Solo - Sorry to hear about your friend. It must have been a shock.Sad

I think we all would help if we could.

I was wondering if you could make any money by doing some craft? Have a Folksy shop or something? I don't think it costs to set it up. Not sure if it costs to list things. I suppose it only works if you have some stash already and don't have to fork out for materials but if you can make a few bits and bobs it might be something to supplement your income.

Doesn't really solve the problem of when you do go back to work and DD and her before and after school care. £16 does sound a bit steep. DS's school have just started doing a wrap around club and I think it is £3.75 in the morning (7.30am until school) and £8.50 for the 2.5hrs in the afternoon so about £18ish cheaper a week. It includes tea. I suppose your clubs might be longer. Anyway, I wonder too, if there are cheaper alternatives.

Niecie · 10/07/2011 11:00

Damn those product development people at Sainsburys.

Spoilt a good rant there. Blush

SoloAgainItSeems · 10/07/2011 11:08

Will try to repeat yesterdays lost post.

Yes, I am ill, but I've worked (mostly) throughout the last 12 years with the illness.
CM would cost much, much more even if I could find one for the hours I would need. I would need one from 05:45 (hence the reason for hoping Ds would get Dd up, ready and to a BC) hours and some nights, I wouldn't be picking up until 10:30/11pm which is just not doable or fair on the Dc's (and I don't even know if Ds would/could be child minded at age 13).

I do think that friends wouldn't do it either judging by the thread that's going on about that...also they'd have to register as a child minder and then the price would rise anyway. I don't think they'd be my friend for long with me knocking on their door at that early hour either.

I tried claiming DLA in 2004, but I was so ill at the time, that it took me 6 weeks to complete it and I was turned down anyway. Utterly soul destroying that was.

I have a mortgage, but I also have an extension with a leaking roof and an unrelated damp problem. The entire house needs rewiring as it's nearly 60 years old and dangerous. I have plumbing problems too.

I can craft Niecie, but I get a bit 'don't want to do it if I have to' and I'd definitely have to wouldn't I? I've also found that people don't want to pay for hand made/home made goods even though everything I make is entirely unique and if I may say so ~ beautiful. Folksy charge when you sell stuff I think Niecie...I know it's not a free thing anyway. I tried selling my baby blankets on ebay and they emailed me asking if I was a business!!! I said no and disappeared!

pp yes Dd is over the pox and yes, I'm up for a coffee next week :) can't do Weds or Thurs am though. Also, would be easier on the afternoons as Dd is not at nursery then, so easier to relax against the clock iyswim? Let me know!

SoloAgainItSeems · 10/07/2011 11:11

I would also be rostered to work alternate weekends and nights too although I could probably get rid of those.
Also, our shifts are different every week. There'd be no continuity for the children or a CM.

Niecie · 10/07/2011 11:55

I feel the same way about crafting Solo. Plus I go in fits and starts. I pick something up, do it to death for a couple of weeks and then don't touch it again for a few more weeks. Probably explains all the UFOs I have lying around.Blush

I know it doesn't cost to set up a Folksy shop, because I have done it in a moment of optimism but I haven't listed anything so after that I don't know about charges. FWIW I wouldn't sell handmade stuff on Ebay. As you say people aren't prepared to pay for it. They go there for a bargain (I know I do). I would say the atmosphere is different on Folksy as everything is handmade, or should be, and people go there expecting the pay the price. But if you can't make it pay then it isn't worth it obviously.

And yes the things you have made that I have seen are beautiful and you most certainly do deserve to get paid well for them. Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 12:45

Sorry to post and run without reading your posts but I am off to sleep. Just got back from OOH. I have shingles. Weighed myself 12 12. All going tits up at the moment. And that reminds me, due at breast clinic this week for an ultrasound and don't know if I can go now.

SoloAgainItSeems · 10/07/2011 13:03

Bloody hell! FAB :( anything else love? why can't things go well for you? really sorry to hear that things are crap for you too.

12st12lbs isn't the end of the world and things will get better (on all counts) so just be kind to yourself. Here, have a (((hug))) from me.x

Niecie, I'm the same. Go at it hammer and tongs and then nothing.
I think I did the same as you in as much as I opened a Folksy shop, but listed nothing...I think I listed nothing due to charges and if it wasn't Folksy, it was Etsy.
I actually thought that selling my blankets and bags for £25 a piece was quite reasonable tbh, but hey ho.

Niecie · 10/07/2011 13:45

Seems very reasonable to me to, Solo. You don't pay much less than that for one in Mothercare these days and that is without them being personal and handmade.

FAB Sad Shingles is nasty. Hope you get over it quickly and you have one less thing to deal with. Take care of yourself.

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 15:16

Is the shingles the reason why I want to sleep all the time?

PositiveAttitude · 10/07/2011 16:38

YES FAB, no wonder you have been feeling crap for a while!! Give yourself a rest, fully recover and you will bounce back. Feet up and a bit of pampering for a while is in order. and I will sneak you a ((hug)) too! Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 16:41

Thank you. I just feel so useless. I haven't got the energy for anything and dh is having to do it all.

Niecie · 10/07/2011 16:47

I reckon it could be. FAB although you sound stressed out and sad so that isn't going to make you full of beans and energy either. Depression is very energy sapping isn't it? Not to mention pain - you probably aren't sleeping properly if you are in pain as well.

How long do you think you have had shingles for? Do you have to stay out of circulation like chickenpox, so you don't pass the chickenpox virus on to other people? I hope they gave you some anti-virals. My mum had some when she had shingles and they are supposed to be useful in tackling the symptoms.

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 17:33

Dh said I have had it for more than a week but I thought it was an insect bite. I haven't been around anyone I know to be pregnant but have been around small children. crap.

ppeatfruit · 10/07/2011 17:37

Oh dear Fab.ShockAnother unmumsnetty hug for you.

Solo and anyone else who's in striking distance of the sarf how about Thurs afternoon in Redhill ?

MuffinsMummy · 10/07/2011 21:25

Hiya everybody!

FAB sorry to hear you have shingles I have heard that is supposed to be very painful! Hope you're feeling better soon!

solo have you been to CAB for advice about your situation? You might find them helpful. For what it's worth I earn £17,000 a year for working 24 hours a week and get £800 a month tax credits which includes help towards childcare for the youngest 2, I have 3 in total. Not including child support I take home about £2000 a month.

I have lost the 2lb odd I put on a week ago but still no AF Confused. My friend things I would have been due Thursday just gone (I'm rubbish at remembering really must write it down!) but that still makes me 3 days late! Could it be stress?

I haven't done too bad today eating wise but could still have been better. I took the DC to a regatta and had a hog roast bap with stuffing and apple sauce which I was hungry for but then had an ice cream! When we got home I had a salt and vinegar crisp sandwich Blush and nothing since as not hungry. I am going to try and do the 30 day shred DVD for a month, first time tonight, and I'm feeling very positive.

It helps that I went out clubbing on Thursday wearing a dress and every time I turned around there were men telling me how nice I looked Grin

will check in again tomorrow until then good night all :)

SoloAgainItSeems · 11/07/2011 02:09

Really?!!! Muffins that does surprise me! I didn't think I'd be entitled to anything at all if I was earning £15-£16k pa. I really should see the CAB, I just hate the idea as the local one is within a not particularly nice part of town, so you can imagine some of the people that go there!
How old are your Dc's MM?
Excellent news at being ogled admired btw! Wink

Pp I think Dd's school meeting is Thursday pm...I must check that though.

MuffinsMummy · 11/07/2011 05:08

solo DC are 10, 2 and 11 months. I have just got my award notice through for this year and it's pretty much the same as I was getting last year. I pay approx £320 a month for the younger DC to go to nursery 2 days a week. I get more now on my own than I did when with XH on the same household income, which I was not expecting at all! I think it's because as he didn't work I couldn't claim childcare but they had to be in nursery "just in case something came up" grrrrrr!

Can you phone CAB to get advice? I know they have a number but not sure if you can use that rather than go in. Where I live the office is in the city centre but it's a turn up and be seen when you can system so you can be there for hours!

I was dancing with a bloke in the navy on Thursday! He was huge! 6, 4" and hands like spades Grin

MuffinsMummy · 11/07/2011 05:13

solo just thought I should add my claim is based on a wage of £16,000 as it went up part way through last year and they always go on the lowest figure.

TheOriginalFAB · 11/07/2011 08:28

MM - it is itchy and painful and causes me real trouble getting up in the morning as it is like I have a ring around my abdomen that is stiff Sad.

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2011 09:39

The original have you tried to get some echinacea? The solgar is probably the best one it's SOOO good for your immune system and will help you a lot.
