Whilst shopping with my super slim friend over the weekend I realised just how fat I feel - and getting on the scales provided proof. I've put on 2 stone - 1 stone of which has come on very recently ( think a month or two?!).
Other than looking lumpy and increasingly featureless, my legs are achy and I don't feel like I've woken up properly ever.
So, I'm going to start on the diet today. The plan is to eat lots of veg and fruits, lean meats, and limited carbs. I'm going to have 3 decent sized meals a day, and not snack unless I'm truely hungry.

I'm going to weigh myself and post on here every Tuesday. Anyone who wants to join in please do!

Starting weight; 11st 13.
(Target weight 10st so 1st 13lbs to lose)

Today is another day Smile. I think im giving up exersies running and the shred becausei have had some niggles so really cant see how i will lose any weight now lol though will get on my bike still and try and walk more.

LollipopViolet · 26/06/2011 12:33

Hello everyone!

Well, I'm unable to go out for the next 7 weeks or so due to having a uni referral deadline :( stupid chicken pox made me fail a module and I need to stay at home and work so no swimming :(

I need a new form of exercise to compensate. I'll weigh in next week, am on at the moment so will be a false reading :)

moosemama · 26/06/2011 13:19

Hi all

Still plodding away here. Managed a good long dog walk yesterday morning and have done a half hour Leslie Sansome 2 mile walking exercise vid with the dcs this morning. Little quitters gave up half way through! Grin Mind you, they're all proper skinny minnies and ds1 and ds2 have hypermobile joints and hypotonia so its not exactly there fault they have no stamina.

I'm glad I started with that one rather than buying one I can't do and feeling a failure. It might be a breeze compared to some of the exercise dvds others are doing, but its plenty for me to start building my fitness back up.

I've been looking into buying a rowing machine this weekend. Going to try my Mum's a few times this week and see how I get on. Its supposed to be a really good cardio and all over body workout if you do it properly.

Just had a lovely salad for lunch. Nothing special, just lettuce, cucumber, celery, cherry tomatoes, spring onion and avocado, but I added lemon juice, black pepper and a tiny smidge of low salt and it was yum. Followed it up with a bowl of natural, fat-free bio-yoghurt with strawberries and blueberries and feel nicely full and very virtuous.

I struggled a bit yesterday, couldn't decide what I wanted to eat and in all honesty, didn't actually want any of the healthy options I had to choose from. Managed to stick with it though, despite going to my great-nephew's birthday party which didn't have even one healthy thing on the menu. Took my own pukka tea with me and waited till I got home to eat.

Ironically, having made a good start at losing weight and rebuilding my fitness, I seem to be noticing more and more how fat and unfit I actually am and its making me Sad. Final goal seems a million miles away at the moment, but I'm determined to stick with it. I think I'll feel better when the exercise starts helping to improve my general tone and shape - just feel wobbly and flabby at the moment.

Target for this Friday's weigh in in 13st 6.

Right, off out for a walk in the countryside with the dcs and dogs now. Looks a tad hot out there, better pack some water bottles.

madwomanintheattic · 26/06/2011 15:56

oo, rowing machine, moose. i've always been tempted by the idea of something-or-other in the garage as a stand-by exercise, but never quite got round to it.
have to be very good today - girlie leaving party last night with lots of cocktails and there was no hope at all of being sensible. i even had two slices of pizza because they were there. hey ho. another six days until weigh-in. and today i'm taking down curtains
i know what you mean how noticing the wobbly and unfit thing can be helpful. i've been in denial for some time. Grin

was it you who said ds wouldn't cope with you getting your hair cut on the fri night thread btw? cos if it was you must have jinxed me Grin blooming dd2 cried for an hour before i went to the hairdresser, and for two hours afterwards. absolutely hysterical. when we got home dh was there and showed her all of the pics on the laptop from when i had really short hair last time (and obv with dd1 and ds1 when they were little), so by saturday morning she had calmed down and was a bit Blush about all the fuss - kept coming and giving me a cuddle. i honestly thought she'd be fine. she doesn't deal well with change at all, and is a bit tippy because of the move, but i honestly thought 'it's just hair, it's not going to affect her at all, so she'll be fine'. mmmm. not so much. Grin ah well.

right, curtains. and digging in the freezer to see if there's anything edible left.

moosemama · 26/06/2011 16:08

Boy its hot out there. Couldn't walk even a third of how far we usually would, the dogs were wilting. Did manage 3500 steps though, which brings todays distance total up to just under three miles. Am starving now though.

Ds1 was a total pita from before we went out until he got back and was allowed his nintendo time though - he's only 9, but lord, it was like we'd brought a fully fledged Kevin the Teenager along with us. Hmm

Forget about the party - onward and downwards I say! Wink

Yup, it was me that said ds1 couldn't cope with me having my hair cut - sorry to jinx you. Blush You have given me a great idea of getting all the photos out from when ds1 was little and I had really short hair though - great way to prepare him for it and I really do need to do something, this mane is way to hot in weather like this.

How does it look? Are you pleased with it now that dd's come to terms with the loss of your locks?

Lovemy2babies · 26/06/2011 17:31

Grrr had a rubbish week with weight loss.
O have exercised 3 days and ran 6 miles over the week and lost nothing Angry

However I did let myself slide 3 days this week with lots of carbs: pizza, chips and burgers

Arhhhh sounds so much worse when I write it down no wonder I lost nothing!

New week new start!

moosemama · 26/06/2011 18:27

I have just read some of the sticky threads on MFP about why you should eat your exercise earned calories and how the metabolism actually works. Really interesting stuff and helps explain why some of the stuff we need to do feels counterproductive for weightloss.

Lovemy2babies, at least you haven't gained, so all that exercise has paid off. I know it won't feel like it though.

Right, am off to try and make up some of my exercise calories with a huge garlic and ginger stir fry.

kkey21 · 26/06/2011 19:24

I can safely say I buggered up last night after going out for an indian! So tidY I have been back on track and sensible ready for Friday! X

tinker316 · 27/06/2011 00:16

Managed 2 do 5k on the bike this evening Smile & walked 90mins earlier in this wonderful but sweltering weather!!
I have been good all wkend- so hopefully I will get some happier results in nxt wks weigh in!

madwomanintheattic · 27/06/2011 02:27

oo, garlic and ginger Envy my cupboards are empty - i had to make pasta bol out of leftover carrot soup instead of tomatoes Grin
but yes, i like it. it has caused a bit of a stir, but i've done it before, just no-one here has known me with short hair so they are all really stunned. it was definitely time for it all to go - the climate here isn't really great for long curls, so i've looked like a hallowe'en special effect for two years. Wink very freeing to get rid. and it takes me seconds to wash, as opposed to the lengthy conditioning and nonsense. and i can walk outside in the wind without having to tie it all up!

2babies - i think carbs are the answer y'know. i was always a bit sceptical before, but just cutting them down a bit seems to be making a difference...

i have a house full of smoke where i'm using the self-clean function on the cooker Blush it is gross.

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 07:39

Madwoman - your right it is carbs, I'm finding it hard to cut out altogether still enjoy pasta as a family dinner and burgers at weekend.

Moosema - thanks for thinking positive at least no gain!
I also read those threads on mfp after your post an very interesting to how our body metabolism works. Not sure if I understand completely but will re read again.

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 07:42

Could I ask what you lovely ladies do for breakfast?

I have porridge with semiskimed milk and find if I have anything less I feel awful weak and light headed.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

tinker316 · 27/06/2011 10:34

I always have a bowl of bran flakes 4 breakfast- but in the winter a nice bowl of warm porridge Smile

Lambskin · 27/06/2011 12:59

I'm having a break from Cardio at the moment, I hurt my feet leaping about barefoot so am now waiting for my (expensive) cross trainer trainers to arrive and just doing yoga etc. I know I was stupid in retrospect but I've always worked out barefoot and it only recently became a problem because I'm exercising everyday.

I am under on the calories though so everything is under control and I will not be panicking Grin

Breakfast for me is: mixed berries and green tea, take ds to school, workout, then boiled egg x2 and ryvitas x3 (dry). The two eggs for breakfast is very important for weight loss apparently.

moosemama · 27/06/2011 16:53

Afternoon all

Breakfast - I have porridge made with water and a tiny splodge of agave syrup, but my other favourite is 0% fat natural yoghurt with berries. If low carbing, boiled egg or a small omelette is good.

I have had sort of a bad day today, went out with my Mum and sister. Had had my usual porridge, then made sure I had a bowl of zero fat yoghurt with 50g strawberries and 25g blueberries so I wouldn't be tempted while we were out and took 10g of brazil nuts with me in case I started to flag. Unfortunately, neither mum or sister had had breakfast, so wanted to stop for lunch after an hour. Hmm Have been coming in consistently under my calories, so decided I could safely chose vegetable quiche and salad - but have been regretting the quiche ever since, thinking about all the sat fat and calories that must have been in it. It wasn't that big a slice and I left the french bread and butter that came with it, but all the same, am not happy with myself.

Am hating this airless, muggy, hot weather. How on earth are we supposed to exercise properly in this heat?

Madwoman - glad you like your hair, I am so tempted after reading your post. I dream of being a wash and go girl again, it used to be so easy - if I put my hair up when its wet now, its still wet 48 hours later! Shock I do think, in my case, I need to lose my double chin s before I go short again though. Blush

I am totally uninspired for dinner this evening and I have to start making it. Dcs ate far too much pasta last week and I have all but run out of mediterranean veg to make the sauce with anyway. I'd love to cook something we can all eat, but we are trying to ladle calories on to ds1 at the moment, as he has gone super skinny and isn't looking well, so between that and him being gluten free, our diets are far from compatible.

Suppose I better go and investigate the cupboards.

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 16:55

Your breakfasts sound yummy Smile

I'd love to have berrys for breakfast but find them very expensive.

I have just started using mfp again and thought I had been very good today but find I have gone over my calorie allowance by 200!
To be VERY good I'd need to not have any tea and not have had an ice-cream Sad

Hmmm I do want to lose weight but denying myself simple pleasures is unthinkable!

How do the rest of you do it?

itsnicetobenice · 27/06/2011 17:27

for breakfast ive been having krispies or a boiled egg with a slice of toast. No exersise its far to hot but it could be shedding me beef like in a sauna couldnt it? I too fancy a rowing machine one like they have at the gym with the fly wheel to cool me, thinking it would be good to keep in the garden so i can exersise alfresco been as though we have 0 room in the house.

itsnicetobenice · 27/06/2011 17:28

i also find it too hot to rave stodge.

Lambskin · 27/06/2011 17:32

Lovemy2babies I'm trying not to have any treat foods until I've lost a significant amount. I have wine and olives and stuff at the weekend if I've saved my exercise calories during the week and I'm looking forward to having a Chinese when I reach 10 st which is keeping me going longer term. I just know it's really not worth how I'll feel the next day.

I want to lose the weight more than I want to stuff my face (I think Grin)

Oh and I clean my teeth and put my pjs on, can't snack then!

Btw I know what you mean about berries being expensive but you can get 3 bags of frozen berries from Sainsbos for a fiver, and the price is offset by the vast amounts I'm saving by not drinking during the week (and I mean vast!).

Lambskin · 27/06/2011 17:34

I put a fan on to exercise, not too bad then.

moosemama · 27/06/2011 17:56

Same here. I don't allow myself treats at all during the first few weeks, as if I do, it kind of switches on the cravings, iyswim. Once I'm past that stage, I'll allow myself the occasional, small treat as long as its within my calorie target and not too unhealthy.

The only exception I've made was the sorbet. I had 100g after dinner one evening when I was really short of my calorie target Tesco had a deal on their sorbets last week, so I bought some in just in case sugar cravings got too much The boys and dh assure me that the lemon one is really really sour, but the blackcurrant and mango is lovely. 100g = 121 kcal, 29 carbs and 0 fat.

I got really fed up this morning when I worked out that if I lose 2lbs a week every week I won't hit target until December and I know I won't lose that much every week. It just seems so far away and that's without taking into account our holiday and various birthday parties etc, which may well throw me off plan if I'm not super disciplined. I don't know only 10 days in and already losing faith.

Managed to pull myself together and soldier on though.

Its not helping that dh has put us on a strict budget either - feels like my whole life is really restricted at the moment. Sad

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 19:03

Lambskin - thank you for the frozen berry tip! Had not thought about that before Smile

Moose - don't get down about target date when you realise that every month you have lost several pounds you'll feel great at your achievement!
X

Lovemy2babies · 27/06/2011 19:08

Also wanted to ask if anyone is on any medication that interferes with weight loss?

I'm on cliptram ad, and it's meant to make you put weight on so far I have not found it to put weight on but wonder if it's slowing my weight loss?

erebus · 27/06/2011 19:27

Touching base- not a fab weekend, really! Drank three glasses of vino one evening, achieved little exercise and have chipped a bone in my finger after squishing it between 2 pavers (my exercise routine seems to be the heavy DIY around here, like laying patios!), also coming to the end of a very heavy period (sorry if TMI!) which doesn't help but experience has taught me that I hate to exercise when I'm on so I'm better to wait til it's over....

Anyway, weigh in is Friday so a bit of time to redeem myself.

moosemama · 27/06/2011 20:02

Thanks lovemy2babies.

If I'm honest, I was down because I weighed myself this morning (should know better and only do it weekly) and I haven't lost so much as an ounce since last Friday. Really frustrating, as I have significantly increased my activity levels, done a work out video (albeit a very basic and gentle one compared to the ones you guys are doing) and walked miles every day except Saturday.

Still, it was a timely reminder not to weigh myself more than once a week. I am daft, because I knew this was going to happen. Its my normal pattern to lose a fairly big chunk in the first week then slow down to 2ish lbs a week and I know that's the healthiest way. I'm just not used to being this big and still have a stone to lose before I get back to my previous 'heaviest' weight, before even starting to approach my targets.

I should just be pleased that I am no longer in the obese category, but have moved into the overweight one - typical of me to be far too impatient.

Sorry, I don't know about the medication. I was on citalopram after I had ds2 and I did gain weight, but never thought it might be the medication - I assumed it was the comfort eating. Have you googled it?

Erebus - laying patios sounds like pretty heavy duty exercise to me - more than enough to offset a couple of glasses of wine. I think we all have to relax our plans a bit around that time of the month, so don't be hard on yourself - as you said its not weigh in until Friday, so plenty of time to even up the score.

Couldn't find anything in the cupboards that added up to a decent meal that we could/would all eat. Ended up with vegeburgers, steamed veg and oven chips for the dcs and dh Blush and a quorn peppered steak with steamed broccoli, carrots and peas for me.

I am now under my calorie target again though. I really need to be more organised, see it coming and eat more during the day - the last thing I need is to be eating at this time of night.
