting a little demoralized - I've been hovering just over 11st for about 6 weeks and it doesn't seem to be shifting!

handbagsandshoes · 28/10/2011 23:29

I haven't disappeared! holiday time and the week has flown by.

Hang in there Seagull, maybe your body is catching up with the idea of getting slimmer and will decide to let a bit more go soon. Have you thought about trying something totally out of the norm? like a different type of exercise, meal or something? Just to have a change of scene.

I've had a good week. More sleep has been great and without the school run I am not rush rush rushing every day. We've been getting out and about to walk and run about and I've been cleaning and moving furniture when at home. Strangely I have been less hungry, maybe it is the extra sleep???
Anyhow, hoping for good things tomorrow.

BrummieSeagull · 30/10/2011 16:46

Forgot to weigh-in yesterday - oops.

But went on the scales this morning and no change since last week. Oh well.

Might try mixing it up a bit at the gym - try a step-machine or something. That sounds like it could kill the legs for a few days!

Diet's been pretty good, not sure what else I can do on that front. I don't want to start cutting things out entirely, although I'm sticking to the no-alcohol-during-the-week palaver for the moment Grin

Sounds like you had a good week - well done!

handbagsandshoes · 04/11/2011 15:35

We have people staying so getting to the computer has been tricky. I wonder how you are getting on?

Am sticking to healthy eating/portions and walking loads with the odd treat too. Today has been tricker, gloomy weather and tired. Not a good mix for me. Vege soup cooking for dinner so I'll have a bowl with no extras for dinner and hopefully it will all balance out. I am starting to feel very fine about saving treats for later and eating a little less now because I know that we are having so and so for dinner etc. It is great to eat mostly with my mind engaged rather than my mouth/emotions doing the driving! Let's hope this state of mind continues....

Still dropping albeit slowly. As of today 4 1/2 pounds to go. Finding that my small clothes I am now wearing are slowly getting baggier - totally amazed that I am managing this but my new size is starting to all feel very normal. Loving the boost in energy and confidence. I wonder if I will actually get to my goal and justify some new clothes??! Grin

BrummieSeagull · 07/11/2011 11:34

Hiya - away for a few days last week.

Sadly, nothing much to report. Weight is sticking fast. But...I think I am getting slimmer around the waist - belt needs another notch punching in it. So something's happening, whether or not it'll translate into lbs at some point is anyone's guess :)

That's the good thing about Xmas coming up - shopping vouchers!

Mind you, I have a whole box-full of size 10 skirts that I can't quite squeeze into yet. When they start fitting again, I'll be happy!

handbagsandshoes · 08/11/2011 23:19

New Notches in belts sounds promising!

I'm suffering pms week ATM. Not sure how it will pan out on the scales. I'm trying not to cave in to my desires. Wink

OP posts:
BrummieSeagull · 12/11/2011 09:47

Grr, argh, etc. 2lbs back on. Been quite good with the gym this week, too.

Right rolls sleeves up - time to whack those calories down again.

I should've known yesterday - had half a cheese and tomato baguette for lunch, was still peckish so went ahead and made the other half.

How's your week been?

BrummieSeagull · 12/11/2011 09:49

Forgot that the asterisks make things bold - now it just looks silly...

handbagsandshoes · 14/11/2011 22:11

Hi! Nice to see you! I know what you mean about rolling your sleeves up (not the silly part,I felt your determination!) I have been trying to do the same. I think it is working (slowly) because this morning I had 3 1/2 pounds to go!!! (Monday WI seems to work better for me for some reason) anyhow, so close and then had the most greasy and stodgy dinner of sausages, bubble and squeak and kale. Then fruit salad and cream. Bums. Another day tomorrow. I just want do it now and then see how it feels! Been creeping down slowlyi've gotten used to the new me and that super thrill is fading. Time for new clothes? Actually, a haircut might help.
