Who wants to start feeling better with me?

SwimLittleFish · 01/10/2011 17:03

Junk food and over eating makes me feel crap and lethargic.

I'm going to be eating healthier.

I'm going for 5/6 good portions of fruit and veg a day.
Three healthy square meals a day.
A small treat every day.
Exercising three times a week.

How soon before I start seeing and feeling improvements?

swim If you look at the Paul mckenna way of eating (it's not a diet) you ONLY eat when you're hungry and stop when (after eating slowly and enjoying the food) you're full. There's not much more to it than that.

I've lost the 2 stone that crept up on me over the years on it and am maintaining; with no calorie counting and although he says eat what you want that's the one rule i don't follow (I don't think it takes into account the addictiveness of junk food) I, like you, eat healthily anyway and it works well for me. That's true about slim not always meaning healthy ppeat .

My best friend's sister is very very slim but a total couch potato. I weigh a lot more than she does, yet she is shocked by how long I can hike, etc. She eats all crap, just in very little amounts. She's very slim but not healthy.

I think one of the main things I need to do is get more sleep. I overeat so much more when I'm tired, which is mainly all the time these days!

Oh, can I join too please?

I've just gone back to work part time after a year off on maternity leave. I'm working from home and seem to be constantly nibbling on food... it relieves the boredom of sitting at home on my own!

I have 2 stone of baby (plus the I can't be arsed to exercise) weight to lose. I keep meaning to start my diet tomorrow... maybe I just make it today and go for it. Well, the diet will have to start tomorrow really because I've already eaten 2 packets of crisps and a strawberry trifle as snacks today Blush.

cheerful Are you woken up by LOs ? If not I reccommend taking a kelp supplement and starflower or evening primrose oil capsules, my sleep is so much better since taking those. Chamomile is also helpful for everyone to get a relaxing sleep.

Oh, I sleep just fine...it's the making myself go to bed that's the problem! :)

I know I overeat if I'm tired too.
How are you all getting on. I've had a bit of a cold so I'm not feeling too great and have eaten a bit of comfort food but I've still stuck to my meal times.

I'm a bit better now so am off to go shopping for lots of healthy food. Well actually lots of regular food but no junk.

Because I've not been well I've not exercised so far but I'm hoping to start again tomorrow.

swim an important idea for feeling better (esp. yr digestion) is to eat fruit when you're hungry and leave about 10 mins between it and yr meal. With starchy fruit like bananas it's not important. DH does this and has no more stomach pains (he's mainly sceptical of my ideas but his health is bad and mine is good so there must be something in them Grin

I don't get any colds unless I eat dairy (i don't usually so i know when i have) It's so weird; I get all the symptoms of hay fever and as soon as i stop all the symptoms disappear in 2 days despite it being 'hay fever season'!.

I'm blood type A and they can only eat a little dairy (goats or sheeps cheese and yogurt) whereas type B and AB are better with it .

I should research the blood type diet...but I don't know what mine is actually!

cheerful You can sometimes tell from which foods you crave or hate e.g. O' types NEED to eat meat so veggie ones often crave steak! I've hated red meat for years and bananas repeat on me. Its weird 'cos when i tested for my blood type (you can buy simple little tests from big chemists) and found I'm an A type 2 of the foods i should avoid are steak and bananas!

The books or apps give you lists of which foods, supplements and exercises are Beneficial, Neutral or to Avoid for each blood type; Name of author Peter D'Adamo.

So strange ppeatfruit, I am blood type O positive and am not really a meat lover, am trying to lose weight and introduce more meat (for protein) into my diet, will that help me not only lose weight but feel better in myself?

Report
ppeatfruit · 06/10/2011 12:08

Yes obrigada but careful about the carbs you eat with it (for digestion and weight loss it's best to eat carbs at other meals without protein) e.g. organic lamb chops and tomatoes and green beans or whatever are lovely for you but beware, 'normal' steak and chips!!

if you really can't face meat then it's important to take B12 as a supplement for O' types

Hello, can I join in? This plan in the OP sounds exactly what I have been doing for the last 4 months or so. I started on 23rd May, weighing in at 14 stones 11pounds. I am now 12 stones 5 pounds [loss of 34 pounds] and am aiming for 9 stones 9llbs, which will give me a BMI of 24.
I say that is my goal weight, I am going to carry on eating this way indefinitely so who knows what weight I will end up at?. In any case, I believe this is the best way of losing weight and becoming healthier.
For exercise I am doing wi fit, lots of walking and swimming. I might even feel brave enough to join the gym one day.
Anyway good luck everyone, it really is worth it. I already feel much healthier and more energetic, I can't wait to lose more weight and be back at a normal healthy weight and size again.

Hello, can I also join, have tried SW on and off but with little success as I think in reality I can't be told I can have unlimited amounts of something or else I will just overdo it, for last couple of days I have been trying to limit my carb intake and would like to do it with your support. (I have also been looking into the Blood type diet which basically supports low carb as well).

Apologies, meant to post above in thread for low carb dieting Blush

yes obrigada the blood type is what we should all be doing to be healthy. I often think the reason why it's so unknown is that it would put most of the medics and huge drug companies out of business if everyone took it on board!!. I've read some really bizarre criticisms of it , it just makes so much sense doesn't it?

fatlazymummy · 08/10/2011 08:20

ppeatfruit I'm healthy but eating pretty much the opposite to what the blood diet says I should be. How does that work then?

Report
ppeatfruit · 08/10/2011 08:41

It could be that you are young and yr body doesn't get affected yet by the 'wrong' foods or (I don't know how much you've looked at the blood type) you could be a non secretor of yr blood type. Also maybe you're not 'tuned' in to yr body yet. E.g. DH is a grumpy old git when he's eaten wheat and doesn't seem aware of it!! I notice!!!

DD1 is a non secretor A type and can eat quite a few of the foods I get bad effects from.

I don't keep strictly to it e.g. It says A types are good with coffee but when I stopped my 1 a day fresh ground coffee habit i lost weight really fast! Although oddly i have still have one sometimes and find it speeds up my metabolism then.

fatlazymummy · 08/10/2011 09:01

I'm 51 and perfectly tuned into my body.
I looked at the list of foods I'm supposed to eat and realised that I would have to stop being a vegetarian, and then restrict the types of vegetables I do eat. And eat a lot of other things that I don't like. I think I will just carry on eating the way that I am, exercising and losing weight at a nice steady weight.

fatlazymummy · 08/10/2011 09:06

sorry, should have said 'losing weight at a nice steady rate'. [why can't we edit our posts on this forum?]

I think only if you're an O type, poss. a B and AB as well, is it a good idea to eat some organic meat and you can always take a B12 supplement as I said to Obrigada if you don't like the idea of it. Although A types CAN eat a little chicken and turkey i don't have much at all but i do have some fish.

i used to have quite a bit of eczema and some arthritis, which went away entirely when i stopped eating the 'deadly nightshade family' of vegetables and oranges. You're lucky if you have no health issues at all.

I don't follow my blood type religiously, i don't eat okra and white bread gives me const although they're meant to be okay for me there are other things to do for health which are also important IMO

My blood group is O . That doesn't mean I should eat meat or fish, or shouldn't eat lentils, or eat walnuts instead of brazil nuts. Wheat has no bad effects on me at all. My only health problem was that I was getting a lot of heartburn [probably caused by gallstones], nothing whatsoever to do with being blood type O. It was solved by reducing my fat intake and giving up alcohol. Just common sense and a tiny bit of medical knowledge.
By all means give up certain foods if you notice that they don't agree with you but following this list is unneccesary.

Report
ppeatfruit · 09/10/2011 09:41

Dr Peter D'Adamo is the author of the blood type and the encyclopedia gives a hell of a lot more scientific information about the hows and whys of it.

DH has BAD effects from wheat; it exhausts him, and when he stops eating it he looses weight fast. He can eat rye and kamut bread though it blows him up if he combines it with protein.

so does sleeping well help with weight loss then? I struggle to drag myself to bed in th evening.... I guess if i was less tired in the morning, I would have a better day, be more on top of life and eat less crap.... is that the theory or is it more than that?
