Well, I texted him to say that this week was going to be difficult due to the kids back at school etc, so he said something about needing to make time etc...and that he'd got his youngest this weekend. Then he said something about did I feel any chemistry to which I gave a considered answer about me not neccesarily feeling a lustful rush etc...so in the end, I just said perhaps we should just leave it, good luck, it was lovely to meet him and I hoped he found what he was looking for; all in all, a really nice message and not a blooming word/kiss my arse in return. So sod him. His loss!

Think I'll just stay single.

Oh Solo he is clearly a pillock. And possibly up his own arse a tad with the 'needing to make time' comment. Hmm

Solo · 04/09/2011 23:32

I know! obviously he has no real concept of lone parenting and the logistics that arranging an evening out need.

Oh Solo, Hope you are feeling ok today. Clearly his loss. Sad

GiganticusBottomus · 05/09/2011 10:39

Gaaaaaah, I have eaten 5 biscuits (very tired and DS still being sick - since 4am poor thing). Dagnam emotional eating. Help me get a grip!!!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 05/09/2011 12:59

Giganticus - get a grip Grin Can you make yourself a nice coffee or something? I find that often does the job of providing some kind of 'fix' when I'm in that tired, desperate for biscuits state.

I am doing well today. Took DS1 to his music group, and then I braved town and a start-of-term haircut - where we had to wait for nearly 40 minutes!! Between the fact that DS1 is a bit hit and miss with telling me when he needs a wee, and the fact that he hates getting his hair cut, it was a stressful morning. Fortunately DS2 was good as gold and didn't make so much as a squeak for the whole 2 hours we were out! It was still quite stressful though, but I managed to avoid buying any random food and stuffing it.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 05/09/2011 14:51

Hot chocolate is also fab when you feel the need for soem chocolatey goodness! and I dont mean those horrid skinny cow/options. I mean proper galaxy with a squirt of cream on top! Grin guess what has been helping me through this cold ha ha!

Niecie · 05/09/2011 16:51

Ah Solo - he wasn't the man for you. He likes plump women and you aren't and are on your way to being a skinny minny so he'd only have complained. Grin

Alibaba - Glad we didn't leave the DSs haircuts today if it is still bad in town. They had a bit of a wait with DH on Saturday but we went in late and it wasn't too bad. DS1 used to hate having his haircut (still not keen actually - even DH felt obliged to give the barber a tip because DS kept fidgeting on Saturday - glad I wasn't there! Wink). A lolly worked with him. I used to go and get one before the hair cut and plug it in his gob to stop the whinging. Worked quite well!! Smile

Giganticus - Poor DS - horrid bug. Sad How old is he? He isn't missing the start of term is he? 5 biscuits won't do any harm unless you have been eating loads of everything else. Even then, one day won't make a difference in the long run. Emotional eating is not good but you recognised what was going on which is half the battle.Smile

HowtoLookGood - Hot choc is great for making sure you don't feel deprived isn't it?. I don't drink much tea and when I do I find I have to eat something with it. If I want to avoid that I have a hot choc which might be worse for you than a cup of tea but definitely better than a cup of tea and a muffin!!Smile

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 16:59

HMMPH Solo. What a jerk. His loss for sure.

This morning I went through all of the usual breakfast foods before deciding that what I really wanted was the leftover shrimp-veggie rice from yesterday. So that is what I had. :)

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 17:01

I also made myself coffee with caramel and chocolate syrup. Deeeelish.

Solo · 05/09/2011 17:25

Hi all! Yes, I'm fiiine! Grin really :)
Totally his loss. Yes a jerk is a great description of him! ha!

Have eaten more comfort food just now. Have much to do having left the Dc's at Mum's for a few hours...been going through Mum's paperwork as she hasn't got a clue and seems to have let her appliance insurance lapse on at least her dishwasher. I love her dearly, but she does nothing to help herself since Dad went. She always moaned about his note writing on the backs of envelopes and his pile of notes balancing on his chair arm etc, but he never missed a trick! knew where everything was and had everything paid on time...I think she now misses those notes :( I miss my Dad.

GiganticusBottomus · 05/09/2011 17:28

I have been a complete nightmare Angry Paul? Who's Paul?
DS is holding down water now and is trying some bread at the mo so better on that front - he's six so yes he missed the first day at school. In between sickness this morning he was saying 'I think I won't be sick tonight so then I can go to school in the morning'.
Have another stressful situation going on but can't say as I will out myself. Emotional eating is going to be my bete noir in this whole process I can see. Right, there is absolutely no way this is happening tomorrow, I'll just write off today, listen to the cd tonight. Onwards and upwards.

CheerfulYank · 05/09/2011 17:31

I'm sorry Solo. I adore my Dad. I keep trying to get him to quit smoking...he's only 51, he should be around for a LONG time yet but I worry so much. He's a chimney!

Poor DS Giganticus !

Solo · 05/09/2011 17:40

Cheerful my Dad smoked for 60 years. He gave up when he was dx's with emphysema (he smoked a pipe for the last 30 years), but then got lung cancer...Apparently, all the time you are smoking, you have a certain amount of resistance to cancer due to nicotine, so when you stop, cancer can start developing. My Dd's Grandma (other side) gave up smoking when she got throat cancer and she'd previously had breast cancer. Lung cancer got her though and she died 3 months before my Dad :(

OP posts:
Solo · 05/09/2011 17:43

Oh yes, and my Mum's Dad stopped smoking (100 a day!!!) and got lung cancer, had it removed and then the second one collapsed and he died. He was 60 years and 1 week old.

Sometimes (and don't get me wrong, I'm totally anti smoking), it might be better to continue smoking if you've done it for a long time.

Luckily, my Mum gave up her habit when I was about 8, so almost 40 years ago. Hopefully, she'll be in reasonable health until she is 100. She's 70 now.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 05/09/2011 17:59

Solo your mum sounds like my dad's mum, she is totally clueless with bills and the like because grandpa used to do it all.

I have been really, really good today. And now I am starving for my dinner Grin

Solo · 05/09/2011 18:23

Good on ya Ali :)

TheOriginalFAB · 05/09/2011 19:19

Smoking has killed all 4 of my grandparents and only 1 of them didn't smoke themselves. I really wish cigarettes had never been invented.

I have been listening to the PM CD every night and today I feel that food is no longer the enemy. I am not doing the chew 20 times, nor always able to just eat and not do anything else, but I am eating when I want and thinking about it. I also walked part the way to school and back and will walk the whole way tomorrow. I am sticking to the no weighing for 2 weeks and wonder how much I can hope to lose??

GiganticusBottomus · 05/09/2011 19:40

Evening all. Just thought you might be interested, there's a three part series starting on Wednesday on Sky Living called, 'Clare Richards: slave to food' - it's a year in the life of Clare Richards (obviously!) she's the pretty one from steps who put on a lot of weight after she left. It's all about her battle with food. Thought it might be of interest. I've put it on to record.

TheOriginalFAB · 05/09/2011 20:06

I feel sorry for her and feel she has been really brave talking about this in public. She has lost weight before and I think, had a baby. She seems to be the first celeb to actually say about the emotional attachment to food.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 05/09/2011 20:23

Thanks Gig, I had forgot that it was coming on, ad I wanted to watch it!

GiganticusBottomus · 05/09/2011 20:34

As a yoyo dieter myself I think it will be interesting to see it as an outsider looking in. I do like her, she is very upfront about her struggle with food and I think women appreciate that she was once one of those identikit tiny pop stars and yet she struggles like us 'ordinary' bods.

Niecie · 05/09/2011 20:51

Good news FAB! I quite like the anticipation of wondering whether I have lost that you get in between weigh-ins but that presupposes that I have been doing what I should have been doing of course!

My father also smokes and it seems highly likely that his Alzheimer's is due to smoking at least in part. As with so many things smoking is a risk factor for it - not surprising that if smoking can cause plaque build ups in arteries it can cause it in your brain too. His macular degeneration is definitely caused by smoking and the eye specialist told him to stop. Fool that he is, the doctors don't know what they are talking and smoking doesn't cause any damage at all. All old people have what he has apparently. Hmm

Anyway, I have had a decent day. No snacking. I have had breakfast and lunch and then a smallish tea. I had a piece of fish and some salad and then a yummy Be Good To Yourself cherry crumble. I should add I don't buy them because they are meant to be low fat but because they are very very scrummy - 75% fruit and 25% crumble topping. My kind of crumble - I hate them when they are all stodge and no juicy bits!
