Whilst shopping with my super slim friend over the weekend I realised just how fat I feel - and getting on the scales provided proof. I've put on 2 stone - 1 stone of which has come on very recently ( think a month or two?!).
Other than looking lumpy and increasingly featureless, my legs are achy and I don't feel like I've woken up properly ever.
So, I'm going to start on the diet today. The plan is to eat lots of veg and fruits, lean meats, and limited carbs. I'm going to have 3 decent sized meals a day, and not snack unless I'm truely hungry.

I'm going to weigh myself and post on here every Tuesday. Anyone who wants to join in please do!

Starting weight; 11st 13.
(Target weight 10st so 1st 13lbs to lose)

Moose sounds like your doing excellent! Good food and lots of exercise Smile

Hold out for your weekly weigh in and it'll be worth it :)

I had googled cliptram and it's a common side effect unfortunitly.

Just wondered if it also slows weight loss or of I'm just a piggy eating too many treats and carbs Grin

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 20:11

Moose have you heard of the c25k programme?

Aims to get non runners to running 5k in 9ish weeks.

I am loosely following and that's how ive lost weight.

moosemama · 27/06/2011 20:45

The running sounds good Love2, but I can't do anything that energetic unfortunately due to my health. I am getting stronger everyday though - so you never know - one day maybe. Smile

Lambskin · 28/06/2011 08:04

moose I know exactly where you're coming from with regard to feeling restricted. My dh has been given a promotion which is fantastic but until they find a replacement for his job he's doing 2 for the price of 1 and we are really struggling financially - he's been on a promise for years, just enough to keep him there and working hard for bugger all money. So he's there looking at the shopping list going 'do you really need fennel?' and I'm thinking 'no I really need a takeaway and a bottle of wine but you may find the fennel cheaper in the long run' Grin

Try not to think about the weight loss too much, see if you can get into a day by day mindset whereby you lose weight while living your life rather than losing weight becoming your life. It will happen, and December isn't that far away if you take it in chunks (hasn't anybody else started their Xmas shopping yet? Wink), and what are a few months when you're going to be slim and healthy from then on for the rest of your life? Smile

moosemama · 28/06/2011 09:57

Thanks Lambskin. I know you're right. Am feeling more positive today, but scuppered again by a poorly ds1 - so no walking, but I will do the Leslie Sansome vid again and put some music on to dance around with dd.

He's desperate to get back into school for Friday, as they have a special day to do with their latest study project, no way he'll be in tomorrow and teachers' strike on Thursday. Might have to ask Mum to come and babysit so I can get out an walk.

Dh is in a similar position to yours by the sound of it, stuck where he is with a carrot dangling permanently just out of reach. He did get a promotion as of April this year, which has come with a better package, but actually means we are worse off due to tax credits etc. Hmm He did start looking elsewhere, but there's so little out there in his sector at the moment and he's really restricted on his commute, as with my health problems I often need him to help out in the mornings.

As for the budget. I can't get out the house to do a small local shop now, so am going to have to do a small Tesco order. Dh won't be impressed, as I did what was supposed to be a two week shop last Tuesday, but with being mainly fresh stuff the fridge/cupboards are pretty bare now.

Thinking about it, it would be lovely to shop for a nice 'slim' outfit for Christmas Day. I haven't bothered getting dressed up the last few years, but I think if when I lose the weight I will go shopping for something special. Perhaps that should be my target, rather than a strict idea of precise weight loss?

RandomSloth · 28/06/2011 12:53

Can I join in? I think logging what I'm eating each day (overeating is definitely my problem) might guilt me into getting it right for once.

I go back to work in a month and want to lose a stone for then - 5 ft 7 and 12 st 1 as at a few minutes ago. Weight also not carried well, could do with losing more but not sure it's realistic :(

Plan: eat less and exercise more!

moosemama · 28/06/2011 13:23

Hello RandomSloth, I'm on the same plan! Basically be more active, do more exercise and eat less and more healthily.

I still have a lot more to lose than you do though - I'm also 5' 7" but weighed in at 13.8 last Friday. Blush

kkey21 · 28/06/2011 16:17

I have got back on track after my indian saturday night! I would love to loose minimum of 1lb per week from now as i am so sick of the scales going up/down/up/down/up!

I am drinking green tea by the gallon and sticking with my minimum of 3 x exercise per week. Read alot about c25k, quite fancy it. x

Lovemy2babies · 28/06/2011 16:33

Had a bad day today with kids and me being sleep deprived.

Have eaten a packet of crisps and a bag of choc maltesers! Blush

But ate healthy at breakfast and lunch!

I too am 5'7, weigh 10 stone

moosemama · 28/06/2011 16:58

Am very Envy of your 10 stone lovemy, but then you deserve to be 10 stone and I deserve my spare tyre, which is mostly made up of galaxy cookie crumble and cooperative dark choc caramels. Blush

I know its off topic, but I'm very worried about my ds1 today, he is so pale and weak. He's always been a skinny little thing, but now he's literally all bones. I weighed him this morning and he's lost 3lbs since September 2010, when he should've gained 8 bs to stay on his centile - he's only on the 9th normally and now he's dropped to the 4th. He eats like a horse as well and doesn't do a huge amount of exercise, choosing to chat and bug hunt at playtimes rather than charge around. Sad Think I will have to get him to the docs and see what they think. Frustratingly, we had to cancel his paed appointment in May and they've rescheduled it for - October! Shock

LollipopViolet · 28/06/2011 17:20

Well, all going well here, although had a blip today when my grandparents came home from taking the dog to the vets, saying "we thought we'd get some donner meat and chips for lunch". So I indulged. But other than that, all going well healthy eating wise. It seems I may have lost 2 kilos already :)

Oh, and if any of you have experience of jobseekers allowance, could you pop over to employment issues? I've started a thread and need some help!

Lambskin · 28/06/2011 17:31

Aw moose Sad poor little thing. Yes, I'd take him to GP just to reassure yourself. How old is he? Could it be a growth spurt (if that doesn't sound too daft?)

Greetings RandomSloth I was 12 stone at the outset but at 5' 5'' I can assure you I carried it worse than you. I've lost almost a stone (11st 1 now) since the beginning of May but that is with very 'sociable' weekends Grin

Had a bad day too lovemy2babies I was running late and hadn't had lunch, but had just bought a box of fruit and nut muesli which I hadn't had for ages. Had it with about a pint of sweetened soya milk. It was lush. I know it doesn't sound too bad but I could have had a bottle of wine for the calories! Shock

moosemama · 28/06/2011 18:06

Thanks lambskin, he's 9 but tiny for his age - still in age 7-8 clothes and can occasionally wear his brother's age 6 stuff without it looking odd.

It seems a bit too extreme for a growth spurt, plus he really doesn't look right, his face is a really odd colour and is very weak and lethargic. I think its likely to be some sort of malabsorption thing. He tested negative for coeliacs, but had a definitive correlation between his food diary and symptoms so the paed, gp and dietician told us to remove gluten anyway. The thing is, gluten intolerance often goes hand in hand with dairy intolerance and he seems to have been craving dairy recently, which could be a warning sign. Both my sisters are dairy intolerant - although both developed it in adulthood, but its in the family, iyswim. I don't know what I'd do if he had to go dairy free. He's a militant vegetarian and having ASD, there's no way we'd be able to change his mind on that and there really are no decent cheese alternatives.

Shock at the muesli being as many calories as a bottle of wine!

Lambskin · 28/06/2011 18:26

To be fair it was a large bowl before anyone panics and I get sued

It does sound like a food intolerance. I don't have wheat or dairy, I crave both but they make me feel awful and look like I've been on a drinking binge, I bloat and swell, feel sick, funny tummy - itchy for wheat, don't ask for dairy - and my skin is dreadful too. This only came on about 3/4 years ago and was traumatic for me, must be so much worse for a little one of 9 especially with ASD.

It's funny that food intolerance quite often goes hand in hand with ASD. We tried ds2 on a dairy free diet last year and his behaviour did improve, but I'm not sure whether it was that or the fact that it was the school holidays. Was very hard to keep to as he is such a faddy eater but may try again out of sheer desperation!

Lovemy2babies · 28/06/2011 18:49

Moosema you are way to hard on yourself, you come across as such a lovely lady with do much love in your heart, don't get down.

And remember you are doing Somthing about it Smile

Sorry to hear your lad is not to well.

I agree with Lambskin about dairy and wheat, a few years ago I detoxed myself with no dairy, no wheat, no potatoes, no tea, no fizzy drinks and no red meat.
I lost weight and felt great. And if I ever did have any of those things I felt awful! Headaches, heavy and lethargic.

Lovemy2babies · 28/06/2011 18:53

Kkey21 - c25k is great.
If your a beginner than it's perfect it builds your stamina and strength.

I am defenitly fitter and have more energy from it!

There is a sports and exercise section under fun and games and they talk loaadds about it there Smile.

moosemama · 28/06/2011 19:32

Thanks for the support folks, I really appreciate it, especially as its way off topic.

On a lighter note, I had an Autumn and Winter clothes catalogue delivered today. Ridiculously early of course, but it has motivated me. Been flicking through and telling myself I will actually be able to buy the things I like to wear this winter. Think I'll bookmark some pages, then if my willpower starts to waiver I can always look back at the pictures to remind myself why I'm doing it.

LollipopViolet · 28/06/2011 19:35

Just had homemade chili for dinner, and there's some left for my lunch tomorrow too - yum!

Sadly, a very good friend of mine has just found out he's been made redundant :(

Lovemy2babies · 28/06/2011 19:46

Your dinner sounds yum lollipop, whats the recipe?

LollipopViolet · 28/06/2011 19:57

Lovemy, I still live at home, and my mum made it to her recipe, which she doesn't share! I've asked her, and she always says "a bit of this and a bit of that". Sorry, that's no help I know!

I'm still on the job hunt, it's awful as it's all telesales, which I've done before and put it this way, it was not good for my mental health. I'd be crying at some point most weeks. I'm tempted to offer my services as a production stills photographer at my old uni, but don't know how I'd go about charging/setting up a business doing that/what I'd charge if anything to students...

moosemama · 28/06/2011 20:26

Dinner sounds nice Lollipop. Sorry to hear about your friend, there seems to be a lot of it about at the moment. Sad

Have you looked online to see if there are any forums for the sort of work you'd be doing at the uni. I know when dh set up as a web designer years ago he got lots of advice about what to charge etc online. You could also try your local chamber of commerce - ours have advisors for people who are hoping to set up their own business and dh's advisor had some really good contacts for him.

LollipopViolet · 28/06/2011 21:15

I've not really thought about it much tbh.

I'm at that point where, after my final deadline, I'll do ANYTHING if it means I'm earning. Well, within reasons, call centre work had a horrible effect on my mental health - I was seriously unhappy, and visual impairment + waitressing/bar work = accident waiting to happen, so I have to be careful.

I think I'm going to do a mass CV send out to production companies in Manchester and Birmingham, and see what comes of it. I'm on the books of one company as a freelancer but I've only had one job with them so far so might not be a frequent thing.

RandomSloth · 29/06/2011 13:49

Thanks for the welcome guys, it's nice to talk to people in the same boat.

Yesterday was a good day, but in my experience the first few days always are! How often do you all weigh yourselves? I find it hard to wait a whole week...

Lollipop & Moose, sorry to hear about the stuff you've got going on. As if it's not hard enough to shift the weigh already - it's the stressful days at work that are a killer for me as I tell myself that I deserve a treat, and before I know it I've stopped dieting and haven't even noticed

LollipopViolet · 29/06/2011 14:04

Hi Random :) Another bad day, just been turned down for my DREAM JOB! Photographer on cruise ships. It was a junior position, so don't think I'm under qualified. Just had to abandon one application because 2 of the questions were "do you have a driving licence" and "do you have daily access to a vehicle"

That'd be a no and no, due to sight problems.

Still, I've done well, had the rest of last night's chili for lunch and haven't resorted to eating a tub of cookie dough ice cream with the disappointment. We've not got any anyway so even if I wanted to, I couldn't! :(

Seriously, if life has some grand plan for me, I want in on it! This being unemployed thing is irritating as hell! Can't work til August anyway due to having uni work to re-submit but grrrrr! :(

erebus · 29/06/2011 14:11

I do a Friday weigh in (several people on here seem to)- the obvious advantage being that you're more likely to fall off the wagon on a weekend and don't need the evidence staring back at you of a Monday morning!

I have just over a stone to go to my target but my motivation is wavering a bit at the moment! But this week, at least from Monday, I have attempted to stay on the straight and narrow as I feel I really need to see a weight loss this Friday (I'm losing a pound a week so it's fine-tuned stuff!)- even stasis would be acceptable- as since last Friday's I haven't been very disciplined and had a heavy period!
